making this collection, I think

I had to take a hard smack

listening to the judges,

because I wanted to shout.

I mean, Viktor, your evening

look on Erica, I loved the

juxtaposition of the hard and

the soft.

They didn't.

>> Kimberly, your

accessorization, for me, it was

that tough Brooklyn girl.

They hated it.

And, Joshua, your Grecian cat

suit, I mean, I thought it was

phenomenal.

"No!"

>> Yeah.

>> And, Anya, you were all over

the place, and that evening look

was not your best work.

And you know it.

>> Yes, I do.

>> So these next two days

are make-it-or-break-it time for

each of you, and I have to tell

you, any one of you could win

this.

It was beautiful from the front,

if I had, like, six months to

make it.

I'm very overwhelmed.

I have a few ideas of things

that I would like to do, but

is happening, because I wasn't

happy with my gown.

messy, so I'm taking it off,

starting fresh.

I want everything to look

perfect.

It's really the craziest

strategy I've ever used.

I basically bought

all-new fabric.

My intention is to make three

new looks altogether.

The bathing suit and a

cover-up and the gown because,

clearly, that was not a winner.

I saw about ten black-and-white

prints in one minute.

And I was like, "This has to be

a sign."

It's just now...How does it work

with that?

>> Anya's looks are definitely

changing.

Might or might not be good.

But we'll see.

>> I'm gonna do, like, a little

tank out of this.

I think what I'm gonna do,

actually, I'm gonna do two more

of these.

Because I can do these tanks in,

like, 45 minutes.

And these shorts, I'm doing it

out of green now.

I think it's gonna be really

hot.

And it's actually not going

well.

It's just kind of a disaster.

I know I have little trimmings

It was very clean, very simple.

This is the false fiber lash.

It almost looks like they have

fake lashes on.

runway.

This has an ease and a flow

about it.

You turn it to the front.

It looks like it's been hammered

and nailed.

>> I was gonna redo it in black,

but I didn't get the same

weight, so the volume is not

there.

>> So you're gonna make

revisions in the skirt?

>> Yes.

>> How are you going to be able

to not have it look like it's

all tortured and reworked?

>> Oh, I don't know.

>> Kimberly's booty skirt is not

my favorite.

The silhouette is nothing that I

necessarily would tend to make,

drape, sew, and/or even try to

sell.

>> I have to do a new top to go

with this.

>> What are you using?

>> I don't know, because it's--

>> I know. I know that scares

you--don't be scared.

experience.

And I'm very humbled by an

experience that has been very

confusing for me.

But it's okay.

And as much as I would prefer

not to be showing at such a big

event with such trepidation, I

really let go of that, that I

can move forward and continue to

grow.

"I'm saying my good-byes."

It sounded to me a little bit

like she's preparing herself.

>> 24 hours from now...

>> Yeah?

>> It's done.

>> Exactly.

>> So spice it up, and you're

doing that.

much I edited, just to clean it

I'm taking the route to take

two of my prints out.

It's more of the silhouette that

I'm looking at.

>> This is my gown.

I wanted to switch it from this

one.

>> I love the new black gown.

The only thing I would say

that I'm confused about is that

he's using this cheetah print,

and I just don't see where the

cheetah plays into this

beautiful print that he's made

himself.

>> All right.

What did you do with the Mood

opportunity?

>> What I found was this green

knit, which I've made into a

short now, which is replacing my

old short.

>> I think it looks really

peculiar.

Now that I'm seeing more of the

collection, there's a very

different vibe than what they

saw.

>> What's the vibe you have got?

>> Sophisticated woman who likes

something fresh and new and

still feels that she can go to

the four seasons for lunch.

>> Okay.

>> This isn't going to the Four

Seasons.

This is going downtown.

Think about it.

>> Okay, but...

It's like a linebacker

tackled me and and I'm like,

"Okay, where am I standing now?"

>> It's tough love.

>> No matter what happens, the

show must go on, and it's

happening tomorrow.

>> We're at Fashion Week!

It's anybody's game at this

point.

>> The critique with Tim has had

my mind spinning the past few

hours.

Once again, like, I'm confused

on the critique a little bit.

>> Yeah, I mean, 'cause, like,

this is what I have, you know.

>> Mm-hmm.

>> And this is how I had planned

to show it.

So, at this point, I think it's

more about trusting your gut and

going with it, because that will

make or break winning the

competition.

>> Are you panicking?

>> Am I panicking?

No, what's to panic about?

>> Really, right now, I have a

lot of a little bit to do.

I did a count--how many things

do you actually have that are

complete right now?

Said, one, two...

Two, one, two...

Two.

I may have to still do some

hems and put a waistband

and a zipper here and there.

But when you have to do that

across ten looks, it's a lot.

If it doesn't get done, I'll

try tomorrow.

>> Anya, is this one a new look?

Whew!

>> I have to.

I have probably more than ten

looks, but I don't have ten

looks that I want to show.

So at this point, I'm still

making new pieces.

>> Well, if this is good enough,

The judges have allowed me to

see that I am a Caribbean

designer, and this is my style.

A lot of sandals...

To kind of bring down the look a

bit.

I think that's what I should

be doing.

>> They're gonna say,

"Why this?"

You have this and then you have

this.

>> So are you gonna cut it?

>> I might.

I really want to show the judges

that I could edit.

I don't have to be emotionally

attached to these pieces,

even though I am.

I mean, I like the tail, but

whatever.

Whatevs.

It's a little bit painful, but

it has to be done.

And after this, I make my own

However I want.

>> Oh, this is beautiful.

>> Thank you.

>> I pictured because it was

short--you're the only one with

short hair, 'cause I'm kinda

gonna make you look like me.

>> This is the moment when

everything really starts to come

together.

And I'm just getting giddy, like

a child, because everything

looks really amazing.

So this is the piece I have to

make.

It was a jumper with the

drape in the front.

I'm basically--

>> That's not a good thing.

>> Remaking it in three hours,

but I can do it.

I think I bring something

innovative to the table,

something that you have to

really look at and discover the

amazing things that are within

them, even though they're so

bold in your face.

>> Can you pull that in a

centimeter?

I think that a fitting's

actually making me feel quite

good, because I am seeing the

garments in a whole different

way.

And the long, lean proportion is

just amazing for the garments.

And I'm happy about that.

>> It looks amazing on her.

This is, for me, a dream.

This is, like, magical.

And it's just so cool, I just

cannot wait for everybody to see

it.

I am still cutting hems on the

dresses, and I have no other

methodology other than to lay

the dress on the floor.

I don't know if I'm gonna make

it, honestly.

I've made it so many other times

before with some crazy magic,

And, as exhausted as we are,

>> I started doing this after my

brother died, and so it's always

about that for me.

To be showing my collection

that was inspired by my brother,

it's amazing.

There's a lot of balled-up

emotions right now, but

ultimately very happy feelings.

Because, I mean, who gets to

It's extremely rewarding to have

made it this far, to have worked

this hard, and to be extremely

proud of a collection that I'm

about to show hundreds of

people.

I've grown so much in terms of

an editing department, you know?

It's becoming more and more

obvious to me how much this

means to me.

It's hard to even imagine being

this close and not making it.

Each of you put on an amazing

show, but only one of you can be

Let's bring out your models.

Okay, Kimberly, tell us about

your inspiration and your

collection.

>> Being an urban girl, what I

wanted to do with the collection

was show how we can take urban

into a fashion-forward glam

sensibility.

So I just infused what I see

just to lead girls in urban a

little bit in fashion and give

them something a little

elevated.

>> First off, you managed to

listen to everything we said the

other day, but still hold on to

Kimberly.

I like this pink dress very

much, but I like the idea that

it was this ladylike dress that

was surprisingly hot, with the

cutout.

That black gown was killer

diller.

The only thing that kind of

bothered me, you had this very

fabulous, printed, floaty dress.

The fuchsia under-dress kind of

killed the fluidity of the

dress.

>> Mm-hmm.

>> 'Cause the dress was great.

I mean, you're all about

exuberance, glamour, and the

kick-ass attitude.

You want to keep that.

>> Yes.

>> I mean, that's you.

>> I loved when I saw the little

lame miniskirt, and it was sort

of like hyper-glamour urban,

which I thought was really

exciting.

I love the pink dress.

I thought, "Wow, I could really

see that on a Hollywood

starlet."

>> Can we see the back of this

dress?

>> Mm-hmm.

>> I'm curious.

>> Oh.

>> Fabulous.

>> That's a fabulous dress.

>> Even more exciting without

the jacket.

>> It's hot.

>> Thank you.

>> My favorite was the ivory

pants and the ivory blouse.

I would have loved to have seen

more of that kind of stuff,

because I feel like that is who

you are.

I love the pants that you had

here last time.

The black dress.

I mean, you fixed a lot of the

things I had problems with

last time.

>> I tried to listen.

>> You had the big volume on the

bubble skirt, and then you had

the cream jacket with it, and it

was also very puffy up here.

>> It was bubblicious.

>> It was bubblicious all over

the place, you know.

I feel like, if the skirt is

bubbly, I don't know.

Maybe a tighter top.

I do like the little peek-a-boo

things.

You kind of could see that

throughout.

And I like that idea.

I thought that was great.

>> Thank you.

>> You did a great job in

changing things around.

Particularly with the backless

look.

That top with the black skinny

pants looked contemporary,

looked right, looked fantastic.

What I like the most about your

design, Kimberly, is that you

have the ability to take

something like this wonderful

blue metallic, which is a rich

fabric, and make it very easy

and very modern.

And I would have liked to see

more of that.

But I loved your finale dress.

>> Joshua.

>> Well, I really wanted to

display what I'm all about in

terms of my tailoring meets my

draping.

And I'm learning to play with,

you know, new ideas.

But in an edited version, in

many ways.

>> I liked your collection a

lot.

I totally got your point of

view of the merger of soft and

hard.

Each piece has a lot of

interest, but it's not too crazy

that you can't wear it.

I also like that psychedelic

print that you had.

It's a really cool and gutsy

print to do.

I like those green shorts.

They were a little wild.

But it worked.

>> You like a lot.

You're a lot.

Kind of like a schizophrenic.

You were, like, slapping your

own hand.

And, boy, it served you well.

The clothes are very designed

and beautifully made.

You don't need all the

histrionics.

I think that your editing was

really, really well done.

I know it's a battle for you.

I was afraid we were gonna get a

blue eyebrow or God knows, you

know?

And you really, really held back

and let your work shine.

>> From the dress opening the

show, which was so beautifully

draped and interesting, to the

final dress, I was very

impressed.

Your use of materials is very

interesting.

And I think you have a complete

vision that's very yours,

and you tell a story which makes

sense from beginning to end.

So congratulations.

I thought it all looked really

great.

>> Thank you.

>> I like the collection very

It was very editorial.

If I saw this show, I would be

very interested, I would want to

see more.

Those green shorts, to be

completely honest with you, when

i saw them down the runway, I

wasn't too convinced.

But when I see it shot, I want

to photograph them.

I think that would look great.

And I like the fact that you

experiment with new materials.

>> Thank you.

>> You know, the neoprene thing

and the plastic are both

materials that can look very

gimmicky and very kind of like,

"Oh, God, who wants to wear

that?"

And you made it look believable

that a woman shopping in a store

would say, "Okay, you know what?

I'll give plastic or neoprene a

go."

>> Yeah, good point.

>> That's great.

>> Viktor.

>> My inspiration is marrying

Mexico, where I come from, and

also the city that I love,

New York.

It's kind of like a beach girl

meets city.

I tried a lot to kind of sexify

it and make it more younger and

youthful.

And I also like that rock and

roll girl, 'cause I think

everybody has that rock and roll

in them.

>> I'm loving the printed

pieces.

They really, really are

fantastic.

When I look at these motocross

pants and I look at that sharp

dress that you opened with,

there's a sense of tailoring and

polish that's very you.

Where you lost me a bit was too

much of this transparency.

A little bit like a runway joke.

You know, it's on a 19-year-old

model, and she's a size two,

and, wow, she can walk out in

her underwear, showing it.

Isn't that great?

But just walking around like

that?

But the prints were great, and I

think the tailored pieces were

stellar.

>> You had me at the first look.

It was great.

It was so well constructed.

You execute beautifully, which I

was really impressed with.

I loved the long dress with the

print in the front.

I could really see some young

Hollywood actress wearing that

and looking fabulously tall and

glamorous.

I wasn't really a fan of the

sheer dress.

It doesn't always have to be on

display.

Sometimes a little to the

imagination can be exciting too.

Overall, as a collection, I

thought it really made sense.

I thought it had a very cool

vibe, and it was very you and

very cohesive to what I've seen

you do this season, which were

some really beautiful, amazing

clothes, so...

>> You had a lot of pieces that

I liked.

The pant with the mirror top and

with the jacket, I thought that

looked amazing.

I love the gown.

That is a beautiful, beautiful

dress.

But then it's almost like you

showed us two shows.

One is like this hard kind of

bitchy girl...a lot of

see-through, super-sexy.

To me, it reads a little cheap.

So for me, I was a little bit

like that.

But I did love a lot of your

pieces.

>> Thank you.

>> I loved what you did with the

printed pieces.

That's something that we would

shoot.

That's something the editors

would be inspired by.

The four pieces that you did in

black chiffon were a missed

opportunity.

It would have been interesting

to see the printed with the

chiffon.

>> Mm-hmm.

>> But the pieces that you did

make, especially the first one,

was absolutely fabulous.

I even love the little beaded

top--very editorial.

This is what we're looking for:

Special pieces, pieces that will

photograph well.

So good job.

>> Anya, tell us about your

inspiration and your collection.

>> The initial inspiration for

me was a trip to Tobago.

I was very inspired by the

general vibe of the island.

The colors, the textures, and

the ease of living there and the

way that we dress--an easy,

sexy vibe.

>> I really like the vibe of

your collection.

>> Thank you.

>> Who doesn't wanna be that

girl?

You pick a lot of amazing

fabrics.

And even though they're all

different, they all kind of

work.

But then, when I think about the

construction side of it, you

didn't have to do as much as

others had to do, you know.

So I'm thinking, like, is that

okay?

Out of ten looks, eight have the

same neckline.

>> In your instance, it was,

"Oh, my God, I want to make this

print statement."

So you probably did sacrifice

diversity in the shapes.

But then you showed all the

prints.

I have to tell you, you had my

favorite opener.

It was cut fabulously.

To cut clothes that are plunged,

it really takes the right skill.

And it was sexy without being

slutty.

It had...

>> Moved.

>> Movement, glamour, and I love

this dress.

It's got some edge, but it's

still got a boho vibe.

It's got both.

You can push it even more.

I know you can.

>> Yeah.

>> And the one thing I have to

say about the Caribbean thing,

you are gonna have to be

cognizant of the fact that

not everyone's in a caftan...

floating around the world at all

times.

So variety is important.

>> Yes.

>> I thought your use of print

was really spectacular.

The brown dress belted was

really amazing.

It looked so interestingly

constructed.

I was sort of struggling, like,

what would I wear in the city?

I can't wear the plunge.

Sometimes you have to think

about it working for lots of

different types of women.

But I thought you did a really

beautiful job.

So congratulations.

>> I like the collection very

much.

You are fabulous with prints.

I loved the bathing suit.

I mean, it's phenomenal.

Your clothes are very you.

I wish I would see some pieces

that could translate into a more

urban atmosphere.

Think about it more on the

retailer side.

>> Okay.

>> I was worried the last time

you were up here.

>> Yeah.

>> There was one piece out of

three that most of us liked.

>> Yeah.

>> The two pieces, we were

really, like, "Ooh, what did she

make?"

And you really turned it around.

Why should you win

Project Runway?

>> I feel I've demonstrated a

tremendous amount of tenacity

and development, and what I

began with and I still have is

that distinct point of view.

>> Joshua, what about you?

>> In terms of learning to edit

myself personally shows that

I'm willing to move forward with

this and start my journey as a

designer and bring great,

innovative ideas to this

industry.

>> Viktor.

>> I have passion for it.

I really wanna continue.

I admire Christian Siriano, how

he took it and made a big label.

And I want to do similar.

I really appreciate everything I

learned here.

I really love the experience.

>> Kimberly, why should you win

>> I think my point of view is

clear and is not represented

much in fashion, because it's

personal to me.

I think that I would represent

you guys really well as the

winner, just having that

different point of view.

We all had a roller coaster.

And that's the best thing about

it is ending up on that high.

>> It really was a high point.

>> Well, I think Kimberly had a

lot of great clothes, but I

don't know if it made for a

great collection.

But I think there are a lot

of great individual pieces.

>> Yeah, I thought she had a

really clear point of view.

>> There is not a lot of that

out there.

>> Yeah, she has something

different to say.

>> And it's a female voice

as well, which is different.

>> Absolutely.

>> And it's urban, and she's

cool, and I thought that her

clothes looked really great,

aside from those few kind of

clunky mistakes.

>> Listen, the black gown at the

end is a fabulous gown.

>> Fabulous.

>> Sexy, sophisticated.

When she took the jacket off of

this pink dress, it was great.

>> That was a great dress.

>> I think she's a very good

designer, but I think she needs

a little more time.

>> Plus, we always compare.

It is a competition, and maybe

the other designers are just a

little bit better in this

instance.

>> Her clothes were great, but

she's not there yet.

>> Let's talk about Viktor.

>> Great tailoring, beautifully

made.

I don't know that it was really

a perfectly connected fashion

show.

I think there was some wonderful

clothes there, but I think there

was definitely, you know, hills

and valleys.

>> For me, it was too put

together.

One was really over-the-top

sexy, super-see-through, all

black.

>> Mm-hmm.

>> And the other collection was

very sophisticated, beautiful

prints, tailored.

>> There are some pieces in this

collection that I'm in love

with.

I want that little dress.

>> I love that dress.

>> I mean, it's beautiful.

>> It's great!

When I look at the printed pant,

the mirrored tank, and the black

jacket, all three pieces on

their own are spectacular, and

the combination together...

>> Is fabulous.

>> Is perfect.

>> Fabulous.

Sadly, he had four missed

opportunities here with the

black.

But he has done some really

beautiful, exceptionally great

clothes.

>> Is he ready?

>> I do think he could start his

own brand.

>> Yes, if you can picture a

woman who's an adult...

>> Yeah.

>> Not feeling like an old lady

in the clothes.

And that's commercially

successful.

>> Anya.

>> Two days ago, we hate two out

of three of the looks.

She had an identity crisis.

In two days, full about-face.

>> She does everything, like,

last-minute.

>> She learned how to sew at the

last minute and pulled the

rabbit out of the hat.

>> In four months.

>> Tim went to see her at home.

She hadn't done a single thing.

>> What?

>> Oh, really?

>> So how good is she performing

under pressure?

How often do we have to perform

miracles under pressure?

>> All the time.

She found those black and white

prints at the last minute.

They didn't look like they were

added to me at all.

>> She has good taste.

>> She has taste, she has style.

>> She has good taste.

>> I agree with you about the

necklines.

You know, it was a v-neck fest.

>> Maybe she has potential to

really evolve even more.

>> She is so gifted, and she's

got such great eye for patterns.

That's what she's good at.

>> She might need to have

more variety and realize not

everyone, you know, can go

braless and wear something

plunging.

>> I wish she would have layered

it a little bit more.

Maybe a lightweight sweater or

something to not just do dress,

dress, dress, dress.

>> I get it.

>> Turn the volume up a little

bit more.

>> While I think it was a little

bit one-note, it certainly

wasn't hills and valleys, where

you said, "Oh, where did that

come from?"

>> She is her brand.

She's cool, she looks the part.

>> But I think women who design

clothes, you are your brand.

>> Yeah.

>> So what do you think her next

collection will look like?

Or the collection after that?

>> I trust that she's smart

enough to be able to do it.

>> When you think about this

guy who has such a tendency to

over-design everything...this

was a focused show...

with gorgeous tailoring.

The clothes were interesting.

The prints were fun.

The styling was really cohesive.

>> Very. I mean, probably the

best styling was his.

>> Definitely.

>> And this is somebody that

came from the worst styling.

>> Did you ever think that we

were going to say that?

>> No, never.

>> Never in a million years.

>> He just bedazzles himself,

but not his models.

>> But not the models.

>> And it was a gutsy show.

>> Oh, very.

>> It wasn't safe.

>> No, wasn't safe, but it--

>> We could have really...

>> Could have been a freak show.

>> Gone and been like, "Oh, we

hate the green.

We hate the print."

>> The neoprene, the plastic.

On the other hand, that foray in

the middle with the sad jacket

and putting the striped top

under it, that was a little--

threw me off.

>> Well, that was, like, his one

misstep, really.

>> Yeah, the rest of it was so--

>> Solid, yes.

>> Solid collection.

>> He's gutsy.

>> He has a lot of ideas.

Maybe too many ideas.

But he's got ideas!

In a way, Anya, has a more

unique point of view.

>> I can picture what an Anya

bag, an Anya shoe, an Anya piece

of jewelry might look like.

And that tells me that she has

the potential to have a serious

business with a serious

following.

On the other hand, Josh's

clothes today, was there more

design to them, more tailoring,

more work, more thought?

Yes.
