In 1989, the 20th anniversary of Jan
Palach's death saw the largest

demonstrations against the
Communist regime since the 1960s.

10 months later, the totalitarian
regime in Czechoslovakia collapsed.

In December, 1989,
Dr. Dagmar Buresova

was appointed
Minister of Justice.

Jan Palach was posthumously given
the Order of T. G. Masaryk in 1991,

for outstanding contributions
to democracy and human rights.

This film is dedicated to the memory
of Jan Palach, Jan Zajic,

Evzen Plocek, Ryszard Siwiec and
all those who sacrificed their lives

in the struggle for freedom.
