I was off -- Off-duty, not on call.

Kind of a catch-up day.

Yeah, they found a body Out in stoner hill.

Really?

Stoner hill's A pretty old neighborhood.

This isn't the first dead body That we found in stoner hill,

But it's not as common As in other parts of town.

Officer: our guy was taking A stroll this morning.

He calls in about an hour ago. It's pretty damn gruesome.

Somebody sure Wanted him dead.

Yeah, I count about 20 bullet wounds on him.

He had gunshot wounds In his leg, his torso, his arm.

The most gruesome part About this scene was

That he had multiple Gunshot wounds to his head.

The gunshot wounds Were pretty devastating,

To the point where Part of his jaw was missing.

Do we know who he is?

Nope, no I.D.

But we did find $200 In his pockets.

Well, that takes robbery Off the table, right?

Demery: the fact that The shell casings were present

Made it clear that he was shot And killed at that location.

At this point, We didn't know much,

But I've already got a hunch About the motive.

The symbolic overkill suggested

That this wasn't anything That was personal.

It wasn't anything that was Passionate or whimsical.

This was something that was Plotted out, planned.

Look, somebody was Sending a message with that.

Illegal narcotics have been An issue in shreveport

For a very long time.

As poverty rises, Drug activity rises.

To see if he's had any problems With anybody.

Who he may have been Hanging around with.

Basically, they didn't Give us, really, any leads.

On the periphery of One drug dealer's operation.

And a man who ordered His murder might have been

The one Who's running it.

Our old buddy Waco collins, huh?

Waco is the most ruthless Drug dealer and murderer

In the history of the city.

Waco is known to be A top-level guy

In the drug world in shreveport.

He's bringing in major weight Of powder cocaine,

Pills, marijuana.

He came up on our list As the baddest of the bad.

Let's see what We've got on him.

Mack: the police knew That waco collins was

A big drug kingpin In shreveport.

But up until this point, They just didn't have enough

To put him away for good.

Demery: but like Any good kingpin,

Waco collins usually has One of his henchmen

Do his dirty work.

So the question now is,

Who did he send To take out anthony crain?

If waco's involved in this case,

That's the kind of person I want to chase.

Is waco collins' Second-in-command,

So they're curious about What he's about to divulge.

Okay, Give me a minute.

Kevin smith is saying

That waco is involved In crain's murder.

Why would he do that?

I don't know. But I'm gonna find out.

Rudell: it's not very common That a higher-level drug dealer

Like kevin smith Would come in.

At this point, we are wondering What his motive it.

Rudell: I appreciate You coming in.

But I'll have to admit, I'm kind of confused as to why.

Hey, man, Let me take a look, please.

Now, when kevin smith Comes in to talk

To the homicide detectives, I can hear the conversation.

I think waco's gonna Try and kill me.

Why would He want to do that?

Me and waco -- We in business together.

And that dude, anthony crain, That you found murdered,

Well, he ripped us off.

Rudell: he told us that He had a large amount

Of money and narcotics In his residence.

He said anthony crain Had been over there,

Saw this stuff in his house, And he suspected

That he was the one That committed the burglary.

He said he'd received These narcotics

From waco collins.

And then when I told waco That anthony crain

Ripped us off, He lost it.

I almost thought he Was gonna kill me

If I didn't get it back.

How do you guys know Anthony crain?

He worked for us. He was the cutter.

Townley: A cutter or a cooker --

That's the guy that's gonna take Powdered cocaine, small amount,

And cook it and make a larger Amount of crack cocaine.

So, this whole thing With anthony crain

Stealing drugs, That's how he got murdered.

It starts to bother me.

He told me about a dope rip That waco did in dallas, texas,

Another rip in houston, texas,

Telling me about other crimes That waco committed.

At this point, I'm realizing That waco collins' operation

But for whatever reason, He's not giving me any specifics

On the murder of anthony crain.

It all started with the body Of anthony crain,

Found on the side of the road Riddled with bullets.

After anthony crain Was found murdered,

Kevin smith unexpectedly comes Into the police station.

Now that I've inserted myself Into this drug murder,

I expected kevin to give me Some information

On the anthony crain homicide.

But kevin's giving me murders That we knew nothing about.

He's telling me about a murder That waco committed in 2009.

You actually have some Information on this murder?

I know all about this.

Cool. Let's hear What you got.

Kevin told me that In august 2009,

Waco had an individual

By the name Of kevin earl edwards killed.

I didn't work that case,

But, fortunately, My colleague greg rudell did.

And he had reason to believe

Edwards was one of waco collins' Top lieutenants.

Rudell: I interviewed His girlfriend, tina wesley.

She tells me she's coming home,

The place is supposed To be safe.

And as she's entering Her residence,

She's bum-rushed by intruders.

-hey, what's going on, man? -where's the money, punk?

Rudell: he's dead asleep.[ woman screaming ]

He's startled.

He wakes up. A struggle ensues.

Where's the money?

[ both grunting ]

[ screaming ]

One of them shoots kevin edwards Multiple times

In his upper-body area, Which results in his death.

[ woman crying ]

Cry for him, huh?

[ whimpers ]

Demery: hearing this, I'm asking myself

The same questions About kevin edwards

As I am anthony crain.

Why would waco collins Want to take out

One of his top lieutenants?

Mack: investigators are sweeping The apartment for clues,

And they've located A piece of a latex glove,

Which contained a fingerprint.

Rudell: it was ultimately Processed for dna.

That dna was matched To an individual --

Dion lewis.

And he was ultimately arrested For the murder of kevin edwards.

Demery: the second gunman Was never identified.

And like so many times before,

Police had no concrete way Of linking waco to the murder.

That is, until we learned About a love triangle

Involving waco

And the victim's girlfriend, Tina wesley.

They was lovers.

And then when kevin earl Found out about that,

Kevin explained that waco had Some sort of relationship

With edwards' girlfriend

And at some point, Edwards and waco were at odds.

Now waco realized he needed To take kevin earl out

Before kevin earl Took himout.

So he hired two hit men -- Dion lewis, shannon golston.

With dion lewis Already behind bars,

Kevin smith has just served up The second shooter

On a silver platter.

Though detective rudell and I Have heard

The name shannon golston before.

Two weeks After kevin earl was killed,

Shannon golston Was found murdered.

Shannon golston was found Lying facedown

On the floor Of his sister's apartment.

Shannon golston was somebody That was very dangerous.

He was serious. He was real.

Shannon golston was a gangster.

It was obvious to us That it was probably a hit

That someone was our man Waco collins.

While interviewing kevin smith, He tells us that waco collins

Is responsible For shannon golston's murder.

Yeah, and right after the hit, Waco took himout.

Why would waco Put a hit on golston?

He didn't put a hit on him. Waco did it himself.

Now, why would he take the risk Of doing it himself?

Now, that right there, Man, I don't know.

The one that's in jail On the drug charge?

Has spiraled Into a triple homicide,

At the eye of which

Is shreveport's Most wanted criminal,

In 2009, Waco was working with a guy

By the name of timothy williams, Goes by the name prime.

Prime and waco were arrested For possession of cocaine.

Waco got out on a technicality. Prime was still in jail.

And one is just Remove some barriers

Where he'll actually talk.

According to prime, Golston told everybody

That he was gonna kill waco.

As it got more serious, Word got back to waco,

And waco figured He needed to kill him.

You never threaten waco And live.

Everybody knows that.

Townley: waco collins Was the kind of guy

That if you kind of Screwed him around,

He had no problem Taking care of you.

He ruled his organization By fear

And intimidation And by violence.

So, who did the hit On shannon golston?

I heard waco did it.

Mack: so, now investigators Have two people

Who have identified waco collins

As being directly involved In shannon golston's murder.

Demery: but that's when prime Adds another name

To this already sordid Cast of characters.

But it was another guy In on it, too.

And it didn't take long For him to start talking.

So when he came to me Saying this golston guy

Was threatening To kill him,

I was ready to help my brother With whatever he needed.

Rudell: he tells rod Waco collins calls him,

Tells him he needs a heater --

Which on the street is He needs a gun --

That he needs to get shannon Before shannon gets him.

So, what's All this [bleep]?

I think that's His apartment over--

Demery: he says That the two of them decide

To sort of recon the area Where golston's staying,

At his sister's apartment Complex, and scout it out

And see him Sitting out on the porch.

We gonna go And check everyone out.

...And begins to fire shots, Follows him in.

Shoots him in the back, In the shoulder,

And in the back of the head.

Waco came running Back to the car.

He said it was done.

And then we left.

Okay.

So, what happened to the gun That was used to kill golston?

After timbo Tells me the story,

I want some physical evidence.

What he says really Doesn't matter

Unless I can corroborate it.

It's in champion lake.

That's where we ditched it That day he was shot.

The body of water That he's talking about

Is not a flowing, Rushing river,

So the odds of The gun being there,

Although very, very slim, They're possible.

So my next order of business Was go to the lake,

See if I could Find the weapon.

We was standing right here When waco tossed it in.

Most notorious killers, Waco collins.

I've learned that He's probably responsible

For the murder Of shannon golston.

But unlike two other murders Waco is tied to,

Waco allegedly Pulled the trigger

On shannon golston himself.

We have a dive team In the water,

Hoping to locate the gun That killed shannon golston.

I brought in timothy thomas,

Who's told me that he and waco Committed this murder.

After nearly an hour, I'm starting to lose hope,

But just then,

I see one of the divers Start to resurface.

Demery: Yes! Damn right.

They pop up, And they actually have the gun.

I'm feeling really good.

The stories about the murders And the drug dealing

Are all coming to fruition.

I realize this case Is closer to being closed.

And to find some evidence That actually can get you there

Is incredible.

Mack: when they sent it over To the ballistics lab,

The gun matches The projectiles found

At shannon golston's murder.

Demery: but waco collins Has a high-powered lawyer

And has dodged Convictions before.

A case that's gone cold so long Really needs a little extra

As far as evidence To make it credible.

We decide to canvass Waco collins' neighborhood

In hopes of finding someone With new info on him.

The information I've gotten From kevin smith

And everyone else is okay,

But I want to hear what Somebody else can give me,

Someone that's not, Maybe, a drug dealer.

And my pals in the narcotics Unit have just the thing.

So, what, He wants to come clean

About him and waco Taking out anthony crain?

Not exactly.

But, for immunity On the drug charges,

He's willing to give us waco In a drug deal in houston.

Rudell: waco has a female That he uses as a mule

That goes to houston, Picks up narcotics,

Brings them back to shreveport.

And then it's delivered to him, And they distribute it.

Mack: at this point, This is the best chance

Investigators have Of arresting waco.

If what kevin says is true

And they are able to follow This person with the drugs,

Then waco's gonna be arrested.

If waco's arrested, then I get The chance to talk to him.

We want in. What's the plan?

We'll coordinate with The local police.

We're gonna Follow his female.

They're supposed to be Coming back with waco,

Drop off the drugs In shreveport.

When's all this Going down?

According to kevin smith, he's Leaving for houston tomorrow.

Tracking this drug mule is A huge undertaking.

We knew we had A high-level drug dealer,

Possibly tied To multiple homicides,

So it was a great joint effort

Between state, federal, And local law enforcement.

Our plan during this time is

To conduct surveillance On the ground.

The d.E.A. Had a helicopter,

Which was gonna Give air support.

We had agents in vehicles And the helicopter

Follow the drug mule to houston.

Man: subject is on the move. She's on the move.

Townley: bird in the air makes A lot easier surveillance

Because they can fly At altitudes

Where they can't even tell They're up there.

Man: she's pulling Into the garage now.

Are very confident that waco's Gonna eventually emerge

With a payload of drugs.

But it's obvious To investigators

He isn't telling The whole truth.

Waco says that golston's murder

Was committed by the others And not him.

Based on the fact that waco and Shannon were lifelong friends

And the fact that waco Usually hires hit men

To do his dirty work, I'm thinking timbo was the one

Who actually shot Shannon golston.

There were a few things That made it clear

That timbo was The trigger man --

The fact that timbo Acquired the gun,

The fact that timbo was able To tell me where the gun was.

I think waco was A very good person

At orchestrating And pulling strings on things.

Waco is this mass manipulator.

The one that first Pulled me into this case --

The fatal attack On anthony crain,

Or, as waco calls him, "Nene."

Waco says it all began A few days before the murder,

When kevin smith informed him That anthony crain,

His top dope cutter, Had been skimming profits --

To the tune of 10 g's.

Waco wanted somebody to be Punished for it,

And kevin went out And secured a weapon,

And at some point, he and waco Brought crain from his home

And took him out To where he was killed.
