(male narrator) Yogi's birthday party.
[instrumental music]
screech
Hold it, hold it! Hold it!
The Y. Uh, the Y is too low.
Uh, lift it up. Up! Lift it up!
That's it, that's it.
We've only got a couple of minutes to airtime.
Now, go over the theme again.
Uh, get number-three camera in position.
Where's the microphone? We need a mic! Give me the mic.
[thud]
Oh, boy, television.
- Two seconds. - Oh, ready or not, here we go.
(male #1) 'You're on!'
Good evening, folks.
I'm Ranger Smith of Jellystone Park.
And welcome to the Yogi-Bear surprise birthday party.
[audience cheering]
And the big surprise is that we kept it a secret
from Yogi, but we did.
It all started back at Jellystone Park.
[telephone ringing]
Yes, this is Jellystone. Ranger Smith speaking.
Yes, we have a bear named Yogi.
[indistinct chattering on phone]
You're gonna give him a what?
A surprise birthday party for Yogi?
On TV?
Oh, no.. No, no.
We never make any big fuss for any of the bears' birthdays.
Uh, Yogi will be lucky to get a picnic basket
with a few sandwiches in it.
You insist he's going to have a special birthday show?
Who is this?
[indistinct chattering on phone]
Oh. Oh. Oh!
The sponsor? Oh, boy.
Uh, well, on second thought
that-that's a wonderful idea!
Eh.. keep it a secret from Yogi?
Oh, come now, you must be kidding.
Uh, we've never been able to figure a way
to keep anything a secret from Yogi Bear.
[indistinct chattering on phone]
Well, I'll try my best, sir.
Now, how about that?
For Yogi, a surprise birthday special TV show.
For my birthday, a book
"Trees Of North America I've Known."
Sheesh! Who needs it?
And keep it a secret from Yogi? Oh, boy, that's a laugh.
Keeping a secret from Yogi
is like hiding Lake Michigan from a duck
especially a special Yogi Bear TV show!
A special TV show for me, sir?
Did I hear you correctly, sir?
Yogi, you must have built-in radar
in those big ears of yours.
Uh, no, sir, it just so happens
my hearing is very cute
much cuter than the average.
But, uh, what about the show, sir?
Oh, boy.. I've just got to tell him something.
Uh, well, Yogi
we're going into the big city next week
and you're going to star in a half-hour special show
which comes as a big surprise to me.
Well, that comes as no big surprise to me, sir.
They've had an evening with this one
an evening with that one
then it's only logical to have an evening with Yogi Bear.
And with my accumulated talents
it'll be one enchanted evening.
Yogi, your modesty overwhelms me.
Well, it's because I have so much to be modest about.
It overwhelms everybody.
Now, uh, if you'll pardon me, sir
I shall spread the glad tidings around the park.
I don't know how long we can keep
the birthday party a surprise
but so far, so good.
There's only one Yogi, which is good.
The world isn't ready for two.
vroom
screech
Ooh! He got me.
A government-protected bear
struck down in his prime ribs.
[thud]
Heavens, George, you've run over a bear!
I thought I stopped in time.
Hey, bear. Get up!
Please, bear, speak!
Say something, say something, please!
Okay, sir. Uh, don't weep on the lapels.
Be sure you watch the Yogi-Bear special show next week.
Oh, Mr. Chef, sir. Open up, it's Yogi Bear.
Yogi, beat it.
No handouts allowed, and you know it.
I come not to take. I come to give.
- Here's a present for ya. - Hm. "Yogi Bear."
- What does it mean? - It's my autograph.
It'll be worth a lot of money
after my smash hit on TV next week. Watch it.
It'll be a gasser, a ring-a-ding swingin' thing.
- Yay! - Oh, boy.
[instrumental music]
boing boing boing
Wow, what a strike!
It must be a whopper!
whirr whirr
The Yogi-Bear special TV show next week
is gonna be a whopper, too! Don't miss it.
[chuckles] Yogi has been telling everyone to tune in on his show.
He thinks he's gonna perform.
What's this?
Someone's littering the park with papers.
"Don't miss the Yogi Bear special TV show next week.
Signed Yogi Bear."
I might have known. Yogi!
Turn on your TV set and see the best show yet.
Yogi Bear will be on the air.
Well, I've alerted everyone except Cindy and Boo Boo.
I wonder where they are.
- 'Hey, Yogi.' - Boo Boo and Cindy.
(Cindy) Hi, Yogi.
We heard the news from Mr. Ranger, Yogi.
I, uh, suppose you are referring
to my TV special next week?
Yes, Mr. Ranger told us all about it.
Well, uh, one thing for sure.
It'll be a really big show.
Uh, just what'll you do on the show?
Well, uh, I'll sing a few songs
uh, do a few dances
uh, maybe some card tricks, tickle the ivories
tell a few jokes and leave 'em laughin'.
You won't need the jokes, Yogi.
Your dancin' will leave 'em laughin'.
I didn't know you had all that talent, Yogi.
Well, uh, you know the old sayin', Cindy
"Still water runs deep."
That ain't funny, but it's philosophical.
I may look like a square bear
but inside I'm a broonin' tune.
A showbiz bear hits the air.
Hey-hey!
Yogi doesn't suspect about his birthday surprise at all.
No, he thinks he's gonna do an act, and he isn't.
[both laughing]
Well, uh, I guess I'll start rehearsing.
First, uh, a little Terpsichore
and after that, dancing.
I really don't know whether I can dance or not.
I never tried.
[humming]
thud
Well, there's my trouble. I got two left feet.
In a case like this, I hear that dancing lessons help.
That's right. For once, we have Yogi Bear fooled.
He thinks he's gonna perform.
He's calling his show, get this
"One Enchanted Evening With Yogi Bear."
No, he can't do anything.
Sing? Are you kidding?
The last time he sang, a herd of moose
stampeded into the park from Canada.
It took three weeks before we got them back.
I give him A for effort, though.
Right now, I understand he's taking
dancing lessons from Fred Upstairs.
Okay, Yogi, now, let's try that "Off to Buffalo" again.
[piano music]
Mm-hm. That's it. Get the beat.
That's it, Yogi. Now go.
I can go alright, but I can't stop.
crash
Sunday drivers.
Okay, Yogi, now go into the split position.
'That's good, Yogi. Good.'
- 'Now spring up.' - I can't, sir.
I think my spring is sprunged.
'You got nothing to worry about, Yogi.'
'You'll be alright in an hour.'
Oh, that's good, sir. An hour just flies by. Shee.
(Boppy) 'Yogi, baby, I'm gonna make a singing'
swinging cat out of you, Yogi.
With lots of rhythm, there's snap, man.
Let's see you snap your fingers, baby.
It's important to finger-popping singers today.
I need practice with that, sir.
- I got soft pads. - 'Crazy.'
Let's hear you do this.
[scatting]
[scatting]
I bit my tongue.
Oh, forget it, man. Maybe you're better on the horn.
Listen, man.
[trumpet music]
'Okay, you try it, Yogi.'
'That's it.'
'Yogi, swing.'
'Blow it out, man.'
'Watch those eardrums. Baby.'
'Hey, man, I'm afraid you got a tin ear.'
A tin ear?
You'd think I would've noticed a thing like that before this.
I haven't seen Yogi all week, Cindy. Have you?
No, I haven't, Boo Boo.
But I understand that he's been taking piano lessons.
It's too bad Yogi's working so hard for nothing.
But we can't tell him, or we'd spoil
his birthday surprise party.
I'd sure love to see Yogi trying to play a piano.
[piano music]
Hey-hey-hey! Look, Ma, no hands.
(Rocky) 'That was wonderful, Yogi. Just wonderful.'
- 'Very good footwork.' - Thank you, sir.
Don't send it. I'll take it with me.
With my tin ear, this is the only way I can carry a tune.
Be careful of that loose top step, Yogi.
[crashing]
He-he-hey.
(Yogi) 'Some teachers I had.'
They had a whole week to teach me, and I didn't learn a thing.
Yogi, those are good teachers. You are a no-talent bear.
- And just who are you, shorty? - I'm your conscience, sir.
Conscience? Gee. I didn't even know I had one.
And consciences always tell the truth.
And the truth is, Yogi, you have absolutely
no show-biz talent.
You know, shorty, I think you're right.
Of course I'm right. I'm smarter than the average conscience.
[chuckles]
Wouldn't you know I'd have one like that?
But what am I gonna do?
I have to appear on a special show tonight.
You wouldn't dare.
You better pawter out, get lost, and stay that way.
Here comes Yogi now, Mr. Ranger.
Good. Now, don't make any slips, Cindy and Boo-Boo.
We don't wanna spoil Yogi's birthday surprise.
We'll be leaving in a couple of minutes, Yogi.
[chuckles] Yogi's so excited
he's getting into the driver's side of the car.
[car engine starts]
Yogi, come back here.
Close all the gates. Get the helicopters out.
Every man drop what he's doing and comb the park.
Get that bear. That's an order. Whew.
[barking]
vroom vroom
[instrumental music]
Oh, boy, they're gaining on me.
Keep your eyes on the road.
If you get in trouble, I'm in trouble.
So watch it.
This is Helicopter 6 calling in.
Yogi Bear has left the car.
He's headed into the woods east of the main road
'into Section A.'
[panting]
They'll never find me back in here.
Lost the trail? How could you do that?
You're all experienced woodsmen.
Yes, I know, I know.
He's smarter than the average bear.
But everyone's got a weakness
and I know Yogi's, picnic baskets.
Get a copter over Section A on the double.
I'm holding over Section A, sir.
Good, Jones. Now tie the rope to the basket.
- Got that? - 'Yes, sir.'
Now lower the basket into the forest.
(Jones) Basket being lowered, sir.
(Smith) Good. Good. Lower away.
'If Yogi's within five miles of that basket, he'll find it.'
- I've got a bite, sir. - 'Good. Pull him up.'
'Pull him up.'
Ooh, what a diabolical trap.
They know I can't resist a picnic basket.
I'm flying through the air with the greatest of ease
and shaky knees.
pop pop pop
creak creak
Ooh, ooh. I would pick a slippery rope.
I know bears can't fly, but I gotta try.
flap flap flap
swoosh
boing boing
Fine thing. He-he-he.
They make me run all the way home.
[instrumental music]
Well, that's how we did it.
We caught Yogi in time, and here he is.
No. No. Let me go.
I can't dance. Don't make me.
I can't sing. Don't ask me.
I am a no-talent bear.
Okay, men, put him down.
Hi, Yogi.
Please, Mr. Ranger, postpone the show.
I'm not ready. Give me another week.
Yogi, you don't have to do a thing on the show tonight
because, Yogi Bear of Jellystone Park
this is your birthday.
thud
Ha-ha. You can see, folks, Yogi is really surprised.
And while Yogi regains his composure
we'll have a word from his sponsor.
Tell us, Yogi, were you really surprised?
[mumbles]
Well, Yogi can't say anything yet.
But we can see that he is surprised, can't we, folks?
Here, Yogi, use my handkerchief.
Yogi, a lot of your friends
made the trip here today to be with you.
Listen. Do you recognize who this is?
(Huckleberry) 'Hi there, Yogi. A hound-dog howdy to you.'
- Who's that, Yogi? - The president?
No, not the president.
'It's Huckleberry Hound.'
Thanks. I knew it was the president.
The president of the Huckleberry Hound Fan Club.
Right, Yogi.
And here's another friend, Yogi.
(McGraw) Hold on there. Ouch. Ooch. Ooch, ouch..
That's Quick Draw McGraw.
I am going to ricochet a bullet off that bell
I hung up at the ceiling, and break the bottle on my nose.
Here goes.
[gunshot]
clang
Breaks the bottle every time.
Now here's another voice that should be familiar, Yogi.
(Jinksy) 'Hi. How's it going there, Yogi?'
'I wish your birthday is like, you know, happy.'
That's, uh.. I know it. I know it.
Let me see, uh, Pixie or Dixie?
Shee. Huh.
That you didn't know my voice, Yogi
makes me like, uh, astonished.
A present? You shouldn't have done it, Jinksy.
Oh, it's like, uh, you know, nothing.
- Happy birthday, Yogi. - Happy birthday, Yogi.
Pixie and Dixie. I thought you'd be here.
I told you it was nothing.
And there's nothing more nothing than those miserable meeces.
Look who's coming now, Yogi.
Do you think you'll find Yogi, Snoop?
Elementary school, Blab. I'm loaded for bear.
- Hey, fellas, here I am. - And there he is, Blab.
Gee, Snoop, I don't know how you do it. You're the greatest.
(Snagglepuss) Heavens to Murgatroyd, Yogi, I'm here too, three even.
My favorite mountain lion, Snagglepuss.
None other than.
Birthday present and accounted for.
Greetings and salutations.
Stops, delivers line in enthusiastical fashion.
Happy birthday, Yogi Bear. Exit, stage left.
And here, Yogi, are your pals
Hokey Wolf and his buddy Ding-A-Ling.
- Happy birthday, Yog. - How about that?
Hokey Wolf is sure a great ad-libber.
(Smith) 'And here's Augie Doggie and Doggie Daddy.'
Ahem. I extend my heartiest facilitations on this
your natal-day celebration.
[laughs]
That's my boy who said that.
(Smith) 'Cindy Bear and Boo-Boo.'
Oh, you guys. You knew it all the time.
That's right, Yogi, and we doesn't tell.
[chuckles] Look in the pan, Yogi.
(Yogi) 'Well, what do you know?'
'It's my favorite duck, Yakky Doodle.'
Happy birthday, Yogi.
And so, Yogi Bear of Jellystone Park
'as you sit here, surrounded by your friends'
'who have come here to wish you a happy birthday'
'you must have something you want to say'
'appropriate to this happy occasion.'
May I ask a question, sir?
Of course, Yogi. What is it you want to know?
Where's all my birthday presents?
[chuckles] 'That's a good question, Yogi.'
And the answer's over there.
[instrumental music]
'And those picnic baskets are loaded'
'with goodies and presents for you, Yogi.'
And to lead the gang in a musical tribute
to Yogi's birthday, here's Huckleberry Hound.
A hound-dog howdy to y'all.
