- [Poppy] Improbably Poppy!
Do we smoke in here?
- Hold it right there.
Nu-metal indietronica artist, Poppy. You know the rules.
- What are they?
- Smoking is not allowed in the studio
under any circumstances. Except one.
- Okay, I'm listening.
- Well, according to the bylaws
of the Improbably Poppy handbook,
smoking is never permitted on the stage floor
except under one circumstance.
If a crew member or friend,
because they are not the same thing,
is maimed and murdered in the studio.
- What's that guy do?
- He pulls the focus.
(gun firing)
(crew screaming)
- [Poppy] Don't talk to me about focus.
Now, I've heard a free will, but this is ridiculous.
- That's gonna put us behind. We may not make our day.
(dial up tone ringing)
(Poppys popping)
- 10 cases!
10 beautiful models in paintball protective gear.
One case says $1 million. The other nine? Less than that.
Tonight! On The Lucky-Case Game.
(energized electronic music)
(air hissing)
Tonight's guest is a long-time game show fanatic
as well as a, what? Playground designer? Worthless.
(model spitting)
Let's all give a big round of applause, Rudolph.
(audience cheering)
(models clapping)
- We're all such big fans of game shows.
- Huge fan.
- My deceased wife, especially.
- [Poppy] Well, Rudolph, no need to prolong the inevitable.
Let's get right to it.
You should know the rules. Pick a case, any case.
- I'm gonna go with case number seven, Grayson.
- [Contestant 1] Yeah.
- [Contestant 2] Good answer, good answer!
- Number seven! You think the million is in that, Rudolph?
- I'm feelin' it, Wolfie!
- What about your dad with you here, Rudy?
What does he think?
- My what? Who?
- With thin hair, scorched skins.
- Oh! Oh, that is my stepdad. They're all step.
Let's take a look inside case seven
and see if your call was correct, Rudolph.
Georgie! Gun!
Whenever you're ready.
- You got this.
- Here. Ai,.
(tense music building)
Fire.
(metal pinging)
(audience cheering)
(energized electronic music)
25,000!
- Oh my God!
- We did it! We did it!
- You owe us $25,000!
- What?
- You owe us what's in the case.
Ah, didn't you read the rules?
(contestant sighing)
- Thanks for nothing.
- I'm outta here.
- Now let's see where that one cent case is. Girls!
Cheyenne with the one cent case.
- Boss.
(Rudolph chuckling)
- I'm sorry, Rudy.
This part of the show is never easy for anyone.
But you do owe us $25,000
And you will pay what you owe.
- Grayson, I'm of modest means. Wife is dead.
I'm pleading with you, Grayson.
I don't, I don't have 25k.
(model retching)
I wish I had 25k.
(earnest suspenseful music)
Okay, kill me.
(gun firing)
(body dropping)
(eerie music building)
(wheel squeaking)
- No, but seriously.
Can I get a round of applause for my band?
Best house band in variety TV.
Ladies and gentlemen, Rodents Revenge.
(deathmetal music)
- Poppy?
- Yeah, what's up?
- Why did you kill the first AC?
- Well, I guess I never thought about it.
No one's ever asked me that before.
- He had a family.
- [Poppy] Okay.
But I have a family too. And it was his or mine.
- But Poppy, when we took this job,
you promised we'd be like a family!
Nothing like the last time!
- We just have one question for you. Why would you lie?
- I did it because I could.
Don't you know how free will works?
- [In Unison] No, what's that?
- I'm so glad you asked!
Why don't we just watch some clips?
(engine rumbling)
(upbeat rock music)
(music continues)
(audience cheering)
(glass clinking)
What, I thought you'd want all this stuff.
- Thank you.
- So, why is everything so crazy lately?
Is mercury in retrograde or are you just happy to see me?
- Well, it sounds to me
like you may be curious about chaos theory.
- What's that?
- It's a branch of mathematics and physics
that studies the behavior of complex systems
and the rules that govern that behavior.
It's the science of the non-linear,
the chaotic, the unpredictable!
- Could you explain that to me in layman's terms?
- You may have heard of the butterfly effect.
- Don't assume anything about me.
- It's a concept in chaos theory
that illustrates how a small change in one part of a system
could have a far-reaching and unpredictable consequence.
A flap of a butterfly's wings in Brazil could, in theory-
- [Poppy] Hungry. Or maybe I'm gonna throw up.
- Like a tornado in Texas.
- Wait, I was barely paying attention.
Could you describe it to me in layman's terms again?
- Sure. It's the science of patterns and the unpredictable.
- Could you explain that to me like I'm three months?
- Goo goo gaga.
- Understood. So it's kind of like this.
(dominoes tapping)
(suspenseful music building)
(gun firing)
(breath escaping)
(body falling)
- Yes. Kind of like that.
(energized rock music)
- Welcome back to, Someone Sent Me This!
Someone sent me this.
(paper crinkling)
Relief.
Someone Sent Me This.
(markers scrawling)
(tranquil instrumental music)
Learning about free will
has taught me that I'm not the only one
who should be able to have free will.
Others should have it, too.
That's why I'm granting my friends in the plant community
the gift of free will.
To live their lives as they please.
Plants, you're free.
Be yourselves and live as you've always dreamed.
(leaves rustling)
(planter rattling)
I'm gonna give them a room.

Here with us now is theologist and philosopher,
Dr. Matthews. Thank you for joining us today!
- Well, thank you Poppy. It's a pleasure to be here today.
- Is it?
(gun cocking)
- Yes, it is!
- So what brings you here today, Dr. Matthews?
- Well, you asked me here today to talk about free will.
- Are you here of your own accord?
- I am!
- So no one's forcing you to be here.
- Correct.
- And you understand that anything you say
will be used against you in a court of law?
- Sure.
- Great!
(xylophone notes ascending)
- [Children] Yay!
(scattered clapping)
Could you tell us a little bit about your background
in religion and ethics and whatever else you studied
that I didn't bother to research before this interview?
- Well, yes. I have a doctorate in philosophy and I also-
- Wait, wait, wait. I have a better question.
Okay, you little free will freak.
Tell me what's stopping me
from pulling this trigger right now
(leather creaking)
- Because. I'm your daughter.
(earnest piano music)
And I've been searching for you my entire life.
I've searched for you far and wide.
Streamed every song on Apple Music.
Made a profile and WhosMyDad.org.
Went to every nu-metal indietronica concert
and ruled out Grimes because I could just tell.
We were cut from a different cloth.
- Are you flirting with me?
- And when I saw that Craigslist ad asking for a theologist,
I knew it was my destiny to answer that call.
Dad, I'm home.
- Welcome home, son.
(gun firing)
- Oh! Why would you do that?
- Look at your hand.
(music building)
- That is kind.
- [Poppy] Improbably Poppy!
(dissonant guitar music)
I'd like to offer an unqualified apology
for how this has all gone down tonight.
Free will has its perks, but it also has the power
to push things off the rails real fast.
Free will has certainly given me some cool times,
but I'm not sure how cool I'd be with everyone having it.
Honestly, just the thought of that
is making me super annoyed.
You've been a wonderful audience.
Thank you for using your free will to watch our show.
And one last thing, ladies and gentlemen, Poppy!
