running out for Lando Norris to make an impression on Max Verstappen who holds

a 57 point lead going into this race. It is closer in the Constructors

Championship McLaren Rebel Ferrari making it a three way fight all the way

level 2.2 kilometers higher than sea level. The atmosphere is rarefied and

these tyres are going to be suffering in track temperatures of nearly 38

degrees. The soft well we saw Lando Norris go from 17 to 5th going on the

soft tire to start with last season. The medium of the hard we should see being

used by the majority of the grid going into this race this afternoon. This is

the scene here in Mexico lost Diablo's play in the baseball stadium and going

Franco Conopinto is 16th Foulterly Bottas got out of Q1 for the first time in six

races. He's 15th. It's an all-ass to Martin Roenex, Lance Stroll and Fernando

Alonso in what is his 400th brought three weekends. Liam Lawson shares the

sixth row with his teammate Yuki Sonoda who's crashing Q2. We're going to

premature end to that part of qualifying. Nico Holkenberg into the top 10 for

Haas. Alex Albon starts ninth where he finished last year.

Here Gazzly starts eighth. Kevin Magnusser makes it two houses in the top 10

here for the first time ever on the grid. Lewis Hamilton starts sixth where he

started last year and finished second. George Russell fifth on the grid out

qualified Lewis for a 15th time. Charlotte Clare one last week from fourth in

Austin. Lando Norris starts third where the winners come three times in the last

four years and it's Max Nastappen and Carlos Sainz on the front row a six

career poll for Carlos Sainz. Never finished on the podium here what a

chance he has today Martin Grundell. Indeed we've had all the hype the breathless

wonderful atmosphere. We're high here than most European ski resorts and that

gives many challenges to the cars, the tyres and the drivers indeed but now we

get down to business. This is really what they're all looking for.

stages in this world championship as you said people running out of time to achieve

what they hope for what they dream for and others on the defensive and looking

over their shoulder a little bit and this is a man, Sergio Perez in front of his

do and Oscar Piaestri a little bit around off track lost a lap time yesterday

would comfortably been right up the front end of the grid so we have to

assume he should charge through the pack but they've all got to survive the

long run down the 800 metre run down to the first breaking point and the first

three calls indeed the first lap before they can settle down and think about the

next 70 laps and the tyres are up and the top 11 all on medium compound tyres

Lim Lawson going long on the hard compound along so Stroll at Aston

Mountain medium and Bottas Cola Pinto Perez on the hard compound as well

Guanyu also Joe Guanyu. Esteban Alcon in the pit lane Oscar Piaestri is not going

contrary to the the front runners he's the same he's gone on medium compound

tyres he'll be hoping to get to charge to pick up the pieces of the first few

corners and we're almost underway for the formation lap in what is the largest

Spanish-speaking city on planet earth where there is somewhere in the region

of 93 billion cars it seems it's unavoidable avoiding a traffic jam in

this part of the world but today Martin the key to anyone's race is to try and

avoid a traffic jam on this track get yourself some clean air and you can

make up some points and places yes yes yes there's Dan so keeping your brakes

cool keeping your power unit cool is a challenge especially when on this long

straight when they're at peak revs peak load and if they're following another

car closely wear hot air is tumbling from the back of that car and if you're behind

five or six cars you get a cumulative effect to an extent and that's why we'll

see them separating little bit sometimes not getting into the slipstream just to

keep their cars a little bit cooler otherwise you just have to open

everything up and it's just too draggy you might go home if you're going to run

your car so super conservative on the cooling and so it's very as as is

everything in Formula One in motor racing in general really it's a

balancing act of performance versus reliability and just the ship pace

they know they need to run out. Do you get the feeling we'll see a bit of a cat

mouse afternoon here where drivers will try and get as close as they can to the

one in front but then have to drop back because of that cooling and just

give themselves a couple laps and then go for it again. We have seen that

before it depends on the comfort level the teams have built in with the cooling

but you may well hear on the radios or from us about lift and coast and that

takes a lot of energy out of the power unit so if you normally break and let's

say the 100 meter board lift at 250 meters don't touch the brakes coast so

you're not using power you're not putting heat into the system then you

can break a little bit later because the drag has slowed the car down meanwhile

and if you get that right you know what you lose very little time that's something

we found out big time in sports car racing like at Le Mans if you get very

good at that you can as long as you've got somebody right on your tail you can

you can get very smooth at just taking a bit of energy out of the system. 400

Grand Prix weekends for that man there Fernando Alonso who made his debut in

Formula One all those years ago for Menardi in 2001 in Melbourne racing here

this weekend with Liam Lawson one place ahead of him Liam Lawson wasn't even

born with Fernando Alonso made his debut neither was Oscar Piaestri neither was

Franco Colopinto and I tell you what Alonso will relish some jewels against

any of those on the track here this afternoon we've already got the first

six cars slotting into place yes so 19 we start from the grid S Ben Alcott had

a new power unit and all the goodies that go with that so he's confined to the

pit lane and at least he won't well he shouldn't be caught up in all the

carb fiber confetti of the first three turns Sergio Perez just behind Oscar

Piaestri waiting their turn to slot into the grid Oscar Piaestri ending is 100%

run of Q3 appearances in 2024 and Sergio Perez out in Q1 here for the

first time ever they both need a good weekend for their respective team

Zach Brown hoping for the best from his drivers Ferrari Pol here with Carlos

Sites haven't won here since Alam Frost in 1990 hoping for another very

successful weekend to add to the one in Austin that brought them right back into

contention for the Constructors Championship we're ready to go in Mexico

City it's lights out and away we go it is 760 meters down towards turn one and

it's Max for stabbing the Carlos Sites not going well to Wilbur's Mr.

Stappran has got slightly ahead no no no it's coming to join the party as his

Charlotte Claire for Stappran has got the lead and there goes the RB of Yuki

Sonoda as Carlos Sites goes straight over on the grass and takes the leap and

will you have to give that place back for Stappan second no it's third one of the

RB's already out and it looked like Yuki Sonoda to me as Stappran is given

that place back by Carlos Sites Lando Norris and third then comes Charlotte

Claire going wide and backlink Wilton will Lewis Hamilton and George Russell

Hamilton got ahead of Russell Alex Albod also going slowly he may want to be

corner with Sinoda in that first where wasn't even the first corner was it

Sonoda says he's okay and that's really good to hear because he was spinning

around and the safety car has been deployed we've had nine races without

seeing burned by Lando we had some appearance from him in Austin last week

and like a London double deck of bus we see him for a second weekend running

and somewhere in there Hamilton has passed Russell in the two Mercedes but

yeah he's crashed at the first corner eventually but the incident happened

before they actually got there some contact there's sort of all the stuff

you worry about heading down there but the Stappan got a tremendous launch

Oh Alex Albod he got hit at the first corner last weekend severely damaged his

diffuser and I think he got collected by Yuki Sonoda and he's out of this race

too and his dreadful luck for the man starting from ninth place and hoping

for a points finish and we can have a look at what happened here Martin yeah

I'm just looking in the background to see where we'll look at that first yeah so

it was literally just contact in the middle of the pack

well Cameron had a bit of a shock I think Sonoda had got ahead of Albod hadn't he

and then they made contact to Sonoda trying to cut over to the right side yeah I

think it was pretty much four into three didn't go there

it's like Zebra on the track there and surprisingly it's made its way back

across the track though they need to clear that away because there's a high

chance of puncture there and great concern them are those shards of carbon

fiber of a confetti as I named it before the race started cutting a tire and you

don't want a kilometer straight 350 kilometers an hour 220 miles an hour

with correct cut tires so the stanpen who's won here the last three years and

five times in total leads from Carlos sights we mentioned Hamilton getting

ahead to Albod Russell Holkenberg making up places to wait at the expense of

Gazzley Lawson up in the 10th long stroll has made his way up into 11th from 14th

on the grid as a head of his teammate Fernando Alonso Sergio Perez fantastic

start for Perez up five places and maybe a little smile on his face for the

first time this weekend on the track and Oscar Piaestri no movement from him

down in 17th this could take a while to sort this out yeah to get both those

cars out of the way and clean the track up okay you've got to get all that carbon

fiber off the track at such a critical point and this takes a huge amount of

energy out of the power units out of the tires and really frees the car up while

they're on full tanks let's just get let's just see this start again so if a

stanpen got a tremendous the second phase of his start on the front of the grid

there so he's already taken the lead Norris decides to tuck in behind for

stanpen and rather than going around the outside and as they head down to the

first corner of a stanpen's got the inside line let's just face that and

basically sides had to go off the track because the stanpen ran up to the edge

of the track and we know that the stewards are more lenient with that

kind of thing on the first corner particularly so science giving the

place back now and living for another day so the front runners and I think I

think we saw probably why we're Hamilton got past yeah right this is not this

is not going to be pretty Alex Albaud with the yellow on the edge and cover

Sonoda getting a really good slipstream didn't quite get ahead three times they

touched they're gonna head on the braking and Alex Albaud clipped him I think

the Sonoda just slightly moved over yeah to be honest when I say it's

things like that it mazes me they don't happen more often so it really was it

just a squeeze it wasn't it it was the Alpin of Ghazli squeezed Albaud over he

kept nowhere to go and unfortunately for Yuki Sonoda I don't think he did

anything wrong there Sonoda but as I say I watched down wonder why it doesn't

happen more often actually at first I thought Sonoda might have moved over on

Alex Albaud I don't think he did actually Alex Albaud had to move over towards Yuki

Sonoda because that's where he got squeezed by the Alpin yeah the Alpin came

slightly left and

I can't just story again it's just that's you know we group them all up we start

them all together and that's what happened and this is I think Hamilton goes

around the right you know keep we're on that contact once again yeah and we've

got an errant tire there hopefully did not make it any further than the run-off

area whilst all this is happening Sergio Perez is being investigated for a

full start which might explain why Sergio Perez made up five places and he

could be in a bit of trouble there Lewis Hamilton ahead of George Russell as we

look back from Charlotte Claire's Ferrari Russell came back at Lewis

Hamilton and George Russell would have seen the spinning RB in his mirrors Martin

yeah I'd tell you what Russell was very lucky not to be taken out there so that

is where Hamilton got through and the wall and the debris fencing doing a great

job there but of course you got no ability really to slow the car down

when you're three wheels on your wagon the front one's wagging in the wagging

in the air as well isn't it and you are you're just gonna go until you hit

something hard well one stage he was in mid-air Yuki Sonoda so even put the

brakes on wouldn't have done any good there James Vows is the team boss at

Williams James on the pit wall for us at the moment that is just so unlucky

from what we've seen there James yeah I think I was listening in Martin had

it pretty much nailed I think Alex's squeeze both sides he's nowhere to go so

Yuki didn't really do much wrong it was just over yeah and I'm very disappointed

given the place that Alex had their points I think were a possibility Franco

Colopinto though is a man who likes to get some overtaking done and he's

already up at the 40 yeah exactly that we've still got two cars in the straits

did it all right yesterday with Franco but he's in a good position today

we're at the hard time so so Perez I think he's being investigated for a jump

start and then lost ahead but it's I think they are so stretchy today could pay off

thanks James Sergio Perez will get a penalty he was way beyond his pit box

he's running in front of you at the moment yeah understood well let's see

indeed so Sergio started too far forward yeah there was no relative

movement but it was actually a long way forward of the yellow line wasn't he

grid box where the lights went out so Sergio Perez under investigation his

teammate Max was tapping has only led 20 laps at the last six-year-old pre before

today is leading this race you keep Sonota Alex Albon around that by the way

the second time in Mexico City that Sonota's actually gone out at turn one on

the first lap we did it in 2021 as well as the third time in his career that he's

been out on the first lap of a Grand Prix for Alex Albon at disappointment

for him starting as we said in ninth place where he finished last year his

first DNF at Mexico City we're on lap five of 71 and that's the cleanup

operation they seem to have got most of the debris off the track yeah so why we

have we need a full safety car rather than a virtual safety car the virtual

safety car slows everybody down but they can still be spaced out around the track

whereas with the full safety car of course you pack them all up and it's

like a crocodile behind the safety car so there's then a massive tranche of the

circuit that's absolutely clear and even then when the cars when the safety car

comes past he can control the pack as he's doing and keeping them well out of

the way so this is better than having to red flag the race absolutely right all

these laps though behind Burn My Land on the safety car what does this do for

strategy Bernie Collins oh it's a second thing drink he's a spinning

well not to make a zig zag so I need to drink if I don't want to okay

yeah that's a property might need to zig zag to the water it ties up a little bit

yeah this is the first world problem isn't it?

and max the stapper because the sights was flying down that straight i mean it gives you the drs

will give you round about a 20 kilometer 22 kilometer for boost down that straight but

science has got to stay within one second of a stapper on this lap yep and uh it's only just

there isn't it no it's not now max is is heightening it down the road and getting himself out of drs

that's a very good effort in with the tyres as they are and he's done it yeah we didn't really

talk about the start too much uh the stewards have a little look at that lap one turn one incident

science going off the road they decided no further investigation and basically max position that car

absolutely very needed to and uh science had to bail out as you said but it wasn't so it wasn't

like Austin where they both went off the track at the first corner right end of lap seven starts

of lap eight max for stapper leads from color side to the gap it was an exactly one second as they

crossed the line Lando Norris seven tenths behind in the place Charmer Koehr is running in fourth let's

see back to see if there's a move here for Lando Alonso potentially a long strong low Sergio Perez

right behind these two he will have to serve a five second penalty when he comes into the pits

and piaestri on the medium compound tyres surprisingly as they enable the drs now uh still down in 17th

place i thought on those tyres he might find a bit of extra purchase and be able to stop wading

through a bit earlier but let's see what he can do as the race unfolds a very long way to go yeah

although you know what with that safety car we're we're already over 10% through the grand prix

on the safety car we'll make that marginal one stopper just a little bit easier you're right

Fernando Alonso uh giving it all to try and stay within touching distance of his teammates

Lance Stroll Sergio Perez hanging on to the back of this particular battle so he goes piae

gazli still in the top 10 hulkenburg and Magnuson though running seventh and eighth great starts

Magnuson holding that seventh place hulkenburg making up two places for a hash team that are

properly on a roll at the moment as sauteed in has last night and he was beaming grinning from

here to here as he had dinner with his team boss sides got the rear wing open this time he got

within the second look at the pace he's got he's going for it he's going for it down the inside car

sides on Max Verstappen runs a little bit wide Verstappen tries to fight this and now he switches

back to go around the outside does Verstappen signs has gotten covered off but a really good exit

from Verstappen though and a turn three and towards the next braking zone he's still got

drs as Carlos Sainz and that's kept him ahead yeah you get a double dose of drs one detection

point for two zones there and that to save the day for sight he's now got to try and get over

a second ahead so Verstappen feisty but nothing to do by that that was a great it was a lunch

but a beautifully controlled one they've shortened the drs zone on the main straight by 75 meters

this year made no difference to Carlos Sainz beautiful move goes a little bit deeper i think

than he would have wanted to but he kept the car absolutely where he needed to yes and what he

realized there was he was about to have a track limit in friction doesn't want one of those

early doors that's why he turned back out of turn two and that slowed him down a little bit

but Verstappen all over his gearbox heading into the pit straight once again yeah the Red Bull's

been very strong with Verstappen in that middle sector what can i do with the

entry-metry what is this for stupid both we did i think that's when Sainz realized i'm going to

pass him we saw the red lights flashing on the back of the red bull here comes Lando Norris this

time on Max Verstappen but Norris is just a little bit too far back did Verstappen use up too much

energy defending against Sainz and that left him vulnerable there yeah i think Sainz realized

the red lights were flashing on the back of the red bull he was harvesting battery power and i

think that's when he thought i'm going to have a go there goes Lando Norris this time trying

around the outside and Max Verstappen covers him off and for the second week running Lando Norris

has to go off the track now he's ahead of Max Verstappen what do McLaren do here safe option

give that place back but do they feel once again that Max Verstappen just fourth Lando off the road

either way Verstappen is throwing them both off the track again now this is really getting their

elbows out Sainz can be under pressure here in this battle for the lead it looked as if

Norris was trying to let him through and he drove him off the racetrack and Scholler

Claire is through in the second place as we were watching Verstappen and Norris getting all

argy-bargy here where Claire makes it a Ferrari one too i was ahead the whole way through the corner

this guy is dangerous i just have to avoid a crash it's the same as last time

yeah we're on it man i'll not feel a wall in a bit

well Lando Norris i think getting more aggressive this week but still feeling that how can he fight

against Max Verstappen when Verstappen just runs him off the road that's that's Norris's feeling

there Lewis Hamilton gaining on Lando Norris but his sign's out in the lead from the Claire Verstappen

Norris and Hamilton the top five yeah we need to see that again and look ridiculous to be honest

from what i saw we also saw Lewis Hamilton there having to immediately get out of the slip street

and he's doing it again to protect his temperatures on the Mercedes but as Norris and Verstappen squabble

he's brought the pack onto their tail right it's been noted by race control there goes Lando

he is ahead yeah but Verstappen breaks later yeah and then he's ahead i completely agree i think

well let's see with this this is the next bit i think particularly day was Lando trying to give

that place back uh no he wasn't at that stage no he wasn't and Max just slid up the inside and

took him off so there has to be a penalty there for Verstappen or hand the place back and what

is done is freed up the two Ferraris yeah both Verstappen and Norris have handed this on a silver

platter to Ferrari if i was Red Bull i'd be i'd be saying to Max give the place give the place to

Lando now yeah uh let's fight again you know it's like off the track i've pushed down yep

but i don't think that's what they're saying at Red Bull and certainly there doesn't seem to be

any inference on the track Verstappen's not slowing down here

Verstappen doesn't have drs on the Ferrari no because they just get put off ahead yeah tell

you what Kevin Magnuson is sticking to the back of George Russell in the early stages here too

Russell's under pressure Verstappen has also been noted for forcing another driver off the track

so you've got the turn 8 incident and you might then have that next incident both have been noted

i think Red Bull should give that place back otherwise they're probably going to get a 10 second penalty

there as Perez comes past Lance Stroll who's still ahead of Fernando Alonso but Perez is now cleared

both of the Aston Martin's and moved himself up into 11th place he has got a five second penalty

just to keep reminding you the stewards Martin are looking at that incident with Lando Norris

and Max what's happened yeah they're looking at two now aren't they sorry yes they're two have

been reported and we'll still do it now actively looking i can i can fully understand why Lando

Norris feels the way he does yeah in terms of playing devil's advocate trying to be fair did

Max Verstappen think that Lando Norris was giving that place back and is that why he tried to make

the move there i don't know but i i i i did what it was but i think i think Lando was just

positioned as i've ready to turn into the corner so the two Ferraris out in front

and Carlos scientists having all his own way i don't think here because the player is uh sticking to

him quite nicely and we're on board now with Oscar Piaestri who's moved up into 16th place

but hasn't really been making the progress you'd have expected at the start of this race

now valterry potats on the hard tires been passing these up to 15 and now Lando's already got two

track limit strikes for that double incident with Max Verstappen and they count one more

it began the morning that one to add to his move at all Carlos science ahead and then there's the

incident Verstappen as no that wasn't it that that was uh for me that's unquestionable uh a shelf

yeah he'll say like i stayed within track limits and i've been talking about the apex and mirror

position and what have you but um and this is where yeah and there's another one there now

of not keeping your car under control so 10 second penalty i thought he was going to get it

and there might be another one yet i thought he was going to get that uh uh which is why i

felt they should have given the place back so he gets a 10 second for that and are they looking

anything else at the moment and that i'm sorry Max that was outrageous he might claim that in the

first instance he did exactly what he has been doing so far and this tour of set is okay in the

second instance here that was pretty clear Lewis Hamilton on the inside George Russell we ride on

board with this the battle for fifth place Verstappen has a 10 second penalty we're on lap 14 of this

most Red Bull drivers have time penalties in the race so far here comes George Russell

Hamilton wants him to go around the outside and he's just a bit too far back to do that but under

braking Russell really closes in and this is two Mercedes but both very different spec Mercedes

Hamilton's got all the new upgrades Russell as a result of the two crashes he's had in practice here

and in qualifying in Austin running a spec that goes as far back to Miami

so Max for a boat uh he'd been given a 10 second penalty for forcing Lando off track that term four

so head down ten it's quite impressive there was a lot of winching a lot well but you can understand

that and you can understand why the stewards have given that 10 second penalty because they will

have felt that what Max was to happen did was dangerous but what about 10-7 i thought that was

more dangerous well it was much more dangerous that doesn't seem to be uh picked looked at by

uh by the stewards right trying to break the toe Lewis Hamilton in fifth place George Russell

coming at him here's the battle between the two Mercedes drivers once again he's got DRS

as George Russell Hamilton now forces him towards the outside and turn one Russell is clean through

and goes a little bit deeper but hangs on to that fifth place needs move by George Russell yeah the

Silverstone pack just overtook the Mexico arrow pack been uncomfortable but uh and uh

yes Lewis was defending that one very hard indeed in the move before the braking zone but all

all within the rules and still Kevin Magnussen right on the tail of the two Mercedes here as we

could look once more and i know they've shortened this DRS zone but it doesn't seem to have prohibited

overtaking here that bit late from Lewis yeah was a day late and a dollar short there from Lewis

but uh hey ho i don't suppose his team or his teammate are going to be on the radio talk about it but

there was a new ride over the limit in fact it was a bit late that's good

come on guys i'm just taking this on actually i think Carlos felt that Charles was aggressively

trying to close in on him and it just needed to settle down here and maintain the status quo

Ferrari on for a first one two back to back one two finish since Bahrain and Spain 2008

yesterday to that radio message it must have been all that drinks bottle that Charles was having to

consume well he's dropped back a bit now maybe to save his tires a little bit and get some

cooling air through the the louvers on the side of that Ferrari Fernando Alonso pits

lap 16 of this race i think that's a a bid by Aston Martin to get Fernando Alonso into some

clean air as well or is that a bid i think that he's retiring i'm gonna say because Fernando Alonso

400th born preweek and he stops on his marks a lot better than that and he's been told to retire

the car that is such a shame that really is yeah he's got uh the glorious helmet rec uh recognizing

I was just going to say it along so just before that he seems to have got something stuck in a

radiator or a brake jump in front of the car. They're saying that it's getting too hot.

They have a blockage and that was a leap for their time.

That's his first official TNF of the season. Perez hangs on to 11th place.

Lance Stroll was there on the scene. Was Lance Stroll just biting his time a little bit to try

and make a move at turn 11. Sergio Perris made the move on the last lap. This time, Lance Stroll

goes off the track and comes back on Wheel to Wheel with the Red Bull and Sergio Perris survives

to another day. If he felt that Liam Lawson was getting his elbows out a bit too much,

did he then say, okay, I'll do the same thing to Lance Stroll. Meanwhile, while this has been

happening and this is big news for this race and in the driver's championship, Max Verstappen,

another 10 second penalty for leaving the track and gaining an advantage.

Yeah, well that was the big one, wasn't it? That was the second incident. The one that for me,

the Lawson Perez incident has been noted as well. But I had a feeling it got something

else coming his way because they penalise it for the first one, which was marginal.

And some, you know, rude and cheeky. But the second one was just plain dangerous and so now he's

carrying a 20. So that's just about a full pit stop, isn't it? Of a penalty.

What it does, if he was to serve it right here, right now, it would take him out of the points

and just ahead of his team mate, so it's 10th place, sorry, just ahead of his team mate, Sergio

Perris, who has been noted with that Lance Stroll incident for forcing another driver

off the track. Piaestri, we saw get past Bottas about three laps ago, he's got Colin Pinto just

ahead of him. One thing I do know, Martin Verstappen is going to be furious to get two penalties there.

We'll have a look at the Sergio Perris incident first, down the inside. He wasn't ahead, there

wasn't rude. Where do you call the apex there? I mean, Lawson went to cover and I think what

Perris did was completely reasonable to be honest, that's why he lost ground, he had a massive slide

then, didn't he? So who was ahead at the apex? Is he serious? Well, don't clear what we've

been doing. Look at that, that damage has come on the curb there from the floor and maybe the

diffuser of the red bottom, look at that, we can see the damage here on the side pods.

Yeah, that'll affect the airflow and it looks like he's had a good old nibble out of the

underfloor as well. And then what about this one? Underbreaking Lance Stroll is ahead,

Perris comes back at him and there's no route. Doesn't leave him a fair and reasonable width, so

I've got a feeling Red Bull might take another five second for that penalty, Perris in particular.

Oh Oscar, Piaestri is forced, almost off the track and into the grass by Franco Colopinto.

The two youngsters giving it large here for 12th place and Piaestri has got ahead

of the Argentine who's coming back at him and they both got to Harris here as they made their way

down towards the next turn. Sergio Perris is into the pit, Piaestri is ahead of Colopinto.

So it's quite early for a pit stop with that safety car. Has Perris got a problem?

Or are they trying a different strategy, but I wonder if that hole in the side pod?

Yeah, he's in and out. He's gone straight out again. It's an odd time to stop, isn't it?

between those two down the main straight there having a good old ding-dong. Now Lando Norris

gaining a bit here on Max Verstappen but still not within the DRS range off at Bernie Tia.

Yeah, so it's just going to come in a little bit on the Paris pit stop there,

M. Crofti. So they did that pit stop. I think the main reason possibly to realign the front

wing for any loss in the arrow that they had. The second thing is if there was another penalty

come and they've done that pit stop with just the five seconds rather than an even slower stop

than would be the quies. But because they started on the hard tire they've been forced on them

a meet-in tire. Now with as many laps as we've left in this race to go is that possible to go

all the way to the end? Not sure. And that's why I think that many of the others within below that

top ten mark haven't covered Paris because they think it's too early to get them into the end.

There goes Oscar-Piaestri ahead of Cola Pinto and now ahead of Land Stroll and up into 11th place

making moves saving and nursing his tires at the early stages. Piaestri now on the fringes of

the top ten although he's got a fair way to go to get on par with Liam Lawson. Yeah his race is

becoming just coming alive now isn't it Oscar-Piaestri? We know he's got tremendous pace there. Norris

will know that Verstappen has got a 22nd penalty although he's now within DRS rate heading down

the main straight and we join him. Verstappen looks a long long way ahead from there though,

doesn't he? Yeah but don't forget as you see the harnessing going on at the end of the straight

Lando Norris will have another blast of DRS on what is a shorter run down towards turn four

so let's see what Lando Norris can do this time around at the corner where they make contact

and where they got into a whole heap of dudar about ten laps to go. Yeah none that needs to treat

that red bull like the hind legs of a donkey it would be my advice right now.

Oh did this Lando just sit way smarter for Max to take his pit stop serve his penalty.

My tires are not holding on guys, you're a part. Or does he try and go for the overtake?

Because Verstappen probably holding him up a little bit here and the Ferrari is asking

to bring off into the distance. Yeah it needs to make it absolutely not a 50-50 move though

I would advise. Max is obviously hurting me so I think red bull I think I said it so I

read bull should have told him to on that to 78 luck which it was nothing less than.

They should have said hand that back now and then they would have saved themselves a 10 second penalty.

Carl O'Signs leads by five seconds from Charles Leclerc Max Verstappen five seconds further back

Lando Norris in DRS range and gaining on the red bull and gaining on the red bull and here he

comes to outer walls turn one had a bit of a look for it against it because maybe it wasn't exactly

50-50 and safety was the word of the day no further action the stewards Lance Stroll and Sergio Perez

falling fourth off the track. Yeah I think the stewards have been a little bit kind with Lawson

to be honest in that incident with Perez and a little bit kind or quite kind to Perez in the

incident with Stroll they've let those two go. Ferrari then with this one two at the moment

red bull in third McLaren in fourth and if the positions stay as they are which would be

amazing because we're only on lap 26 out of 71 Ferrari would be 16 points behind McLaren at

the Constructors Championship red bull would drop to third place Max Verstappen will be leading

the drivers championship potentially winning the drivers championship with the third place

Constructor he's coming in now that hasn't happened for a long long time Nelson Pico would grab him

in 1983 so Norris now gets freed and chase after the Ferraris Max will come out fresh tires won't

see the undercars not especially powerful he's got to get the hard compound tires up to speed

Caroon's down there I am I am Martin it feels like an eternity everyone just standing around

watching the car this is so unusual really isn't it and 20 seconds in a race where these cars are

already suddenly the temperature I can see the fan above the step and say they're trying to get

air into the air box to try and keep the engine cool apparently Perez was already

importing with high temperatures before his stop so this was double bad news for red bull he's

gone on the hard tire and is heading back out of the track yeah and that's why McLaren don't have

to respond too quickly obviously with the penalty but that's like being on the naughty step at the

front of the class isn't it for a very very long time and he comes out behind Esteban Ocon down in

15th place Esteban Ocon and he then looked there at Joe Guan Yu Lance Stroll has pitted as well

two and a half seconds stop to add to Verstappen's woes what often happens with these pin stops Martin

with the penalty in serving is the pit stops a bit longer than you'd normally expect so he was a

second and a half stationary longer than Esteban then Lance Stroll was for instance yeah absolutely

it's quite slow out there some of these corners are like 50 miles an hour but then the snake that

follows is quite a challenge in a Formula One car obviously they're carrying nothing like the

speed they were in qualifying they've got a lot more fuel on board and their tires are a little tired

as they're trying to edge them through into the Grand Prix so science nuclear

Norris Russell Hamilton make the top five and Magnusson's fallen away from the two Mercedes

now but maintain sixth with his teammate Holcombberg behind him in seven and for Lando Norris he's

now been freed up and he's been told by his McLaren team right use this clean air nice clean air that

you can punch a hole into and keep your car as cool as you possibly can use it to your advantage

and try and close that gap on Charles Leclerc we'll see how that goes as Esteban Ockov with the

DRS gap open on his rear wing has Joe Gran new and his sights down the inside goes Esteban Ockov

don't think Joe Gran new was necessarily fighting that one too hard it's good grip on the inside

there anybody who's lunged down the inside is not actually had a problem locking the front axle up

so it does seem quite grippy in the say the least now with all these pit stops Piaastu has moved up

into the points Colin Pinto is on the other fridges of the points Piaastu is starting to lap

around about a second of that quicker than Liam Lawson on those hard compound tyre and Charles

Leclerc has responded to the Lando Norris potential charge by setting a new fastest lap of the race

and the gap will be 42 points between the Stappen and Norris if it stays the way it is a doubt it's

going to but this is the sort of weekend Lando Norris leads he needs to put some big points

difference between himself and Max was tapping especially as it didn't quite go that way for him

in Austin Hamilton stop time 3.1 seconds from the fastest we've seen from the Mercedes pit crew

this season he'll come out behind Oscar Piaastri and hopefully in terms of the Mercedes strategy

ahead of Franco Colopinto there is the Williams heading down the main straight now Hamilton sluts

behind the Argentine in 10th place hard tyres for Lewis Hamilton as we look a little bit further

back there's Max for Stappen for Stappen down in 13th place and if for Stappen it's going to make

an impression on the top five or six in this race Martin is going to have to try and get past Lewis

Hamilton indeed and also of course we know the Red Bull is working its tyres harder than the

other front runners judging by the first team we'll see it they perform on the hard compound but

you know Max was needing those tyres wouldn't he's calling for those tyres and there's so now it's

a very much a sort of a three horse race out front isn't it two Ferraris and Norris and this is

turning into a nightmare event for Red Bull a lot of it though in fact all of it self-inflicted

certainly was with Sergio Perez and then Stappen earned his actions with Lando Norris earning in

that 20 second penalty if you're just joining his lap 30 of 71 here in Mexico City for Stappen

trying to get himself back and into the points as high as he possibly can after tumbling down

the order when he took his pit stop and served that penalty it's all gone rather smoothly for

Ferrari out in front science leads from Charles de Clair the Stappen did lead the early part of

this race sides his DRS to blast past the Stappen and to get that lead of the race back again Lando

Norris holding third place at the moment as here goes Max the Stappen honest about Ocon and that

a very nice easy pass that he would have been looking for 11th for him Holkenberg pits and he's

now back down to 14th but a lot of the top 10 haven't pitted in this race yet Karun to you

but the pit stops are being triggered crafting Pierre Gasly was the first of that little group

who came in it was a bit of a slow stop actually he was under pressure from Liam Lawson so they

brought him in but a slow stop means he's still three and a half seconds beyond Holkenberg

despite Nikon for staying out a little bit longer Lando Norris is being told to box as well

and just looking here not to cover off the Stappen necessarily but I think to get ahead

of Lewis Hamilton potentially as out he goes once more to certainly stay ahead of Lewis

Hamilton which he should do quite easily Lando Norris back out into this race George Russell has

gone through he hasn't pitted yet really the pit stop but 2.3 seconds from the McLaren crew

that's what they've done here he's ahead of Lawson he's ahead of Piastra you haven't pitted yet

here's Hamilton behind Collar Pinto he's also one between there Lando Norris in nurse his tires

and he found the perfect gap for him as there goes Hamilton past Collar Pinto on freshetize

and back up the set probably thing with Norris we don't let's not put him out

hitting Leclerc now to respond to that was clap let's not put Norris out too close when he's

got a warm up the hard tires on the outlet against but he's he's plenty there isn't he

yeah Hamilton and on his way a nice a nice stop done Lewis Hamilton been told by Pono

his engineer at the Stappen with that penalty means we are now racing him the clair pets from

second in this race that will be to cover up that will be the cover up cover off I should say

Lando Norris Caroon's down there and a decent stop there for Ferrari on to the hard time as

they expect everyone else to do as well so it's important to have that gap Muslim

conflict between the two Ferraris so science isn't on your risk here of an undercut and they can

comfortably carry on Leclerc strategy and George Russell also fits for Mercedes

thanks ever so much Caroon this Carla science first pole position since Singapore

2003 and he is comfortably holding this lead at the moment and that was a race he led from

start to finish as well wasn't it this one hasn't finished yet but science has been driving beautifully

out front he has and eventually oh his teammates shall declare second behind it there goes the

Stappen on Bottas the Stappen makes the move up into to ninth place yeah Max is going to get a decent

Hall of Poit test here isn't he yeah lost the head of piaestry here

and box Carlos box speed confirm the box well all right all right all right all right all right

all right all right all right all right all right all right all right all right all right all right

he wants one more lap but he's not getting one more lap he is actually coming into the pits

Bernie Collins why would he be wanting one more lap well I think the drivers always want the

Max one tire that they can't at the end of the race crafty but just to come with a little bit on

the loss and piaestry Russell and bunch that we've seen a few times on our screen that's a real

problem for Russell and one woman that have emerged behind piaestry and Lawson piaestry and Lawson

off the tires that they started the race on 31 laps old McLaren already playing a little bit

of the game with Lawson trying to tell piaestry to box his lap hoping that Lawson and box and free

free up to your era ahead of piaestry Lawson and Williams a bit wise to that having reacted so far

first time Liam Lawson's running the top six of a Grand Prix as well piaestry's under pressure here

from George Russell who's on much freshen tires his Russell has stopped in this race and here he comes

over the box piaestry's got DRS though that's helping him stay in the game a little bit longer here

you might have some DRS to try and attack back at George Russell and maybe Liam Lawson

are down this next straight much better exit though from George Russell out of turn three Kevin

Magnuson gets past Esteban Alcon up into 12th and George Russell gets past Liam Lawson

and up into the top four more and that's going to frustrate piaestry a bit

while we don't hit surely we could have done one two more laps more

it did feel that way for pretty much all of the bibnet out front

you know we're not at half distance yet and also you've got less you know you really want to hang

out there as long as you can in case you get lucky with a safety car

that's very true it could absolutely transform your game at this stage of the race

and Bob I think

hey take a bit of pull me out of the

if I was piaestry I'd want to get pulled out of this to be fair because this is not helping his race at all

because he's stuck right in the middle and everything starts to overheat but he's got another

lack of it Lewis Hamilton's going to be coming at it down the straight

out of front Charles McLaren is about eight and a half seconds behind Carlos

Science here comes Lewis Hamilton has got the fastest lap of the race here

I tell you what he fancied game past piaestry to the McLaren had TRS and that couldn't happen

Liam Lawson kind of a caulk in the bottle a little bit piaestry sliding around as he tries to get

on the power he's under pressure once again Lawson's turned a brilliant job here

as down the inside goes piaestry the only way to get out of any threat from Lewis Hamilton

is for piaestry to make the move and it looks like he's done just that and out of the next right

hander Lewis Hamilton dies down the inside at turn six Liam Lawson loses two places in two corners

yeah piaestry was a little bit too gentle when Russell came through gave him a plenty of space

he was not going to make the same mistake twice with another Mercedes that being Lewis Hamilton

this time and he managed to survive or retain one place and then take it another an extra one

into the next series of corners so that was important for piaestry and this is a double move from him

but it wasn't in the braking zone you can see him moving over there once

and there I think to get out with the rear wing and to get his downforce back otherwise it could

have been a could have been a problem stuck behind it Lawson yeah it was pretty punchy there for

piaestry but I don't think it was too late oh piaestry is going to defend again here comes Lewis Hamilton

the battle for fifth place you'll be a little bit more straightforward on this occasion for

Hamilton it is into the first corner we go and Hamilton is up into fifth the first corner

where we lost Yuki Sonoda and Alex Albon on lap one three retirees in total Fernando Alonso in his

400th brawn three weekend retiring to break issue related to cooling so he's piaestry actually racing

now it is effectively Lawson hasn't actually hasn't pitted nor is Lawson

Cola Pinto that's where he's racing isn't it so

he's sort of racing for sixth or seventh place isn't he piaestry?

Yes.

At this moment I wonder if they'll use piaestry keep him out there for that much longer and

try and hold up Max was dapper when he comes through because there's only a couple of cars in between

the stapper and Lawson at the moment that's Cola Pinto there and Lawson itself.

They need to do that really they just leave back some points from the clarinet and piaest has been

is very steady at the back I suspect his car is damaged we saw a lot of damage on the floor map

but since those incidents piaest is paced and he's backed down in 16 out of 17 runners.

Yeah he's got that damage to the side pod as well it's costing him all sorts of pace

it really is it comes Max for stapper on Franco Cola Pinto a lot of pace for the

Red Bull against the Williams and behind these two

about three botas going overtaken by Kevin Magnacile were both on the hard tire but botas

has won those hard tires from the very start of this race piaestry Lawson Cola Pinto and

botas and Joe Granue and Estebanor from drivers who haven't pitied yet 30 to you.

Yes coffee so it's just going to come in a little bit on Russell anyone that's watching

versus Hamilton obviously Russell was a bit quicker in that first thing but now Hamilton

looks quicker Hamilton with older tires had to come through the same town with Russell as well

which we'd seen Russell has been told there's asymmetry across his front wing so that might mean

that potentially in the pit stop one side got adjusted correctly and the other side did not

so that potentially affected the balance of his car and how much Russell is fit to lean on that

recidies in that second series and his teammate Lewis Hamilton coming back at him and now 3.3

seconds behind. Cola science seems to have this covered quite nicely Martin Charles de Clerc

could be under threat I think from Lando Norris towards the end of this race.

Both LeCairne Norris are catching signs if you remember science was 12.1 ahead just

going pitted 7.8 as you can see on your screen so they're both coming at him in a little bit

then the Mercedes are not just far not quite fast enough and that looks like a broken front wing

to me that's why he's got asymmetry and the front wing flap is quite badly broken that will be

generating some understeer and hurting the airflow generally under and round the car.

Is that the sort of thing the FIA and the race director would look at and say you need to change

that if it's broken I don't want it flapping around too much. They would talk to Mercedes who will

I'm sure assure them that the integrity of that wing and that design is not a proton.

Cola science and it comfortably had a comfortable out in front had a big misfire out of turn 3

10th of a second down on Charles LeCairne on that last lap which were a little bit quicker than Lando

Norris the Claudio one lapping in the 120s and Max Verstappen just saying on the team radio

a few moments ago that his tyres aren't working and we have seen the Red Bull struggle on the

hard compound tyre in previous races Martin. He did do the fastest lap for one. Hamilton's got

that at the moment but we do I do know that on the radio LeCairne all the way through the first

in was being told to lift and coast they must be running very hot with the Ferrari even in free ear.

Seventh place for Max Verstappen gets past Franco Cola Pinto. Max has also been told have a little

look at lift and coast and this can be anywhere up to about 200 meters before the corner certainly

into two one in turn one where you lift and coast and you just keep things nice and cool and at this

stage of the race are these cars taking a fair bit of punishment we're only just past half distance

here's Nico Hulkenberg trying to get himself up into 11th place and doing a very nice job of that

as he manages to get past Valtteri Bottas and Salba strategy today hold on for a safety car as

long as we can yeah they there is grip on the inside but down the main straight on the inside

is very very dusty still isn't it so science then has picked the pace up a little bit still

slightly slower than the flip on the previous lap and they dropped Norris a little bit but

I don't know if Norris has got just got I don't have a cara got the pace to really do anything

about the two for our is frankly yeah but the moment doesn't seem to be the case current

channel down to the pits oh two sets bro okay copy that record we are checking

okay to uh can it come in uh yeah but it'll be the power steering system there's obviously

intermittent and you're super sensitive to the load coming through the steering wheel

they're actually reasonably light up the steering in these cars

the energy going on inside isn't it uh but the cockpit but they're not

unduty heavy on the steering but you soon know to especially if it's variable through a fast corner

back to some right on the back of Colopince with these steering issues current down to you

thanks Rob here I've just been down to Mercedes to look at that front or ask about the front wing

they say structurally they have no concerns and they think it should be okay they're

monitoring the pace and so far Russell hasn't really dropped off so they think it should be

okay to carry on thanks ever so much piazztres coming into the pits so McLaren not trying to

use him to hold up Max Verstapp in uh in any way shape or form uh yeah call a pinto he just mind

a car moving around I've noticed that last weekend as well he's really quite comfortable

with a car moving as piazztres pits um I don't know he doesn't seem to damage his tires too much

and Lawson pits as well so piazztres and Lawson uh into the pits they come leaving Colopince

owing in the two Salbers nest about Ocon as the only ones that haven't visited the pit lane yet

Kevin Magnusserner's got Colopince in his sights down the inside he goes and he takes uh seventh place

great pit stop by the McLaren crew two seconds uh for Oscar Piazztres who comes out behind

Esteban Ocon in 13 and given that Ocon and Bottas and Colopince um stop yet points on

definitely here for Oscar Piazztres Lance Stroll gets past Sergio Perez who really does seem to

be struggling a lot out there and now has Liam Lawson right behind him and we know what happened

with those two got together last time round yeah so what I think we're looking at now is

potentially a sixth of Esteban and seventh for the end for Piazztres so it'll be a decent recovery

but who knows what else might happen between now and then. Lando Norris you feel for his

championship chances needs at least one more place yeah if if the McLaren have got any more

pace I think they need to cruise up if they can and start putting we keep hearing from Ferrari

lift it goes lift it goes McLaren if they've got anything need to go and put some pressure on them

because they're not at the moment. Does it need Bernie Collins or does it seem to be getting a

bit cloudier out there as well? It's definitely getting cloudier Ocrafte and I've just been here

in some radio comms saying. Too sex Bernie. No it's getting really dark. Nothing going to hit the

track at the moment. He's listening to you as well Ocrafte. Well I'd be worried if I was doing 220

miles an hour on dry tyres down the street. Well and in order to preempt some of that discussion

with their drivers some drivers are being told that there is rain in the distance and just

how to look in the red or it's about 30k away at the minute doesn't look likely to directly

impact the race but drivers will be starting to notice are closing in and will be starting to

worry about these tyres because these hearts if they've done you know 40 laps at the end of the race

if there's any dampness it will be a real struggle to keep that car on track. Yeah so watch out

and we'll keep an eye on the weather radar here Sergio Perez and Liam Lawson 16th and 17th

currently at the moment. Lawson has just pitted which is why he's right down there and Oscar

Piastri is absolutely flying on his new set of hard compound tyres. The question a lot of people

will be asking Martin is there too much of a gap between Piastri and Verstappen currently 20 seconds

for Piastri to chase Verstappen down and maybe try and get it by the end of the race. If Verstappen's

hurting his tyres may possibly 20 I mean Verstappen's 8-9-10s off the leaders at the moment in fact

a full second on the clear and Norris so it's not out of the question that's the target now

for the young Aussie as he's got to make his way back through the back now this is the outpane first

up happy days DRS and fresh tyres for Oscar and he starts marching through it's a 20.3 fastest driver

on the track last time around actually by a reasonable margin for Oscar Piastri so that's his target isn't it?

Now and that would please his team bosses wouldn't it have he could cruise up behind Verstappen

Verstappen he's 8 seconds behind Hamilton

I've got very small range up underbiser and this is where you really want a clear visor and I'll

guarantee none of them have got clear visors on they'll all have heavily tinted ones from a very

sunny start I always want the reply back though check for sweat George check for sweat it's just

just to make sure that it is a small raindrop yeah it's clouding over but I've seen it cloudier

Still holding out for a safety car. A Ferrari thinking it's just as it is we don't want to use

those wet tyres at all. Piastri with two track limit warnings very recently within eight minutes

so you need to keep an eye on that and the city doesn't look too rainy out there does it it's a

bit smoggy. So here's that. Firebrruch City is Mexico City it's a great place to come to especially

if you like getting stuck in a traffic jam. We haven't heard any more about his

this fire in turn three so science just done a personal best is not too long nicely isn't he?

He certainly is. He fell aside to his back on the podium again in Austin his best results

that second place since his win in Australia. Got two second places in Austin because he

finished runner up in the sprint as well had a seven race run without the podium ended right there.

Never finished on the podium here in Mexico. Never been on pole line. The way this is looking

it's that run is going to come to an end in round about 35 laps time. Norris 10.9 off the lead now

still just nibbling away about but nothing more. You just said as you said that Marty just sat

in the fastest lap of the race. Glad no Norris which I think is important.

And when Sergio Perez on certain new mediums can take that off him or not. I don't know because he's

got that side pod damage and that floor damage as well which is severely compromising at his pace

in this race. Yeah it's an extra world championship point for Norris. Wasn't it taking away? I don't

understand that. I just do not understand well anybody. The eight broke don't fix it. I think we've got

other things we need to fix before taking away fast as that which often gives us something to

talk about at the end of a grand prix doesn't it? Yeah I'd I'd suppose to a few people about it.

Oh it's just a gimmick. It did pretty work. Actually I think it did. I'd rather change my mind on it

because I wasn't quite sure when it first came in but it has given us you know last lap lando

moments as he takes the fastest lap. I love to cut a mouse of it at the end of a grand prix and

it's at one point for goodness sake. What we're talking about?

I had no problems with it that solved but we should miss that. Another fastest lap now for Norris

as we see Perez moving out of 17th place into 16th against Joe Guanyu turning.

Yeah I was just going to say there's more and more discussion about Rian and Matthew

Francis is fully updated to say a chance of shower increasing in effect which is nice and

so lots of discussion still happening on that but I wanted to come in let's ignore the rain for a

minute let's assume it continues to be a dry breeze for I think we've got roughly 40 minutes left.

Norris actually if there's a safety car now is in a fairly strong position he is a 20 second

gap back to Russell so a free pit stop under a safety car and he's a new set of medium nicely

toasting away on the garbage to put on in that situation. Ferrari who are ahead of him would

have to second guess what he does and likely if one of the Ferrari boxes he'd stay out of

here in the position and then have to try and hold on to it but Norris a very strong position at

the minute could we even see what the Ferrari knew ahead under Eddie's for the safety car situation.

Very good point Bernie and that's what McLaren will be thinking on the pit wall as well but

we've got 17 runners out there and that's all we have at the moment Perez up in

16th as we said and this then is Pia Street trying to get around the outside

of Connor Pitot. Well I think as you can see there yet to pit he's doing a pretty decent job he

yes he's lapping in the 122's at the moment. But Ocona 123 of the last lap Bottas are

the last lap they have pitied either. Gadsley has pit and even the 122 as well so

hands up Franco Colopinto other than his total bad balance on the group and he didn't want to

speak to you but it finally gets to pit he's doing a super job in that moment. Yeah it wasn't bad

balance at all for Colopinto. It was a new team. Yeah obviously it'll have to be Colopinto in

the moment. It's Williams because suddenly last suddenly last Alex Alba much earlier on

the very beginning of the race but oops right rear slow off.

Which is a bit of a shame for him being wild. Here comes Lance Stroll getting past Esteban Oconk

for 12th place. Carlos Science is gaining on this particular battle at the moment as Franco Colopinto

comes out with Charlotte Claire at Neckard Neck with him. So Georgia we are free to race here.

Just make sure we give each other room. And that's because Hamilton is now only 1.4 behind having

1.1 up on the screen now having gained a second last time around. And Liam Lawson is now ahead

of Esteban Oconk back up into to 13th place. Yeah you race leader at Carlos Science is almost on the

rear. A wig of Esteban Oconk. Charlotte Claire has got past Colopinto.

Lying in it that we are pushing large. Absolutely not in for a city.

So I call my team made off but I don't think Norris is far enough behind for any kind of action

like that. It's just four seconds of drift now Charlotte Claire. And they're going to catch

as Science is about to do. The three frontrunners are all going to catch a lot of traffic anytime

soon. Yeah that could have a fair even though the traffic is obliged to get out of the way.

It's just how quick they can get out of the way. And sometimes you can lose a couple of seconds

picking your way through that. On board as we are though with Lewis Hamilton who's running in

fifth base almost a DRS range of George Russell. Now Hamilton has been running these tyres for

20 laps. Russell has been running these tyres for 17 laps.

3.2 second stop for Esteban Oconk. Oconk comes back out to the track with Sergio Perez about to

overtake him at the end of the main straight while George Russell starts his way down the main straight

with Lewis Hamilton right behind him and with DRS as well. Now this could get

a tasty battle here. Is it often does when Lewis and George are running neck and neck?

Yeah if you remember last time around Lewis was particularly aggressive in his defence. So

I'd be interested to see what does happen because he has been relentlessly closing in.

Once again because of the two pick shut George Russell's had in the last two weekends he's on a

Silverstone spec aerodynamic setup and we know he's got the Wobbly front wing to go with it.

Yeah. And Lewis Hamilton on the Mexico spec as it were. The front wing looks like it's very much

intact doesn't it? But not generating the downforce it should be for George Russell.

Some of them will be making the complaint that it's flexing too much. I'm sure we get much leeway

from the FIA on that one. Bauchu Bottas finally picked which means everyone now has visited

the pit lane and 51 laps on the hard tyres for Bauchu Bottas. They've got Kimmy Antonelli

and the base is Lewis Hamilton next year 21.5 years younger.

So let's have a look at this and Hamilton in the slipstream with the DRS as well

and a car hitting the ground under maximum load.

George is obviously using his battery very defensively there to be able to defend against the same car

with his rear wing open but Hamilton again now gets a double dose of that. Will he have a look

up the inside into turn four? He's not close enough. Twice a winner here in Mexico City.

Lewis Hamilton and runner-ups at Max Verstappen in the last two or three years. Verstappen

around about 12 seconds further back down the road for this Mercedes battle running his own race

after that 22nd penalty. Two lots of 10 second penalty for Max Verstappen and I understand that

there will be a meeting between the drivers and the stewards of the Catar Grum Prix to

thrash out the driving standards guidelines. I wonder if I left away until then but Colopinto's

just done the fastest but that takes the point away from Norris at the moment. Good effort from

him. He nearly had fastest that last weekend as well didn't he? Yeah he did. Colopinto took

the very dying moments with O'conne. He didn't lock up there from Lewis going into the penultimate

corner but he's got some work to do you know because the two hassas in front of him have got

reasonable pace and he's got a 10.9 seconds to get past Magnussen. Yes he has he's got 10.9 to get

get up to that P7 against and they're flying along quite nicely Magnussen and Hulkenberg.

It'd been wild. Piaestri's teammate Lando Norris is now under four seconds behind

Charles Leclerc. Just as I say picking your way through the back markers sometimes you can lose

a little bit of time but to be honest I don't think that is the issue that Leclerc has had because

he's been ahead of Colopint so ever since the Argentine came out of the pits. Have Colopinto

keeps doing that like that he'll catch Leclerc third place man second place man Leclerc which

will be interesting. He's a boy if he's got fresher tires he's got more pace he's allowed to unlap himself

on that one. He might just drag Lando Norris a little bit and Norris can use some DRS too.

All of some butts and babies that's look at this one Lewis Hamilton still behind George Russell

still the dark clouds over heads of this circuit that's out of the forest soul. Can't lead to the

Saints. Great little battle but they're half a minute off the lead so it's not been a stellar

for Mark has it and they had a lot of damage again didn't they with that George Russell crash

in free practice. So is the TRS powerful enough for Lewis Hamilton on this occasion.

It just seems a little bit closer but not close enough once again to try and get past George Russell.

Battle for eighth you were mentioning this Holkerberg at Piastra he's going to be right on the back

of the hass in a couple of laps in Sospeh Piastra given the place he's currently got in Hamilton

in a position to strike here. Now he's not. Piastra's picked up his pace nicely personally best as well

so that's the kind of pace he needs if he's going to sail past and have any thought of getting

near the staff but he's got two hats to pass first. Five seconds the difference between

science and the player and science not overly happy with the pace that the Ferraris are having

to drive at. Well which is keeping them a nice buffer away currently however.

It's that state of the race now where all the drivers will be thinking about their tires they're

rear tires specifically and hoping Martin that it's got the grip they need to get into the

check and flag. Yeah because they all pitted relatively early didn't they and it'll be I think

brake temperature with the thing they're most concerned about in a bird of course as you start

losing the fuel it helps the brakes and using the fuel I should say.

Down the main straight we go again. For a dare say this time Lewis Hamilton is a little bit closer

to George Russell is it close enough you can see the marbles off the racing line Hamilton

pulls over to the right hand side off that racing line just to give his teammate George Russell a

sharp silver arrow full of that mirror to catch his attention a little bit more which I'm sure

it has been under braking Hamilton a couple of car let's too far back to make a move.

It's surprising isn't it with the DRS open Hamilton's Merc is not comfortably faster down there with

the slipstream as well but clearly Russell is charging is using his battery power in a very

defensive way and presumably Lewis now has to use his battery differently in an attacking way to

make the difference. Carlos science has cleared stroll and lost a couple of back markers the

clear is getting onto the tail end of those two and Norris behind Franco Colopinto his pace is

still a pretty good to be dragging Lando Norris a lot a bit here and now around about 3.7 seconds

between Charlotte where Lando Norris that is absolutely gettable between now and the end of this race

to Ferrari 1-2 currently and a successive Ferrari 1-2 but I don't think it's a fate of complete

and the D was an Italian phrase that would be not. Here comes Lewis Hamilton with a DRS

still not enough it needs to be I dare say a couple of tents close at the George Russell coming

out of the final corner. Yeah this is surprising me but as I say with DRS and the slipstream

that he's got an identical power unit George parks in the middle leaves the cars with on the outside

or fair enough. There is thinking of a I'll get a good exit and a run up the inside

but I mean by the Muslims running to each other but the stapens a dozen seconds behind and not

catching so it's not as if the team needs to say let Lewis through but with that front wing issue

of George Russell I'm sure they're thinking about it I'm sure they're thinking

is there a moment where and that the front wing flap left outside front wing flap is

virtually horizontal now the upper one for George Russell and I would imagine they'll be keeping

the close eye on that before they might just say swap positions. Meanwhile Piastry is right on

the tail now of Niko Holkenberg Le Claire is picking his way through some back markers and

that's slowing him down just to touch. Now that O'Norris is getting a little bit closer to

Charles Le Claire. Here comes Lewis Hamilton is he close enough to George Russell no yet again

he has to stay behind him. That arrow package of George's must be more efficient wasn't it?

Must be less draggy and the older arrow package because that doesn't make sense but anyway there they are.

Lewis Hamilton can't get past and the gap between Le Claire and Norris is now down to 2.7 seconds

and here comes Oskar Piastry. Now if we know that Le Claire has got some decent to DRS Holkenberg in

the house is ahead of him. Piastry is not going to wait for a second invitation to steam down the

inside and he does so. So Oskar Piastry then up into eighth place after starting this Mexico

city Grand Prix in 17th. And Magnussen 7.7 seconds up the road so Piastry, Piastry's got to be in the

very low 21s and ideally now in the 1 minute 20s every lap. Le Claire and Norris has relapsed

Franco Colopinto and that gap between Le Claire and Norris 2.2 seconds. Karun Tiu.

Norris was hoping to get past Colopinto a bit earlier, he was saying he was damaging his tires

so he was hoping to get past a couple of laps earlier but I think he'll be relieved he's done so now.

Colopinto obviously on those fresh times as you mentioned well his face was actually very solid.

Yeah well it's in the 1-20-1-3 on the last lap. Lando Norris at the 1-20-5 but before that it was

only about 3-10s of a second. Difference. Yeah so so Ayes has been told his brakes are now back

under control temperature wise so Norris because he saved so much fuel in there obviously the

said car. I think he's been given a punchier engine map as well as Lando Norris. He's got

he's got Lawson between him and Le Claire Lawson applied to get out of the way because he has been

lapped effectively. He'll be starting getting blue flags anytime now in fact he's already

just got his first one. He'll have to let Norris go quickly down this straight but Norris definitely

beginning to put as we were talking about earlier on put Le Claire under pressure. It's been a slow

burner but it is rising up to a pretty decent temperature here and as you can see lapping Le

have Lawson, Lando Norris has the benefit there of a little bit of DRS assistance and he's not going

to get it once he's going to get it twice which will bring the gap down even further. Yeah Lawson

really needs to get out of the way now. He'll be taking a penalty and he is. That has really

allowed Lando Norris to get on the tail of Schalner Claire. I think sadly for Norris he probably lost

about 4-10s having to follow Lawson out of turn 2-3. Yeah Lawson was looking all the way down the

pit straight waiting for him to go through and to yield but decided to take the first chicane.

As it now does his own fastest lap of the race with Pia Stu catching him.

So back on board with Lewis Hamilton we go. So Hamilton clearly has got more downforce on his car.

I think he's got a bigger rear wing on it and we know they're different era

packages anyway but it was clearly carrying more drag isn't it?

Lando Norris has now taken even more time out of Schalner Claire's advantage one and a half seconds

and he's got DRS behind Lance Stroll here as the Claire just caught Lance Stroll I think at the

wrong moment going through the stadium section down the main straight we go and Lance Stroll keeps

out of the way so that Lando Norris can lap him and now with all those back markers cleared

on lap 59 the gap is tantalizingly around that DRS range 1.2 seconds it's been dropping steadily

steadily steadily Lando Norris is in a position here to attack for second place in the race.

So Norris has got a bit more power to play with we know the Ferraris have been managing

brake temperatures with the lift and coast and this could be quite a squabble.

You need your best driving now let's go. Indeed.

Oh I'm sure he's capable of delivering some best driving as well and Carlos Science has just

lapsed Pierre-Gasley he's going through turn 14 currently as to turn 12 we go.

Norris could well be in the next DRS detection. Oh and Hamilton is now right on the tail of

George Russell and sliding and drifting his way through turn six and that's going to cost him

on the exit margin. Yeah you can see George charging his battery there between six and seven

and Lewis had an arm full of oversteer there didn't he earlier on in this lap he's really

having to hang on to that Mercedes in the turbulent air of his teammate and Norris still then not

quite within the DRS zone. And this is where Charles Leclerc just has to concentrate and

keep Landon Norris round about 1.2 seconds further back there's nerves and I'm sure

bags of them at the back of that Ferrari garage for Carlos Science who on lap 60 of this race

has absolutely dominated it in the way that his teammate dominated Austin just seven days ago.

Science under control has it under control. Charles Leclerc is going to be fending off Landon

Norris in these closing stages. Yeah Norris has been stratospherically fast hasn't he in this

second part of the Grand Prix on the hard compound tyres and still cannot get here under a second

Kenny for DRS. But through those S's Martin there's Lewis Hamilton now can he get past George Russell

he's going to have to go the long long way round he seems to have got a bit more grip than his

teammate they go. Wilton Wilton Mercedes through turn 14 we go. Yeah they've still 11 seconds clear

of a stapper so they don't need but it's sort of yeah so turn 14 turns six I thought it was to be

honest when Norris has been really really quick compared to the player has been through the S's

through this section here and that just gets it closer and closer to the Ferrari before we get

to the DRS detection zone he's not quite quite in the range yet but he will be I think on the next lap.

In the olden days at the end of last year they'd have done something about this Mercedes but

Landon is heading off to Ferrari George Russell is their team leader next year and they don't want

to annoy George by telling him to give the place up to Lewis. And it looks at the moment it might

be a very good time to go to Ferrari on the verge of these back to back one two

Hamilton realizing that dream that he's always had of racing in red one day in his career.

Norris and Leclerc going through turns seven eight nine and ten once again Norris absolutely

faster than the Ferrari but not quite as quick as he needs to be to get within one second

and Oscar Piaestri meanwhile it's just been given the the hurry up by the McLaren pit wall and

told to go and get Max that was the instruction and he's clearly lapping faster but yeah he's

got a clear Magneson but he's also got to be over a second to lap faster here we go DRS for Landon

Norris he's got that gap down to under a second and the World Championship point for fastest lap

as well he's flying along this is the sort of race that Landon Norris absolutely needed Max

for Stappen down in sixth place Norris in third with the fastest lap could well take second here

and it's all looking good for him at the moment but he's got a deliver and he's got to bring home

the goods and this is not going to be the easiest fight in the world up against Schaller Claire.

Now Leclerc really struggling to get the car turned in there in turn four and Landon will

have taken some energy from that as well and sight is only eight seconds up the road.

I was about to ask you is is the win on we'll see how quickly get bar Schaller Claire first

the science has not been overly happy with Ferrari's pace thinking it's maybe been a bit too quick

during the course of this race just under six tenths of a difference now between Leclerc and

Norris he's going to be that much closer as they come around the final corner.

DRS looks so confident they're really hassling the throttle in turn 12 there and he's got a great

chance down the pit straight this time around as we look to the Nigel Mansell corner.

Oh Schaller Claire goes off almost into the barriers Landon Norris goes past and up into second place

and Leclerc really struggling with those rear tyres for grip was easy prey when Norris came

across him. Leclerc knew he needed the best possible exit from that final turn and he just gave it

too much throttle his tyres are getting a little bit worn and that made it very easy that releases

Norris now to set about Carl O'Said's sights in the lead. What a save from Schaller Claire.

Yeah that was impressive very impressive indeed let's have a look at it again hugging that outside

line and what that could have been so so nasty hundred mile an hour incident for Schaller Claire

averted with a fantastic lightning reaction on the steering wheel. Yeah yeah that was

he was a tiny tiny bit wide but that's an early Halloween present there isn't it for

Landon Norris thank you very much you'll be saying he didn't think about lifting the throttle did he

Norris because the Ferrari could have gone anywhere at that point and there he is he can easily

ahead now on Leclerc but it is a lot of work to do to get anywhere near Carl O'Said but I think

as we were talking about early on he can start putting the Ferrari under pressure they've got a

chance. Bernie Collins that's head to you. Yeah now it's decision time for Ferrari when Leclerc they

have a full pit stop to Russell so should they stop getting another set of tyres up clean that fast

lap back but Norris has just taken off them and consolidated that position. Yeah it would make

sense for Leclerc wouldn't it now you're right Bernie it's almost a no brainer isn't it they're

not going to catch Norris so to come in and try and then they'll have fantastic tyres if there's a

late restart. When it's picked up says Landon Norris and if the wind's picking up that often

means there's a bit of rain coming too and his exploits helping him and the drivers championship

and helping McLaren as well to a 23 point lead at the end of this race over Ferrari who'll move

in a second place in that Constructors Championship and Red Bull dropping down to third where they've

been heading for quite some time now Max has tapped and scoring points in six Sergio Perez

damaged to the side pod at his floor down in 16. Max was in faster than PS3 on the previous lap as

well so that gap is stayed at 5.9 seconds what a tremendous ride Kevin Magnussen's had today.

Absolutely so coming good for Kevin Magnussen towards the end of his Formula One career Leclerc

basically echoing the thoughts of Bernie Collins there think about the fastest lap

he texted Charlotte Clare and he popped in there Bernie. Yeah I definitely have as half as number

crop he'll be texting with the stage of the race. Got him on speed dialed taught him everything he

knows. It's Hamilton still behind George Russell the team Mercedes having a great old scrap here

but frustrating for Hamilton sure for George Russell though he had another very satisfying

afternoon he the pit lane finish six in Austin from six on the grid from fifth on the grid he's

about to finish fourth here in Mexico this afternoon. Carlos science seems to still have it under

control that in front as George Russell moves to the inside to cover off the threat of Lewis Hamilton

which was coming and coming at him at a rate of 220 or so miles an hour Hamilton over the curve

gets the car straightened up gets the DRS benefit once again as we head now towards turn four which

ways are you going to go Russell wants him to go the long way around the outside if he can have

just got half a car then the head the inside line would have been there for Lewis Hamilton to try

and claim that fourth place but it's so frustrating for him as another lap goes by and another lap he

has to sit in fifth. Cracking the race that's not for the lead in some respects that kind of action

but so science 20.5 Norris 20.1 last time around with five laps to go. Norris will be will be pretty

close to the back of that Ferrari I think but not close enough unless something else happens.

Whatever happens in the championships Martin the fact that the field seems so close together

just giving us some brilliant racing between now and Abu Dhabi you won't want to put too much money

on who will occupy the podium places on any given Sunday. Yeah and next season is going to be an

all-time Formula One classic I have no doubt about that. Here we go again with Lewis Hamilton

down this main straight gaining on George Russell you can see how much extra speed he's got

Russell covers that inside line once again this time he can cover it but it will be to

know avail Lewis Hamilton had 20 or so kilometers an hour of extra pace and he takes that fourth place

been coming for 12 laps. Yeah good little fight Russell's car really hit the ground hard didn't it

as he went went offline to try to defend that would have slowed it down a little bit they're coming up

to lap Sergio Perez and this is Franco Colopinto and Liam Lawson going wheel to wheel off the track

goes Colopinto and oh and then there's damage to Lawson's front wing that looks a little bit

avoidable let's just see what it looked like from the cockpit Lawson's looking in his mirrors all

the way down that straight well the pitso just I think breaks that little bit later he rejoins

the track straight into the front wing and plate yeah he wasn't left enough space on the outside

Colopinto there but Lawson very sadly for him has to make a pit stop a little bit clumsy in there

and Colopinto you have to say he's got some bravery that has now come back

and that's just one of the room Liam Lawson's race

I honestly had no way to go

which is a fair point it's been noted by racing trial Colopinto left the track came straight back

on and into the path of the RB as you can see yeah that's just one of those clumsy racing

that bit we'll have to talk about and look again at leaving the track and what have you so

the third team is free for some reason where might sector 13 be

Carlos sides crosses the line the gap was about seven and a half seconds

six point eight seconds is the crosses the line on this particular occasion sector 13 is just on

the approach to the state in 1012 right we don't marshal sectors down yeah you don't need

to be slippery on the way into turn 12 to slippery enough at the best of time so yeah if

Norris keeps pumping in 19s he's gonna run out of time isn't he he's going to run out of time

it'd be great to have a good old fight at the front for the win wouldn't it absolutely

very colleagues to you yeah so just quickly wanted to win for after yet the half-champshire

position no double points finished for them very very strong even points have been finished as it is

the Austria's not closing at the rate you would expect very strong in their championship position

I was I was feeling he's been underrated Carlos I've been in support of his from the get go

I always feel he's never quite had the credibility he deserves

right there with the first and a third and an extra point for the bonus lap for

Charles Leclerc yeah Piaci ended up 1.2 behind Max and he needed another lap or two to get the

what do you think is the the teamwork how come had improved so much lately?

I know we are working super well as a team I think it's been quite a few races now that we are

coming back to the level we should be at and it's amazing to see obviously the

constructors is still our target and with weekends like this we are getting closer to it so I hope

we can continue in that direction and get that that constructors title which is very important

it was it was a very tough race you know the first few laps a lot of it was just trying to
