Captain Zhu.

Do you know He Xiaoguang?

I do.

He was my former teammate.

What was your relationship like?

He joined the fire department two years after me.

We were on the same team.

He was my best buddy.

Best, huh?

That's quite a compliment.

Do you know why

He Xiaoguang was at the Luobai Shopping Mall

the day of the incident?

I heard he worked there.

That's what I heard.

How long has it been since you two last contacted?

After he resigned,

we talked less.

Why did he resign?

I'm not sure.

Given how close you two are,

you don't know why he left?

Three years ago, there was a fire.

[Haizhou City Xinkai District Luobai Shopping Mall Major Fire Incident]

Over twenty people were trapped,

including Xiaoguang's younger brother, Xiaoliang.

At that time, he led the team, and I was his deputy.

We saved everyone,

except for his brother.

Xiaoguang probably can't get over that.

You might have

forgotten something important:

The fire happened on December 20th,

the same day as the collapse.

And interestingly,

among

the over 20 people

you rescued,

two of them were trapped

in that mall with He Xiaoguang.

This is the skin flakes we extracted

[Individual Identification Report]

from Wu Hanlei's fingernails.

They match

[Individual Identification Report]

the DNA of He Xiaoguang.

[Commissioning Unit: Haizhou City Public Security Bureau]

We also found matching scratch marks

on the back of He Xiaoguang's hand.

We now suspect that

He Xiaoguang

believes that

Luo Haoran and Wu Hanlei

caused his brother's death.

So he has sufficient reason

to seek revenge on those two.

[The Limbo]

[Episode 2: Murder]

[Second Day of Collapse Incident]

Fifty-three degrees fragrant liquor.

This liquor is strong.

ChungHwa?

[Yuan Mei, Luo Haoran's second wife]

After signing the divorce agreement, I went to the beach to unwind.

I just got back today

to collect some things.

Please, have a seat.

Okay, thank you.

Well,

after the incident,

did Luo Haoran contact you?

But I called him.

No one answered.

Do you think it's possible

that because the accident was so serious,

he got scared

and went into hiding?

No way.

He's not that kind of person.

Luobai Shopping Mall is his life's work;

it's his pride.

He wouldn't hide after something like this,

unless something happened to him too.

Based on what you know about Luobai,

what do you think was the main cause

of this accident?

It should be related to

the mall's renovations three years ago.

What was the name of the renovation company?

Sancheng Construction Group.

I can take you there.

How is it?

About how much longer?

At most half an hour.

Xiaoguang, Xiaoguang, if you hear me,

please respond.

Xiaoliang.

Why is there such a big difference

between these two blueprints?

Three load-bearing columns are missing.

They added an elevator here,

and central air conditioning on the top floor—

this foundation hasn't been reinforced.

This...

This project was overseen by Chief Engineer Wu.

What's his full name?

Wu Jianjun.

Wu Jianjun.

Where is he now?

Chief Engineer Wu, he...

He committed suicide.

This is Chief Engineer Wu's belongings.

[Sancheng Construction]

[Luobai Shopping Mall] [Sinkhole]

What's going on?

There's a hundred-meter sinkhole directly beneath

the Luobai Shopping Mall.

This is disastrous.

This is a serious problem!

Luobai is currently situated right above that sinkhole.

[Luobai Shopping Mall] [Sinkhole]

If the rock structure can't hold,

[Soil Layer] [Rock Layer] [Sinkhole]

the building will fall into the sinkhole.

Get this data to

the rescue command center immediately.

Hurry!

Director Gao,

there's an emergency.

[Luobai Shopping Mall] [Sinkhole]

[Soil Layer] [Rock Layer] [Sinkhole]

Sir!

Come in.

Commander.

What's the situation?

Here's the situation:

There's a hundred-meter sinkhole

beneath the Luobai Shopping Mall.

[Luobai Shopping Mall] [Sinkhole]

The building could slide into the abyss

[Soil Layer] [Rock Layer] [Sinkhole]

at any moment.

We need your rescue team

to stop all operations immediately

and pull out.

Commander,

give me just thirty more minutes.

Just thirty minutes.

We're about to clear the rescue passage.

This is an order!

Retreat,

and rework the plan.

Yes, sir.

Xiaoguang.

Xiaoguang.

Xiaoguang.

Xiaoguang.

We've just discovered

a sinkhole beneath the building.

We're reworking the rescue plan now.

You need to prepare yourself mentally.

If a collapse occurs,

the difficulty of rescue will definitely

be greater than the San Jose mine disaster.

It's me.

[Underground, Second Basement Level]

Mom!

Hurry, run!

Evacuate!

Evacuate!

Make way!

Quick, evacuate that area!

Hurry!

Tell those people over there to evacuate quickly!

Move to the side! Quickly!

Evacuate now!

Xiaomei!

Grab hold!

Captain!

Pull him up!

Got him! Come on!

Pull harder!

Help!

Is anyone there?

Help! Please!

Help me!

Save me!

Hurry, let's go!

Are you okay?

It's not safe here. Let's move!

Hurry! Here, here!

Get down!

Are you alright?

Are we going to die here?

No, we won't.

What the hell is going on?

Didn't they say we'd get out by dawn?

Yeah, where's the rescue team you mentioned?

Where are they?

Enough.

If it weren't for Xiaoguang,

we probably wouldn't be alive by now.

[Earthquake Rescue Module]

What's happening?

There's a large amount of magnetite in the rock,

causing severe signal interference.

The helicopter can't land at all.

Yang Bing!

Yang Bing!

Yang Bing!

Listen.

Is anyone there?

What's that sound?

Is there anyone outside?

Who's there?

Is anyone there?

Is there anyone out there?

Help! Save me!

Is anyone there?

Luo Haoran!

Luo Haoran!

Is anyone there?

I have an investigation report here.

Let me read it to you.

Elevator installer He Xiaoliang

lacked an installation qualification certificate,

which constitutes a violation of regulations.

The company he worked for, Lianrui Elevator,

was negligent in its hiring and review process

and should bear primary responsibility.

The investigation report is out,

but it seems

this matter isn't over.

A new rumor has been circulating online:

[Luobai Shopping Mall, a landmark building in Haizhou City, suffered a major fire accident]

[19:45, fire trucks arrived at the scene; the burning building was in a fierce blaze]

[Strengthen daily supervision and inspection of fire safety]

[Elevator installer He Xiaoliang had no installation qualifications; this was a violation of regulations]

It claims that He Xiaoliang was able to work

[The situation of the company]

[Haizhou 12.20 Major Fire Incident]

[The brother of the unqualified installer is a firefighter]

without certification because

your fire department was backing him up.

[Elevator installer He Xiaoliang had no installation qualifications; this was a violation of regulations]

[19:45, fire trucks arrived at the scene; the building was already in flames]

[Accident cause should be clear; those responsible should be punished]

He Xiaoguang is not a firefighting hero,

[with the procuratorial authority establishing a safety production case reporting mechanism]

[Establishing a regulatory enforcement agency for safety production with public security]

[Haizhou City Xinkai District Luobai Shopping Mall 12-20 Major Fire Accident.]

but rather a corrupt firefighter covering for arsonists.

Nonsense!

It's all them spreading rumors!

Who's spreading rumors?

Wu Hanlei and Luo Haoran.

They hired a lot of online trolls

and bought many marketing accounts

to smear Xiaoguang

and our fire department

with these fake news stories.

But I don't understand.

If the investigation results

clearly assigned responsibility,

why did they still want to smear

He Xiaoguang and the fire department?

Because they wanted to ruin Xiaoguang.

Why?

After Xiaoguang resigned,

he kept investigating something.

He found that the renovation

of the Luobai Building was entirely illegal.

Yes,

Xiaoliang was operating without a license,

but the real culprit was Luo Haoran!

If the illegal construction hadn't happened,

there wouldn't have been an elevator installed.

If there was no elevator, there wouldn't have been a fire.

Luo Haoran is worried that

Xiaoguang will expose his dirt,

so he used these rumors online

to tarnish Xiaoguang's name,

ruining his reputation.

This way,

no one would believe him anymore.

Push harder!

Move aside!

Get out of the way!

Luo Haoran!

Luo Haoran, is that you?

Ding Zi, Ding Zi, it's me!

Are you alright?

Thank you, thank you.

There's someone here!

[Luobai Shopping Mall, Underground Secret Room]

Hey, bro,

you look familiar.

Have we met

somewhere?

What's it like in there?

The secret room structure is relatively safe.

You all go in first;

I'll check for other exits.

Okay.

Be careful!

Give me the phone.

[Luobai Shopping Mall, Atrium]

Xiaoguang,

We've just discovered

a sinkhole beneath the building.

We're reworking the rescue plan now.

You need to prepare yourself mentally.

If a collapse occurs,

the difficulty of rescue will definitely

be greater than the San Jose mine disaster.

President Luo.

Luo Haoran!

What is this?

What does it mean?

What does it mean?

You're playing dumb, aren't you?

Zhou, tell everyone.

Come on.

We don't have to be afraid of him today. Go ahead.

President Luo.

I'm from the engineering department of Luobai.

Yesterday, during our inspection,

we found some issues.

I remember

three years ago,

Luobai underwent a renovation

without reinforcing the foundation.

What are you trying to say?

What's your position?

I'm Zhou Yi, the manager of the engineering department.

Then for such a big issue,

why didn't you report it to me?

I went yesterday.

I was waiting for you in the hallway.

Don't make excuses!

You need to take responsibility, you know that?

Luo Haoran,

is what he said true?

Let me clarify:

I am indeed the legal representative of Luobai,

but I only handle

its daily operations

and future business planning.

As for the structural load-bearing issues,

that's the responsibility of other shareholders.

However,

for such a big issue,

no one would dare take it lightly;

it must be the construction team's fault.

I'm going to hold them responsible when we get out of here.

You play the coward and thug so well.

President Luo.

Please think of a way out.

You're the boss here.

We're counting on you. We need to get out of here.

Alright.

Stop arguing.

Actually, Luo Haoran is, like us,

also a victim.

President Luo is the same as us.

We're all victims.

Yes, President Luo

will find a way to solve this problem.

You innocent coward, so innocent.

Commander.

The drone can't go down.

We must send people down.

It's too dangerous to go down now.

Your lives are precious too.

Let's think of other ways.

There are no other ways!

Commander.

We need to confirm

if the people below are still alive.

Don't be impulsive!

The city committee has already initiated

the highest-level rescue plan.

The provincial emergency department has sent

the best rescue experts

and technical advisors to support us.

Let's wait until they arrive.

Then we can make a more secure plan.

I understand, but if we wait

and people down there are gone

by the time experts arrive?

Sir, we are firefighters.

We must live up to the uniform we wear!

Alright.

No reckless actions.

Follow orders.

Evacuate immediately if you encounter any problems.

Yes, sir!

Let's go.

Meng Shan and Wen Long, prepare the life detection device.

What does this drawing mean?

It's the River of Forgetfulness.

Looks kind of scary.

It's one of the legendary paths

from the human world to the underworld,

guarded by the King of Ghosts.

What's wrong?

Were you hurt just now?

I'm fine.

I used to work on construction sites,

so I'm used to bumps and bruises.

You've worked on a construction site before?

With a low education level, it's hard to find a good job.

I came to the city to work right after finishing middle school:

carrying cement, moving bricks,

setting up scaffolding—done it all.

Thank you.

If it weren't for you,

I really wouldn't know what to do.

You...

Do you remember me?

You're the cashier

who often gives Zhengtai lollipops.

Do you know what

my happiest moment every day is?

It's when you

come to the supermarket with your child

after work.

I make a bet with myself:

If you check out with me that day,

I'll treat myself to

a bowl of instant noodles

with an extra sausage.

If not,

I'll go hungry all night.

Don't laugh at me.

I...

I know.

It's okay.

I'm just happy

to see you every day.

Really.

Please don't feel pressured.

Who?

Wu Jianjun!

President Luo.

President Luo, Wu Jianjun is outside.

President Luo.

Wu Jianjun is outside.

Hanlei.

It's alright.

-Wu Jianjun. -Calm down.

You don't need to be nervous.

Take your time. Tell us who Wu Jianjun is.

Go ahead.

Wu Jianjun committed suicide.

Wu Jianjun...

That name sounds familiar.

Is he the one who committed suicide at the mall before?

Yes.

Wu Jianjun was responsible for the Luobai renovation.

He committed suicide

recently.

Why did he commit suicide?

I think he colluded with the construction team

to cut corners for profit.

He knew the building would collapse

and couldn't handle the pressure,

so he took his life.

Luo Haoran.

Do you think we're children?

After such a big accident,

you're the mall's owner

and pushing the responsibility onto a dead man?

Have you lost your conscience?

Everyone.

I've checked.

The overall structure from the first

to the fifth floor is still intact.

It's dangerous down here now. We need to go up quickly.

You all go ahead;

I'll see if I can find another exit.

[Luobai Shopping Mall, Luo Haoran's Office]

Luobai Shopping Mall illegally removed load-bearing columns,

added elevators, built extra floors,

and installed oversized cooling equipment,

leading to structural deformation.

[No content available here; please try other filters]

There are serious safety hazards.

It might...

The caller used a voice changer.

Our technical team has restored his voice.

Doesn't it sound familiar?

This call was made

one hour before the Collapse Incident.

He Xiaoguang called from the mall.

We suspect

he was secretly investigating

the issues of Luobai Shopping Mall.

On the night of the collapse,

he followed Luo Haoran and Wu Hanlei.

Even if

this call was made by Xiaoguang,

he was just following them;

that doesn't prove he's a murderer!

Of course, we have other evidence.

[Individual Identification Report]

[Luobai Shopping Mall, Underground Parking Lot]

This was taken the day

before Wu Jianjun's suicide.

Stop.

Stop.

So, after investigation, we suspect

He Xiaoguang's tracking behavior

of Luo Haoran and Wu Hanlei

likely started

two months ago.

About the Luobai fire three years ago

Luo Haoran, Wu Hanlei, and Wu Jianjun

bear an inescapable responsibility.

But importantly, to Xiaoguang,

these three not only caused his brother's death

but also ruined his life.

So he might have been looking for

an opportunity to take revenge.

Just the day after Xiaoguang

confronted Wu Jianjun,

Wu Jianjun committed suicide in his car.

The autopsy report indicates

he had ingested a large amount of sleeping pills

and inhaled exhaust fumes,

dying from carbon monoxide poisoning.

Although it was ruled a suicide,

we have ample reason to suspect

his death is closely

linked to

He Xiaoguang.

Since Wu Jianjun has already taken his life,

the remaining targets for revenge

are Luo and the other Wu.

So it's clear why Xiaoguang

was present at the Luobai Building

that night of the collapse.

All this only proves that

Xiaoguang

investigated them,

but it still doesn't prove

he intended to kill.

This capsule

was found on Xiaoguang.

At their home,

we also discovered similar capsules.

This medication is called asimicin,

a pain reliever

for muscle strain,

acute gout, and other ailments.

Luo Haoran

suffers from acute gout,

so he always keeps these capsules handy

for when his condition flares up.

This is a prescription we found

at the hospital for Luo Haoran.

But strangely,

[Haizhou City Xinkai District Hospital Prescription]

Xiaoguang clearly doesn't have such a condition.

So we investigated his

Internet search history for the past six months

and found he had been looking up

artificial synthesis methods.

In other words,

he concocted poison

and replaced the powder inside the capsules.

So you should now understand

that his purpose in working at Luobai was

to get close to Luo Haoran,

forcing him to take the capsule

when he had an attack.

Of course,

he didn't get the chance

before the incident occurred.

However, at the same time,

Xiaoguang found a better

method of revenge.

Think about it:

in a chasm more than

a hundred meters deep,

there's nothing there,

but the one thing it doesn't lack

is accidents and danger.

In my view,

it's the perfect crime scene.

If a suspect

wants to commit a crime,

there's no need for them to act personally;

they just need to be good at disguising their intent.

At that moment, disaster is the best accomplice.

As long as they disguise themselves well enough,

they can evade consequences

without facing any repercussions.

So,

Xiaoguang may no longer be

the hero you think he is,

who only wants to save people.
