[growls]
[fizzles, zaps]
[snarls]
[thunder rumbles]
[epic theme playing]
[zaps, snarls]
-There you go, little guy. I'm not gonna hurt you.
Just want to make sure that cut is healing properly.
Ah, looks pretty good.
Could use a dab of antibacterial ointment, though.
Nurse Plow?
[grumbles]
-[screeching] -[grumbling]
[laughs] That's okay, girl. I got it.
-[grumbles] -Sometimes it's not easy having
a giant horn on the front of your head.
Here we go. Now, you just need a little more rest,
then it's back to the lush landscape of the Nature Realm.
[sighs]
-PHIL: D'Angelo? -Pop!
-[sighs] Here you are. I should've guessed.
-Check it out.
The dragon hospital is really coming along.
This is the new healing center
where my patients can rest and recharge.
-Uh-huh, that's nice, but--
-This is our double gurney
for my more robust dragons.
-D, listen, I really-- -And over here is where I keep
the cutting-edge homeopathic treatments
I've been developing from the Hidden Realms.
You think they should be alphabetized--
-D'Angelo! Do I have to remind you about Buzzsaw,
the hatchet-wielding lunatic
with the giant dragon who attacked
-the town a few weeks back? -Of course not. I just--
-As head of security,
it is my job to keep everyone around here safe,
and I need you as my First Lieutenant.
-First Lieutenant? But, Dad,
this hospital is really important.
-Not as important as securing the facility.
You're spending way too much time in here
playing dragon doctor.
Now, I need you out in the field
setting up sensors and patrolling the perimeter.
-But I need to keep an eye on my patients.
-Playtime is over.
The more eyes we have watchin' for Buzzsaw,
the better.
Do you read me, son?
-Loud and clear.
-Woo-hoo! C'mon, Pal. Let's do this.
Yeah! Knock those dragon hunters off their dragons!
-Wei! This one's all ours.
Clean him and fry him!
-[cheers, laughs] -Hey! Hey!
We're supposed to be knocking the hunters off their dragons.
You incinerated me!
-Just keeping you on your toes, Kullersen.
And where did all these Tom standees come from anyway?
-My mom. It's a long story. -[both chuckling]
-Speaking of your mom,
I can't believe she trusts you enough
to let you go back to the realms
now that she knows about Buzzsaw.
-Ah, c'mon, I'm her son. Of course, she trusts me.
Okay, it took a lot of convincing.
And she probably trusts Thunder more than she trusts me,
but whatever, that works too!
-Oh, look at this, Gonzo. Shocker.
Jun and Kullersen. Sneakin' off again.
-We're just getting a jump-start on training.
-ALEX: Mm-hm. -Clearly.
-Where's, D? It's time for us to plan a raid on Buzzsaw's camp.
We need to get the dragon book back,
and free those captured dragons once and for all.
-Oh, so you can finally clear your conscience?
Since, ya know, you're the one who handed
Buzzsaw the dragon book in the first place.
-Ow! -Tom did it to save
Thunder's life, Eugene.
-Okay, sure. -[Jun groans]
-D! Just in time.
-You okay? -I'm fine.
-Mm, you don't look fine. You look deflated.
-It's nothing. -Okay. [clears throat]
In that case, let's plan the raid on Buzzsaw.
If we can hit his camp this afternoon--
-I don't think I can go today.
-What? What do mean ya can't go? We need you.
-Let me guess. You're too busy workin'
in your new, boring dragon hospital?
Ow! What I say?
-Helping injured dragons isn't boring, Eugene!
And yes, I have patients in my care.
I need to keep an eye on them.
-But getting the book back from Buzzsaw
is important, D'Angelo.
-The dragon hospital is important too!
Why can't anybody understand that?
Just forget it. I have to do my rounds.
-D. -I'll see you guys later.
C'mon, girl.
-I don't know about you guys,
but if D'Angelo's gonna be that much
of a downer, I'm glad he left.
Ha, can I get a yup-yup?!
-[Jun groans] -[Eugene sighs]
Okay. I deserve that.
[Phil snoring]
[buzzing, beeping]
-D'Angelo! Code Red!
Could be Buzzsaw! Move, move, move!
[tense music playing]
[grunts] Stay on my wheel, D.
[quietly] Remember what I taught you.
A Ranger always expects the unexpected.
[distant noises]
* *
I got ya now!
[grunts]
-Pop! Are you okay?
-I'm fine. I must've hit somethin'.
I knew it! Someone's been messin' with the sensors.
[distant screeching]
Shh, shh, shh, shh.
* *
-A Hobgobbler?
-[grumbling] -Oh no! He's choking!
How do you give a dragon the Heimlich?
-Here.
[grunts]
Guess we know what's been chewin' on the sensors.
[groans] These things are a menace!
Whoa, why is it lookin' at me like that?
Is it dead?
-No. It, it must still be disoriented.
Here. Let me see him.
-[sighs] Is he gonna be all right?
-I'm not sure. He might've injured his esophagus.
-[screeches] -Whoa, whoa! No, no, no!
Be careful, be careful!
-Now, now, calm down, dragon,
or ya might hurt yourself more than you already have.
[purring]
Huh? What? Hey! Get this thing off of me!
-We need to get him to the dragon hospital STAT,
so I can run more tests. Something's not right.
-Fine. You take him.
-[Phil groans] -[D'Angelo chuckles]
[groans]
-So, what's the word?
-His esophagus is okay, but
it looks like he has a sprained leg and a sprained wing.
He must've tangled with something before he choked.
-Well, whatever he fought with,
he took out his frustrations on my perimeter sensor.
-I'll need to keep him for observation for a few days,
make sure he can fend for himself
before returning him to the wild.
-Oh, might be time to restrict dragons from being in town.
Then you won't have to waste your days in this hospital.
You'll be on the front lines where you belong--
-Dad, no.
-All of these dragon distractions
and sensor issues are leavin' the station vulnerable
to attack from Buzzsaw.
-Buzzsaw is one of the reasons
this dragon hospital is so important!
-You can't shut it down! -D'Angelo. Now is not the time
to have this conversation.
I'd like to get a little shut-eye
before my day starts all over again.
So can ya please finish up
with your little pal so we can get to bed?
[snarls]
-I'll be back in a few hours. -[whimpers]
Try to get some sleep.
[melancholy music playing]
-Hey, Pal. -[yawns]
EUGENE: [yawns] This better be important, Tommy.
I don't need beauty sleep, but I sure do enjoy it.
-It is a little early for a Dragon Rider meeting.
-Sorry, guys. I couldn't sleep. -[yawns] That makes one of us.
-Where's D'Angelo?
-Oh, um, I didn't invite him.
-You didn't invite him, like, intentionally?
-D'Angelo is completely wrapped up
in his new dragon hospital right now,
and I totally respect that, but every day Buzzsaw has that book
is another dangerous day for dragons.
-What are you saying, Tom?
-I'm saying, I think we should raid Buzzsaw's camp
without D and Plow.
-[gasps] -Why not?!
There's four of us and three of them. We can do it!
And Jun and I have been training on the side.
-[sighs] Tom, we're a team, remember? No Rider left behind?
-This is different.
-For an attack on Buzzsaw like that,
we need to be at full strength.
-Listen to my sister, Tommy boy. She's weird, but she's smart.
-Okay. W-What if instead of going in dragons blazing,
we do it covertly?
Create some kind of diversion,
and then sneak in and get the book?
He'll never even know we're there.
C'mon. I-I need this.
-[sighs] Okay, Tom.
-But if things start to go sideways,
we book it out of there.
-If? "Sideways" is Kullersen's middle name.
[snoring]
-[dragon grumbling] -[yells]
-Aah!
D'Angelo!
Get this “thing” outta this house!
-I can't believe he escaped the hospital
and found his way here.
I've never seen this kind of devotion
from a Hobgobbler before.
-[chuckles] Oh, look. -What?
-He likes you, Phillip.
-I would think you'd be more upset.
He did steal your spot in the bed.
-Of course, he did. I left it nice and warm.
-[gasps] This Hobgobbler must have had a moment with you
after you saved him from choking.
A connection was made!
[grumbling, screeches]
-Nothing was made. A sensor was broken.
Now, I don't care about all this dragon mumbo-jumbo.
I need him gone.
-Ya know, Pop,
the Hobgobbler's recovery
might go faster if he can stay here with us.
Then I can give him round-the-clock care.
-Absolutely not. You know your mother's allergic to cats,
probably allergic to dragons, too.
-Nope, I'm fine.
-Well, I have a no pet rule, so--
-He's not a pet, he's a patient. -The dome is too small to have--
-C'mon, Phillip. He's really cute.
It might be nice to have a little dragon
around here for a few days.
[chuckles]
-Oh, the two of them double-teamed me,
that's what happened.
Not a fair fight.
All I know is, D better clean up after that thing
'cause if I step in dragon poop I'm gonna--[yells]
[playful screeching]
Oh. [grunts]
Get over here! [grunts] You slippery, little wiggler!
Oh! D'Angelo!
-How we looking, Pete? -Spectacular, Chief.
-Once you get this sensor activated,
we'll run a check to make sure Buzzsaw--
Are you even listening to me?
-Oh, uh, yes, it-- Chief, it's just--
-[grumbles] D'Angelo!
Hello?
Oh.
Hmm.
All right. [chuckles] Peace. Quiet.
And Lunch.
[gasps] No.
-[belches] -Not my taco meatloaf!
[yells, grunts] Get off of me, you lunch thief!
Consider yourself dishonorably discharged.
Have a nice life.
[whimpers]
-I'll tell ya this much, Jack.
Whatever idiot wrote this book,
in this crazy old-timey language,
sure knew a lot about dragons.
[Jack grumbles]
Still hungry? Here ya go.
When you're done, maybe we'll take an afternoon flight.
-He's alone, and he's got the book.
-Let me see that.
If by alone you mean he's sitting right next to
that giant dragon, you're right.
-Ya know, it's not too late to go back to the Lair,
sit in the hot springs,
plan a future that doesn't involve
death and dismemberment.
-Now's our chance. I'll sneak in and grab it, alone.
-Tom.
-I'll be fine.
You guys just, just keep your eyes open and cover me.
[tense music plays]
[grumbles]
PHIL: Ate all my taco meatloaf.
-Hey, Pop. I've been lookin' for you.
Figured you might be havin' lunch.
[Phil grumbles]
-What are you doing? -Signin' an edict
banning dragons in Rakke Town
and shuttering your little hospital.
-No. Dad! You, you can't! -I can and I did.
These dragons are a nuisance, D'Angelo.
And they only serve
as a distraction from the real threat.
-Dad. Please. I-I thought if the Hobgobbler stayed with us
you would see how loving and loyal dragons can be.
-You just need more time to-- -Sorry, D. Time is up.
-Wait. Where's the Hobgobbler?
-I put him outside, where animals belong.
[gasps]
I don't know what the problem is.
I'm sure he just went home.
-The problem is, his leg and his wing haven't healed yet.
He'll be defenseless in the Realms
and easily picked off.
-Well I... didn't think of that. [sighs]
[sniffs]
* *
-Follow the drool. He went that way!
[groans]
* *
[exhales] Just as I thought.
He's heading back to the dragon world.
There's no time to get Plowhorn, I'm climbing down.
-Just stop right there, D'Angelo. You know the rules.
No lone wolf missions.
I'm coming with you.
* *
[grumbles]
* *
-Okay. He has a clean path. He's going for it.
WINSTON: Look, I'm just sayin',
Buzzsaw likes Jack more than he likes us.
-Ugh, Buzzsaw likes paper cuts more than he likes us.
-[rustling] -Shh!
You hear something?
[majestic music playing]
-Oh, oh. -[dragons screeching]
[Phil chuckles]
So, this is the dragon world.
You were right, D. It's amazing.
-Stay on task.
You look for predators while I look for tracks.
-Attaboy. An Army Ranger never deviates from the mission. Now--
-That's what this is all really about, isn't it?
Banning dragons? Shutting down the hospital?
You only pretended to support my passion, but the truth is,
you hate the fact that I wanna be an animal vet
and not an army vet.
-That's ridiculous.
[dramatic music plays]
Okay, yes. I thought all this animal stuff was just a phase,
that you would ultimately follow in my footsteps.
-I knew it! I knew it!
-But you gotta understand, D, my job as a father
is to help you reach your potential.
-Then start helping me.
I have the potential to be a great veterinarian!
[screeching]
Whoa, whoa, whoa. Where are you goin', little guy?
-C'mon. We gotta get you someplace safe.
[growls]
Ooh! So, that's how it's gonna be.
[grumbling]
-That is a Speed Stinger. -A what now?
-It's a dragon. Very fast. Potent venom.
We have to find cover, now.
-There!
* *
[grunts]
-Huh.
-Phew.
[yells, grunts]
-[bells jingling] -FORD: Intruder!
-Fire at will!
-Uh-oh.
Whoa! Ah!
[grunting, yelling]
* *
[evil laughter]
[gasps] Whoa!
Wait! Pal! The book!
-I think this qualifies as going sideways, Kullersen!
-Middle schoolers!
Didn't know we were playing today.
Boys!
It's time for the secret weapon!
[Ford, Winston grunting]
[gasps]
* *
Hey, lightning bird! Zap this!
-TOM: Look out! -[Alex screaming]
-Alex!
[Alex screaming]
-Retreat, Riders. Retreat!
-I don't have to read the words in order to follow the pictures!
Come back any time, middle schoolers.
-You're always welcome! -[evil laughter]
-[sighs] So, what do you know about this Speed Stinger dragon?
-I know I have antivenom for their stings
back at the hospital,
but that doesn't really help us now.
-You, um, you developed an antivenom?
-Yes. With Dr. Kullersen's help.
-[sighs] Look, D. I just think you would make a bett--
-I don't care what you think, okay?
I have my own life. My own goals.
A person doesn't have to wear a Ranger Pin on their shirt
to make a difference, or have honor.
-I know that.
-Do you? -[roaring, screeching]
-It found us. -We have to go!
-[both gasp] -Run, D'Angelo! Save yourself!
-No! I'm not leaving you! -Go!
-All right, Dragon.
You're messin' with the wrong Ranger.
You wanna tussle?
Let's tussle.
-[screeches] -[Phil grunts]
-[yells] Dad!
* *
[screeching]
[triumphant music playing]
[screeches]
-You... you saved my life.
-I told you, Pop. They're loyal. Just like the Rangers.
-Mm, I guess, if you wanna stay with us until you're healed up,
that's fine by me.
But you're gonna have to sleep in D'Angelo's room. Huh?
-[softly] Wait, D-- -Shh.
It's all right.
-[grumbles] -I'm not gonna hurt you.
I just wanna check on that injured tail.
[growls, sniffs]
[heroic music]
Don't worry, guys. These are all superficial wounds.
-You hear that, Feathers? You're super.
-Pop, pass me the anti-inflammatory ointment.
-You got it, Dr. D.
-I sure am glad we have this dragon hospital.
You were right, D. It is important.
-Wouldn't be as necessary if Kullersen
didn't almost lead us to our doom.
[Jun grunts]
-Seriously, Tom,
you should have waited for Plow and me.
-Okay, okay. You're right.
And now that Buzzsaw has reinforced his camp,
we're gonna have to figure out another way to get the book.
-[chuckles] Hello. -[happy chittering]
-Looks like you have a new friend, Chief.
[Phil laughing]
-What's his name? -Hm, Hobs.
I'm gonna build him a perch on top of the big dome,
so he can be our lookout dragon. [laughs]
-That is a great idea, Pop.
-The more eyes we have watchin' out for Buzzsaw, the better.
I just hope he doesn't burn this place
to the ground. [laughs]
[epic theme playing]
