[Under the Skin]

[Episode 7]

Don't you know what time it is? Why aren't you back yet?

Professor Hua, your daughter isn't coming home tonight.

Who are you?

That's not important. The most important thing is she's in my hands.

If you don't want her to die, prepare Y3,000,000 in cash.

Of course, you can choose to call the police.

I can also choose to kill her.

Where's Yao Yao? Let me talk to her.

Dad! Dad!

I'm sorry.

Muyao, you're so pretty.

Honestly, I don't want to hurt you.

But I've got to do this.

[I'm done with my part. The rest is up to you.]

Hello, the number you've dialed is powered off.

Sorry, the subscriber you've dialed is powered off.

Let's call the police.

We can't.

What if something happens to Yao Yao?

We definitely can't.

You don't have any pictures of your boyfriend?

Wen Jing.

I eliminated all women with this name, here are the three men named Wen Jing. Can you take a look?

Is it this one? He is from Shanxi, 24 years old.

This one is from Beijing, 20 years old, and still in university.

It's probably not this one... right?

Are you sure that's his name?

I-I'm sure.

H-He wrote to me before.

We can only wait for the DNA analysis for comparison then.

I've already processed it.

There's no trace of her being assaulted on her,

we can't find the man's DNA.

What do we do now?

Shen Yi, I'm sorry to interrupt you.

There's been a kidnapping case, the victim is a woman.

She claims that she was kidnapped by her own boyfriend.

Up to now, we can't find any way to identify the suspect.

- We can only rely on your help now. - Okay, I'll be there right away.

Everything the victim said is basically true.

She managed to escape by herself.

The time difference can be used.

What you mean is that the kidnapper might come back here?

Set up surveillance immediately.

Instructor Shen.

This is Officer Shen from our branch.

Hello.

Come on out.

Instructor Shen, why did you bring a cat?

He was bored at home.

Can you be his company?

His name is Xiaoxuan, he seems to like you a lot.

It's fake.

Go on, cry. You'll feel better after you cry it out.

Why would he do that to me?

When we find him, you can ask him yourself.

I want to know why.

Those police officers outside all asked,

"Why would you trust an unfamiliar man?"

Was he unfamiliar to you?

He's the person you like.

To you,

he definitely isn't some stranger.

Come on.

Tell me how he looks, first.

I'll sketch his face.

- Don't move! - What are you doing?!

Don't move!

What are you doing?!

[Interrogation Room]

You don't need to sketch anymore, we got the suspect. Please come identify the person.

Captain Cheng.

Lift up your head.

None of them are him.

Do you know this person?

- I don't. - Look carefully!

I really don't know him.

Who asked you to deliver the food?

Brother Duan.

Keep going.

I was sleeping in the morning and suddenly received a text message.

[Deliver breakfast to a seaside house at 6:00 a.m.]

[Deliver breakfast to a seaside house at 6:00 a.m.]

[Brother Duan]

Hello, the number you've dialed is powered off.

Sorry, the subscriber you've dialed is powered off.

Without an address, how did you know about that place?

I've delivered food there before.

That place is remote. Regular delivery services won't go there.

Officer, I really was only delivering food.

How do you know Brother Duan?

I don't really know Brother Duan.

We just had some drinks at a nightclub before. He seems to go there often.

Everyone there knows him. He is quite loyal.

He seems very sociable.

Then later we lost touch.

Not long ago, he suddenly reached out to me. He asked me to help buy some food for him.

Captain Cheng, Brother Duan's phone number was purchased from the black market.

I can't find any identifying information at the moment.

It looks like we need to check that nightclub.

Did they go to Chen Mingfeng's house?

Jiang Feng is there already.

What is this?

It's konjac. (T/N: Asian root vegetable)

[Meat & Cabbage Dumplings]

[Meat & Cabbage Dumplings]

How come there are so many pig trotters.

It looks like he really does deliver food.

Take all of these back.

Hi, Officer. I'm Hua Muyao's father.

How is my daughter?

Don't worry. She is fine.

She was just a bit frightened.

Please come take a look.

Do you know this person?

I don't.

How about this one?

- I don't. - You don't?

He is your daughter's boyfriend.

He was the person who kidnapped your daughter.

Where is my daughter?

Come in.

Officer Shen, they are the victim's family.

Please come in.

I'm sorry to trouble you.

It's all right. It is our duty.

Dad.

Let's go home.

Who is he?

Tingfei, let's talk about it at home.

Let's talk about it at home.

Tell me. Who is he?

Let's go.

He is my boyfriend.

Are you crazy?

Sir, your daughter just experienced being kidnapped.

- Can you watch your emotions? - I'm sorry.

Tingfei! Tingfei!

What do you mean boyfriend?! Aren't you ashamed?!

How can you mess around with such low people?

If the word got out, how am I supposed to face the public?

I know I made you lose face.

Ever since I was young,

what you cared about most wasn't me,

but yourself.

All you care about is if you can find a son-in-law you can be proud of.

So you can show him off in your circle.

Who do I love?

What do I want? Whether I'm happy or not.

You don't care about it at all.

I'm telling you.

I don't like Chen Tingfei.

I'll never marry him, even if I have to be single for the rest of my life.

I won't follow what you want me to do anymore.

Officer, you're really making it difficult for us.

There're hundreds and thousands of people coming in and out of this place, and all of them are called "Brother."

How do I know which "Brother" you're looking for, right?

Hurry up! Clean up the place. Hurry.

- Is this area managed by Director Liu? - Yes.

Call him over to do a health inspection.

Please don't! Please don't!

What you want to know, go ahead and ask me.

I'll cooperate completely.

- The person you said... - Brother Duan.

Brother Duan.

Officer, can you give me more hints?

It's said that he is a regular here.

Regular? With the surname Duan?

There is this guy.

Every time he comes, he's not good with alcohol, and he's got an explosive personality.

When he drinks, he smashes the glasses.

He's been coming here for a few months now. If it wasn't for his lavish spending

Has he been here lately?

No. We haven't seen him for a while now.

Have you seen this person?

Xiao Chen, come here.

Have you seen this person?

Isn't he the guy who wears glasses and is really cheap?

That's right! This guy is very stingy. Every time he comes,

he only orders the cheapest drink and spends all night here.

I don't know why he even comes.

- Do you have surveillance cameras? - Yes.

But they're broken. We'll fix it right away.

Mr. Hua, can I say something?

Your daughter should have her own say when it comes to her love life,

even though this choice wasn't a wise one.

If you keep on having this attitude,

it can backfire.

Her choice? It was a wrong one!

She'll regret it, sooner or later.

But have you thought about

why she made that choice?

A text from the kidnapper?

[Bring the money and get on the subway train at Chunjiang station going toward Lianhai station at 1:00 p.m. Wait for my instructions.]

The hostage is gone.

Why did the kidnapper still send a text message?

If that's the case,

this proves that the kidnapper definitely doesn't know that Hua Muyao has already escaped.

He probably doesn't know that the police have intervened. Otherwise, would he be so daring?

No matter what, it's a good opportunity for us that the kidnapper is demanding a ransom.

Li Han, continue to investigate and search for Hua Muyao's phone.

As long as the signal shows up, we can lock him up.

Mr. Hua, we need you to cooperate with something.

What do you mean?

I'm not going. Isn't Yao Yao safe already?

I don't want to waste my time doing this.

That said, you guys already know the time and place.

You guys can go on your own.

Mr. Hua,

this suspect isn't stupid. If you're not the one who shows up, he definitely won't appear either.

Plus, he's been with your daughter for such a long time. It means he's patient.

If we don't capture him this time,

we don't know what he'll do in the future.

Rest assured, we'll get on the train with you.

Right there in the area.

Keeping you safe is our main priority in this mission.

This subway train has 24 carriages and 18 station stops,

that last 67 minutes in total.

This kidnapper is rather smart. The ransom could be paid at any stop.

- Is he prepped? - Yes.

Your job is to protect Mr. Hua. Don't be more than three steps away.

Understood.

Mr. Hua, don't act so nervous.

If the suspect is near,

you'll give yourself away this way.

[Chunjiang Station]

Think of a way to get a clear look at the face of that guy with dark glasses.

Captain Cheng, that guy isn't Wen Jing.

Okay. Keep an eye on things. Wait for Shen Yi's sketch of Brother Duan.

When I first met Brother Duan, it was at a nightclub.

I accidentally spilled the beer on the table next to me.

They wouldn't let me go.

Just ask for money. Do you have to get so angry?

Are his eyes like this?

The gaze is right, but the eyes aren't quite that big.

What about the nose?

I remember he seems to have a hawk nose with large nostrils.

[Jiang Feng: Get off at Hualin Station. Leave the luggage in the carriage.]

[The above message was sent from Brother Duan's mobile number.]

[Next stop: Hualin Station]

Trace the location of Brother Duan immediately.

Like this?

Pretty close.

But looking at it the eyes still don't seem quite right.

- [Is the sketch of Older Brother Duan out?] - [No.]

We're arriving at Hualin Station. Please get ready if you're getting off at Hualin Station.

Please leave through the doors on the left side.

Please take note of the gap between the train and platform when getting off.

Mobile Unit, meet at the last stop of the station and check everyone who exits.

Wen Jing isn't on the train. Time is of the essence. I need the sketch within three minutes.

- What about the mouth? - The mouth...

I can't really remember. Let me think.

[Lianhai]

[Lianhai]

We've arrived at Lianhai. Please be sure to take your luggage.

Please leave through the doors on the left. Be careful when exiting.

They sent the results of the trace.

Weird. Hua Muyao's cell phone is nearby.

Captain Cheng, we're at the seaside house where Hua Muyao was kidnapped and found two cellphones.

It belongs to Hua Muyao and Brother Duan.

Captain Cheng, we didn't see him.

We were all tricked. He never got on the train at all.

The message must have been sent at a set time.

[Match : 28.7% - Failure to Match]

What's going on? It doesn't match anyone.

Shen Yi must have drawn him wrong.

It's a sketch, not a photo. Of course, it's possible to be wrong.

Not being able to find someone is normal.

Then the trail of clues has died again.

This opponent is interesting this time.

We couldn't find him through the current sketch.

There are a few possibilities.

Hua Muyao and Chen Mingfeng are lying,

Shen Yi drew it wrong,

or perhaps, these two people aren't in the database at all.

This isn't possible.

So the next step...

is to investigate the area where the crime happened.

Find more eyewitnesses.

Pursue the whereabouts of these two people.

Owner, we're from the Public Security Bureau, Beijiang Branch.

Have you ever seen this man?

I remember. He often comes to buy my buns. Usually, he comes at night.

Do you remember his name or where he lives?

I really don't know. Either way, he hasn't been here in a while.

Yes, yes! That's Brother Duan.

And this?

This is...

He seems familiar. He's probably been here. Although, Officer,

the nightclub has a lot of customers every day. I really can't be sure.

Hello, what's new?

Captain Cheng, we've looked at Wen Jing's call log.

The last call Wen Jing made was to Hua Muyao the day before yesterday.

His phone has been off ever since. He has two frequent contacts on his phone.

One is Hua Muyao and the other is Brother Duan.

We've also extracted Brother Duan's call logs.

His last message was to Hua Yunshan.

It's the one that tells him to get off at the Hualin stop.

Brother Duan's number was activated six months ago.

There are call records for the past three days.

In his frequently called numbers, other than Wen Jing, there's another unknown number.

Okay, I'll go back and look into this number.

Hey. Wait, Captain Cheng,

Instructor Shen is also waiting on your orders.

Him?

Go with him to see Hua Muyao and get additional testimony then.

Understood.

Captain Cheng wants us to see Hua Muyao for additional testimony.

- Okay. - Let's go.

Miss Hua, can you think of anything else related to Wen Jing?

Such as... when you went on dates, who did you meet?

When you were together, did you find anything strange?

Or any situations that you found abnormal?

Miss Hua, we need your cooperation in order to catch the kidnapper as soon as possible.

That's enough. Not being able to catch the kidnapper is your problem.

Why are you always here bothering us?

We're the victims.

Mr. Chen, this is a normal line of additional inquiry.

This record needs to be archived.

Okay. We agree. Let's sign.

You can't sign it. She is the one who has to.

Sign it.

Let's get this over with quickly.

[Statement]

I want to talk to these officers alone.

The first time I met Wen Jing was at a concert hall.

During that audition,

I was eliminated.

You made two mistakes in this piece.

These kinds of mistakes are fatal.

At first, I didn't fall in love with him in person.

It was his letters.

Hello. We've never met.

But I've been completely moved by your music.

My name is Wen Jing.

It's cold in early spring. How have you been lately?

If you hadn't made a mistake in that piece of music,

I never would've had a chance to comfort you when you were sad.

I wouldn't have met you either.

Why can't a mistake be beautiful? Brahms accidentally meeting Clara,

actually, was also a beautiful mistake.

Can we meet in person?

Why do we only go on dates at night?

I have time during the day, too.

I also want to see you during the daytime, but I can't.

So during the daytime,

I would keep rereading his letters to me.

Pretending as if he were with me.

He would comfort me and help me through all my little problems.

Complaints about practicing difficult music pieces.

Complaints about a strict father.

No one has ever heard me say this before.

Nor has anyone

ever personally wrote me love letters

to comfort me.

Where are those letters?

He personally... brought these letters over.

I think, anyway.

After all, I've never bumped into him.

I have to take these letters with me.

That unknown number on Brother Duan's phone belongs to a woman.

Captain Cheng, I think it's here.

Owner! Anyone here?

- Owner? - Here, here!

- What do you want to buy? - Police.

How are you related to Brother Duan?

Half a year ago, I answered an unknown call.

He said he had too much to drink and called a random number.

- Just to find someone to chat with. - Sister,

you're really too nice.

You chatted with a random stranger just like that?

Once you started chatting, you chatted with him for half a year? You didn't believe it was a scam?

Look at this old place. What's there to scam?

I felt a kinship.

Just a pitiful person with no one to talk to. I've been divorced for many years already, too.

Having a man to talk to is pretty good.

Anyway, no one knows who the other is, so it's not complicated.

Then, do you know his full name?

I don't know, and I didn't ask.

In this current society, who would reveal their real information?

Did he say anything about a special time or place?

Seems like he did mention something.

- Something about leaving here and living somewhere else. - Where?

That I don't know. Regardless, we can make calls anywhere.

I'm envious. He said he was going to leave, and he did.

You're sure you've really never met this man?

- Who's this? - The person you chat with.

Oh my god.

I've really never met him.

If I knew he was so ugly, I would have stopped chatting with him a long time ago.

The first time this Brother Duan appeared, was around six months ago. He entered the nightclub with a high profile.

Whenever he drinks a lot, he breaks glasses in case others won't remember him.

Wen Jing first appeared about three months ago.

Every time he goes to the nightclub, he drinks the cheapest beer.

We checked the letters that Wen Jing wrote to Hua Muyao. There weren't any fingerprints.

These two have planned this partnership for a long time.

They have a clear division of work. Wen Jing is in charge of abductions,

and Brother Duan is in charge of detention. The nightclub is the place where they connect.

The weird thing is, they've left a lot of clues.

Why do we keep coming to a dead end?

There must be a problem with the linkages.

These two people planned this kidnapping for half a year

and left all these clues.

They left all these traces after committing the crime.

It's not possible.

Unless they're not real.
