[growls]

[fizzles, zaps]

[snarls]

[thunder rumbles]

[epic theme playing]

[zaps, snarls]

-Yes, they are fantastic.

Many so-called myths are actually real stories,

or at least based on them.

And we can use those stories

to better understand dragons.

In that spirit, Mom, I hope you'll consider me

as a trusted advisor in the quest

to learn more about these great creatures.

How was that?

-Woo-hoo-hoo! -That was on point!

-You crushed it. -EUGENE: Yeah.

-You almost convinced me.

-I mean, almost. -[snarling]

-No, that was perfect. -You sure it was okay?

N-not too fast? Maybe another practice round?

-Don't worry. You're gonna nail it.

-[sighs] I hope so.

I just wanna show my mom once and for all that studying myths

hasn't been a big waste of time.

-If this doesn't win her over, nothing will.

-Knowing Mrs. Wong, it's probably nothing will.

[Thunder grumbling]

I think you've got this in the bag.

[chirps]

-[exhales] Okay. It's go time.

[grunting, pumping up]

Who's got what it takes? You've got what it takes!

Hahaha! Yeah!

Doesn't everybody get amped up by fighting shadow demons?

[confused purr]

[phone ringing, beep]

Oh, no. I'm gonna be late!

* *

-[panting] -[doors beeping, hissing]

-If you left earlier, you wouldn't have to rush.

Where are you off to in such a hurry?

-I-I'm coming to see you.

I made an appointment, remember?

-Ah, yes, of course. I was surprised to see your name.

Well, my schedule is packed today.

Why don't we do the meeting right here?

-Y-You mean now?

-Unless you're not prepared...

-No! No. I'm prepared.

Let me just get my visual aids.

-[groans, nervous laugh] -[clatters]

Gah--You know, never mind. I didn't need that anyway.

[clears throat]

So... uh, you know myths, right?

And, uh, dragons.

You met those. Uh, well, they--

They are proof that myths exist. I mean, not that--

Not that they exist exist,

but that they are, uh, they're like,

you know, proof of, like,

that myths, that th-they're a base.

Base, uh... basis? Yes! Yes, a basis.

-For... -[elevator dings]

-Look.

I know this is important to you. I just...

I have more pressing matters right now.

Let's circle back another time. Put a pin in this, okay?

* *

[beep, doors whir]

[beep, doors shut]

-"Circle back." I've heard that one before.

Might as well say we'll never talk about it again.

-Yeah. Pretty much.

-For what it's worth, I think you're on to something.

-You do? -Oh, yes.

We would do well to look at stories and myths of the past

in a historical context.

There's much to glean about science, culture, technology,

-even dragons. -Yes. Exactly!

-Don't let your mother get you down.

She's underestimated me on several occasions.

[beep, doors open]

Hm... You know, I could use someone

with an intimate knowledge of the world down there,

such as yourself.

You're an expert. I mean,

if you were open to helping, of course.

-What did you have in mind?

* *

-Wait, you wanna show her what?

-Someone give this guy an ear swab.

[overly annunciating]: She wants to take Sledkin

down to the Hidden World!

-I'm just gonna show her some Dragonsite.

We'll be in and out. It's not that big of a deal.

-Not a big deal?

How is bringing Sledkin to the Hidden World not a big deal?

-Because ICARIS is literally a science facility

that was built to study the fissure.

And now that they know about the Hidden World,

it makes sense that they'd wanna study that, too.

-Yeah, but...

-But what? -But it's Sledkin.

-It'd be different if it were one of our parents.

But bringing someone like Sledkin down there...

-"Someone like Sledkin"? What does that even mean?

And it's DoctorSledkin!

She's an accomplished scientist,

and she's brilliant and focused and determined,

and she sees meas an expert.

-Jun. My mom has known Sledkin for years.

She's always said that she seems more interested

in herself than science.

-Well, wejust had a conversation

that was all about science.

So, maybe you're letting your mom's feelings about Sledkin

cloud your judgment.

-I don't know, Tom. What if we're wrong?

Everyone deserves the benefit of the doubt.

* *

-Hear that, Wu and Wei?

We're going on a scientific expedition.

-[happy growl] -D?

-You with me? -[grumbles]

-It would be a good idea to have a doctor on the expedition.

-Okay. Why don't you two

take Sledkin down to the Hidden World,

and we'll hang back here and relax.

-Maybe go for a swim. -Yeah!

[worried growl]

-You can get some laps in later, girl.

[growls]

Promise.

* *

-I still think something's off with Sledkin.

Why is she suddenly so friendly with Jun?

-Alright. Who wants to play Marco Polo? Eh?

-We're not really going swimming, Eugene.

-While Jun and D'Angelo are off with Sledkin,

we're gonna do some investigating.

-Find out what Sledkin's really up to.

-Then... we go swimming.

[groans]

-JUN: You should've seen it! -D'ANGELO: Jun's right.

It was like being in a zombie attack but with dragons.

-Ah, yes. I can imagine.

-And that's when I realized stories about zombies

probably came from molting Featherhides.

-Of course. Zombie lore has its origins in the animal kingdom.

I've always wondered about that.

[gasps, yells]

[screaming]

[scared panting]

-Uh, Dr. Sledkin? Maybe ease up on the choking a little?

-Yes, of course.

Dragons are such wonderful creatures,

I sometimes get a bit overzealous.

[dry heaves]

[birds chirping]

[beeping, whirring]

-Coast is clear.

* *

[creaking]

Spread out and look for anything suspicious.

-Score! -You find something?

-Sure did. A treasure trove.

Gummies!

Sweet haul, right?

-Not exactly what we're looking for.

-You ever see someone use gummies

as a froyo topping? Man.

-I love gummies on my froyo. -Of course, you do.

-Hate to ruin your hot take,

but I actually found something.

An email from Sledkin to Linda.

-"Linda. I uncovered a valuable deposit.

Need to gather more later."

ALEX: And there's a photo!

-Wait a minute. That means... Sledkin's the one

who raided the Dragonsite from the Nadder's nest.

It wasn't Buzzsaw!

-But if she already has some Dragonsite,

-why does she need more? -Good question.

-Quick, snap a photo of that. -On it.

[chewing]

-[shutter snaps] -[winces]

-This is sour! -Hm.

Sour gummies are sour.

Any other pearls of wisdom you care to bestow?

[chewing, wincing]

* *

[Sledkin whimpering]

[grunting]

-What an amazing world.

Whoa! [grunts]

[sighs] I'm fine! I'm fine.

Do you mind if I record our findings?

I want to capture everything.

Maybe include some of it in my next book,

with acknowledgment to you, of course.

-Well, actually, rule number one of Dragon Club is--

-I think it's okay this time. Right, D?

I mean, as long as it's for science.

-Uh...

I guess if it's for science?

-Wonderful.

* *

[winces]

[whimpers]

-Now, I'm pretty sure there's some Dragonsite over here.

* *

[shrieks, sniffing]

-Is that one of those Terrible Terrors?

-Nope! Nope, I wouldn't.

That's a Scuttleclaw. Don't mess with those.

-It looks pretty harmless.

-Yeah, they may look cute,

but they have a dangerous screech.

Humans can't hear it, but it agitates other dragons.

-Especially Terrible Terrors.

It could set off a firing frenzy.

-That sounds like the last thing we'd want.

Good thing I have you two with me.

-[Jun laughs, gasps] -[dragon squawking]

-Over there!

[squawks]

-Now those are Terrible Terrors.

-Look at that. -[dragons chirp]

[shutter snaps]

JUN: Oh yeah.

They like to blast the Dragonsite. Not sure why.

-Astounding!

Rocks that physically react to dragon fire.

But, it's not just glowing.

The heat seems to interact with the composition of the stone.

Jun, this is incredible!

[fake coughing]

-It's okay, D. -Are you sure?

It's not just breaking the rules.

It's breaking my constitution.

-She's a doctor. -[D sighs]

-I guess she does seem to be all about the science?

-Totally! And can you believe a scientist of her caliber

asked mefor help?

I gotta say, it feels pretty good

for an adult to finally listen to me.

Never would have guessed it'd be her.

-We gotta tell Jun what we found.

-No way! She's not getting my gummies.

-Good luck, Dr. Sledkin!

-Thank you both again for your help.

It was eye-opening.

-Ugh. She's being so nice to them,

it makes me wanna hurl.

[dramatic music]

-Hey! It went great!

-Yeah, she really impressed me.

She was very... scientific.

-And totally nice.

-Yeah, well, that's probably because she's using you.

[both gasp]

-Using me? For what?

-For... Well, I'm not sure,

but I do know she's not being honest with you.

-Yeah. And I found straight-up undeniable bombshell proof of it

on Sledkin's computer.

I mean, wefound it.

-Wait, you snuck into Sledkin's office

while we were gone?

Seriously?

-Yes, but it was to protect you.

[beep]

-Right. How else would you get proof

that Eugene is a giant doofus?

TOM: Huh?

-Ugh, you forgot to turn the camera around, numbskull.

-Wasn't my fault!

They should put a sour warning on the package.

-Okay, fine. So we don't have the photo,

but we saw an email Sledkin sent,

admitting she's the one who took the Dragonsite

from the Nadders' nest.

-So?

-[scoffs] "So?" -JUN: She's a scientist!

She does scientific research,

and that can mean collecting samples.

-True, but her "collecting"

messed up the dragons' ecosystem.

-And how many times have weaccidentally done that?

-Gotta give that one to Jun.

-But, if she's already been down in the realms,

she could have just gone whenever she wanted.

She didn't even need you.

* *

-Gee, Tom, did you ever think

that maybe she wantedme there?

That I have something to offer?

Yeah. That's what I thought.

[dragon growls]

-Nice going, slick. Now, dinner's gonna be super awkward.

[phone buzzing]

-Why are you ignoring my texts?

-Tom's been texting me to apologize,

and I'm ignoring him.

And why are you texting me from 10 feet away?

-I was in a comfortable spot on the couch!

Didn't wanna get up.

[annoyed groan]

-[buzz] -Stop texting me!

-I didn't! -[knocking]

-You get it. -You're closer!

-You're closer!

[door opens]

-Ugh! Sorry, I-I'm not in the mood--

-Look, I know you're mad, but it's about the dragons.

* *

[roaring, snarling]

-What's wrong with them?

[growling]

-EUGENE: Hey! -TOM: Thunder!

[roar]

-Shh... It's okay, girl.

[roars]

I can't calm her down.

[snarling]

[dragons stop]

[quiet growl]

-[snarling, stops] -TOM: Huh?

-What was that all about? -I don't know.

[squawk]

-[growls] -Guys!

* *

-[beep] -[doors whir]

-Kinda late to be doing research.

[growling]

Thunder seems to think whatever's bothering the dragons

is coming from the lab. We need to check it out.

[door opens, creaks]

[dramatic music]

[weak squawk]

-What's a Terror doing in here?

SLEDKIN: Linda, get that one out of there

and put the fresh one in.

-Guys. Shh.

[tense music]

[weak squawk]

-And boop. [giggles] -[squawks]

[sleepy breathing]

-The poor thing. It's totally exhausted.

-[sighs] Okay.

-[screeching] -[struggling] Hey! Ah!

[frustrated grunt]

-[chittering] -[grumbles, sighs]

LINDA: Hoo! Gettin' the hang of this.

-I don't get it. What's she doing?

-[lights click] -SLEDKIN: Ready?

Five. Four.

Three. Two.

-One. -[quiet squawk]

-[dragon chittering] -Well, that was anticlimactic.

-Oh, no. Check it out.

[squawking, growling]

[shrieks]

-It's just like in the Nature Realm.

-You don't think...

-Tell them, Jun. -[sighs]

-We ran into a Scuttleclaw and told Sledkin

about its silent screech.

That it sends the Terrors into a frenzy, causes them to blast.

-So, she took a Terrible Terror and a Scuttleclaw?

-I don't see a Scuttleclaw.

[shriek]

[dramatic music]

-[beep] -[shriek]

-[sad purr] -D'ANGELO: Of course.

She was recording with her phone.

She must have recorded the screech.

-That's why Thunder and the other dragons

were so agitated.

-So Sledkin was using me the whole time.

I guess you were right, Tom.

-Look, Jun...

-I just wanted someone to take me seriously.

And now, those poor dragons are paying the price.

-It could have happened to anyone.

Let's just focus on rescuing the dragons.

-My mom doesn't have time for me.

Sledkin was just using me.

I should take the hint and stop trying.

-What? No way! No.

You have so much to offer, Jun.

No matter what anyone else says.

But right now, we need you.

Let's go save some dragons.

-Maybe next time, you should whisper your sweet nothings

a bit more quietly.

-How dare you interrupt my important work!

-I expect-- -[Eugene grunts]

-What? Distraction technique.

-Distract me. You're interfering with Rakke Corp--

-My sour gummies!

-Don't pick those up! What do you think you're doing?

* *

[grunts]

[gasps, groans]

[weak growl]

It's okay. It's okay. We got you.

-[yelps] -Get out of here this minute!

[dragons shrieking]

[gasps]

[screech playing]

-[squawk] -Take cover!

[shrieking]

-Look what you did! [gasps]

-Jun!

Grab that one! [gasps]

-I can't! -[screaming]

They're out of control!

[screams]

[squawks]

-At least the phone's smashed! That oughta calm them down.

-[shrieking] -[gasps] Nope.

* *

[struggling]

-[banging on door] -Better luck next time, kiddies.

[banging]

-Whoa!

[banging]

* *

[dragons squawk, chirp]

[smashing, glass breaking]

-There they are! I have an idea. Start the van.

-We can't let her get away with them!

We can't let Sledkin use those Terrors like lab rats.

[Alex grunts]

-Ugh, come on already! We've been here for hours.

-You have no concept of time.

It's literally been two minutes.

-[click] -Got it!

* *

-[happy growl] -Did you see Sledkin?

-Where'd she go, pal? -[roars]

[starts van, tires screech]

-She's got a cage in the van. Come on!

[dramatic music]

-Whoa! She's really flying! -Two can play that game.

Come on, pal!

* *

[engine revs, tires screech]

[tires squealing]

[zap]

-Huh?

[screaming]

[grunts]

[squawk]

[screams]

-[squawk] -Are you crazy? Lightning!?

Who shoots lightning at someone?

-Hand over the dragons.

-What dragons? -Oh-ho-ho, that's rich.

-Like we won't find them in-- -D'ANGELO: Tom!

The cage is empty!

-Wha... -Where's Sledkin?

[grunts]

[gasps, groans]

Sledkin sent the van as a decoy to distract us.

-While she goes after the Terrors.

-So smart. -TOM: Come on!

We gotta get back there before she finds them.

* *

[squawking, chirping]

-Don't be afraid.

I just need to run a few more tests.

[whimpering]

Huh?

-Leave them alone, Sledkin.

-Out of my way, Thomas.

[growling]

-We're not going anywhere.

-I expected this from him,

but I thought you were smarter than that.

-I'm smart enough to know that what you're doing is wrong.

I know how you feel.

You're frustrated that you've been overlooked,

but hurting dragons to prove yourself...

It's awful!

-[scoffs] You don't know how I feel.

You're just a child. I'm a world-renowned scientist,

and I'll do whatever I must to leave my mark.

Which means using those dragons however I see fit.

[gasps]

-Now, get out of my way. -[roars]

[growling]

* *

-What is all this commotion about?

-Director Wong, I'm so glad you're here.

I was doing some very important research,

you know, my job, when I caught these children

sneaking into my lab.

-What? -Yes.

They even ruined some of my equipment.

-They must be punished. -[growling]

-Is this true?

-She wasn't just doing experiments.

She was torturing these dragons.

-It's true, Mom. She was totally messing with these guys.

-Director Wong, this is ridiculous. -You don't understand!

-[overlapping arguing] -Enough!

There have been zero authorized experiments involving dragons.

So, Dr. Sledkin,

I suggest you return to your actualjob.

-Unbelievable. This is outrageous!

-As for you,

there willbe consequences for your actions.

But first, carefully take these dragons

-back where they belong. -[chirping]

-Yes, Mrs. Wong.

[sighs]

MAY: Jun.

A word.

* *

-Mom, I know you're disappointed in me,

but you don't understand Sledkin. She--

-Don't worry.

I will be keeping a more watchful eye on Dr. Sledkin.

Anyone could see those little ones were upset.

But right now, I'm more concerned

about you and your safety.

It can get dangerous out here at night.

* *

-I'm okay. -Good.

Now, if I'm to understand Dr. Sledkin,

I'm gonna need a better understanding of the dragons.

Perhaps you know a consultant?

-I think I doknow someone.

-Perfect. And I bet, whoever it is,

she'll have plenty of time to enlighten me

after she finishes her homework.

-Hahaha! Yeah! Oh!

[squawking]
