Both my parents died
in car accidents.

I was paralyzed to live my life

There was so much excitement
going on, I had to see it.

My family -- they are a big part
in inspiring me to sing.

you've been successful at that.

How is that navigating
through the music business?

The hard part about that, Gail,
in the beginning

was being worried
about what others had to say.

Once I lost that,

I started to do what felt
best for me in my career.

and he said, "Snoop, I
want to get you on this record,"

I'd say, sure thing, "Willie."

And it becomes a big record
in his world and my world.

Music is a universal
language of all people.

So you have to find a way
to make your vocals

become an instrument.

that God created and find ways
to master yourself

With everything that my family
is going through right now,

I just -- I think it's a perfect
message for me to sing to them.

My dad was diagnosed
with cancer,

and after my blind audition,

I found out that
the chemotherapy we were trying

was not working and our options
for treatment are limited.

I was wondering if it was
a good idea for me to come back

with everything
my family is going through,

but my dad looked at me
and said,

"Sloane, like,
you have to keep going.

You can't give up
on your dream."

It's been a really tough journey
being away from home,

but I know I have my family's
full support.

Now, all of these pop songs
are hard

because you have to have
the personality

to be able to pull them off,
