take up their cross

and die to their self daily.

Last night I pondered
into the late hours

about what the Lord has
been doing amongst me

and my fellow lesser brothers,

and I asked the Lord

why me?

And in the middle of the night,

when almost everyone was asleep,

the Lord whispered to me this.

- Francis, do
you think I chose you

and placed you over my family

because you were
educated and eloquent?

I chose you because
you are simple

and insomuch could
know that it is I

who watches over my flock.

I placed you as
a seal upon them.

- And if I approve this-

- You can't be considering this.

we are big believers

of interdenominational

And as many of you also know,

community outreach center.

going to help us minister

that God would have it to go.

Well, this one day we
took Random Fact Randy

to the Grand Canyon.

And I said, "Randy, I
got a question for you.

Do you know how deep
the Grand Canyon is?"

He said, "Oh yes.

I know that it is deep.

It's 177 miles around
the circumference
and it's this deep."

And I said, "Oh,
okay, that's great.

Well, Randy, I wonder if
you would know how deep

the Grand Canyon is

in a new way

if I did this."

And I pushed him in.

Churches all across the world

will claim to know

that God loves them.

But there is a Grand
Canyon of a difference

between knowing God loves you
and experiencing that love.

This is why that the world
has been so fascinated

with the life of St. Francis
for almost 800 years.

- Because the why of Francis
was that he knew he was loved.

And when he
experienced that love,

he fell head over heels
in love with Christ

and he dedicated his
life to following Jesus

the only way that he knew how.

his life was filled

with the fruit of the Spirit.

greatest things for God

Francis's life was about.

Going around loving God
and doing things for God.

Second of all, the life that
Francis committed to God

wasn't about doing more.

It was about dying more.

said, "I am who I am

inside of God, nothing

We are but mere fingers
pointing to the moon

Jesus says follow me.

And where does he
lead us but the cross?

Because unless we too die,

we will never experience
our own resurrection.

if I have responsibility,

if I have all the things a
man can have in this life,

that, that's where my value is.

But I don't know why.
