[The Rise of Ning]

[Episode 24]

[Marquis of Anbei's Mansion]

Uncle, it's about time.

How's it going?

My Lady,

Third Young Master didn't

go to the bookstore today.

It's so late.

Why hasn't Third Brother come back?

He went to Mr. Sun's bookstore

and hasn't come back yet.

Qingqu and I went to check it out.

He wasn't there.

Perhaps Qingqu just didn't see him.

Alright.

Then come with me to the bookstore now.

Let's see if Qingqu made a mistake,

or if you're lying here.

Seventh Miss,

Young Master has indeed been quite busy lately.

Too busy to come home at night?

Well, you know,

men can be like this sometimes.

Has he been busy

because of Daoyan?

Seventh Miss, how did you know…

Now I know!

Be honest with me!

Where is he?

If I tell you,

he'll kill me.

I'll kill you too.

Young Master said

he'd definitely find a way

to get out of it unscathed.

Unscathed?

Make it clear!

They're their own people.

It's all just a show.

Shameless!

Protect His Lordship!

Yes!

They want to take the prisoner away.

Kill them all!

Lu Jiaxue is about to take action.

Do it!

He's here.

[Chen Daoyan is in danger.]

No! Get out of here! Get out of here!

Yining,

I hope you never read this letter.

If you do,

sorry, I broke my promise.

I once swore before Master's grave

to take good care of

my fellow disciples.

I know

♫Time slips away through a series of unfortunate events♫

you can't let go

of your mother's death.

What worries me the most

♫Sprinkled in memory, forever unblemished♫

is the grudge between you and Chen Lan.

Feel free to ask

the men at the trading firm for help.

They're all at your disposal.

♫If, if it's just you and me, if we stick together through thick and thin♫

You can also move out of Luo's Mansion

to live a peaceful life.

Take good care of yourself.

♫The fall of snow would signify our journey into old age together♫

Otherwise, I would never rest in peace.

Death is inevitable for everyone.

♫You're like a poetic song♫

There's no need to rejoice over good fortune

or to grieve over misfortune.

I won't ask for your forgiveness.

♫One intersection is engraved in my heart♫

Sorry to leave before you.

I hope that in the future,

you can live a better life.

If one day

♫Among all the people, I'm only impressed by you♫

everyone in the world blames you

and there's no place for you anymore,

don't be sad.

Living in a small dwelling with jujube trees

♫I'll carry out this reckless love and stick to my word for life♫

and watching ginkgo trees in autumn

has always been the life you want to live.

Live a good life

for yourself and me.

Yining, take care.

What are you doing here?

Leave!

Duke Ying is coming.

You'll be saved.

Let's go.

Young Master Chen.

Duke Ying's men are here.

[Firecrackers]

Don't move.

Drop your swords.

Or I'll make him die a gruesome death.

I know who you are.

Surrender now.

Stop!

Lu Jiaxue!

How dare you!

How dare you try to kill the important prisoner of the court?

Put down your sword!

Lu Jiaxue,

I doubt you can explain this.

Go…

now.

Take them down!

Move aside!

Move aside!

Marquis Lu.

Please come with me to see His Majesty

and clarify this matter in person.

My Lord,

I'm arresting a dangerous criminal.

I'll certainly explain everything afterwards.

Fine.

I'll be waiting.

Let's see if there were really assassins,

or if you just put on a show.

I wonder how you'll explain yourself to His Majesty.

The Imperial City Guard

will explain everything

regarding today's incident to His Majesty.

Let's go.

Seventh Miss.

Yeah. What's the matter?

You're so protective of him.

Let's make a guess.

Will he come to save you tonight?

He?

Who do you mean?

Young Master.

How's it?

Look.

I just came nearby

to have a cup of tea.

My maid

went to buy something for me.

Seeing the riot downstairs,

I ran out.

What's wrong with that?

You came for just a cup of tea

but caused quite a commotion, didn't you?

Your Third Brother

usually appears to care for you very much,

but it turns out he doesn't really do.

Third Brother?

This matter

has something to do with my Third Brother?

Stop playing dumb!

He has nothing to do with it?

Careful. The river is behind you.

Seventh Miss,

if I were to kill you today,

would he come to save you?

You're taking an innocent life

in public.

Do you have any respect for the law?

Shut up!

Are you guys

just a bunch of cowards hiding in the shadows?

You guys go back first.

No!

Young Master, you can't go.

He knows

where you're hiding

and is trying to lure you out.

But I have to save her!

If you go out just like this,

you'll be giving Lu Jiaxue leverage.

He'll say Seventh Miss

is one of us.

How will you get her off the hook in the future?

If you do this,

not only will Seventh Miss die,

but the entire Luo family will also be dragged down.

Young Master, calm down.

Lu Jiaxue has never seen me.

I have no connection

to the Luo family.

Even if I got caught,

I'd just say

I couldn't stand

him bullying a defenseless girl.

Young Master, you go back first.

The rest of us will go to save her.

Let's go.

Won't you show yourselves?

Can't believe you're

letting a girl cover for you.

Aren't you ashamed?

Are you going to watch her die?

Even if

it meant I'd die again today,

I wouldn't let you use me

to threaten my Third Brother.

My Lady.

My Lady, you're awake.

Why am I here?

Don't you remember?

Third Young Master brought you back.

He said you fell into the water.

It gave us quite a fright.

Did anyone notice it?

Neither Old Madam nor Eldest Madam

knows about it.

Good.

♫What is there to fear in the mysterious maze?♫

♫The heartbeat holds the fall of light♫

♫Following the pulse of time, we plunge into the whirlpool♫

♫For you, for me, and for seeking an answer♫

♫I'd rather jump into a fire just to break through the night♫

My Lady,

Third Young Master had someone

bring over some decoction.

Let me help you drink it.

♫I would rather fall and reveal my destiny♫

♫I would rather it be in vain and let me be your support♫

♫How would I be afraid to end up as bubbles?♫

If he comes again,

tell him

to take his things away.

♫Love is drifting side by side♫

I don't want to see him anymore.

I'm afraid Daoyan

had already planned

to die by Lu Jiaxue's sword.

Now that he passed away,

we can't even give him a proper burial

or erect a tombstone.

Daoyan

wanted to pave the way for us with his death.

We cannot let him die in vain.

But now,

Wang Yuan and Lu Jiaxue have joined forces.

They're so powerful

that few in the world

can stand against them.

Junior,

what are you going to do next?

Take the imperial examination,

enter the court,

and gain power

at all costs.

But

last night, Lu Jiaxue

held Seventh Miss hostage to force you to go out.

He must be certain

that you're the one who tried to free the prisoner.

I'm afraid this can't end well.

Even if he wants to end it peacefully,

I won't let him off.

Junior,

we can't be of much help to you,

but as long as you need us,

we're willing to do anything for you.

We can't let our teacher die in vain.

We can't let Senior Daoyan die in vain.

In this world,

justice and righteousness

will eventually prevail.

Senior Daoyan.

May you rest in peace, Daoyan.

When you see our teacher, please tell him

I'll not

let him down.

[Glorious Flowers in Spring and Solid Fruits in Autumn]

Meimei,

is it really you?

My Lord, if you hadn't

arrived in time this time,

I'm afraid Marquis Lu would have claimed credit

for eliminating those who tried to break the prisoner out

and pinned the murder of the witness

on that group of

men in black.

That's very likely.

When I arrived,

there were two groups of men in black

fighting each other.

One group

must have been Lu Jiaxue's men,

and the other group should be

Chen Daoyan's followers.

So, My Lord, you mean

what Lu Jiaxue said in the palace is true—

that Chen Daoyan killed himself?

You could say

he sacrificed himself for a righteous cause.

However,

if Chen Daoyan had really died

by Lu Jiaxue's sword,

Lu Jiaxue wouldn't be able to get away with it.

This time,

the Imperial City Guard failed in their escort duty.

Lu Jiaxue was denounced,

but

he wasn't really punished.

Does His Majesty

still believe what they said?

If His Majesty truly believed them,

he wouldn't have approved of my proposal.

Then,

you mean…

To do something well,

you must first sharpen your tools.

The person who drew me into this game

calculated everything,

even letting me see

Lu Jiaxue kill the witness.

I think

this case

will soon be reopened.

You've always been cautious.

Why did you

slip up this time?

I was careless.

I didn't expect Duke Ying

to arrive so quickly.

His Majesty's thoughts run deep.

Involving Duke Ying

indicates that he has already

become suspicious.

Now,

the witness from back then

died by our hand.

His Majesty didn't pursue it too much on the surface,

but I'm afraid he's suspecting us even more.

I'll keep a close eye on Chen Jiuheng's remaining followers

and prevent them from stirring up any more trouble.

Those people

are so stubborn.

It's been so many years,

yet they're still trying to overturn the case.

Marquis Lu,

you must get rid of them as soon as possible.

Only then can you and I

rest easy.

I understand.

What is this?

What's the notice about?

[Notice]

It's about the person who died the other day.

I heard there might be some injustice involved.

Duke Ying is searching for evidence.

-Uncle. -Your Lordship.

Duke Ying

is telling everyone

that he'll get to the bottom of it.

His Majesty has grown suspicious of us.

Otherwise,

he wouldn't have approved

Duke Ying's notice.

Will those people

go to Duke Ying's Mansion?

If they dare to make a move again,

they'll meet the same fate as Chen Daoyan.

Keep a close eye on them.

Yes, Your Lordship.

Have you found out anything about last night's incident?

Those people escaped by water,

leaving no trace behind.

I also went to Luo's Mansion to make inquiries.

Last night, Seventh Miss indeed

went out to see the lanterns,

but Third Young Master did not leave the mansion.

Seventh Miss

has safely returned to Luo's Mansion?

Up until now,

there's been nothing unusual at Luo's Mansion.

I guess Seventh Miss is fine.

Your Lordship, it's my fault

that those criminals escaped.

Put that matter aside for now.

Why?

I need to confirm something first.

Uncle, do you still think

that Seventh Miss may be the girl you're looking for?

Unfortunately,

except for you,

no one

saw her face back then.

Otherwise,

we could have someone to identify her.

[Fragrant Herb]

Third Young Master,

Seventh Miss doesn't want to see you.

Please leave.

Has she taken the medicine? Is she feeling better?

She asks me

to return this to you.

Alright.

I'll come back to see her another day.

[Begonia Garden]

Young Master,

Miss Qingqu

was a bit too blunt.

When I helped you

send Seventh Miss away,

I was very tactful.

It's all my fault.

If I hadn't told Seventh Miss,

she wouldn't have been involved.

Young Master, please punish me.

She's angry with me.

It has nothing to do with you.

But you kept it from her

for her own good, didn't you?

Young Master.

Lu Jiaxue!

Don't

you want to know

who the woman

who just fell was?

I don't need to know.

Listen.

The one who just fell

is the woman you've been missing day and night!

What did you say?

She

is your Meimei.

Take Song Yingshan away.

Let go of me!

Lu Jiaxue!

You ingrate!

Even if I died,

I'd haunt you to the end of your days!

You scoundrel!

Lu Jiaxue!

No, Marquis Lu.

I beg you.

Please spare my grandfather.

It's all my fault.

It's all my fault…

What's done is done.

It's too late

to regret it now!

Then kill me and spare the Song family.

I'm begging you.

Song Ziyun.

You used your grandfather's power

to force me to marry you. I refused,

so you joined forces with my good brother,

Lu Jiaran,

to make me suffer.

You thought

when I was driven in a corner,

I'd side

with the Song family, right?

Didn't you?

No.

You were wrong.

I'm a man who

never goes easy

on those who hurt me.

Moreover,

it was you…

who caused the death of my Meimei.

Rest assured.

I won't kill you.

But I'll make you

wish you were dead.

Ye Yan.

Yes.

Where is Song Ziyun now?

She should be a slave at the border.

Go bring her back to me.

Yes.

Richie, you're the best.

No one but you came to see me.

What?

Alright, alright.

I'll remove it for you.

I'll remove it for you.

Yixiu.

What are you doing?

I'm bored.

This is my latest creation:

Brushing Hand Balm.

I've developed several other balms as well.

But Richie can't carry them all.

Use this one first.

Not bad.

I'm feeling a bit better now.

The other day, I heard your mother say

she wants you to marry the princess's son.

It's a noble family,

and Han Zhao likes you very much.

If you marry into that family,

you won't have to be on a diet anymore.

You must be very happy, right?

I don't want to marry the princess's son.

Happy? Not at all.

I haven't been able to eat for days.

Richie, wait a moment.

Alright, alright.

Sixth Miss, what are you doing?

A few birds just flew by.

I told you to forget about them.

It's just the same few birds going back and forth.

-Sister. -But you never get tired of them.

Eldest Miss.

These past few days, the uncomfortable pillow and bedding

have made it hard for me to sleep well.

Mama Zhao, please go to the storeroom

and get a new set for me.

Yes, I'll do it right away.

Thank you.

Stop watching!

Sister.

You're so willful.

If they found out about it,

you'd be punished, and the goose would be cooked.

So you're the best.

You covered for me.

I just can't understand.

Marrying into the Han family is a great honor,

and Young Master Han likes you so much.

Why did you refuse him

and fall out with Mother?

I just don't like him.

Women's feelings

don't matter that much when it comes to marriage.

But…

after you marry a man,

you'll live with him

for the rest of your life.

If you don't like him,

life will be so miserable.

Oh, right.

I heard that Mother has taken you

to dine with the Shen family lately.

What does Madam Shen

think of you?

Haven't you been confined to your room?

How did you know that?

What about you?

What do you think of

Young Master Shen?

His father is an earl.

It's not an ordinary family.

Shan

-may get the privilege of… -But...

no matter how prestigious that family is,

if Shen Yu doesn't treat you well,

what should you do?

I…

What do you think?

I think

if I like a man,

regardless of his family background,

I'll like him just for who he is.

Think about it.

No matter how I change

or what my family background is,

as long as he thinks I'm the best,

then I'm the best.

I consider Han Zhao a friend.

I never thought about marrying him.

I don't care about social status at all.

If I were to get married,

I'd only marry the man I love

and be happy with him for a lifetime.

Sister?

What are you doing?

I'm painting.

You can paint?

Landscape painting.

I don't even think

Ruixiang will believe that.

Alright.

Since you've made up your mind

to go into business,

you need to put in the effort.

Start learning

to read these account books.

Sister.

I've written to our parents

and explained everything.

For you,

I got quite a scolding.

But they've agreed.

Sister!

Sister!

You're the best!

Enough.

I swear

not to embarrass you.

You said it yourself.

When I taught Yining to read account books,

she picked it up right away.

As a member of the Lin family,

don't let your niece outperform you.

Sister, don't worry.

I have a talent for this.

I'll study hard!

Recently,

you've been having headaches again.

You should worry less.

Sixth Miss has been

staying in her room.

You can rest assured.

Good.

If my Yu

can successfully

marry the earl's son in the future,

my recent efforts

won't be in vain.

If both young ladies can marry well,

you will have

two exalted sons-in-law to rely on in the future.

You'll have nothing

to worry about in the future.

Hasn't Luo Yining

done anything lately?

She's been quiet.

I thought she

was better than this.

In my eyes,

her life has been hard as well.

I heard that

she's fallen ill again.

Indeed.

She hasn't walked out of Begonia Garden lately.

How is it that

Seventh Miss is so weak?

Just like one of my in-law's

daughters.

She gets sick very often.

But that girl was born premature.

Born premature?

What's wrong, Madam?

Back then, Gu Minglan

died after giving birth.

Then all the old servants in her quarters

disappeared.

I found it strange at that time,

but since she had died,

there was no way to investigate further.

Madam, do you suspect something?

You've been avoiding me for days.

If you're angry,

just let it out.

Don't keep it

bottled up.

I'm not angry.

Your tone is saying

you're still angry.

Qingqu, leave us.

Let's sit down and talk.

I have nothing to say to you.

Sit down first.

I didn't expect Shao'an

to give the box

to you so easily.

So do you mean

if I hadn't taken it back myself,

you would've kept me

in the dark forever?

Yes.

Third Brother, you've gone to so much trouble for me,

managing the shop for me,

finding me a place to live,

and even preparing a dowry for me.

So thoughtful.

I just wanted

to protect you for life,

whether I was around or not.

Thank you for your protection!

But in my eyes,

I'm quite ridiculous!

I've been racking my brains

to get you on the pedigree,

but it turns out

that you're actually

the head of Longquan Trading Firm,

controlling half the wealth in the capital.

I didn't mean

to hide that from you.

I just didn't see the need

to tell you.

Yeah,

and then you and your manager

put on a show together,

deliberately giving me the shop.

I must have been a fool

in your eyes, right?

No.

I know you were worried about me.

You were afraid I might be in danger.

But sometimes one just can't

have their cake and eat it.

I couldn't stand by

and watch my senior

get killed.

I couldn't stand by

and watch you get killed either!

When I brought down

Lady Qiao,

what did you say to me?

You said I acted without considering the consequences

and should protect myself.

You said I stopped at nothing to achieve my goal

and one day

would inevitably hurt myself.

What about you?

Have you protected yourself?

Have you thought things through?

You even asked me

to live a happy life without you.

How can I live a happy life?

Do you think I can still

enjoy eating loquat cake

and watching ginkgo leaves like before?

Am I so indifferent in your eyes?

I was wrong.

I didn't tell you

because I didn't want you to get involved.

But no matter what,

I was wrong.

I'm afraid

it's already too late.

You're my brother.

We're bound to be involved in each other's whole lives.

♫You're like a poetic song♫

Forget it.

From now on,

let there be no more secrets between us.

♫One intersection is engraved in my heart♫

♫Among all the people, I'm only impressed by you♫

♫I'll carry out this reckless love and stick to my word for life♫

Then can you

tell me

about what happened between you and Lu Jiaxue?

♫Time slips away through a series of unfortunate events♫

♫Sprinkled in memory, forever unblemished♫

♫If, if it's just you and me, if we stick together through thick and thin♫

♫The fall of snow would signify our journey into old age together♫

♫You're like a poetic song♫
