Scotty and Owen, you guys, you've taken out a lot of wins.

You've also taken out a lot of immunity wins.

Two successful builds lie between right now

and taking out the title of Lego Masters and 100 grand.

How are you feeling?

I don't know. We typically haven't done well in eliminations

but hopefully, we'll do alright.

So, you've obviously done well enough to make the final four.

Sarah and Fleur, how are you guys going

with what, let's be honest, is a huge amount of pressure?

We're just excited to be here. Yeah.

We didn't think we'd get to the final four,

so being here is just amazing.

He's a big fan of Lego.

He will not believe that Mummy is in finals week.

and I think his little brain is going to fly out of his head

and it's going to go...

Behind us we have 400 kg of Lego tree.

Today's build is called 'Out on a limb'.

Each team will be responsible for their own limb.

Wow.

The limbs slide off the tree.

You'll be able to take these limbs back to your benches

and build something incredible

that belongs on that limb on that tree.

Whatever it is, up to you.

Brickman, this challenge could go anywhere.

So, a queen bee who's sitting here...

On a swing.

I think it's better if she's on a throne than on a swing.

And she'd have like a big fat body and little legs.

This is definitely up our alley.

It's about storytelling.

So, if you want to start doing the chair,

I'll work on at least the head.

So, the story is that the queen bee is sitting on a throne,

commanding a group of worker bees.

This is a really good opportunity to bring comedy.

I think you will make her look amazing.

Hopefully.

We are trying to get to the final

and the other three teams are the most technically skilled

of the entire group of builders.

SARAH: Exactly.

FLEUR: But the story is really important

and we like to creatively think outside the box,

so it should be a fun one for us.

At this point of the competition, we have to play to our strengths,

so we are going to hit our mini fig and we're going to hit our tszuj.

Get some mini figs sorted,

maybe have a look at how you can do an Elvish house.

Oh, yeah.

And just get one little house and get the style down.

OK, I can work on that house.

We are building an Elvish village out on a limb.

And evil spiders have come up the tree

and are attacking the village,

and if we can absolutely nail this,

this is our ticket, this is the golden ticket to the granny.

We want this to have a few buildings in the scene,

to feel more like a city than a town,

so to get that sprawling city vibe out of our Elvish village,

I reckon we need like a nice couple of extra branches.

I'm trying to keep lots of overlapping bricks

and getting enough strength

so that you can kind of put a lot of weight on that

and it's not gonna snap.

If we can smash them out quickly, it will give us more time

to get onto the detail because ten hours is not a lot.

You've built more tree quite quickly.

Yeah.

I don't know. I don't want to jinx anything

but building another branch out,

is it as stable as the initial branch?

Yeah. How much can it hold?

Building another limb out of Lego,

the risk is obviously that it doesn't hold the weight

of our Elvish village and it comes crashing to the floor.

We really feel now that we need to prove to ourselves

and to Brickman that we deserve to be in the finale.

I'm quite passionate about building creatures,

so we're building a big tiger today that's going to live on our branch.

The story we're telling here is just on the expression

and the pose of the tiger, that's it.

The face probably in general is what's going to sell it.

So, we want to make sure that the tiger is 'purrrfect'.

David and Gus, hello.

Hey, Brickman. How's it going?

I've got the feeling that we are

in somebody's favourite area at the moment, Gus.

We are building a creature. Hey!

Finals week, don't want to take too many big risks.

We want to take a big risk within our comfort zone, essentially.

I really love colour. I love the bright, poppy, orange colour

that you've chosen by going a tiger but making it have emotion.

And I am tasked with the job

of creating the ropes to hang our tyre.

What element of your build do you reckon

is where you're going for that risk?

We want her to be actually swinging.

So, we want the tyre to be moving.

She's going to be motorised?

I absolutely love working with motors and all the Technic stuff.

We're actually going to use pendulum motions on the swing.

Do you have fond memories of a tyre swing?

I do. Yeah, we used to have a tyre swing in our front yard

when I was a kid... Did you really?

Did your tyre swing fill up with a lot of water and have...

Lots of mosquito larvae. ..gross water in it?

Alright, let's go through the builds.

(GROANS) So frustrating.

I know. It's alright.

First of all, Gabby and Ryan, are they the highest branch,

and so they've decided we're going to go a big tyre swing,

to have a girl swinging like that.

It seems like a complicated mechanism to get right.

BRICKMAN: A very hard thing to do.

That kind of mechanism requires a lot of trial and error.

Far out. This is going to...

This is going to hurt our brains. Yeah.

David and Gus.

BRICKMAN: They have been known as the character people.

The animal guys. That's right.

GUS: I wonder if this build will beat the fox for me?

BRICKMAN: I have no doubt that they'll make it look like a tiger

but it's about the pose

and you've got to get the emotion right on the face.

Is it relaxed in the tree? Is it sleeping?

Is it waiting for its prey?

We're looking for tiger vibe.

Pretty much.

I mean, last year it was all about 'Tiger King'.

This year's about tiger vibe.

Talk to me, tiger body.

What kind of emotion do you want?

So, I've built this core for the tiger's head.

Dave's just finishing off the core structure of the body

and now I'm working on the expression the tiger needs to have

because we really need to get the tiger looking like it's alive,

it's doing something, you know, it's telling a story.

What are some of the key features that like sell in this tiger?

The pose and the eyes.

If the pose or the eyes are sort of just a bit dead,

it's like it's not doing anything, it's just sitting on a tree

and it's just a stuffed toy.

Tigers are incredibly majestic creatures.

They're both scary and friendly at the same time.

Like you want to go and cuddle them

but then you're scared that they're going to rip your head off,

so we want to find that balance somehow

that this thing looks approachable but you also are cautious of it.

Come on, Gus.

And getting that expression right is almost entirely down to the eyes.

The moment the eyes are just sitting there, dull, lifeless,

whereas we want this thing to be intimidating.

We need to put some work

into making the eyes look a little bit more convincing,

you know, adjusting the brow

and put a bit of Jack Nicholson into it or something like that.

I reckon she's a Betty.

She could be a Betty.

Boss Lady Betty.

So, we're building a Queen Bee who is on a throne.

We feel it's important to give her a name.

It helps us with the concept.

Barb!

Oh, she's totally a Barbara.

She's got a barb out the back of her bee bum.

She's got a sting at the back of her. It's a barb.

We're so proud to have got this far.

and represent mums in Australia.

As a mum, you can easily lose yourself

in all the day-to-day stuff.

For us to be able to step into this creative world,

a world that is quite heavily represented by men

to be on this penultimate episode of Lego Masters

and have three females feels amazing.

I'm just worried about how to make her smile and not grimace,

and she needs nice little young girl cheeks.

So, our branch is up top and it's pretty central,

so we're building the girl on a tyre swing,

a tyre that would actually swing,

so given that that's mechanical, that's allocated to Ryan.

With the pendulum swing, it's all about getting the timing right.

Yeah.

In order for it to work, the best thing to do -

two motors driving a worm gear that then drives a cam...

..which is attached to some Technic beams

and that motion hopefully moves both arms at the same time

at the same speed.

So, the mechanism is sound in principle

but gosh, it's taken me over five hours to build this thing.

But if it works, then it was worth it.

I still have to build an entire set of legs and a torso.

Like, we don't have much in this build,

to get it from where it is now to where we'd be happy with that.

GUS: I'm pretty happy with how the tiger's expression is looking

which is a huge relief.

It means I can start helping Dave

with the other big elements of the body.

You haven't got any white jumper plates there?

You've got a whole bunch of white plates here, Dave. Mate.

I was just about to run to the brick pit to get white jumper plates.

You absolute star.

We want to have the tiger in a pose that's like crossing the paws

sitting, resting, maybe a leg or the tail hanging

and to achieve that, everything needs to be articulated.

And it's now just a matter of really sculpting that out

with bricks and plates to get it right.

I think we might need to leave this leg until we can get...

Which one?

The back one till we can drop it down and pose it properly.

The tricky thing for me this deep in the season

is the contestants, they know when I'm coming to the bench,

so they've got their guard up.

So, I need a way that I can get close to them,

hear and see what's going on without them knowing it's me.

but all these ants working together can make a big difference, man.

It's a bit of a cheat sheet.

We're going to have like little mini fig elves essentially,

so we want to build like a nice big kind of character ant,

so they can ride on

like an oversized kind of horse, essentially.

The spider's got to be bigger then.

Scary. Oh, yeah.

I think what makes a spider spooky is it's uber-long legs.

So, I just need to duplicate that a bunch of times.

It's also that ants and spiders are our medium

to get underneath the build, to create that 360 feel.

That's one thing that Brickman was really clear on

and we have to absolutely come through on that.

Scotty, what do you reckon? There?

I love those, Fleur. You're doing a really good job with them.

I'm making the worker bees and I've got to work on these faces.

What parts do I use to make them look pretty unhappy with their life?

What are the chances of there being a black sausage in here?

So, I think what would make really good mouths for the bees

would be black sausages, and turned upside down, they look pretty sad.

SARAH: They look for the depressed, which is great.

They look so depressed, these bees.

Now, it's about the positioning of the bees.

I sort of think that having them sort of in a line

in front of Barb is going to look like she's commanding them.

Sarah and Fleur. Hey, Brickman.

but if you go to bother to put in a mechanism,

it should be impressive.

So, I've got an idea.

I'll make a basic frame of a mechanism for her legs to kick.

If we can get her feet kicking nicely,

maybe the motion of the swing will seem bigger than it is

and blow his mind with it.

Obviously we've got spiders, this is the evil lair, it has to be.

We've set our battle scene.

Now we can have our bad guys, spiders, and our good guys, elves,

again but, this time, it's the bad guys' world underneath, underground.

So, our idea for this one

is to have our evil Spider King sitting on a throne.

The elves are infiltrating his realm

and they've brought the fight to him.

OK, what colour do you want the throne? I'm kinda thinking...

So, blacks and reds, everything black and red

except for the elves that are infiltrating.

I'm on board with the idea, I love it,

but we need, like, a clear distinction of how the elves get

from up there to down there 'cause they can't go the spiders' path.

We should put a portal and...

make a portal here.

No, that's ridiculous, we're not doing a portal.

So, we need, like, a portal, we need a portal, man.

I don't love the portal idea.

I'm very apprehensive about adding any extra weight to that.

We are doing the beehive underneath.

I mean, what would be under a bee but a hive,

so it makes total sense for a hive to be under there.

We just want it to be funny, don't we?

So, the hive is actually the locker room where they have their lunch,

where they pick up their broom and then they go in an elevator

from the hive up to the branch.

I love that idea because they're so lazy

that they can't even fly and they go up in the elevator.

I like that. Yeah.

At least we have the template for those bees so it doesn't take

as long when you've done five of them, six of them.

I've already done the small bees up top,

the worker bees, so it makes sense for me to build more bees.

I'm gonna run and get some black and yellow small ones.

And Sarah's building the hive,

and making some honeycomb out of Technic Beams.

This is taking ages to do this 'cause it's just fiddly.

So, we've centred on some meerkats in a burrow.

They're looking a bit scared, a bit cautious.

They're both aware of each other as a hunter-prey sort of scenario.

I can't remember what a meerkat looks like.

I don't even know what their ears look like.

I really wish I could just Google a meerkat right now.

It's a time capsule that's gonna show special objects to the child

and her family that have been buried waiting to be uncovered.

What I'm actually building is the time capsule box,

which all of the items will be sitting in off-stud.

like, it's really cautious 'cause it knows there's a tiger up there.

They look quite timid, they look quite nervous,

I'd say this tiger is close to one of the best things we've ever built.

versus where you started with the crocodile?

I think, from a story perspective, we've improved dramatically.

To now appreciate that the expression of an animal

can tell the story,

we weren't there at the beginning of the series at all.

It's almost of a standard of a Lego Masters finale.

It's almost of that standard, and we're not even there.

But here's the but.

When the twist came along, you guys froze for about half an hour.

You can't do that.

We've seen teams fall over and it's game over when that happens.

Fortunately, the meerkats is a great idea

and it plays perfectly with the story that they have together.

But, in saying that,

there are things that you've missed down in the meerkats.

You haven't quite got their poses right.

But that half an hour, you might've been able to get over the line

to get them absolutely perfect where you wanted them to be.

But, I've gotta say, an absolutely beautiful build.

What an exciting journey that has been.

I still feel like it's bending and it could go at any moment.

It's definitely on a bit of a curve.

We've got an elvish village out on a limb.

They've got the evil spiders

that have come up the tree and are attacking the village.

And to defend the village,

they're gonna take the ant stance into battle

and take down these arachnids.

And then, underground, there's the world of the Spider King,

and this time, instead of spiders infiltrating the elvish world,

we have the elves infiltrating into the spiders' world.

The portal's in.

We're 360, just massively amped with this build.

Could not be happier.

Brickman, what are your thoughts?

So, one of the things that we asked you to do was to ensure that

the story ties in between the bottom and the top, and it definitely does.

No question with the spiders, and I'm glad to see a portal in there,

I think that was a great move.

The other thing that you have done really well that I do like,

we spoke about having a 360-degree build

all the way around and you've absolutely managed to do that.

It really does encompass the huge advantage

of having a branch sticking out the middle of the air.

But this build for you guys is about contrasts.

So, let's talk about the purple bricks that are on there or,

in Lego world, it's known as medium lilac, in case you were wondering.

Yes, I've seen full lilac. It's too purple.

So, this particular Lego element hardly comes in any shapes.

To achieve that whole world

where you've rooved it and used purple

as accents and shields and the like,

that shows a great mastery of Lego elements,

so I'm a big fan of the purple.

It does, however,

highlight something which I don't like very much.

Hm.

Once we get down the bottom there, it's hard to see the difference.

There's actually too much going on there.

Yeah.

So, overall, I absolutely love your build, and I think it's fantastic.

Just went a little too far downstairs.

Now, there was a while there, Ryan, where this was gonna be,

like, hours of investment into this mechanism that didn't work.

So, I'm stoked you guys got there.

We've got a girl on a tyre swing, daydreaming

or kind of lost in her own world, surrounded by butterflies.

(GIRL'S LAUGHTER)

And there's a time capsule with special things, special objects

to the child and her family that have been buried,

waiting to be uncovered.

Look, I don't know if we've brought enough.

I like her, though, I like her. But I like her.

I think it's a sweet little story.

So, the swinging girl concept,

I absolutely love the idea, and what an amazing technical build.

This is probably the most technical build

that you've achieved on Lego Masters.

The second part of our challenge, of course,

how do you tie in a girl swinging in a tyre

somehow story-wise to underground?

I think you managed to do it,

so you get a big tick from me on that tying-in component.

I was also a little bit worried.

You're making a box that's already inside a box that's underground -

how does that actually work?

Tilting it off-stud went a long way in that direction.

What I will say, however, is,

once we've seen the girl, downstairs, underground,

there's nothing exciting about it from a technical perspective.

That's the bit that's missing here.

But I've gotta say she's great and a great technical build.

Well done.

to being in the finals, I think it would sting even more

I'm sure there's some sort of beautiful thing I could say

about how you guys have grown
