Well, why don't we start from the beginning?

[Karen] Yeah, the college put this trip together.

[Dr. Miller] All right, kids,

welcome to the Republic of Armenia.

And I just had this feeling,

(body thudding) (bus metal groaning)

(riders screaming)

like I knew something bad was gonna happen.

Hey, you guys, look, over there.

Hey, we just had an accident, we need a doctor.

(gate squealing)

(crowd hollering) (riders yelping)

So, then they force us deep into the village

into this jail cell.

My name is Sanasar. She's Demir.

[Girl] Hey, did you burn yourself?

Oh, no, it's this mark I've had since, since I was a kid.

Cheers to our first stay in our new home.

(fire roaring)

Whoa, run!

So we hear this moaning and this pleading.

Rick, stop, Rick.

Then bam!

(pensive music)

(suspenseful music)

(ominous music)

Go ahead, Cameron.

Tell us what happened after the old man grabbed Rick.

Uh, well, I, I must've blacked out or something

because next thing I know, I'm in the pit

with that dead, decaying old man

and that guard that we ran into.

How did you get in there?

Like I said, I don't know.

I don't have any memory of how I got in there.

I, I grabbed Rick's phone,

(jarring music)

and I used the light, and that's when I saw the guards.

Hey, please help me. Anyone, please, please help me.

What, what am I doing in here?

Please get me outta here.

Hey, hey what happened to Rick?

Where's Rick?

And then all these other guards started coming down,

and no one's speaking English,

and I have no idea what's going on.

And I keep asking for help, and no one's responding.

Then I guess they must have sent for Sanasar

because everyone starts freaking out,

and I still don't know why, and I'm still locked in the pit.

Listen, I appreciate your hospitality,

but what I really need is a phone.

(man speaks Armenian)

(tense music)

Hey, is, uh, is everything all right?

(men speaking Armenian)

Hey, should I be worried?

Professor Miller, for your safety,

Zhozef will take you back to the quarters.

(door hinges creaking)

And then all I hear are these loud

Whistles and horns,

like the whole village was in lockdown.

It was really creepy and scary.

(intense music)

(horns blowing)

[Dr. Miller] Hey, what's going on?

I want everyone here, now!

Hey, what's going on? (Karen screams)

(suspenseful music)

Then what?

And then the main guard, Zhozef,

he shows up and gets us all up

and starts going through our stuff.

(Zhozef speaks Armenian)

What is happening? What's going on?

What, Professor, what is happening?

I don't know, I don't know.

(Zhozef speaks Armenian)

What are you doing?

Stop it. Stop throwing our stuff on the ground.

Hey, stop that.

It's not even necessary.

What are you looking for?

I need all your passports now!

Why is that? All right, stop, listen.

The passports are in my bag.

[Zhozef] Which one?

And he's shouting at us,

and he demands to see our passports.

They were both with us at the canteen place,

and then we thought they left right after us.

Um, I guess they knew where I was,

but they didn't know where Rick was.

[Agent Reynolds] So where was he?

I had no idea.

(people whispering indistinctly)

I was just locked in this pit, and Rick was gone.

I thought they had done something to him.

Look, this whole thing is so messed up.

First, we see them burning that guy

that we hit with our bus,

and then we're getting chased, and I run into that guy,

and then I'm locked in the pit with a dead old man.

(ominous music)

(Cameron panting)

And then the guard wakes up, and he starts going crazy.

(guard speaking Armenian)

Hey, hey, hey, no, no, no.

What are you two talking about?

And then I start freaking out,

and my asthma starts to kick in.

So you have asthma?

Yeah, and I didn't have my inhaler.

Okay, so what happened next?

Please, please understand, this was an accident, okay?

This was a big mistake, okay?

Do you understand?

This, this was all a really,

this was all a really big mistake, okay? (panting)

(guard speaking Armenian)

Oh God, (panting) I need, I need my inhaler,

my asthma, my asthma medicine.

It's in the room, okay? (panting) Please, please.

(intense music)

So now it's morning, and we still don't know anything,

and I remember waking up in this weird trancelike state.

I remember dreaming about what was about to happen,

the bad things that were about to happen.

(Karen moaning)

Karen, wake up!

(gasps) Sorry.

Jeez, what's wrong with you?

I don't know. Usually that never happens to me.

Yeah, well, usually you're not sleeping

on a dirty mattress in a village full of weirdos, right?

Yeah.

So we were looking out the window,

and we see this Demir lady coming

with the girl from the canteen.

And they were bringing food,

and they didn't have a lot of information.

They just had this weird story about the guys

being infected with some disease.

[Dr. Miller] What else do you want from us?

We brought some water and something to eat for you.

Yeah, that's great.

I wanna know where my other two students are.

I don't mean to be rude,

but you need to take me where they are.

I understand, but that's not possible at this time.

Wait, what do you mean? What do you mean?

Explain what's going on right now.

(suspenseful music)

One of your students, he came in contact

with something very bad, like a disease.

It's very high, um, how do you say it?

[Melek] Contagious.

I don't know why, but I started packing up

Rick and Cameron's things.

I think I really thought

that we were about to leave this place.

(intense music)

Food's good. I'm just not really hungry.

I mean, what kind of disease is this?

I mean, what kind of disease would you have to keep here

with such high walls and guards everywhere?

Maybe, maybe it's some kind of biological

or chemical warfare left over from the Cold War?

I don't, I don't understand.

Why would they live here then?

None of that makes sense.

It's like living next to a nuclear reactor.

How do we know we haven't caught this infection?

Guys, honestly, I think they're just being paranoid.

I don't even think this virus exists.

In any case, we need to get out of here.

with Cameron and Rick, and then we can just leave.

So we're basically locked up in the stable,

and we hear a noise.

So Melek shows up, and I asked her to go get my inhaler.

Melek?

Yeah, she's, uh, she's the girl from the canteen.

What is wrong?

(coughs) I need my, my asthma medicine.

It's, it's where you brought us yesterday.

[Melek] Medicine?

(Cameron coughing) Like, my inhaler.

Wait, so the guards, like, cornered you guys,

and you just ran off in different directions?

They're crazy. They worship the devil or something.

He's been quarantined somewhere.

And they say you've got some sort of infection.

And, and one of the guards with a spear, he found him,

and, and he tried to get away.

He wanted to run. It just

[Rick] Why would I lie about that?

Vicki, I just saw my best friend

get murdered with a spear.

something is very dangerous in our village now,

something, what we got here for a long time.

Didn't you find it odd that Rick found a secret way

out of the village?

I did. It was all weird.

I just figured he had been wandering the night before

and found this secret passage that he told us about.

I mean, what, what do you want me to say?

I just believed him.

(ominous music)

Well, the crazy guard Zhozef, he came,

and he started confronting the guard in the pit.

(ominous music)

And they were arguing, and the next thing I know,

he grabs his spear, and he stabs him to death.

All right, so you witnessed a murder?

Yes, right in front of me.

Then he grabbed another spear,

and I could tell he was gonna kill me next.

(suspenseful music) (Cameron panting)

Oh my god, oh my god.

No, no, no. Oh my, oh my, oh. (panting)

(ominous music)

Oh, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, please, no!

No, no, please, no! Oh, please.

(jarring music)

(eerie music)

(spear thwaps) (Karen screams)

And where was the professor during this time?

He was with Sanasar,

trying to figure out what was going on,

where his two students were,

and how to get us out of there.

(intense music)

This place, this village is unique.

In Tanrim, we all sworn devote our lives

to keep world safe.

(suspenseful music)

Okay, Vicki, uh, you were at the stables

when Melek, the girl from the canteen, showed up.

Yeah.

So what did she want?

[Melek] He said he needs his medicine, medicine.

Rick, he was here a minute ago,

and he tried to get us to leave.

And then he took some of the others

and told us Cameron was dead.

So where did they go?

(intense music)

(vocalists chanting in foreign language)

(spear thwaps) (Karen Screams)

(horns blaring)

(suspenseful music)

(Cameron panting)

(Zhozef speaks Armenian)

The guy was definitely going to kill me.

I was sure of it.

And then those horns sounded again,

and that's the only reason why he left.

Okay, I saw in his eyes, he so badly wanted to kill me.

Why do you think he'd wanna kill you?

I mean, what could you have done?

We didn't do anything, okay?

We, we were just there. We were in his village.

You know, we were outsiders.

(jarring music)

(eerie music)

Like, as soon as they realized

that Rick had taken the others to escape,

it was like fullon high alert.

There was whistles and, and horns.

(jarring music)

They alerted the whole village.

(jarring music)

(whistle trilling)

[Vicki] What's going on?

Just stay here, and do not trust anyone.

Don't touch anyone, okay?

What, why?

He's trying to leave the village.

He's not your friend now.

Please, just stay here.

Wait, where are you going? Melek!

(whistle trilling)

What's that whistle sound?

(whistle trilling)

(ominous music) (whistle trilling)

What are we supposed to do now, huh, Rick?

This, this is your big plan? You're so full of it.

Shut up! Just trust me.

Get ready to jump. (whistle trilling)

(suspenseful music)

[Karen] Sarah, come on, you could do this.

Go, we have to move!

We can't just leave them behind.

No, I'll take care of them. You just go.

I will follow you, I promise.

Sarah, you have to jump. The guards are coming!

I'll hold them off as long as I can. You can do this!

(Sarah screams)

Okay, so you're following Rick over the wall,

about to get into the village, then what happened?

Rick, what you doing? Help me!

Sarah, hold on, I'm coming.

Help me! (panting)

Goodbye, Sarah.

No! (screams)

No! Sarah! (sobbing)

And you saw this.

No, not technically.

But you're sure that it wasn't an accident?

And you're sure it was Rick

and not the other boy, Houston?

100%, it was him.

So you're sure it was him.

He killed her. He killed her in cold blood.

(ominous music)
