And those three junior Super Friends...

Wendy, Marvin and Wonder Dog.

Their mission, to fight injustice

to right that which is wrong

and to serve all mankind.

[instrumental music]

(male narrator) At Cape Courageous, America's 20th manned launch

to the moon is ready for blastoff.

Mission Control to Hermes 20.

All systems are go.

We continue the count at 15, 14, 13, 12, 11..

(male narrator) At the Hall of the Justice League

the Super Friends are gathered to watch

this exciting launch into space.

(male #1) 'Eight, seven, six..'

Unless my memory fails me..

And it never has, to my memory.

This is the first time in the history

of space exploration that we've not had

to hold the countdown.

(male #1) 'Five, four..'

Hey, everybody, this is it.

(male #1) 'Two, one, blastoff.'

[rumbling]

'We have a lift-off.'

Come on. Come on, you can do it.

[barking]

It's going to make it. It's going to make it.

That was one of the smoothest blastoffs I've ever seen.

- What do you think, chum? - Amazing, Batman.

(male narrator) Meanwhile, back at Mission Control..

Mission Control to Hermes 20.

All systems are go. Stand by for moon trajectory.

[device beeping]

All systems A-okay.

(male #1) 'Roger. Execute final correction.'

Perfect. I couldn't have done better myself.

(male #1) 'Everything right on the button--'

- The picture. - Why, it went blank.

What happened? Where's the picture?

Probably just some atmospheric interference.

I'm sure the picture will return any second.

(male narrator) The tracking of the space launch

has also disappeared.

It looks like serious trouble.

Suddenly, the missile breaks from its orbital path

and rockets back toward Earth.

Survival following impact such as this

would appear impossible.

Yet, the astronauts have survived.

I have a feeling about this.

Something unusual must have happened.

We're getting a CDQ from the SDI.

Super Friends, moments ago

Hermes 20, having just attained moon trajectory

suddenly plunged earthward and crashed.

'My men on the scene have just radioed me'

'that no one could have survived.'

But our astronauts are missing.

I repeat, missing.

- But it can't be. - Impossible.

Unbelievable.

(male narrator) In less than one hour

the Super Friends and Colonel Wilcox

are at the scene of the crash.

Maybe something happened inside the vehicle

that we don't know about.

I don't think so.

Mission Control is locked in electronically

to every wire, button and light in that capsule.

If anything went wrong, they'd be the first to know.

Holy bolts from the blue. Look what I found.

'A tape recorder.'

(Batman) 'Every communication to and from the capsule'

'is recorded on that machine.

Play it, Robin. Maybe we'll get some answers.

(Dr. Rebos on recorder) 'This is Dr. Rebos.'

You are all witness to my great powers.

'Now, I warn you, all space exploration must stop'

'or you will suffer the consequences.'

Dr. Rebos? Hmm.

I wonder if he knows about the upcoming top-secret Venus probe.

(Dr. Rebos on recorder) 'Furthermore, your top-secret Venus probe will be next.'

Super Friends, if you'll excuse me

I must contact the space installation immediately

and put them on the alert.

I'd feel a lot more secure if we were there.

I couldn't agree with you more, Aquaman.

The fact that Dr. Rebos has chosen

to destroy our Venus probe is quite convenient.

Holy misnomers. Why convenient?

Because Clark Kent has just been given an assignment

to do a television report on the Venus space probe.

And while Clark Kent gets that story

Superman will guard that operation?

Exactly.

Super fantastic, Superman.

I've never been to a space installation before.

Neither have I.

It's a good thing we got top-secret clearance.

Now, while I get my story, you kids

and Wonder Dog can look around the place and have fun.

Maybe you can do a term paper on it.

[Clark laughs]

Uh, Clark Kent of the Galaxy Broadcasting System.

Uh, here's my top-secret pass.

[grunting]

[whimpers]

This, of course, is the brain center

of any space-launching operation.

'If there were going to be any sabotage'

'this would be the likely place.'

(Clark) 'What about, uh, security precautions?'

Airtight. Guards all around the installation.

And of course, our alarm system is the best in the world.

Finally, our closed-circuit-TV scanning cameras

keep a watchful eye on every corner of the installation.

Well, it certainly looks as if you've got everything covered.

Everything, even if Superman were standing guard

we couldn't be better protected.

Okay, Loco, when I count to three

we put on our disguises.

One, two, three.

[laughs]

Well, why didn't you put on your disguise?

I wasn't sure, Dr. Rebos, that three came after two.

I always thought it came before four.

Never mind. Just put on your disguise.

And now to disguise the car.

[laughs]

[tires screech]

You're Wonder Dog, aren't you?

Nobody could mistake your princely head

your finely chiseled nose, your stubby tail.

[laughs]

'Quickly, Wonder Dog, let's have a shot of your best profile.'

[grunts]

Say, "Dog food."

[grunts]

'Now a shot of the other best profile.'

One more, Wonder Dog. This one of your best full face.

Is that his best full face, master?

Dumb-dumb, of course that's his best full face.

If he had another face, do you think he'd wear that one?

[grunts]

Okay, Loco, give him the award and we'll get out of here.

[grunts]

There's no reason to get upset.

I'll cross out "cat" and write "dog" over it.

(male narrator) The laboratory of Dr. Rebos

disguised as an auto-wrecking plant.

Inside, the doctor and his assistant, Loco

develop the pictures they took of Wonder Dog.

That's it. That's the last one. Lights.

How did my picture of Wonder Dog turn out?

(Dr. Rebos) 'Great. It looks just like him. Here, save it.'

Maybe next year you can enter it in the Dog of the Year contest.

(male narrator) Little by little, Dr. Rebos' plan begins to unfold.

Somehow, someway, androids

robots that look and act like people

play a part in his diabolical scheme.

It becomes possible to understand

how two astronauts could have escaped that terrible crash.

They were androids.

- 'Body.' - 'Body.'

- 'Head.' - 'Head.'

- Wrench. - Wrench.

- Screwdriver. - Screwdriver.

- 'Leg.' - 'Leg.'

- 'Leg.' - 'I just gave you a leg.'

Dumb-dumb, I'm not making a pogo stick.

I mean another leg.

The assembly is a complete success.

You know, Dr. Rebos, I've seen that dog before.

we are about to pass the world-famous

Cape Courageous Space Installation

where in moments the scheduled Venus probe

will be sabotaged.

[applause]

Ladies and gentlemen androids, how about a big smile

and a wave to the guards as we go by?

Hello again, Wonder Dog.

(male narrator) Having fooled the guards and the workers

the Wonder Dog android is now free

to enter the top-secret room

and complete his mission.

But one more button

and the sabotage of the Venus probe

will be an accomplished fact.

That is the famous "Don't Press" button.

[crackling]

You, sir, are a traitor.

'A traitor to your Super Friends'

'and a traitor to your country.'

Colonel, those are very serious charges.

Batman, single-handedly

that dog has sabotaged our Venus probe.

[grunting]

But, Colonel Wilcox, Wonder Dog

is the most loyal dog in the world.

Loyal to whom? Us or the enemy?

He couldn't have done it.

I'll bet a year's allowance on it.

Wonder Dog was seen at 0900

entering the top-secret control room

by countless workers.

'And right after that'

'the computers and panels went up in smoke.'

Holy airtight evidence, Batman.

It does look bad for Wonder Dog.

There must be another explanation, colonel.

(Wilcox) 'There is no other possible explanation.'

'Wonder Dog is a double agent.'

- No. - He couldn't be.

How much dog food did it take to buy you off?

- None. - See?

He admits to doing it for nothing.

I'm sorry, Colonel Wilcox

but even in the face of your proof

we still believe that Wonder Dog is innocent.

In time, I know we'll get to the bottom of this.

We've just received a threatening call

from Dr. Rebos, which we've taped.

- Let's hear it, colonel. - We will.

Just as soon as that double agent leaves the room.

He knows too much as it is.

[whimpers]

Just a second, Wonder Dog. We're going with you.

Alright, Super Friends, listen to this.

(Dr. Rebos on recorder) 'Super Friends, you have disregarded my warning'

'and so I had to sabotage your Venus probe.'

Do you suppose he knows about

the upcoming manned launch to Mars?

(Dr. Rebos) 'Your upcoming manned launch to Mars is next.'

Holy countdowns, if that's sabotaged

our nearly completed space station

on Mars will be in jeopardy.

(Dr. Rebos on recorder) 'Unless you call a complete halt'

'to your space program forever.'

Of all the dirty, low-down--

(Dr. Rebos on recorder) 'This is not dirty and low-down.'

- 'My reasons are--' - 'Excuse me.'

(Operator) 'Five cents for the next three minutes, please.'

(Dr. Rebos) 'Uh, I-I don't have any more change.'

(Operator) 'Sorry, then we will have to discontinue your call.'

Well Super Friends, we certainly have our work cut out for us.

Lucky he pinpointed his next target.

We'd have learned a lot more if he'd made that call collect.

(Wilcox) 'Gentlemen and Wonder Woman'

tomorrow the Mars missile engine will be tested.

If anything happens to it, our space program

will have been dealt a serious blow.

Rest assured, colonel

the Super Friends are at your service.

This is a diagram of our space station on Mars.

'Here is the space lab, which will house'

'five astronauts when completed.'

'And over here will be a launching pad'

'designed for further probes deeper into the universe.'

If tomorrow's testing of the Mars missile engine

is successful, we will be able to complete

the space station within the year. An questions?

Holy remote controls.

Look, the tape machine has started all by itself.

(Dr. Rebos on recorder) 'Alright, operator, I got some change at the candy store.'

(Operator) 'Thank you, sir. Please continue your call.'

(Dr. Rebos) 'Now, where was I? Oh, yes.'

[Dr. Rebos laughs] 'You will never get to test your Mars missile engine.'

'I, Dr. Rebos, promise you that.'

I don't believe it.

Wendy, let's put all the evidence together.

The guards say Wonder Dog passed through the gate.

And Colonel Wilcox says the plant workers saw Wonder Dog

go into the top-secret control room

just before the explosion.

And Wonder Dog says it wasn't he.

Yeah. Yeah.

(Marvin) Hmm. It's all very complicated.

Let's do it scientifically, Marvin.

Now, what time was he supposed to have been seen

at the space installation?

At 0900 hours.

Well, at 0700, Wonder Dog was sleeping.

I know that because his snoring woke me up.

And at 0800 he had breakfast.

I know that because I went out to buy him the pizza.

And at 0900 he was still in the house

because of a stomachache from eating the pizza too fast.

I know that because I gave him the medicine

to settle his stomach.

Then it couldn't have been Wonder Dog

at the space installation.

And if it wasn't Wonder Dog

'it must have been a dog who looked just like him.'

- Yeah. - A double.

I knew I'd come up with the answer.

All we have to do to prove Wonder Dog's innocence

is find the other dog.

- That's easy for you to say. - And easy for Wonder Dog to do.

He just has to follow his own scent

and he'll lead us right to the double.

Yeah.

[sniffling]

(male narrator) High overhead, soaring toward the space installation

is Superman, and joining Superman

to protect the Mars missile engine

are Wonder Woman and Aquaman.

As the plane passes the space installation

Aquaman prepares to jump.

Hold her steady, Wonder Woman. Look out below!

(male narrator) The instant he hits the water

Aquaman sends out telepathic waves to his undersea world.

The small fish, all of whom are his friends

stop foraging for food

and, following Aquaman's instructions

begin gathering seaweed.

The swordfish come to Aquaman's aid.

With seaweed for thread

the swordfish perform as huge needles.

A net is quickly woven, nature's barrier

protecting the space installation

from invasion by sea.

Robin stands guard duty at one end of the space installation.

Batman takes a position at the other end.

With the Super Friends on guard

the space installation appears to be impregnable.

[Wonder Dog sniffing]

How you doing, Wonder Dog?

[grunts]

This is gonna be tougher than we thought.

Try harder, Wonder Dog. We've got to find your double.

That's the only clue we have.

[sniffing]

You know something? I've seen that movie before. Weird.

Marvin, this is no time for a movie review.

I'm referring to the theater.

This is the second time we've passed it.

You mean we've been going around in circles?

[grunts]

[barking]

(Wendy) I think he's got it.

Hey, Wonder Dog, wait for us!

[barking]

[growls]

[panting]

Wonder Dog. What happened?

[grunting]

Y-you found your double? And you fought him?

[barking]

(Wendy) 'And you won?'

[grunts]

Well, he couldn't have gotten far.

Which way did he go?

[grunting]

[barking]

Marvin, he's chasing that car.

Just another false alarm, Wendy.

I'm sure his double isn't driving it.

We just can't take any chances.

Come on, let's go after him, before we lose him.

(male narrator) But Wonder Dog, in his excitement to clear his name

has run too far and too fast for his friends to keep up.

I'm almost sure I saw him go in here.

Gosh, Marvin, look at all this junk.

I wouldn't give two cents for the whole lot.

No, I thought you said something.

This is Loco. Agent Number 6-5-7-8-3-2-7-8-3-2--

(Dr. Rebos) 'Stop with the numbers already. What do you want, Loco?'

- Please, I just have one more. - 'Alright, give it to me.'

- Six! - 'Now what do you want?'

Two trespassers are trespassing.

(Dr. Rebos) 'Thank you for the information, Loco.'

Okay, signing off, this is 6-5-7-8-9-3-2, uh..

Wendy, look. There he is.

Wonder Dog, where did you go? We lost you.

Did you find your double?

[grunts]

- There he goes again. - Come on.

[grunting]

[sniffing]

Good work, Wonder Dog. Let's get him, Marvin.

[laughing]

Now we've got you.

[whimpers]

Listen, double, don't give us

any of those double looks.

Huh? Huh?

And none of that double talk either.

[whimpers]

Well, that's not what he says.

Huh?

[grunts]

Marvin, we've been taken.

The dog we though was Wonder Dog

was the double all the time.

(male narrator) Meanwhile, at the space station

the Super Friends remain ever vigilant.

(Dr. Rebos on announcer) 'This is Dr. Rebos.'

'If the coast is clear'

'proceed now through the protective net'

'and sabotage the Mars missile engine.'

[Rebos laughing]

[dramatic music]

[submarine crashes]

(male narrator) The Super Friends continue to frustrate

Dr. Rebos' every effort

to sabotage the Mars missile engine.

But wait.

[laughs]

Now, the right exposure and the right focus.

Ah, perfect.

(male #1) The countdown of the Mars missile-engine test

will now continue at five

'four, three, two, one, ignition.'

(male narrator) The testing of the Mars missile-engine

goes off without a hitch.

Dr. Rebos' attempt to sabotage

the space program has been prevented.

Gentlemen, I've just been in contact with Colonel Wilcox.

He extends his heartfelt appreciation

for everything the Super Friends have done.

Mollifying modesty, Batman. It was nothing.

On the contrary, Robin.

Testing that engine was everything.

It was the last step in our effort

to complete our Mars space laboratory.

Oh, Wonder Woman. This is a top-secret meeting.

Have your visitors been cleared with Colonel Wilcox?

These aren't visitors, Aquaman, they're prisoners.

I captured them in an attempt

to sabotage the Mars missile engine.

Good work, Wonder Woman.

Maybe now, we'll get to the bottom of this.

Alright. Your names?

Are you working for a foreign government?

- Pilot One. - Pilot Two.

They sure talk strangely, Batman.

Their speech isn't the only thing that's strange, Robin.

There's something about them I just can't put my finger on.

Who is behind this plot to destroy our space program?

- Pilot One. - Pilot Two..

- What happened? - Are they dead?

They can't be dead, because they never were alive.

- Holy androids. - Exactly, Robin.

Androids. Man-made and man-controlled.

Super Friends, we are up against a diabolical power.

This may very well be our supreme test.

I can't understand it.

That car Wonder Dog followed just disappeared.

And then that Wonder Dog double showed up.

Maybe there's a connection between the two.

- 'Powerful arm.' - 'Powerful arm.'

- 'Super chest.' - 'Super chest.'

Ah, Loco.

[laughs]

No matter what anybody tells you

there's nothing as satisfying as being creative.

Dr. Rebos, you've done it.

You've created the most powerful force in the world.

[laughs]

I only hope, Loco, I won't have to use him.

Maybe the Super Friends will come to their senses.

Friends, the Mars missile launching will take place today

at 12 noon. Nothing must go wrong. I repeat: Nothing must--

[zapping]

Super Friends, this is Dr. Rebos.

Holy face jobs, Batman. What happened?

We'll know in a moment.

Abandon the Mars launching.

Leave outer space alone.

I will not be responsible for the consequences.

[laughing]

Dr. Rebos, wait. Why are you doing this?

...and I am confident that with the Super Friends on the job

'the Mars missile launching will go off on schedule.'

Colonel Wilcox didn't even know he was cut off.

(male narrator) Meanwhile, plans for the Mars launch

proceed according to schedule

as the gantry crane moves the great missile

onto its launching pad.

Stand by to begin the countdown.

(male narrator) Nearby, the Super Friends are on the job.

If Dr. Rebos tries to make good his threat

to sabotage the launch

his task will not be an easy one.

[laughs] Okay, Loco, when I count to three..

proves completely effective

and an urgent meeting is convened.

I just can't understand it.

Each access to the space installation

was covered by one of us.

Holy security, Batman. It's all very confusing.

Confusing isn't the word for it, Robin.

Superman, the workers say that they saw you

go into the master control room

just before everything went dead.

If they said that, they were mistaken.

Funny, that's what they said about Wonder Dog

when the Venus probe was sabotaged.

And Wonder Dog claimed he was innocent too.

Maybe Superman did not go in there.

Holy positive identification, Batman.

The workers swear they saw him.

Was it Superman or was it his double?

A double? Of course. It all makes sense.

Wonder Dog didn't sabotage the Venus probe.

- It was his double. - An android double.

And the real Superman is probably being held prisoner.

Weakened, no doubt, by kryptonite.

We could have solved the whole mystery

and we let him go.

Not really, Robin.

As an android, a pseudo-being that Superman

would have gone lifeless on us just like those two.

- The one we want is Dr. Rebos. - And we haven't a clue.

How can you think of food when our whole

space program is in jeopardy?

Robin, there was only one stranger in the area.

That was the man who drove the catering truck

and who sold me the chicken soup.

(male narrator) Still searching for the canine impostor

Wonder Dog and the junior Super Friends return

to the junkyard building

where they first saw him.

- Gotcha! - Who are you?

(Loco) 'I'm Loco.'

[Loco laughs]

Are you really Loco, or are you Loco's double?

Well, I always thought I was Loco.

Dr. Rebos always calls me Loco.

Marvin, he said Dr. Rebos.

That's the name of the man who's been threatening

to destroy our space program.

That's right, Wendy.

Now we're really getting somewhere.

(Loco) 'Would you like to meet Dr. Rebos?'

Uh, yeah. We sure would.

[laughs] And I'm sure he'd like to meet you too.

Follow me.

'Excuse the interruption, master'

'but look what I found sneaking into the factory.'

- Who are they? - They are..

Uh, I don't know who they are.

- Uh, who are you? - I'm Wendy, and he's Marvin.

[Wonder Dog barks]

[laughs] I thought it was you, Wonder Dog.

Wow. Super surprises. Look at all the doubles.

'There's Superman. And Wonder Dog.'

(Marvin) 'And the two astronauts. But none of them look alive.'

[laughs] They're not. I made them.

of dollars to fly to the moon

just to collect a-a few measly rocks

and a bag full of moon dust.

That's not true.

Our exploration of the moon has been of great help

to science and medicine.

Not to mention the thousands of jobs

created by our space program.

(Dr. Rebos) It's a question of

what's more important.

And I think it's more important

to spend the money first on Earth

and then in space.

But money is being spent on the sick and poor.

There are all kinds of health and welfare programs.

Not enough to suit me.

By sabotaging the space program

I'll bring the people responsible to their senses.

[Dr. Rebos laughs] 'Come, Loco.'

'Help me prepare my Superman android for his next mission.'

(male narrator) And while Dr. Rebos gives his Superman android

the electrical charge that will take him to Mars and back again

Wendy, Marvin and Wonder Dog are held prisoners.

That Rebos must think we're six years old.

Oh, Marvin, we've just got to get word to the Super Friends.

That's gonna be tough with him there.

Android, Wonder Dog is hungry.

'But that's people food. Wonder Dog needs dog food.'

(Marvin) 'What kind of a dog are you who wouldn't help a fellow dog?'

[whimpers]

Okay, Wendy, we've got him out of the room.

Wowee. It's an android-assembling kit.

(Wendy) 'It looks just like the one Dr. Rebos has'

in his laboratory, only for kids.

- What will we make? - There's no time to explain.

the Superfriends meet to discuss a plan of action.

Super Friends, we're up against a diabolical brain

that can create confusion by duplicating any one of us.

Super Friends, we found him. We found Dr. Rebos.

But we've got to stop him. He plans to..

in an unlawful manner.

(male narrator) Meanwhile, on the barren, bleak surface of Mars

the Superman android lands.

His mission, destroy the Mars space station.

Before you tangle with that wall

until you run out of juice.

(male narrator) In Rebos' lab, the moment one android

is put out of commission, another takes his place.

- Master, how will it all end? - I don't know, Loco.

Marvin, are you thinking what I'm thinking?

I think so. Power off.

[grunting]

[mutters]

Good thinking, junior Super Friends.

The important thing to remember, Dr. Rebos

is that if you're dissatisfied

with the way things are

there are lawful ways to bring about change.

(Robin) 'That's right, through the courts'

'or through the politicians we elect to office.'

- 'And writing to newspapers.' - 'And how about broadcasting?'

(Marvin) 'Get them interested and they'll get'

'the people to think about things.'

What a shame, Dr. Rebos.

You're obviously a brilliant man.

If only you had used your knowledge

to build rather than to destroy.

If I had another chance

I promise I would do things differently.

And I'll pay for any damage I've caused.

Don't you think he ought to get another chance?

but it will be up to them.
