And those three junior Super Friends

Wendy, Marvin and Wonder Dog.

Their mission, to fight injustice

to right that which is wrong

and to serve all mankind.

(male narrator) Mystery Mountain, an exciting challenge

to adventurous young mountain climbers

like Marvin, Wendy and Wonder Dog.

Halfway up the slope, they stop for a picnic.

Wow, this looks like a good spot.

[grunting]

They are unaware that a mysterious occurrence

is about to launch them into one of the most

exciting days of their lives.

Okay, mountain climbers, dig in.

Mmm.

(Wendy) 'Marvin, there are some cans of soda in the cooler.'

(Marvin) Sure.

Here you are, Wendy.

- Hey. - Huh?

Zonkers, for a second I couldn't get my arm down.

Those cans sailed right over the top of the mountain.

Come on, let's investigate.

On the mountaintop they discover a very strange object

a giant metallic U.

(Wendy) I know what it is. It's a magnet.

It can't be.

These metal cans don't stick to it.

Neither does my Super Friends wristband made of steel.

But if it's not a magnet, what made the cans fly up here?

[gasping]

Oh, wow.

No wonder they call this Mystery Mountain.

Let's report this to the Super Friends.

(narrator) In the Hall of the Justice League

the Super Friends listen attentively

to the report of their junior members.

It's 30 feet high and really weird-looking.

- What does it look like? - Well, uh..

- It looks like, uh, a U. - It looks like Batman?

No. It's shaped like a letter U.

Why don't we check it out, Batman?

Will do, Robin. Kids, come with us in the Bat-copter.

And show us this Mystery Mountain.

[helicopter whirring]

Huh? Where is it?

Gee, it was there a couple of hours ago, honest.

Are you sure this is the right mountain?

(Wendy) 'Absolutely. Land in the valley.'

'We'll show you where we started our climb.'

(Batman) 'Good idea.'

[whirring]

[zapping]

This is where we started out.

[Wonder Dog grunting]

(Batman) There's something up there, alright.

Robin and I will check it out.

Hey, Wendy, don't we wanna see it too?

Okay. Let's take the mountain trail.

[zapping]

Holy alphabet. There's the U.

(Batman) Let's head for it.

Something's pulling us.

We're in trouble, Robin.

(narrator) Atop Mystery Mountain

the giant U exerts a powerful magnetic force

on the helpless Bat-copter

pulling it toward the mountainside.

We're in double trouble, Batman. Look up there.

Great blazes.

(male narrator) In the sky, a huge meteor

attracted by the mighty magnet

plummets towards the helpless aircraft.

Swing away from the meteor's path. Quick, Batman.

I'm trying, Teen Wonder.

There's a little matter of a mountain in our path.

I've got this at vertical descent, full power

but it won't drop.

Missed us by inches.

[crashing]

(narrator) As the magnetic force suddenly cuts off

the Bat-copter's powerful motor sends it plummeting

toward the valley.

Holy downfalls. What happened?

No more magnetic force.

(Robin) Whoever turned off that magnet

kept us from crashing into the mountain.

(Batman) Now it's up to us

to keep from crashing into the valley.

Pull back.

Whew, they made it. That was close.

Well, let's keep climbing. I wanna see what's up there.

Wendy, Marvin, Wonder Dog, where are you?

Look, Robin, fresh footprints.

I think our young friends got curious

probably climbed the mountain.

To see what they could see?

They may see more than they can handle.

We'd better go after them.

(narrator) Atop the mountain, the trap doors open

and now a crane rises to retrieve

the treasure from the sky

a meteorite of solid gold.

The mystery unfolds.

Inside the mountaintop

the underground laboratory of the brilliant scientist

Simeon Shamon.

Carefully, he examines the meteorite

with his equally brilliant lab technician

Madame Lila Labonne.

It's gold, Madame Labonne, solid gold.

Your plan was brilliant.

Drawing the space cloud toward Earth

with your special gold-attracting magnet

then smelting the gold dust with intense heat

from the laser beam.

And then once again using the Shamon U

to bring the gold nugget down to our mountaintop.

Dr. Shamon, before we do any more sky mining

I really believe we should approach

this project more cautiously.

Cautiously, what harm can--

(Labonne) My studies show only 50 percent

of the space cloud is gold dust.

I don't know yet what the other particles are composed of.

Who cares about side effects?

Alright, men. Send up the laser gun.

[Marvin panting]

What's the big rush?

Can't we rest for a while?

[Wonder Dog grunting]

[panting]

[yelping]

(Marvin) 'Those eyes are coming closer. Come on.'

Maybe that meteorite can give us a clue

as to what's going on up here.

Robin and I are going to climb down the steep side

and look for it.

Why didn't they want us to go with them?

Marvin, you have to be an expert

to climb down that side in darkness.

Careful, Robin. This face is tricky.

(Robin) 'Holy Easter bunnies. It's just a rabbit.'

Alright, after bouncing off the summit

the meteorite should've hit the mountainside

just about there near that ledge. Let's go.

- Can you still see them? - Nope.

Golly, they never let us do the exciting stuff.

W-what, w-what's that coming up?

I think that's trouble coming up. Let's hide.

[grunting]

(Wendy) 'What is it?'

(Marvin) 'I think it's a laser gun.'

(narrator) Far away in space

Shamon's laser beam strikes a portion of the space cloud

igniting it into a brilliant white-hot fireball.

The intense heat fuses the particles of gold

into another huge nugget.

And after this mighty fusion

a mysterious mist

slowly drifts downward into the atmosphere.

There, it becomes strangely affected by the Earth's oxygen

creating exotic gases unknown to Earth's scientists

and, like our air, appears invisible to the human eye.

Look, something else is coming up.

(Wendy) 'It's the U.'

[whirring]

Hey, what..

[gasping]

The magnet's got his wristband.

Come on, Wonder Dog, he needs help.

Keep tugging, Wonder Dog. Hang in there, Marvin.

You mean, I've got a choice?

[crashing]

Why, it's another meteorite.

Yeah.

(Wendy) Marvin, this came from space.

Who'd be up there painting meteorites gold?

It's gonna take the meteorite down through the trap doors.

And there's only one way to find out.

We have visitors.

I'm sorry, but we just wanted to let you know

(Wendy) Well, that's all we wanted to tell you.

Getting out of here is a most complicated procedure.

(narrator) Halfway up the steep mountain trail

a puff of mist floats down from the sky

and a tiny rabbit becomes its first victim.

[sniffing]

[rumbling]

Holy cottontails. It must be eight feet tall.

How'd it get so big?

That's something we'll investigate

after we've investigated a way to get off this ledge.

You're right, if that hair-raising hare

ever hopped on this slab of rock--

It would snap. It's too weak to hold that kind of weight.

Great blazes, it's coming toward us.

(Robin) 'The path's our only way back'

and the rabbit's blocking it.

One more hippity-hop and he'll land on this ledge.

We gotta act fast, Batman.

Robin, use your Bat-a-rang.

From here, we can climb down to the valley.

It's our bat communicators.

(Superman over radio) 'This is Superman. Where are you?'

At Mystery Mountain, which I can assure you is well-named.

Superman, we just saw a rabbit eight feet tall.

(Superman) 'Come to the Justice League Hall immediately.'

That giant rabbit you saw is only one example

of the weird things happening all over the world.

(Superman) The Troub-Alert is going wild.

(Batman) Right, Man of Steel.

We'll be on our way as soon as we round up the kids.

(Wonder Woman) Superman, look what's happening here.

That elephant blew up like a balloon.

Great Scott!

(narrator) Far off in the African jungle

a puff of green mist has made an elephant grow

to twice his normal size.

And now a red mist descends on an unsuspecting giraffe.

Because the red and green mists

are not visible to the human eye

the Super Friends are completely baffled

by the strange phenomenon.

We must find the cause of these distortions.

(Wonder Woman) Aquaman, look what's happening underwater.

(Aquaman) Galloping guppies

that lobster must be 50 feet long.

(Wonder Woman) Those lights up ahead. Isn't that the oceanography sea lab?

Yes, if that giant lobster reaches it

and uses that monster claw, great Neptune.

(narrator) But the caped crusader

flashes his message in vain

unaware that his young friends are inside that mountain.

Look how much gold dust is left in that space cloud.

Doctor, we're dealing with strange, unidentified matter.

'For all we know, our first two sky-mining attempts'

'may already be causing serious problems in our atmosphere.'

Serious problems for others, perhaps, but not for me.

When I have finished, I'll be the richest man in the world.

(narrator) With the skillful judgment of a super pilot

Batman maneuvers the copter alongside the cable car

and rescues his friends from the stranded sky vehicle.

We'd better make sky tracks, Batman.

We wouldn't wanna get caught again by Dr. Shamon's U.

(narrator) Faster than a speeding bullet

the Man of Steel streaks through the California sky

toward the now towering orange tree.

In the orange grove

a night breeze causes the branches to sway.

And high above the farm buildings

a gigantic orange snaps its stem.

Great Scott, that farmhouse.

Just in time.

Hm, I can't spend the night here waiting for oranges to drop.

Only one way to get them all down at the same time.

Hard to get a good grip, but..

Ah, here it comes.

Say, might as well bring Wonder Woman a little gift.

Heh, I mean a big gift.

(narrator) In the darkness of the ocean's depths

the gigantic lobster foraging for food

crawls closer and closer to the sea lab.

Look at those claws.

I'd hate to see our ocean home

crushed by that crustacean.

(narrator) With the speed of a barracuda

Aquaman streaks through the water

to try to prevent an undersea catastrophe.

Moving a 50-foot lobster's going to require

some very large muscles

and I don't mean clams.

(narrator) Aquaman's telepathic SOS reaches three powerful whales

who answer his call for aid.

But at that moment, a red mist floats down

from the surface above

and lands on one of the sea pachyderms.

Okay, big boys. I have a job for you.

Tow him toward the coral reef.

Thanks, you two.

By the beard of Poseidon, what's this?

You're a whale?

A miniaturized whale?

But how? You poor thing.

Hmm, a giant lobster and a 12-inch whale.

This must not be allowed to continue.

It could ruin the ecological balance of the sea.

She may have a clue as to what's been going on.

Well, it seems something in the air

is affecting the growth mechanism of living things.

Not all creatures have been affected.

It is possible the mysterious element isn't everywhere.

We might learn something if we could examine

one of the plants or creatures that have been exposed.

Wonder Woman, your wish is my command.

Wow, that's really a whale of an orange.

(Aquaman) 'Speaking of whales'

here's one that's now something of a shrimp.

(Wendy) 'Oh, poor little whale.'

It's only 12 inches long.

That can't be a real whale.

Hmm, another victim of the unknown element.

If I could take those specimens into your lab and test them..

Certainly. I'm a trained scientist, I'll work with you.

I strongly suspect these are the aftereffects

of Dr. Shamon's sky-mining.

'I hope we can convince him.'

And it's my guess they'll climb to the summit

to try to break through the trap doors, ha, ha.

If they try that, they'll have quite a surprise.

Those heavy steel doors are locked into place.

It's impossible to open them from outside.

Ah, but how about from inside?

I'll just cool it here until Batman reaches the summit.

If this is a Yeti, it's a rare creature.

(Batman) 'Madame Labonne's theory is that the mystery element'

'was created by your sky-mining process.'

(Shamon) I'm sorry. I should've listened to her.

Very well, no more sky-mining.

I'll be satisfied with my two nuggets of gold.

W-what's happening to them?

Now we know it's not just animals and plants.

The mystery element also affects the stuff it came from

these gold nuggets.

Like I said before, what gold nuggets?

[whimpering]

(narrator) Back at their home base the caped crusaders

and the kids check the SDI screen.

Batman, let's see if Superman's moved that growing tree

from under the water tank.

Sure.

That's a switch. He didn't uproot the tree.

He moved the tank.

(narrator) Suddenly, the door of the Justice League lab bursts open.

Madame Labonne and Wonder Woman rush to the others.

(Wonder Woman) We've isolated the mystery element.

It contains some unknown gas molecules

in very strange atomic structures.

We've named it Shamonite.

There are two types, Shamonite red and Shamonite green.

The green type makes things grow.

- What do you call it? - Shamonite, Wendy.

Because our tests prove this was created

by Dr. Shamon's experiments.

Well, you won't have to worry anymore about Dr. Shamon.

- He's closed up shop. - Yes, Robin.

But that cloud is still out there in space

but too near Earth.

For safety's sake, it had better be moved away.

I'll contact Superman.

(Labonne) Then Wonder Woman and I

will go back to our lab work.

We still must find a way to neutralize the Shamonite

that's already in our atmosphere.

It can still cause a lot of trouble.

(narrator) Having received Batman's message

the Man of Steel hurtles through the night

toward the lowlands of Holland.

From an abandoned windmill, Superman borrows

an entire set of vanes

and streaks into the sky with them.

the tiny giraffe begins growing back to normal height.

Beneath the ocean's surface

the giant lobster shrinks to its proper length

and swims happily away.

Throughout the night

Superman's reflected ray of sunshine

returns the animals and the plants to their natural state.

At the Hall of the Justice League

a group peers expectantly into the night.

[Wonder Dog grunting]
