is about to test a new experimental plane.

This test-flight could be dangerous, captain.

I don't know.

Whoever it is, he's putting the plane

through all the test maneuvers.

Beautiful. The test was successful.

Now let's find out who's inside.

This plane flew the test all by itself.

What? Well, I'd better notify Washington.

(narrator) And in the hall of the Justice League

strange happenings are observed.

Look at that. No one's driving that fork-lift.

Try another emergency channel.

Wow, that tractor is plowing the field all by itself.

This sort of thing has been going on all morning.

When will the Superfriends arrive?

Sir, wherever they are, when they receive the signal

from the Troubalert..

We respond immediately.

Thank goodness. I'm Mr. Huggins.

Special assistant to the president.

We can guess why you're here, Mr. Huggins.

Weird things are happening.

'Machines operating by themselves.'

Yes. So far, no harm has been done.

But who knows what might happen?

The government would like the Justice League

to investigate these strange happenings.

Superfriends, I suggest we split up.

Each investigate a different sector.

I don't know, Robin, but I've a hunch we'll soon find out.

How do we get old ironsides to open the gate?

Well, I suppose, in a few minutes now

we'll find out what this is all about.

(narrator) Outside the hall of the Justice League

a strange vehicle makes its appearance.

Superman advised us to split up.

Hmm, which sector shall I take?

Why don't you take the sector called home?

'Remember, Batman also gave us some advice'

stay out of trouble.

[grunts]

What's your problem, Wonder Dog?

[grunts]

(Wendy) Strange. No driver.

(Goodfellow) 'Permit me to extend an invitation'

'for you to take a ride in the Funmobile.'

Where's that voice coming from?

(Wendy) I don't know. Who was driving this thing?

(Goodfellow) 'It drives by itself.'

'But don't be afraid. It's perfectly safe.'

- Who are you? - 'Professor Goodfellow.'

'Please, step inside.'

'The Funmobile will take you to your Superfriends.'

'They're waiting for you.'

-Where? - 'In my laboratory.'

'I'm going to demonstrate'

'the most fantastic invention in the world.'

'And I want them to hear the opinion'

'of some young people, like yourselves.'

- Um, what's in there? - 'All sorts of fun things.'

'Television, movies, rock albums, games.'

- Um, anything to eat? - 'Everything you like.'

Obviously, we're at Professor Goodfellow's lab.

for the little pranks I played today.

Pranks is hardly the word, professor.

You've got the whole country in a turmoil.

The government is very concerned about your little pranks.

I had to do those things

to prove to the government that the G.E.E.C. works.

The G.E.E.C.? What is that?

Aha, the world's biggest computer.

I want to donate it to the government, as a gift.

For the benefit of all people.

What does this computer do?

By remote control, the G.E.E.C. can perform every job

that is done by men and women.

'My purpose is to free mankind'

'of all physical labor, brainwork and responsibility.'

You mean, no one would have to do any work?

- That's impossible. - No, no.

(Robin) Holy brain-busters. It's gigantic.

(Goodfellow) I'll show you how it works.

This control bank operates all types of transportation

everything from bicycle to spacecraft.

Communications.

Telephones, television, everything.

The G.E.E.C. is programmed to handle all business matters.

Buying, selling, advertising, filing, typing, bookkeeping.

Fantastic.

(Goodfellow) These controls can run

every factory machine in the land.

- No need for factory workers. - Wow.

Farming, eh?

I guess the G.E.E.C. will run the tractors

and let the farmers take a rest.

They deserve it. Everybody deserves a rest.

That's why I built the G.E.E.C.

Since the beginning of time men and women

have had to work hard every day to survive.

But now, with the G.E.E.C. in control

nobody will have to work, not even housewives.

What will people do all day?

(Goodfellow) Why, just sit home in their G.E.E.C.-built houses.

Eat G.E.E.C.-prepared meals and spend the whole day

watching movies and sporting events

on their G.E.E.C. television sets.

Hm, but that means actors and athletes

will still have to do their jobs.

No, no. The actors and athletes won't be real people.

They'll be electronic images

programmed to go through the motions of a play

or a variety show, or an athletic event.

Hey, imagine.

Joe Namath can sit at home and watch himself

playing a football game that he never really played.

[chuckles] Yes, yes, exactly.

No one'll have to wear himself out doing a job of work.

The G.E.E.C. will do it all.

Well, how about us school kids, professor?

Aha, let me show you.

Every child will receive school lessons at home

on his G.E.E.C. TV.

There'll be no need for schools or teachers.

(Huggins) It's a miraculous machine, professor.

I'm greatly impressed.

(Wendy) You know something though even if I complain sometimes

about homework I really enjoy school.

I'm gonna miss going to classes, being with my school friends.

Gentlemen, I think Wendy has just made

a very important observation.

She's shown us the basic fault of the G.E.E.C.

I know you mean well, professor

but your computer can be a bad thing for people.

That's right, everybody, even young kids

should have responsibilities.

I agree, it's good for people to work

to use their brains.

If they don't, they'll have no purpose in life.

(Goodfellow) But I-I..

Mr. Huggins, the government must accept my gift.

It will be the greatest thing that happened to mankind.

Professor, I'm afraid I agree with the Superfriends.

The government will not involve itself in Project G.E.E.C.

Mm, alright, then.

I'll offer free G.E.E.C. service to the public.

can have himself a permanent coffee break.

And you can't stop me.

No, we can't. It's not against the law.

But let me remind you, professor

the G.E.E.C. is just a machine.

have subscribed to G.E.E.C servie.

It's a serious situation.

The G.E.E.C has completely changed

the lifestyle of the world.

Look out the window at what used to be a busy downtown street.

(Aquaman) Great Neptune. Where is everyone?

G.E.E.C. subscribers are all at home.

Men don't have to go to their jobs anymore.

Women don't have to go shopping.

'The good old G.E.E.C. takes care of everything.'

'Whatever they need at home is delivered'

'by these G.E.E.C. trucks. No drivers.'

(Superman) 'That truck is carrying supplies to a factory.'

'An automated factory. No workers.'

(Wendy) 'That policeman has nothing to do.'

This city used to be so alive.

Now, it's dull and monotonous.

Well, I'm glad I didn't sign up.

The G.E.E.C. people do nothing but lie around and take it easy.

Their muscles are getting soft.

Right. And their minds are getting weak.

Speaking of that, I think I'll go over to Marvin's house

'and see if I can tear him from his lazy G.E.E.C. world.'

will drive you there in the Batmobile.

It's not natural for people to be idle all the time.

We're gonna take a walk.

'toward the fishing fleet.'

If anything ever goes wrong with the G.E.E.C.

there's nobody aboard these ships to take control.

'Or to send an SOS.'

Valuable ships and cargos could be lost.

(Wendy) '"Boat lake up ahead.'

Terrific. Let's take out a rowboat.

- Must we? - Sure.

Don't worry, Super Marv. I'll do all the rowing.

I wanna get some exercise anyhow.

This is dumb.

It's no fun if you can't do your own rowing.

(Marvin) '"G.E.E.C. operated.'

'Please do not touch the oars."'

Oh, this is boring.

Let's take the boat back and turn it in.

We can't, the G.E.E.C. keeps the boat out for a full hour

whether you want to or not.

Oh, great, for the next 60 minutes,

we're prisoners of the G.E.E.C.

Nobody around.

Nothing moving but G.E.E.C. trucks.

Hmm, looks like they're in for a rainstorm upstate.

'Great Scott. That plane's going to fly into the storm cloud.'

I wonder if that's a G.E.E.C. plane.

I'd better lift it above the storm cloud.

The G.E.E.C. has everything under control.

But for how long?

One slip-up, one mechanical error

could lead to some serious accidents.

Well, Superfriends, there's no doubt about it.

'Professor Goodfellow's computer is running smoothly.'

Yes. It's performing millions of tasks.

- Big jobs and little ones. - Without a hitch.

I must admit, it's a fantastic machine.

I think it's a terrible machine.

Well, gee, most of the G.E.E.C. people

are getting lazy and sluggish.

They're becoming vegetables, like plants on a window sill.

They just sit there and wait for the G.E.E.C

to feed and take care of them.

Wemdy's right, they don't have to use their brains

for anything, it even seems that originality, initiative

and ambition have gone out of style.

Right. Nobody's got any get-up-and-go.

The only hope is they'll grow tired of the G.E.E.C. life.

[communicator rings]

- Yes, professor? - Well, Superman.

My G.E.E.C. has made the world a happier place to live in

as I told you, it's a marvelous machine.

The Superfriends congratulate you, professor.

- It's been working perfectly. - Of course.

I'm sure you've heard no complaints from the public.

- No. Not yet. - Not yet?

Ha, what does that mean, not yet?

Professor, what will happen if an intruder

sneaks into your building and tampers with the controls?

Or if the machine breaks down by itself?

[Goodfellow laughs]

(Goodfellow) Intruders? Breakdowns? Impossible.

Come visit me and I'll show you why.

(Goodfellow) 'I'm glad you came, Superfriends.'

Uh, please, excuse me. It's my lunch hour.

We can talk while I fix myself a snack.

No vandals can sneak into this factory.

Not even onto the factory grounds.

Those robots outside are programmed

to keep out all intruders.

to sneak into the big computer room?

[grunting]

Hmm.

Gentlemen, the large computer room

is criss-crossed with electric-eye beams.

When an intruder crosses a beam

this warning light starts flashing at which point,

I merely activate the G.E.E.C. room guards.

What happens then?

The G.E.E.C. guards come out of the wall

riding in radar vehicles, each of which is equipped

with a powerful air-suction device.

Holy vacuum cleaners.

(Batman) 'Great Scott. Professor! Your warning light is flashing.'

Oh, my. So it is. I must activate the G.E.E.C. guards.

Let's get down there fast.

[snarling]

Hey, professor. That's my dog.

Don't worry, Marvin.

I don't think you're going to lose him.

[laughing]

Your guards are very effective.

But, professor, the computer has millions of parts

transistors, vacuum tubes, mechanical levers.

Yes. Suppose a tube should burn out?

I'll take you inside the G.E.E.C. computer

and show you why a breakdown is impossible.

We've got to get word to the professor

that his computer is all discombobulated.

Take us to the G.E.E.C. factory, please. We're in a hurry.

That computer never misses. Amazing.

Great Scott. It's going to hit that smokestack.

Whew, that smokestack would've fallen

right on the new power plant.

[whirring]

Great Scott! They're all out of control.

[gasps]

Yikes. Everything's going wild.

Well, how about this? We're tail-gating a vacuum cleaner.

Well, at least we know we're riding on a clean street.

(narrator) In the North Atlantic, a giant oil tanker

unwittingly sails into a restricted sea lane.

Luckily, Aquaman becomes aware of the danger.

He knows that if he doesn't save the tanker

the sea for miles around will be polluted

by thousands of gallons of crude oil.

Gotta get this big baby out of these dangerous waters.

I need help.

Okay, big fellas, tow this tanker to a safe port.

Looks like the G.E.E.C. crossed its wires.

I'd better stay on ocean alert.

Holy freak-outs. The G.E.E.C. has gone berserk.

The professor must turn that machine off

before someone gets hurt.

I can't get through to Goodfellow.

The G.E.E.C. exchange is all fouled up.

Why don't we go there and turn it off ourselves?

Right, chum. To the Batmobile.

[whining]

(Marvin) Jeepers. We're off the road.

I think we're heading back.

The G.E.E.C.'s goofiness has finally

caught up with this taxi.

(Marvin) 'Watch out. I think we're heading for the hen house.'

[whimpers]

[crash]

- Ugh, mud. - Don't worry.

I'll leap across and bring back a wooden plank.

Up, up and away.

Looks like Super Marv landed in the super goo.

Now, how am I gonna get to dry land?

[grunting]

How come you're not wet too?

Like they say, Marv, look before you leap.

How far are we from th eG.E.E.C. factory?

- About a mile. - Let's go.

(Batman) Guard. Open the gate.

It's urgent.

Holy punch cards. Remember what Goodfellow said?

These robots are programmed to keep people out.

Yes. This time, Goodfellow wasn't expecting us.

(Wonder Woman) 'Guard, can you get a message through'

to Professor Goodfellow?

Good, tell him the Caped Crusaders and Wonder Woman

must see him immediately.

(male #1) 'Here's the pitch, Bud Harrelson swings.'

'He hits a grounder to the third baseman.'

'There's the throw, and it's two outs for the Mets.'

Well, guard? Did you get through to him?

(male #1) 'Well, the Mets and Dodgers are tied up'

'in the 9th inning with two outs'

'and Willie Mays is at the plate.'

'Here's the pitch. He swings.'

Can't you reach the professor?

(Robin) Of course, he can't, these G.E.E.C. phones

aren't working right.

Guard, you'll have to open the gate.

I'll take full responsibility.

We've to get through that gate.

- 'Let's climb it.' - Uh-oh.

Something new has been added. Look.

'No tresspassing.'

We're out of that robot's field of vision.

He won't be able to see us climb the fence.

One of us has to get into that building.

Galloping Galileo, Batman.

Professor Goodfellow has thought of everything.

Yes, Robin. He's set up a force field of tremendous strength.

- Stalemated. - Not exactly.

On Paradise Island, we Amazons were trained to do this.

Once I land past the robot

I can easily outrace him to the building.

Holy skyhooks. He's got her.

Well, chalk one up for the robot.

I didn't expect that.

Ah, my beautiful G.E.E.C.

It's brought peace and quiet and happiness to the world.

- Where's the robot guard? - Who knows?

We'd better get in there and turn off the G.E.E.C.

Why, it's a force field. Batman once told me about them.

- We'll never get through it. - How about over it?

I'll do one of my super leaps.

Fantastic. How high can you jump?

Six or seven feet.

That fence is at least nine feet, Marvin.

- So you can't get over it, dig? - Yeah. Dig.

[gruntign]

This problem really requires super brains.

- Like mine? - No. Like Wonder Dog's.

'There's no way over that fence, so he went under.'

[gruntign]

[alarm beeping]

There's the entrance to the professor's quarters. Come on.

My word. The warning signal.

There are intruders in the G.E.E.C. room.

I must activate the G.E.E.C. guards.

Professor? Professor Goodfellow?

- Marvin, is he in there? - No.

He must've gone out of town or something.

We'll have to turn the G.E.E.C. off ourselves.

- How? - There must be a master switch.

We'll look for it. Come on.

(Goodfellow) There, whoever they are,

the G.E.E.C. guards will flush them out.

(Wendy) This set of controls is for construction machines.

- Did you find it yet, Marvin? - No.

This whole section is for school work.

Hey, as long as we're here, why don't I turn it off for good?

Don't be funny, Marvin.

Now, come on. Look for the master switch.
