(male narrator) In the Great Hall of the Justice League

there are assembled the world's four greatest heroes

created from the cosmic legends of the universe.

Superman!

[horn blaring]

Wonder Woman!

Batman!

Aquaman!

And those three junior Super Friends

Wendy, Marvin and Wonder Dog.

Their mission: to fight injustice, to right that

which is wrong and to serve all mankind.

[instrumental music]

(male narrator) The Super Friends gathered for their weekly meeting

in the Hall of Justice League

have occasion to relax

for the world appears tranquil this day.

Holy rolling cue ball, Batman. That's an amazing feat.

Not so amazing, Robin.

After all, there are only 15 balls on the pool table.

(male narrator) The TroubAlert computer has no major disaster to report.

The hotline to Washington is silent

and the CDQ box to the SDI hasn't buzzed once.

This is the hardest biology homework I've ever had.

Like this question, "What is photo-photosynthesis?"

- Why, photosynthesis is when-- - Hold it, Robin.

Learning is something only Marvin can do for Marvin.

- Right, Superman? - Right, Marvin.

You must do your own thinking and studying.

Wendy is working at the library. Why don't you go there?

It's a good place to study.

What good is photosynthesis to a fella who's going

'into the superhero business?'

(male #1) Uh, I'm a rock collector and I would like to find

some books on the subject.

(female #1) 'Hmm, well, we had a book on that subject'

'but it's out just now.'

Photosynthesis. F.. F..

Photosynthesis is spelled with a P, young man, not an F.

So that's why I can't find it.

[howling]

Shh.

(Wendy) 'Remember, you're in a library.'

[sighs]

[Wonder Dog sniffles]

[sneezes]

- 'Oh, no.' - Something wrong, Wendy?

The encyclopedias, they're gone.

The whole shelf of them has disappeared.

- Huh? - Huh?

Holy bibliography, all the encyclopedias were gone.

Disappeared completely.

Right after Wonder Dog sneezed.

Marvin?

Well, somebody must have been eating almonds

and Wonder Dog is, like, allergic.

Marvin, please.

Seems like a job for the police, Wendy. Simple robbery.

[device beeping]

We're getting a CDQ from the SDI.

A CDQ from the SDI?

A high-priority communication

from the Secret Department of Investigation.

The Secret Department of Investigation?

I just said that, Marvin.

And we are calling upon you, the Justice League

for assistance because if this catastrophe takes place

'it will cause serious diplomatic repercussions.'

Just what catastrophe are you referring to, colonel?

Our government has received a very disturbing phone call.

'We've put it on tape so you could hear it.'

(Baffles on recorder) 'Professor Baffles gives warning.'

'The collection of lithographs lent for exhibition'

'by the French government to the American National Museum'

'will be stolen tonight at 8:00.'

And if you doubt my ability to carry out my plan

'check with the Central Library and ask what happened'

'to all their encyclopedias.'

Did you, did you hear that, Wendy?

(Baffles on recorder) 'That's tonight at the American Museum.'

'Professor Baffles has spoken.'

Gentlemen, you have heard. Zero hour, eight o'clock, tonight.

(male narrator) That night at 10 minutes before eight

the Super Friends stake out the American Museum.

Aquaman patrols beneath the river

which flows alongside the museum.

Through telepathic communication with

the marine life in the river, he asks about

any unusual boat activity in the area and is informed

there has been none.

Wonder Woman, in her transparent plane

checks the area above the museum.

She asks herself, "Could that helicopter

be part of the plot?"

But she decides it is beyond suspicion.

Below, Batman and Robin probe the dark streets

near the museum.

[horn blaring]

Robin, that sign says "Keep off the grass."

Careless of me, Batman.

- I'm sorry. Was anybody hurt? - Not this time.

But unless you slow down, somebody may be hurt.

I promise, Batman, I won't ever speed again.

(male narrator) And inside the museum, Superman

as the mild-mannered Clark Kent, is on the alert.

And those are the lithographs lent by the French government?

Yes. The five on that wall.

(Clark) And the museum isn't concerned about the threat to steal them?

Every square inch of this museum is guarded.

'There's a guard at the south door'

'a guard at the north door and a guard at the window.'

Take my word for it, Mr. Kent.

It's impossible for anybody to steal those lithographs.

[sneezes]

[sneezes]

Do something, Marvin.

Wonder Dog, stop sneezing.

[sneezes]

They did it. They stole the lithographs.

[alarm ringing]

[sneezes]

If you don't stop Wonder Dog's sneezing, Marvin

nobody will be able to hear the sirens.

Well, he can't stop, not as long

as that smell of almonds is in the air.

[sneezes]

Almonds.

As impossible as it seems, gentlemen and Wonder Woman

those lithographs were stolen with guards

at every door and window.

'With you, Aquaman, patrolling the river'

'Wonder Woman, the air, Batman and Robin, the grounds'

and with Superman actually inside the museum.

Hmm, obviously, we're dealing

with a most inventive criminal mind.

Robin, at the museum, Wonder Dog was--

The less said about Wonder Dog at the museum

the better for everybody. Especially Wonder Dog.

But he smelled almonds, there and at the libr--

We'll talk about it a little later, kids.

Right now, we better listen to this.

Our problem is to find those lithographs

and return them to the museum.

But we don't have a clue as to where to start.

- We might start with this. - What is it?

It's a note, signed by Professor Baffles.

Exactly, it reads, "Gentlemen, I've proved my powers

"at the library. I have proved my powers at the museum.

"I have proved that it is futile to resist

any demands that I make."

So obviously, he's about to make an outlandish demand.

"A five million dollar shipment of new paper money

"is being shipped to Hawaii by the U.S. Mint.

I will appropriate that five million dollars unless.."

Ah, unless what?

"Unless one million dollars in gold is deposited

"to the credit of Professor Baffles

in a numbered account in a Swiss bank."

- You're not going to do that. - Was that you, Wonder Woman?

No, colonel. That was Wendy. She's prone to be impetuous.

Well, I like her spirit.

No, we are not going to submit to blackmail.

You, the Justice League, must protect that shipment.

Colonel, that money will get to Hawaii.

If it doesn't, gentlemen

your credibility with your government will be in jeopardy.

'But even more important than that the people of the country'

'will begin to lose confidence in you.'

(male narrator) As the shipment gets underway

the Super Friends take steps to cover the operation

from start to finish.

Superman, as reporter Clark Kent

watches as the money is taken from a government office

and placed aboard the armored truck.

Batman and Robin patrol the road the armored car

will travel to the harbor.

There, an ocean liner, the S.S. Grayback

awaits the shipment of money

which it will transport to Hawaii.

And Aquaman makes sure

that all goes well around and under the ocean liner.

In the sky, Wonder Woman, in her transparent airplane

covers the entire route to make sure

that Professor Baffles does not come up with the unexpected.

But there are those who have plans for that money

unknown to the Super Friends or Professor Baffles.

Now, to make sure nothing happens to that armored car.

The armored car takes this road to the harbor.

'We'll follow it to this tunnel, and we pick up the pieces.'

Rudy, check the boys.

Six-two to four-five, six-two to four-five, come in. Over.

'Six-two to four-five, come in.'

(male #2) 'Four-five to six-two, go ahead.'

- How's it coming? - 'We're all set here.'

(male #3) 'Tell them to block the tunnel.'

We spotted the armored car. Get moving.

Roger. Let's go.

- Wonder Woman to Batman. - Go ahead, Wonder Woman.

(Wonder Woman) 'There's some suspicious activity'

'in the Wadsworth Tunnel.'

(Robin) Right. We'll investigate.

[dramatic music]

Where'd that car come from?

(male #2) 'Arnie and Harv will block the tunnel.'

'We'll come up behind them.'

And surprise, we own five million, Rudy.

[laughing]

Rudy, you'll be surprised at who's going to be surprised.

Okay, let's get out of here.

[music continues]

It's Batman.

How on earth did you recognize me?

Now let's go into the tunnel and see

what you chaps have been up to.

- We can't do that, Batman. - 'Why not?'

'That armored car will come'

'barreling through here any second.'

We better get out of here.

- Hold on. - Let him go, Robin.

We evidently don't have much time. Come on.

Up ahead, Batman. That tractor is blocking the tunnel.

- Prepare the Bathook, Robin. - Bathook prepared, Batman.

Throw the Bathook.

[dramatic music]

Hey, that tractor isn't supposed to be there.

And you're not supposed to be here.

- Hey, what's going on? - It's Superman. We're finished.

[music continues]

Officers, I want you to meet some very ambitious gentlemen.

Their ambition was to be rich at the people's expense.

Well, thanks, Superman.

Always a pleasure to be of service to the law.

[whooshing]

[instrumental music]

Okay, junior Super Friends.

That's the secret entrance to the castle.

- Huh? - 'Right.'

The king's agents have every entrance sealed.

There's only one way in to the imprisoned American scientist.

Huh?

Marvin, will you cut out those fantasies?

We're supposed to be on the lookout for Professor Baffles.

Soon as we save the lost American scientist.

Okay, Wonder Dog.

Here we go.

Come on, Wonder Dog, jump.

Will you two stop this nonsense? Come down from there, Marvin.

I will. As soon as we save the imprisoned American scientist.

'Come on, Wonder Dog, jump.'

[whimpers]

Go on. Get it over with.

[yelling]

Well, did you see the imprisoned American scientist?

No. But I'm sure glad Superman showed up.

Well, Wendy, I see you've got the team on the lookout.

If that team isn't careful, they'll break a leg.

Okay, Wonder Dog. Mission accomplished.

Huh?

[dramatic music]

Wonder Dog, don't you know it's dangerous

to leave a bucket lying around?

Yeah.

[intense music]

And Wonder Woman is checking out the Hawaii end.

Well, the job is half done.

- Why, there's Mr. Mergen. - Mister who?

That nice man we met in the library.

'Mr. Mergen? Mr. Mergen.'

Hello, Mr. Mergen. Taking a trip?

Yes, I'm on sabbatical and I thought Hawaii would be

a good place to start my vacation.

[sniffling]

Marvin, if Wonder Dog is going to start that again

take him away from here.

Look, he's over it.

[sneezes]

Come on, Wonder Dog.

And the money is safely locked in the strongroom.

Well, Professor Baffles has evidently

lost his baffling power.

That's why I was so glad to see you.

So I could tell you I saw a Brazilian agate yesterday.

A Brazilian agate.

Yes, a lovely bird, the Brazilian agate.

Well, young lady, I must get to my cabin.

It was nice seeing you again. Goodbye.

Well, I guess there's nothing for us to do.

There's one thing to do.

Make sure that money is in the strongroom.

I suggest we investigate.

But Mr. Mergen is such a sweet guy. How can he turn sour?

How can Mr. Mergen, who claims he's a rock expert

say a Brazilian agate is a lovely bird?

- It's not lovely? - Not only is it not lovely..

Speaking of Brazilian agates, there goes Mr. Mergen.

(Wendy) 'He said he was going to his cabin.'

But he's leaving the ship.

I hope you know what you're doing, Wendy.

'Like, maybe we're following the wrong lead.'

(Wendy) How come Wonder Dog began to sneeze

'when we ran into Mr. Mergen?'

'Because he's allergic to almonds, that's why.'

(Marvin) I didn't smell any almonds on Mr. Mergen.

That's because you're not a dog.

A dog can pick up a scent that the human nose can't.

- Right, Wonder Dog? - Yeah.

[dramatic music]

He's disappeared.

Okay, Wonder Dog, where'd he go?

Hmm..

You must be mistaken, Superman.

Nobody could get into the strongroom.

Superman is never mistaken, sir.

Impossible!

The porthole is locked. Nobody could enter this way either.

[Aquaman sniffs]

Am I mistaken, or do I detect the odor of almonds?

You definitely are not mistaken.

Holy nose buds.

Wendy and Marvin mentioned almonds.

- Pertaining to what, Robin? - The museum robbery.

And the disappearance of the books at the library.

In each case, the kids said they smelled almonds.

Obviously, then, Professor Baffles only baffles

where almonds linger in the air.

[sniffling]

Never fear, Wendy.

Wonder Dog, the bloodhound, is on the trail.

What's taking him so long?

He's a cautious bloodhound. He likes to be sure.

Look. He's found something.

[whimpering]

Bloodhound? Pizzahound is more like it.

Come on, Wonder Dog. Which way did he go?

[dramatic music]

(Robin) If the door was barred and the porthole was locked

how did Professor Baffles steal the money?

- He didn't steal it. - But it's gone.

Yes, but first, let's think of the demand

Professor Baffles made of the government.

Of course, Superman.

I see the direction of your reasoning.

You do?

Professor Baffles demanded one million dollars

otherwise, he would make five million disappear, right?

If he could steal five million

why'd he be willing to settle for one?

Maybe he's a rotten mathematician.

He's not a mathematician. He's a chemist.

He didn't steal the money. He made it disappear.

Professor Baffles knew he couldn't get through

a barred door or a locked porthole but he could shoot

a chemical solution or a gas under the door.

The chemical dissolved or disintegrated the paper money.

The action between the chemical and the subject dissolved

creates the almond odor.

Alright. We know where the money went.

Now, what we want to do is find Professor Baffles.

[dramatic music]

Mr. Darby, Mr. Dabney, what are you..

- Shh. Quiet. - Shh.

Where did those young people come from?

The back of your truck, Professor Baffles.

Well, send them away.

We can't do that, professor

or all your good works will go down the drain.

(Baffles) 'They must not be harmed.'

They won't be.

We'll just keep 'em here nice and cozy

until you complete your good works.

Professor Baffles has been

in communication with us again, gentlemen.

He wants five million dollars this time.

And if he doesn't get it?

Then he'll take action against

the New York Public Library first

then the Boston Music Library and so on

until the money is paid.

And when and where does he want

the five million dollars delivered?

He will let us know.

When we know, we will let you know.

Thank you, gentlemen.

Do we wait until he makes his next move or..

Yes, but when he does make that move, we'll be ready for him.

Something wrong, Batman?

- Has anybody seen Wendy? - And Marvin?

I'm always stumbling over Marvin, but not lately.

Robin, why don't you see if you can find them?

It's locked.

- 'Mr. Dabney.' - Yes, professor?

(Baffles) 'This door is locked.'

So the kids won't disturb you while you make

'some more of your formula.'

I won't make any more formula unless you open this door.

You'll do as you're--

Open the door for the professor, Darby.

We don't want the ice cream to melt before the kids get it.

You're a kind man, Mr. Dabney.

I bet if me and Wonder Dog threw ourselves against that wall

'we could knock it down. Right, Wonder Dog?'

Don't try anything foolish, Marvin.

Superman wouldn't hesitate.

- You're not Superman. - Yeah.

Well, here we are.

Why don't we stop playing games and--

Because if we lean too hard on the professor

'maybe he'll start asking questions'

we don't want to answer.

Smile, Darby.

You're doing a terrible thing, Professor Baffles.

Bringing you ice cream?

You know very well what I mean.

Stealing encyclopedias from the library.

Yeah.

And stealing lithographs from the museum.

I didn't steal those things.

I simply made them disappear into thin air.

Why would you wanna do a thing like that?

For the good of humanity.

Destroying books and art is for the good of humanity?

Exactly.

When man first appeared

on this earth, he was pure and good.

Superman and Aquaman and Batman and Wonder Woman

are pure and good.

Agreed, but nobody else.

- And you know why? - Why?

Through example. Man became what he has become through

'the bad example set him by history.'

Like, I don't know what he's talking about, Wonder Dog.

Man has become corrupt and treacherous

and belligerent and crime-prone.

I say it's the fault of history.

And you're going to wipe out that history

by destroying all the books and paintings and music?

Exactly, and give man a chance to start with a clean slate.

(Wendy) 'Is that why you demanded that money from the government?'

Explain that, Mr. Mergen-Professor Baffles.

It sounds to me like plain extortion.

Not at all.

Mr. Dabney and Mr. Darby pointed out to me

that we were running short of funds to continue my campaign.

Well, if you ask me

Mr. Darby and Mr. Dabney are a couple of crooks.

Yeah.

Um, professor, we've wasted enough time.

Uh, Mr. Dabney, will you explain to these young people

that you want that money for me?

Come on, Dabney, lay it on the line.

Well, professor, we figure one hand washes the other.

What Dabney means is that since we helped you do what

you wanted it's only fair that you should

help us get what we want.

Which is one million dollars.

- Then you are crooks. - 'Obviously.'

Remember, I-I said it first, Wendy. Right, Wonder Dog?

[Wonder Dog groans]

It's too bad, Mr. Mergen that Mr. Darby and Mr. Dabney

don't prefer to work for a living.

Gentlemen, I am surprised and disappointed by this.

Enough of this jawboning, professor.

'We only have two test tubes of the solution left, professor.'

If the solution makes things disappear, professor

how come it doesn't make the test tubes disappear?

Glass is one substance that is immune to my solution.

Oh, skip the chemistry lecture, professor

and start making more solution.

I absolutely refuse to have anything further

to do with you two gentlemen.

That's telling 'em, professor.

What?

[Wonder Dog yelps]

(Wendy) 'If you know what's good for you, Mr. Dabney'

and Mr. Darby, you'll let us out of here before

our Super Friends find out about this.

Heh. We're arranging to take care of your Super Friends.

In a little while, they won't be able to help themselves

much less anybody else.

Anyway, they have no way of knowing where you are.

Like, how wrong can you be?

- Wonder Dog, the window. - Huh?

Get the Super Friends. Go.

[grunts]

[dramatic music]

[crashing]

[music continues]

(Marvin) 'Duck, Wonder Dog.'

crash

[sneezes]

Almonds, Wendy. Smell the almonds?

[sneezes]

Poor Wonder Dog. His allergy.

- Go, Wonder Dog. - Huh?

Like, the road to the window is wide open.

And until we apprehend Professor Baffles

all the libraries, art galleries

and museums will be closed.

- Wonder Dog, where's Wendy? - And Marvin?

[grunting]

Somebody's got them?

[grunts]

[growling]

- And won't let them go. - Yeah.

(Batman) 'Who's got them?'

[sniffling]

Wonder Dog, this is no time to catch a cold.

[grunting]

[sniffling]

(Wonder Woman) 'You don't have a cold?'

[sneezes]

An allergy?

(Batman) 'Robin, didn't you mention'

that Wendy and Marvin said they smelled

almonds at the scene of each crime?

Galloping goslings, Batman. You're on the right track.

Professor Baffles has Wendy and Marvin.

[grunting]

[dramatic music]

I don't see Wendy and Marvin.

'But the laboratory is a mess.'

(Batman) 'Is this the place, Wonder Dog?'

[Wonder Dog barks]

(Batman) '"Wendy and Marvin you are no doubt'

'"looking to find'

then hunt in these places that are four of a kind."

"Under the sea, off the coast of Spain

"or in a balloon floating free in the rain

"or perhaps in the Andes on some remote peak

"or think instead, Super Friends

of some dark cave of which no one will speak."

[Dabney and Darby laughing]

(Darby) 'Yeah, and-and while your heroes, the Super Friends'

are on four separate wild-goose chases

Yeah, where we have arranged to put them out of action.

We will make arrangements to collect one million dollars

from the government.

By the way, Darby

why do you suppose our three friends

'are inside that ticket booth?'

Well, maybe they're trying to sell some tickets.

Ha, ha. But to who?

[laughing]

I'm sorry, Wendy.

I'm to blame for this terrible..

I guess you can say that again.

Marvin, this is no time for fault finding.

Right on.

This is a time for finding a way outta this mess.

(Baffles) 'But how?'

Like maybe you should yell for help.

We're miles away from anybody who could hear us.

Wendy is right. Nobody would be near a deserted amusement park.

I guess so.

Let's do what the Super Friends would do.

- What's that? - Break our way out of here.

[thudding]

On the other hand, maybe we should think of something else.

(male narrator) Under the sea, off the coast of Spain

Aquaman spots a submarine where no submarine should be.

[intense music]

[music continues]

(male narrator) And now, Aquaman decides to send out a call for help.

For miles in every direction

Aquaman's telepathic message races through the ocean.

[pulsating]

(male narrator) A balloon floating free in the sky is seen by Superman.

And in the balloon, something is covered by a blanket.

But instead of Wendy and Marvin he finds kryptonite

that material from the planet of his origin

which robs him of his powers and weakens him dangerously.

(male narrator) In the Andes Mountains, on some remote peak..

...Wonder Woman's attention is caught by a beacon's light.

[dramatic music]

(male narrator) As Wonder Woman looks up at the flickering light

at the top of the shaft, she realizes

there is no way she can climb out.

(male narrator) Batman and Robin arrive at the dark cave and enter.

Holy hobgoblins. It's dark in here, Batman.

Instead of calling upon hobgoblins, Robin

call upon your Batlight.

Of course, Batman.

[dramatic music]

Are you alright, Robin?

I just tripped over a wire.

Beware of wires where wires shouldn't be.

You suspect something, Batman?

This is no time to figure it out. Let's get out of here.

[rumbling]

I could kick myself for being so naive.

I've been trusting Dabney and Darby.

The Super Friends will find us, Mr. Mergen.

We wouldn't have to depend on the Super Friends

if we had any of Mr. Mergen's chemical solution.

We wouldn't?

A little of that solution poured on this wall..

I just happen to have a small vial

of that solution in my pocket.

You do?

Alright, Marvin. Stand clear.

[sighs] Well, that's what I call

a super-groovy disappearing wall.

Like, maybe Darby and Dabney won't appreciate us

busting up their ticket booth.

Yes. It might be wise if we left, quickly.

(Dabney) 'Hold it right there, Colonel Wilcox.'

(Darby) 'One million dollars, right, colonel?'

Correct, gentlemen.

I have one million dollars in these two bags.

(Dabney) 'Put them down.'

'Walk back to your car and take off.'

[intense music]

"Monkey tent."

Quick. Inside.

Welcome home, professor.

Come on in, Darby. We're having a reunion.

[laughing] They're not as attractive

as the last monkeys we had in the cage.

Yeah, but some monkeys are better than no monkeys at all.

[laughing]

You won't find things quite so funny

when the Super Friends catch up to you.

The Super Friends aren't going to catch up to anybody.

They're already caught.

[laughing]

(male narrator) Aquaman, pinned under the submarine

and immobilized by the steel cables that enmesh him

has given up hope that the telepathic messages he had sent

had reached any of his marine friends.

But now, he picks up the song of a sperm whale

as it races toward him.

And two moray eels inform him they are on their way.

Aquaman directs the whale to the bowel of the submarine

and orders it to lift.

Aquaman gives directions to the moray eels.

[dramatic music]

[thunder crashing]

(male narrator) As the kryptonite is tossed out of the balloon

its potent effect on Superman is diminished.

And when it falls far enough away

it loses all effect and Superman regains consciousness.

[sighs] If they tricked me, then they tricked the others too.

[whooshing]

[dramatic music]

Unh. Thanks, Superman.

It was getting a bit cramped down there.

I've got a feeling that Aquaman

and Batman and Robin might need our help.

I was thinking the same thing.

You check the coast of Spain.

I'll see about Batman and Robin.

See you back in the Hall of Justice League.

It's getting very close in here, Batman.

Don't talk, Robin. Save your breath.

[dramatic music]

If we ever get out of here--

Robin, listen.

You do go to great lengths to assure privacy, Batman.

Well, you know how it is, Superman.

If one doesn't get off the beaten path, anyone can drop in.

And this is where I was instructed to bring the money.

- And you didn't see-- - 'I couldn't see a thing.'

They had their headlights shining in my eyes.

With all our super power combined

we can't find Wendy and Marvin.

The only reason the government agreed

to turn over the money, Batman

was so that no harm would come to your young friends.

Cheer up, Wonder Dog. I'm sure they're alright.

Come on, Wonder Dog. See if you can pick up their scent.

[sniffing]

[whimpers]

I'd like to make them disappear.

Marvin, don't let their nastiness make you nasty.

I don't mean to hurt them. I'd like to see the last of them.

You will, as soon as the Super Friends find us.

I'm beginning to doubt that anyone could ever find us.

Wonder Dog could. He's, like, one great bloodhound.

He's, like, half bloodhound with one great allergy.

- Mr. Mergen. - Yes, Wendy?

The rest of your magic solution, where is it?

If I threw it on the fire..

The fire would disappear.

- And the smoke? - Hmm.

I suppose the smoke would just float on out into the air.

That's all I wanted to know.

Can I have it, please? Stand back.

What's the matter?

The monkeys don't like hot coffee?

[laughing]

Aquaman, you cover the lower valleys.

Wonder Woman, you head east.

[sniffs]

[sneezes]

[whimpers]

Wonder Dog is trying to tell us something.
