(male narrator) Suddenly, the weekly meeting

of the Super Friends takes on a serious note.

Something's gone wrong with a giant freight train.

[instrumental music]

(Jack) I don't think we can make it to the top.

We'll have to brake her right here on the grade.

We'll never be able to hold.

Brakeman. Brakeman, do you read me?

Hey. What's happening up there, Jack?

(Jack) 'Trouble, Dave. Big trouble.'

'We've got all four diesels going full blast.'

But the more power we generate, the less drive we get.

Keep your hands on the brakes and stay with me.

Well, that's it. Our power system's gone haywire.

Super calamities.

The freight train is starting to roll back down the grade.

And there's a passenger train stranded at the bottom.

It's out of power too.

I'll get this one, friends.

Stopping trains is my specialty.

California, here I come.

Jack, the brakes aren't holding. Look.

'We're heading right for the 507.'

(male narrator) Should be reaching Donner Pass any moment now.

Just make sure there are no ceilings overhead, Wonder Dog.

And, Marvin, don't forget, not everyone has super-strength

but everyone has a brain.

You can do super things with your brain.

For instance, right now, the important thing to do

is figure out just what caused

those trains to lose their power.

That's right, we know that the diesels were working

but the power they generated disappeared

before it reached the wheels.

Of course, it could have been a malfunction. Maybe..

[alarm wailing]

(Wendy) 'Another TroubAlert.'

It's.. It's the new luxury liner.

The Queen Victoria.

On her maiden voyage.

But she should be steaming into harbor soon.

- 'What's gone wrong, Wendy?' - 'It's a storm.'

That shouldn't be a problem for a big new powerful ship.

The ship is in danger of being smashed against the rocks.

and the plane begins to taxi toward the hangar door.

And the thought-powered plane rises into the air.

A robot plane that you fly by using brain waves.

(Wonder Woman) The only thing that can surpass strength

is the power of the brain.

[thunder cracks]

Look, Aquaman. There she is.

- The Queen Victoria. - 'We're in time.'

'Now all I have to do is anchor it somehow'

keep it from being driven against the rocks.

(Wonder Woman) I'll drop down closer for you.

Never mind. I'll make it from here.

See you back at the Hall of Justice.

Okay, but first I'll patrol the seaboard

see if I can find any trouble before it starts.

[thunder cracks]

[music continues]

(male narrator) As Aquaman swims toward the foundering ship

something wraps itself around his leg.

Thinking it is only a strand of seaweed,

he tries to swim on

but finds himself caught in an iron grip.

It is then Aquaman realizes he is being held fast

not by seaweed, but by a renegade giant anemone

searching the waters for food.

And he is the prey.

Unable to free himself from the clutches

of the hungry giant anemone

Aquaman concentrates on his telepathic powers

sending out an urgent call for help

to all octopi in the area.

[instrumental music]

Aquaman should have everything under control by now.

Right, and we'll be at the coast

to pick him up in a couple of minutes.

Holy hang-ups, Batman. Look.

That crane is out of control.

crash

(Batman) 'I see it, chum. You'll have to make a fast detour.'

If they can just hold on for a few more seconds.

clang clang

Bill, I can't hold on any longer.

Joe. Joe.

- They made it. - Fantastic.

The power crane, it just went haywire.

We had to jump out of the way, and then it went dead.

Wow, the dynamic duo. Wasn't that super groovy?

[instrumental music]

(male narrator) Aquaman knew he could trust his sea friends

and they would not fail him.

Thank you, my friends.

But come. There's more work to be done.

And first, we'll need the help of a great whale.

[whirring]

Captain. The storm has turned us around into a leeward drift.

We're heading for the rocks. And we're helpless.

I can't understand what's happening to our power.

Captain. Captain, look.

(captain) 'It's Aquaman.'

He's shouting something.

We'll never hear him above the storm

and we're almost upon the rocks.

Look. He's semaphoring.

He wants us to drop our anchors.

But they'll never hold.

[thunder cracks]

[music continues]

The anchors will never hold in this storm, captain.

the power pirate is going to show up here?

to handle the situation with skill and daring

and super fantastic intelligence.

[generators whirring]

That's not all I hear.

(Wendy) 'Maybe it's the power pirate.'

(Marvin) And, like it looks like whoever it was

went out with the lights.

(Wendy) We've got to head him off

before he gets the generators.

- Quick. This way. - No, Wendy. This way.

[Wonder Dog barking]

- Ow. - Yikes.

Wow. With Super Friends like us, who needs enemies?

[whimpering]

(male narrator) The following day, the power pirate

forces the Super Friends along

at a hectic pace.

When an experimental plane on its test flight

loses power and heads for a forced landing

Superman rushes to the rescue

and brings the stricken aircraft down safely.

[instrumental music]

Aquaman has a tough job on his hands.

A nuclear submarine is robbed of its power

and sinks to the ocean floor.

Here, it becomes wedged

into a crevice in a huge rock formation.

But Aquaman is advised of the situation

and speeds to the rescue.

Fortunately for the submarine

a bed of incredibly strong seaweed is in the vicinity.

While Aquaman begins to fashion a rope from the strong seaweed

he sends word to some friends.

A school of whales playing on the surface of the water

receives Aquaman's call for help.

[music continues]

[music continues]

Aquaman succeeds in freeing the submarine

but the submarine lacks even the power to unload ballast.

So Aquaman supplies the power to send it to the surface.

[music continues]

Later, darkness, flying with the dynamic duo

swinging to the top of the tallest skyscraper..

...where their Batlights act as a replacement

for the warning beacon which has stopped functioning

due to a power loss.

[instrumental music]

Finally, the power pirate proves too nimble

for even the Super Friends.

While they have been kept busy elsewhere

factories and office buildings have shut down.

Freeways have become jammed with stranded cars.

Friends, I think we've met our match.

We've been outwitted in every attempt

to stop these power losses.

I think our problem lies

in our very super-strengths and abilities.

- Huh? - You're right, Superman.

We've depended on using our muscles

'when we should have been using our brains.'
