[Episode 2]

Thank you, Master.

The engagement letter. Keep it safe.

This is the token.

There's nothing else. You can go down the mountain.

Wait.

What engagement letter, Master?

Didn't you save a little girl when you were young?

Oh, are you talking about Rong'er?

Yes, because her grandfather is grateful to you for saving her life,

they've arranged for her to marry you.

At that time, you promised her grandfather that you'd accompany her.

How come you've never told me?

You have to focus on your studies.

Besides, this matter, I gradually let it go.

Are you sure you let it go, or did you forget?

How can I forget it? Your master has retentive memory abilities.

But I might not live past 20 years of age.

[Engagement Letter]

No, I have to cancel the engagement.

Since you've decided, I'll follow your intentions. Don't delay her.

But the Xu Family is a noble family in Shendu City.

If you run into any problems in Shendu City, you can ask for their help.

All right, that's all.

Master!

Geez, what is it?

- Go on... Go on.\N- Master.

Get going; hurry up and leave.

Senior Disciple, after I leave, please look after Master.

His health is not what it use to be.

Changsheng, I'll walk you down the mountain.

There's no need to.

Don't worry, no matter what happens in future, I will work hard at living.

I'll guard at the front entrance everyday and wait for your return.

I believe that you'l definitely come back.

Because you are just like your name,

you will definitely live a long life.

Master!

The stars have shifted. Ziwei is oscillating.

Has a cursed star emerged?

Young lady.

Young lady, you've been poisoned.

No poison.

Young lady, I'll protect you.

Let's be civilized and talk it out. Why do you have your weapons out?

Go away.

I know I can't fight you, but I can persuade you by reasoing.

300 Taoist Texts said that the ways of Heaven...

This formation won't trap them for long. Let's go.

Let's go. Go.

Hurry.

After them!

[Senior Disciple of the Lishan Sword Sect, Qiushan Jun]

Qiushan Jun, this has nothing to do with you.

I don't want to trouble you.

But you troubled Junior Disciple.

You know I have feelings for you. I won't become your enemy.

Why do you have to be like this?

The princess of the Demon Clan has feelings for me, should I be happy about this?

I'm sorry to disappoint. The Demon Clan will always be the Demon Clan.

You will always be the Human Clan's enemy.

We're leaving.

Stop.

What?

Hurry and give it to me.

Young lady.

You are poisoned by the peacock feather.

When your blood flows, \Nthe poison is going to attack your heart.

This is the breeze powder I made.

It can temporarily suppress the poison.

There's no need.

I'm at my place now and can suppress the poison myself.

Goodbye for now.

Right, I forgot to ask her name.

What should I call you?

As beautiful as the snow, as far as the cloud.

I'll just call you Young Lady Chu Jian.

Hopefully we will meet again someday.

Master.

Sit down.

It's not so easy to handle Xu Yourong. Qiushan Jun is on her side.

Qiushan Jun won't help her.

You shouldn't have any illusions about Qiushan Jun.

You're the princess of the Demon clan. He's a human.

Don't be penny-wise and foolish, and end your life in vain.

I'm not afraid of death.

Master, think about it.

If he could work for us, wouldn't that be better?

Junior Disciple!

Senior Disciple.

Greetings to Senior Disciple Qiushan.

Your astrolabe.

Thank you.

I was attacked by Nanke, \Nand let her gain favor by being careless.

How are your injuries? Are they serious?

Not serious. Thank you for your concern.

There's no need to say thank you. Although we are not from the same academies,

but Lishan Academy and Nanxi Academy were always in good relation.

The disciples are close.

So you don't have to be so polite with me.

It looks like you're badly injured.

How about this? I'll escort you back to Nanxi Academy for healing.

No need, the young Taoist earlier already treated me.

I'll go find you in several days to see the Empress together, \Nand report about the key for Zhou Garden.

We'll definitely need to properly thank that young Taoist someday.

Don't worry, Junior Disciple.

You understand how to calculate the path of when the key will appear.

The Demon Clan can't find it.

This is how the destinies of the Human Clan and the Demon Clan compete.

Whoever can enter the small world of Zhou Du Fu will obtain supreme power.

So, Junior Disciple, you have to protect yourself even better.

We must find the key to Zhou Garden before the Demon Clan does.

But don't forget, the Black Robe might appear at any time.

Nanke is his disciple.

He might have a clue to where the Zhou Garden key is.

Just let me deal with the Demon Clan.

You work hard.

Then, Junior Disciple, I hope you recover quickly. I'm leaving now.

Come take a look. Hey, don't touch them.

Sorry.

Young Sir, come up and sit with us.

Big Brother, come up and play.

No need.

Don't leave, come up and sit with us.

This--

Hey.

[Princess of the Beast Clan, Bai Luoheng]

This--

Hey.

Miss, you're finally awake.

Miss, please come down.

If he finds out, we'll be scolded again.

When have I ever been scared of Uncle Jin?

What smell is that?

Oh, no! It's Uncle Jin!

Miss, be careful.

[General of the Beast Clan, Jin Yulü]

Uncle Jin, come catch me.

Miss.

Miss, stop messing around.

If you're capable, then come catch me.

Even if you don't want to go to the Heavenly Taoist Temple, you still have to go;

otherwise, I have no way to explain it.

Uncle Kim, can the Heavenly Taoist Temple solve my body meridian problem?

Since it can't be solved, then what's the point of me going?

Missy, the Empress called in the famous doctors of Shendu City

to come help you diagnose the body meridian problem.

I'm going to Shendu City for one year to have fun!

The meridian problem of the Demon Clan, no one can solve it, right?

Uncle Kim, I heard the courtyard next door is unoccupied.

Let's go take a look, all right?

Absolutely not! That is the Guojiao school. There is a sword formation left behind by the supreme priest.

No one can break through.

A sword formation! Let's go see.

Your Highness! Just forget that idea!

The Demon Clan cannot go break that sword formation.

If the supreme priest thinks it's a provocative act, it will break the association between the Human Clan and us.

All right, all right. Pretend that I didn't say it.

If you want me to go study at the Heavenly Taoist Temple, that's possible.

Then promise me one thing.

Let me practice the human cultivation method.

Then, I'll be obedient and go study books.

All right.

These are physicians arranged by the Empress. Perhaps, they'll have a solution

to solve your problem. The whole Shendu City,

all the doctors who practice Taoism are here.

They're all just bluffing.

You have to understand the hardships of an elder.

Come, come.

[Tang Family Medical Clinic]

Look at this.

Gold-Winged Roc?

A pair of golden wings... It burns things at will.

[Gold-Winged Roc]

This customer, this way please.

Come, come, come. Sit here, sit here.

- Please. \N- Thanks.

May I ask, what would you like to eat customer?

Boss, I want some wings.

How many do you want?

The golden-winged roc's body is so huge,

how could I possibly finish a pair?

- Jia'er.\N- Coming!

One order of chicken wings.

Here.

This customer, enjoy.

Isn't this pheasant?

The roc has countless forms. This is its true form.

Try it and then you'll know.

I heard the golden-winged roc ate dragons.

Its pair of wings could blot out the sky and the sun. Why does it taste so average?

It doesn't taste anywhere as delicious as it's described in the scriptures.

Stinky brat, what nonsense are you saying?

My golden wings are known everywhere in Shendu City.

No one has ever said it tasted bad. You're not here to cause trouble are you?

Boss, you misunderstand me. I don't have this intention. But no matter how I think about it,

even the true form of the golden-winged roc

shouldn't be this tiny pheasant.

If you want to eat it, then eat it.

If you don't want to eat it, then get lost. You're bad luck.

This is obviously just pheasant meat.

It even tastes the same.

Can it be..

What are you doing?

You smell really nice.

You must be new to Shendu City.

This kind of place, any golden-winged roc you can eat,

or unicorn, or phoenix meat,

It's just made with other pork and chicken.

Everyone knows it's not made of real mythological animals.

We have to go.

- Why did we have to hide? \N- My family elder always want me to study.

It wasn't easy getting to Shendu City for a break. I haven't played enough yet.

Studying is very good. It can make you smarter.

I'm so smart. Do I need to keep studying?

I'm in the glory of my youth, that's the time for playing around and sleeping.

You like playing too much.

Aren't you happy when you're playing?

They're here again.

Excuse us, excuse us!

Excuse us!

You're from the Demon Clan?

You're quite impressive.

I'm Luo Luo. What's your name?

I'm Chen Changsheng. It's my first time in Shendu City.

Are you looking for a place to stay?

I do need to find a place to stay.

Then you got lucky!

I know an especially great inn. Let's go.

There's someone up ahead hiding from us.

It's over. Aren't they here to take me back?

Then what do we do? They seem quite strong.

You can even feel that?

Let's slip away.

Let's go.

Go.

Hurry and go.

Boss!

Coming, coming.

Welcome.

Your best room. Go.

- Okay. \N- Eh, no need no need.

A normal room is fine.

Hey, I like you.

You're my friend, so you must have the best. Go.

Let's not.

If I said I want it, then we'll take it. Go.

Hurry up.

Don't worry. I guarantee your satisfaction.

Slower.

I still have something to do, so I'm going to leave first.

Young mistress!

Do you know how dangerous it is to run around Shendu City by yourself?

In the future, without our protection, you can't just leave as you wish.

Please come in. This is the best room in our inn.

Please get settled in. If you need anything,

I'll do it for you.

Thank you, boss.

Jin Yulu is always with her. It's too difficult to attack her without causing a disturbance.

We can't attack her in the Floral Garden.

As long as she goes outside, we'll have a chance.

That girl has too many weapons. Using the long distance button randomly.

there's no way to grab her.

There is no way of shutting down the long distance button function.

I'll go borrow the Demon King's weapon, Mystic Smoke Net.

As long as the enchantment is formed, she won't be able to escape again.

I'm incompetent. Next time, I'll definitely kill the witch.

Junior Disciple,

I've brought you the 1,000 year old lotus root.

The 1000 year old lotus root seeds of Pure Lake can detoxify many poisons.

I think it can cure your injuries.

Lotus seeds are great. But the water's of Pure Lake are very cold.

Not to mention that there are monsters in the lake.

It's not an easy task for you to find a 1,000 year old lotus root from many in the lake.

This is nothing if you can get better.

Get better. I'll take my leave.

[Head Royal Attendant, Mo Yu]

Yourong.

You're injured. Who injured you. Are you all right?

I'm fine. Its just a minor scratch.

A Demon Clan woman, Nanke. She's a disciple of the Black Robe.

Black Robe?

Back then, he was the one who brought the great dragon to damage Shendu, and caused my mom's death.

If he's reappeared in the world, I can finally avenge my mom.

It's just that we still haven't found any trace of the Zhou Garden key.

Don't worry, Sister. You're still recuperating in the temple for the time being.

As for the key, I'll report it to the Empress.

Yourong is injured?

Yes, she was injured by the Demon Clan. Luckily, Qiushan Jun was by her side to protect her.

Looks like Black Robe is ready to make trouble again, and is coming out of retirement.

No wonder I've been feeling so unsettled lately.

Black Robe is of unknown origin and is very crafty.

If the Demon Clan is looking to cause trouble again, they'll definitely be heading toward Shendu.

Pass along my command. The entire city must be on guard.

Yes, ma'am.

Halt!

What are you trying to do?

I am from Xining town. I have important matters to discuss with your master.

Master is busy. He will not see somebody like you. Leave! Leave!

It's very important. Please tell your master.

Just wait here. I will let the master know.

What kind of person is that young man?

He is really from the clan and has a distinctive breathing pattern. Apparently he has not reached the Xi Sui (level of Kongfu) yet!

[ Xu Yourong's Mother, Madam Xu ]\NHe has not reached Xi Sui?

Xi Sui is the basic of learning Kongfu. His teacher is a medical elite.

Why wouldn't he have taught him that?

My Lady, is there really an engagement for our young miss?

Why is the Elder so determined to set this engagement for our young miss?

Before he died, the Elder has said it.

I also would have liked to ask him why this is so?

Okay! Go and ask the young man to come in.

Yes!

Changsheng greets Madam Xu.

Please have a seat!

The rest of you may leave.

Yes!

Haven't you visited the Tianshu Mausoleum yet?

What about the Naihe bridge?

Or go to the Ligong palace to look at the ivy.\NThe scenery is also superb.

I've never seen them before!

So, it seems that as soon as you arrived at Shendu City, you immediately came to the General's mansion?

I did not dare have any delay.

I will not agree with your marriage.

Therefore, the engagment letter you are taking out has no meaning at all.

Many years ago, our family's Rong'Er was saved by your master.

Our Elder arranged this engagement, of course, to save face;

therefore, agreed to this arrangement.

This type of tale only happens in drama.

If it wasn't those countrymen who have not seen the world before,

who would believe it?

I know...

you are a smart person. We should sit down like smart people and discuss calmly.

Now, you should carefully consider what's important!

What kind of compensation is enough? That would be closer to reality!

Besides the engagment, what would you like?

Say it!

May I ask why?

Isn't this a question a smart person should ask?

Although your master's medical skill is not bad, he is still an ordinary Taoist! And you...

are only a poor child dressed in old Taoist clothes.

My General's mansion is not a place for ordinary people to come and go.

Our Rong' Er is a phoenix re-incarnation!

How can one accept this type of engagement?

Is my explanation clear enough?

Clear enough!

The cup of tea on the table is the Ming dynasty butterfly tea.

Five silver tael can only buy one unit.

And this tea cup comes from the Royal kiln.

It is more expensive than gold.

The tea is getting cold, you haven't drank it yet!

This means that you are also not destined to drink this kind of tea.

You are not porcelain material, just a pile of rubble.

If you want to climb up to our social level to change your life,

young man, I recommend you don't wish too much!

In fact, you misunderstood.

Originally, the purpose of my visit to the General's mansion was to cancel the engagement.

What did you say?

But, now, I've changed my mind.

Let me just tell you the reason.

In this world, not all people covet your riches and honor.

My master saved your daughter in the past, and didn't ask for any reward. In any case,

you should not insult him.

If you do not apologize to my master, I will not hand back this engagement!

Farewell!

Shameless brat!

Little Taoist!

Lady, you are? I am Shuang'er; I am Miss's servant girl!

Is there really an engagement between Miss and you?

Indeed there is an engagement between myself and your miss.

Besides, I'm not a Taoist!

Please don't say that anymore!

I'm really not a Taoist!

That's not what I'm talking about!

You are just a commoner! How can you be associated with our miss?

Please remember. Don't mention this engagement to anyone; otherwise, you might encounter some difficulties.

General Mansion... If they want me dead, that's easy!

Just bury me under the flowers, used as fertilizer.

Right now, many pairs of eyes are on the General Mansion.

So, on the contrary, you are quite safe here.

But if the Lishan Sword Academy finds out, how will they think? What will the Qiushan family think?

Lishan Sword Academy and the Qiushan family?

That's right. Go inquire.

In Shendu, everybody knows that Qiushan Jun is already Misses real mate.

Is that so?

Perhaps?

Little Taoist!

No matter if you believe me or not, I came this time to really cancel the engagement.

Then, why did you not cancel it?

Because none of you asked for my name. Not even once.

I'm Chen Changsheng. Although my name is a little trivial, but I like it very much!

Chen Changsheng?

At first, I thought he was just an ignorant and arrogant boy.

Who could have known he is in fact just an insidious and dirty villain.

His master, after all, has an old relationship with our Xu family.

It's best to not make father's arranged marriage look too bad.

I'll handle this.

No need to let Yourong worry about it.

I hope this boy will know when to back out!

Timing and Subtitles by the Subbers of the Destiny @ Viki

To the Holy Empress, the six Ivy academies are planning the recruitment as well as making preparations for the Grand Examination.

Please approve the recruitment document.

My orders to the academies: Choose an auspicious day to recruit the students.

Be careful. Don't let the Demon Clan come inside Shendu City.

Yes.

I hope each era will bring forth new talent.

One day, we'll get rid of the Demon Clan.

We will bear your instructions in our minds.

The Ivy banquet before the Grand Examination should be under the full responsibility of Prince Chenliu.

Mo Yu, you'll assist!

I'll accept the order.

May I dare to ask the Holy Empress about the re-opening of the Guojiao Academy?

Don't mention this.

If the Guojiao Academy had not done such unacceptable things that time,

the talents selected from the six Ivy academies

would definitely have been superior to those of other races.

If there's nothing else,

dismiss!

When the six academies recruit students, Shendu will become lively again.

That's right.

How about Your Majesty and I have a bet?

Among students from the six academies, who can win first place in the Grand Examination.

You, little girl, is making me happy again!

What do you want to bet on?

The Grand Examination takes place once every three years. Of course, I have to join the fun.

Just bet? The tea that Her Majesty had recently. The Congyu New Tea of the Demon Clan.

All right.

Each academy has elites! Who are you betting for?

I'll bet on Tiandao Academy.

The little young master of the Tianhai family is trying to enter the Tiandao Academy through examination.

He is also strong. He will surely get a high rank in the Grand Examination.

You mean Ya'er? How can he be compared to Yourong and Senior Disciple Qiushan?

He is frivolous. If he doesn't cause trouble for the Tianhai family, it will be good.

It's a pity that Yourong won't take part in the Grand Examination.

The white tiger in the Beast Clan and the peacock in the Demon Clan are definitely a little weaker.

How's Yourong's injury?

When she's better, have her come see me.

Yes.

Hey, Sister Mo. Sister Mo.

[Divine Empress Tianhai's Nephew, Tianhai Ya'er]\NDon't avoid me so much!

Betweeen Monarch Chenliu and I, you will have to finally choose one of us!

If you go with Prince Chenliu, the wimp, you will be bored.

Sir Ya'er, you're still young.

Whoever I'm together with, it's not for you to care about. His Majesty warned you.

That's right.

Your spouse will be arranged by my aunt, the Holy Empress.

My aunt dearly loves me so much! You will sooner or later become a member of the Tianhai family.

Young Master Ya'er, when you go to the Tiandao Academy, you should study diligently, and reduce your evil practices.

Although the Tianhai family is the home of Her Majesty;

however, you also have to take into consideration the people's prestige.

No need for you to lecture me.

I know how the people of Shendu City comment on the Tianhai family.

Arrogant, domineering, rampant and afraid of no one!

But so what?

Sir Ya'er.

My aunt is in a positon, and if I cannot do what I want and enjoy the pleasures of the situation,

shall I wait until the Chen Royal family step all over me?

I'll beat up whoever I don't like.

For sure, Auntie won't punish me again.

Hey!

Sister Mo!

- Brother Yang! You are here again this year to take the Tiandao Academy examination.\N- So are you!

Hey.

Looking at how you're dressed, you must be new to Shendu City.

Yes, my name is Chen Changsheng. I'm from Xining Town. I'm preparing to take the test for the six Ivy academies.

My master once said: Only when I can enter the six Ivy academies, will I get a chance to take the Imperial Examination. Then I can enter the Linxu Pavilion.

He wants to enter the Lingxu Pavilion?

Huh! Aya!!

Why don't you take a better look at yourself.

Don't listen to them.

These snobs look down on people, though they are useless.

But the Tiandao Academy is the best among the six Ivy academies and is the hardest to enter.

Then, what about the other five academies?

If you want to join the army, you can go to the Star Hunting Academy.

The Qingyao Academy only admits female students. You won't be able to join.

Cultivation in the Zongsi Academy is the most cruel!

These 3 academies are easier to enter than the Tiandao academy.

The Lishan academy never sets examinations, they pick students themselves.

Many thanks for the information.

- What about the Guojiao academy, then?\N- The Guojiao academy?

Hey, what's that?!

Who's that?

- Tang Thirty-Six, isn't it?\N- Yes, it is!

[Eldest Son of the Wenshui Tang Family, Tang Tang]

Look! He usually rides mythical animals, why is he wearing a pair of wings today?

He is the famous Tang Thirty-Six, the eldest young master of the Wenshui Tang family.

Even during examination, he never forgets to show his wealth!

If I were of the Wenshui Tang family and had money, I would be one in the Qingyun chart as well.

You're not bad.

Your wings are very exquisite!

Of course, they're called Wings of the Future.

They're created from the inspiration of the Great Bird!

Look. There's a Peng character written on the back!

There will be a day when it will fly faster than the Great Bird.

That will probably be very difficult.

Your design has problems.

How is that possible? The first time I created the wings, I flew off the clock tower.

Now, there's no need to go that high! It's fine from the roof!

That's because you are using the wind to fly.

If you add a wind formation, you would be able to take off without the help of the wind.

That's right...

Then continue, what other problems do these wings have?

Here.

When the wings start to flap, it should be faster and stronger.

There are also those feathers. They are not suited for gliding.

The Human Clan are heavier; ascending wings will be more appropriate.

Feathers should be short and wide. Leave some space. This way, you will be able to use the airflow to rise, saving some effort.

So it was like that?

You're just as smart as me!

I'm called Tang Thirty-Six. What's your name?

Chen Changsheng.
