Originally inhabited by the San,
Himba and Herero people,

the country gets its name
from the Namib Desert...

..an Indigenous word
meaning 'vast place'.

This is the oldest desert
in the entire world,

dating back at least
55 million years.

With nothing but sand
as far as the eye can see,

it's not hard to find yourself
getting lost in a place like this.

Welcome to the extraordinary
Namib Desert,

the location for the seventh leg
of The Amazing Race, Australia.

Our six remaining teams have taken
a flight to Walvis Bay, Namibia,

and are being released
in the order they arrived

at the previous Pit Stop.

A Detour is a choice
between two challenges,

each with its own pros and cons.

In this Detour, teams must choose
between two by two or four by four.

Dune 7 is the tallest
sand dune in Namibia.

In its shadow is Peter's Pan,

a flat basin and the starting point

for teams choosing two by two.

They'll have to scale this massive
dune on foot.

At almost 400m tall,

it's a gruelling test of endurance
and willpower.

Once they reach the summit,
they'll have to sandboard

all the way down to retrieve
their next clue.

Some of our teams might not like it.

It was at this exact moment
when I realised I don't like heights.

Ah! I knew I should have done
Survivor instead of this.

On the other side of Dune 7

is Snake Bend Pan.

Teams who choose four by four must
complete an extreme 12K drive

through the dunes
that requires nerves of steel.

Maintaining a constant speed
is crucial to prevent sinking

in the soft sand.

Getting bogged will cost
you valuable time.

A judge will ride with each team,
watching their every move.

Once a team completes a clean run,
they'll receive their next clue.

Now, there's only three spots
available at each Detour,

so teams better get in quick if they
want to secure their first choice.

..which you'll catch a whiff of
from over a kilometre away.

Teams must be driven by a guide
through this nature reserve

to the seals.

From there, they'll kayak
into the icy waters of the Atlantic.

They must navigate
through the seal colony

and locate four floating buoys

containing facts
about the local sea life.

They'll need to take in everything
that's written on each board,

so they'd better keep a sharp eye.

Back on land, a local sea life expert
will ask one simple question

to test their memory.

If they get it right,
they'll receive their next clue.

Now, all that remains is this dry
riverbed, known as Tumas Pan.

Teams are now racing their way
through Dorob National Park,

where I'll be hanging out
with park warden Frida.

It's hot, it's dusty.

It's in the middle of nowhere.

It's where our teams will find me
for the extremely dry Pit Stop

for the seventh leg
of The Amazing Race, Australia.
