EXCALIBUR ACADEMY - TWO YEARS AGO

The swordsmanship taught by my sisters is engraved in my heart.

If a Holy Sword takes the shape of your soul then mine will be a sword.

Stop trying to do such hopeless things.

Musel Rhodes.

There's no need for you to be out here training.

I said I'd let you join my platoon.

I'm alright.

How long can you hold out?

You, who can't awaken your Holy Sword.

Take your hands off Milady!

Activate Holy Sword!

Private combat with Holy Swords is prohibited.

Why don't you go cool off?

You'd be able to instantly kill the likes of him once you awaken your Holy Sword!

That's not why I want a Holy Sword!

I wonder if I'll ever be able to...

You will! Without a doubt!

Good morning.

Weren't we in the bathroom?

I carried you here.

I used magic so I didn't actually touch you.

Nor look at all.

Just what are you?

I am an ancient magician who has come back to life.

In my time, humans used magic as well.

Through that magic, I brought you back to life as my vassal.

You didn't do it with a Holy Sword?

Tenth-grade spell Create Elder Undead was honestly a gamble.

But the results are better than I imagined.

You are now the highest rank of undead.

You are a vampire queen!

A vampire? Me?

Yesterday, the lack of magical power made you feel sick.

You can tell because you were trying to suck blood.

It was a natural reaction to you requiring more magic.

I guess I really did die then.

I'm sorry.

That was the only way I could save you.

Is it okay if I tell you something about me?

Yes.

When I was nine, my town was attacked by Voids.

A mass outbreak of Voids called the Stampede.

My entire family were Holy Swordsmen.

They fought to protect our people and died.

Regina and I who survived in the shelter were taken in by the Excalibur Academy.

They had high hopes for my lineage as a Holy Swordsman.

I heard your sword awakens faster if you fight the Voids.

With that in mind, I took part in a dangerous mission.

However...

So she hasn't lived up to expectations?

Do you think someone who died like I did will be able to wield a Holy Sword?

I don't know.

But you'll be stronger than ever.

Is that right?

Oh?

You haven't eaten anything since last night, huh?

Even though you're a growing boy.

Do not worry!

This body is completely uncontrollable.

I'm not hungry though.

Am I able to eat?

Of course it is possible for the higher class of vampires.

However, converting food into magical power is inefficient.

I see. Leo, what will you eat?

I'll have bread.

I've never seen any of these other dishes.

Bread alone is not enough. It will be nutritionally unbalanced.

Nutrition...

An undead like you is one to talk.

I'm sorry...

So mean...

She's unlike me, who was guided by Roselia and willingly became undead.

I'll order for you too Leo.

Please do, and I'll pay!

Huh?

Hmph!

So surprised she's speechless.

Is that...?

It's a Raydoa gold coin!

With this single coin I could buy this whole restaurant.

Umm...

You can't use that.

Tactical City is all credit payment.

Even so, pure gold ought to still be extremely valuable.

Actually, not really.

Magic forged silver is much more expensive.

The Dark Lord's army's best military fund... Two thousand gold coins...

Has no value?

I paid in full what I lost.

You forgot, there is interest.

I don't have anything on me.

Could you wait until I get paid next week?

We can't wait without any insurance.

That's some nice quality cloth.

We can wait if you let us hold onto it.

Don't touch me.

-What was that!? -Hurry up and...

Oh!

I'm a student here.

I won't run away or hide. Come pick it up next week.

Seems like a pretty good swordsman.

Sakuya, who were those guys?

Those are guards from the casino.

They came to collect money, but I asked them to wait.

You got a bad score and had to take extra lessons, right?

I'm sorry that I couldn't accompany you on the mission.

After supplementary lessons, I gambled all night to vent.

Thanks to that, I'm completely broke!

Oh! You have some fancy looking old coins there.

I guess you're the boy who wields a Holy Sword?

So you heard from Finé.

Sakuya is my platoon's vanguard attacker.

She's one of the few first-year students who has taken down a Void on her own.

Sakuya Sieglinde, pleased to meet you!

I'm Leonis Magnus.

Just as I thought.

This is the hand of someone who lives by the sword.

I'll will pay this time for both of you.

Thank you!

Much appreciated!

Sakuya, your clothes are different from the school uniform.

This is the traditional clothing of my homeland, Oran.

A memento from my sister.

My entire village was killed by the Voids.

It's my mission to destroy them.

Another one out for revenge...

Sakuya, where's the money you lost to me two days ago?

Could you wait until next week?

You're always gambling, that's why you get bad scores.

My name is Degrasse Alto and I am the inquisitor here.

Nice to meet you!

At ease.

This inquisition is just to check your type of Holy Sword.

Let's start, please show us your Holy Sword.

Yes ma'am.

Come forth! Staff of Sealed Sins!

A staff? What type of power is it?

Um, I think it's a support type.

Depending on the situation...

I see, it's a universal type.

What are those?

Simulated Voids.

That's what we fight against.

If it is a support type, a vanguard is required to see its power.

He destroyed Voids made from metahalcon.

Uh oh. I barely even touched them.

I thought you said it was a support type!?

What was that?

Maybe I hit them in the wrong spot...

There's no way!

Now they're suspicious...

-What was that? -What happened?

We'll have to look into this further.

Have to prepare some replacement simulators.

I'll stand in as a replacement.

-Hmm? -What?

Musel Rhodes.

I'll be in charge of his inquisition.

As a first-class government official, I have that qualification.

Sure, that'll be fine.

So you are going to stand in for that pile of trash over there?

Insolent child.

Activate Holy Sword!

It's cowardly to have four people versus one.

This is my Holy Sword, the power of Dominion!

Complete control!

These guys are part of my weapon.

It does make sense.

So I just need to defeat you and those four, right?

If he takes over as lead of the inquisition, then yes.

Then I'm joining in too!

I'm Leo's guardian.

That also makes sense.

Sure. But I have one condition.

What?

If you lose then you join my platoon.

What did you say!?

-Okay. -Huh!?

However, if you lose, then you have to stop pursuing Selia.

Sure.

Leo!

I don't plan on letting the likes of him take away one of my vassals.

Okay!

Instructor, give us the training sword devices!

Use whatever you like!

You lose if you surrender or can no longer fight.

If things get out of hand I will stop the fight.

So begins a duel using Holy Swords!

What!?

Get out of my way!

Oh, now that is well trained swordsmanship!

It's not just because of her vampire strength.

Hey! Go get that kid!

Leo!

I'll be okay!

This time I need to be extra careful to go easy.

Come forth! Undead of the Kingdom of Shadows!

Mesta Morde!

So your plan is to run away and use girls as shield?

-She's right! -Don't run away!

I overslept and now I'm missing the Holy Sword Examination!

Milady!?

Why is Milady out there?

There are no more shields to protect you.

Why can't...

This is the power of complete control!

The force!

Did you start to get your hopes up there?

Despite there being no way you'd ever be able to beat me.

Well, first of all, let's get rid of that eyesore.

I guess I'll take on the rest.

Overall inexperienced, but there were highlights.

I'm going to protect Leo...

I'm going to protect Leo...

I'm going to protect Leo...

I'm going to protect Leo...

Even without a Holy Sword!

I will protect Leo!

Is that... a Holy Sword!?

A forgotten keepsake of the Crystalia family.

She broke through my control spell!?

My Holy Sword!?

What will it be?

I... I surrender...

Milady!

I always believed in you!

I told you that you'd awaken your Holy Sword!

Thank you Regina!

This is my Holy Sword!

Thank you Leo!

No need for any thanks.

You are one of my vassals, Selia.

Speaking of which, what do you mean by vassal?

A vassal is meant to protect their lord.

Gotcha. I'll keep on protecting you then!

I do have a request though.

What is it?

I want you to make me stronger.

That is also exactly what I want to do.

In celebration of the awakening

of Selia's Holy Sword and Leo's joining of the 18th platoon!

Amazing!

Regina prepared all of this!

Congratulations Selia! It is really amazing!

I also wanted to see the moment when Selia's training was rewarded.

What kind of Holy Sword is it?

It's light and cuts well.

So how about Sacred Sword Ripper Bun Bun Maru for its name?

No, Shining Saint Sword is good!

I still feel like I haven't been able to bring out its true power.

I'll name it after I've learned to use it.

You're also one of our friends starting today, boy!

Ah, that's right Leo!

Biometric information will be incorporated into the verification network.

Come by my room later.

Okay!

Speaking of rooms, where will you be living?

The open room is being used as a closet so there's nowhere to sleep.

You want to come to my room?

I've got all you can eat homemade snacks!

Or you can come to my room.

No need to worry cause I'm never there!

My room will be okay too!

I'll help you study!

N-No!

Milady?

I think it will be best for Leo to stay in my room.

-Why is that? -Umm, well...

Selia is the one who found me.

That's right, so I am Leo's guardian!

I also feel at ease in Selia's room.

Well, if the boy says so...

Alright, it's decided.

No problems here!

Living in the same room is more convenient for keeping each other's secrets.

This is your Holy Sword, isn't it Elfiné?

Eye of the Witch.

It's main power is to gather, analyze and send data.

Now, that is...

Now?

In my previous state, I was an attacker in charge of firepower.

But while on a mission

two of my friends were killed by Voids right in front of me.

From that moment my Holy Sword lost its original power.

When I could no longer fight, only Selia invited me to her platoon.

Alright, we finished your registration.

Despite looking innocent, you look at breasts a lot.

What data did you gather!?

I'm just kidding!

Is that a map?

-Yes! -Could you show me?

I can give you one of our extra devices.

I don't know how it's made.

But just like she said, it's easy to use.

Deathhold is here.

The place I am now is the wilderness of Sidon.

I'm sure that a thousand years ago, it was regular land.

This is where my army and the Archsage Arakael fiercely fought.

There appears to be a correlation between

the occurrence of Voids and past battlefields.

Blackas!

You called for me, my friend?

Please explain to me about what you have found so far.

Actually, I've found something very interesting.

There is a giant magic crystal deep in the heart of this floating island.

The humans called it the magical furnace.

Hmph...

The Dark Lord Dizolf used a magic crystal to move his castle,

It must be similar.

It's a completely different level of magic.

Moreover, they've built a complex circuit

to distribute magical power throughout the city.

Some formidable technology.

However, if we make it ours, it will become a force for us.

I had a similar thought.

I'll continue the investigation.

I'm counting on you!

I have returned, my Lord.

Perfect timing.

Shary, give me your update.

It is inside this...

What is it?

This is a snack they call, "doughnuts."

Why is there a hole in it?

I believe it is to allow it to evenly cook.

How is it?

Delicious!

I also bought some other things.

There's cream puffs and this stretchy ice cream...

Wait! I don't need any more food info.

Don't tell me you've just been messing around.

I was also gathering intel.

In this city,

no one knows of you Dark Lord, or the war that happened a thousand years ago.

I guess I was right.

But it is odd they have forgotten such a large war.

Dark Lord.

You made that girl a vassal.

Is that a problem?

Forget it...

You fool...

Hey, I heard that!

How dare you call your lord a fool!?

She is the ultimate level of undead.

She's a vampire queen!

If I train her, she will become my ultimate weapon and confidant.

A confidant?

What are you so angry about?

Nothing. I just don't like you, Lord.

I've never really understood you, not then or now...

Leo?

Yes!?

The bath is free, go ahead!

Okay!

She's way too unguarded...

Number zero three reporting in.

Currently there has been no Void contact.

Roger that.

Increase your operating area and continue the investigation.

Wait, what is that?

Leonis!

URGENT SUMMONS

Welcome to our part of the show.

Alright everyone, check out this amazing magic.

-Amazing! -Yes!

-Hey! What's happening! -That's all the time we have.
