Narrator: Thundarr the Barbarian!
The year 1994,
from out of the space comes a runaway planet
hurtling between the Earth and the Moon,
unleashing cosmic destruction.
[wave crashing]
Man's civilization is cast in ruin.
[explosion]
Two thousand years later, Earth is reborn.
A strange new world rises from the old.
A world of savagery, super-science and sorcery.
But one man bursts his bonds to fight for justice
with his companions Ookla the Mok
and Princess Ariel.
He pits his strength, his courage
and his fabulous sunsword against the forces of evil.
[growling]
He is Thundarr the Barbarian.
Narrator: We now return with "Thundarr the Barbarian."
[instrumental music]
Ariel: This was a famous pleasure city
of the ancients called Las Vegas.
People came here to watch spectacles, to feast,
and to play games of chance,
but that was long, long ago.
Nothing here now, but a simple village.
Simple and deserted.
Their dinner still roasts on the spit.
They left in haste.
It's like someone scooped them all up
in the middle of their chores.
[grams]
[screams]
Ookla, your curiosity will get the best of you yet.
[Zapping]
Thundarr! We're under attack.
[growling]
[explosion]
This is Wizard's work.
[Zapping]
Ookla, we need you to even the odds.
[growling]
[crashing]
They're trying to surround us.
[Zapping]
[intense music]
Thundarr: They're taking us to that Wizard's stronghold.
[whirring]
Help. Please help us. Let us out.
Humans caged like animals.
They must be the villagers.
[instrumental music]
You're right, barbarian. They are the villagers.
And you are excellent fighters,
far better than those weaklings in my cage.
I am Sholo.
And you three shall compete for me in Race of the Wizards.
Never! Nothing could ever make me play our evil games.
[grams]
Not even the Helmet of Power?
The Helmet of Power?
If you don't win it for me,
maybe Scorpos will get it.
Or maybe even Mazam
or perhaps Chom.
Any wizard who wears the Helmet of Power
wins unlimited magical power.
Then none of these dogs shall have it.
[whirring]
Cowards. Your death machines don't frighten me.
Thundarr!
There will be no battle for now.
You three will race for me or...
Ur?
[Zapping]
Demon dogs.
Choose your weapon, Thundarr,
or the villagers come crashing to the ground.
If we race, the villagers go free.
[grams]
Agreed. If you win the Helmet of Power.
You made the right choice.
- There was no choice. - Come.
You must prepare. The race begins at dawn.
[instrumental music]
No good can come of this race.
Ariel: We can't let one of the other wizards
get the Helmet of Power.
Thundarr: Nor can Sholo be trusted with such power.
Once we win the helmet, we must find a way to destroy it.
The team that brings it back wins.
Beware the dangers of the canyon.
And beware of each other.
The Helmet of Power rests in a huge white monolith
at the end of the Canyon of Doom.
The race is on!
[explodes]
[shirring]
[whirring]
I'll wager 10,000 of my humans
that Sholo's team cannot complete half the race.
I accept your wager, Scorpos.
The barbarian seems as stubborn as he is strong.
Come, let us watch the race from inside.
My view screen will follow the racers wherever they go.
[panting] The other team seems to be miles ahead of us.
Or they may be waiting in ambush.
[laughs]
My scorpion machine
will make mincemeat out of them.
Thundarr, Ookla.
[crashing]
Treachery. And the race is hardly begun.
[whirring]
[growling]
This should short their circuits.
[hissing]
[thuds]
[roaring]
[growling]
The scorpion machine awoke a grizzly snake.
Get away from there, you fools.
That grizzly snake can destroy you.
[intense music]
Thundarr!
You won't feed
on barbarian today.
[Zapping]
[growling]
You won't feed on sorcerers, either.
Into the canyon with you.
Back to sleep.
[growling]
He won't be slithering back for a while.
Come, we've lost precious time.
Give up now, Sholo.
Your barbarian will never catch up with our machines.
Our horses need rest and water before continuing the race.
Hm! That tastes good after that dry dusty ride.
[growling]
That sound.
It's the wheel machine waiting in ambush.
[whirring]
Ride. Out in the open where we can fight it.
[intense music]
It's shielded against my magic.
[grunts]
Ariel!
[grams]
[grunts]
[whirring]
I don't know if we can stop it, Thundarr.
Thundarr knows.
[whirring]
[instrumental music]
[laughs]
My barbarian is tougher than you thought, Chom.
Mazam: Sholo's team is more than halfway to the monolith
and the Helmet of Power.
I win our little wager, Scorpos.
Now watch as my team disposes of Thundarr.
[Zapping]
[thunder cracks]
[explosion]
Uh-oh. Stormy weather brewing.
A death storm.
The horses could outrun the storm.
But we dare not turn back. Go, find safety.
We must stay and brave the storm.
[thunder crashing]
Ariel: Acid rain!
It's dissolving the rock all around us.
[rumbling]
Cave in!
The roof's caving in. We're trapped!
[growling]
We won't leave without you, old friend.
Let's
[crumbling]
We need protection from this acid rain.
[shimmering]
We should be safe here.
More fireballs. Stay back.
[explosion]
The death storm is over. Come on, Thundarr.
We need transportation to catch up with the other teams.
This ancient sand buggy was designed
to travel country like this.
[growling]
It's been buried for ages. How can we make it work?
Maybe my magic can start it.
Come on, Ookla, let's see if this thing will move.
- Mh! Maybe I'd better drive. - No.
[growling]
Ingenious, Sholo, but my team will get the helmet first.
Don't be so certain, Mazam.
We must hurry to the white monolith.
[tires screeching]
That's one of the ancient's great dams.
I believe it was called Hoover Dam.
It's a man-made monolith
created ages ago
to provide energy to run machines.
[growling]
Thundarr: The Wizard's machines. They arrived first.
And while they're busy battling each other,
we'll get the Helmet of Power.
[Zapping]
[instrumental music]
This looks like the place.
[growling]
You can still feel the power surging through this place.
Thundarr: The devices are still. The men who ran them are gone.
You imagine things, Ariel.
The Manta Machine. Take cover.
[whizzing]
[intense music]
Face me, destroyer,
and meet your own destruction.
[yells]
[crashing]
The Helmet of Power. We've won.
Not yet. Not until Sholo, too, has been beaten.
Come, let's find our horses and return.
[instrumental music]
The other wizards departed
once they witnessed your victory, Thundarr.
Or should I say my victory?
Remember our bargain, wizard.
Free the humans from their cage.
Bargain?
With this helmet, I need honor no bargain.
He's tricked us!
[Zapping]
[laughing]
You are too dangerous to go free.
Drones, take them to the roof pens.
I shall dispose of them at my pleasure.
[growling]
Fair warning, wizard.
Thundarr will have his vengeance.
[laughs]
Sholo's prison cells.
They cannot hold Thundarr.
[Zapping]
[instrumental music]
[growling]
Uh-oh. Here comes reinforcements.
That should hold them.
I guess I spoke too soon.
- Quick, over the edge? - What?
[growling]
[screaming]
[exploding]
The drones are finished.
Sholo will be next.
Any sign of Sholo?
Yes, and my sun sword.
[screaming]
You!
You were warned, Sholo!
Now face Thundarr's wrath.
Not to mention ours.
[Zapping]
[laughs]
You want to play games. Eh? That suits me fine.
[growling]
[Zapping]
[growling]
[Zapping]
Lords of light!
The Helmet of Power cannot affect this metal.
It's silver, Thundarr.
And we shall use it against him.
How will you stop Thundarr now, sorcerer?
One more step, barbarian,
and you'll never see the human prisoners again.
[growling]
Now, wizard,
say farewell to your precious helmet.
Fool! You'll destroy the helmet and yourself!
[crackling]
No! You'll pay for this.
Barbaric fool!
Sholo, don't.
The helmet is damaged. You can't control its magic.
I will destroy you, Thundarr.
[explosion]
[growling]
The Helmet of Power destroyed itself, Ookla.
Its menace is gone forever.
What of Sholo? Where is he?
[growling]
The magic imprisoned him in that machine forever.
Now he knows how it feels to be someone else's plaything.
Come, let us take our leave.
[instrumental music]
[theme music]
[music continues]
