There

you go.

Well done. Thank you.

Oh, yeah, it's coming in.

Come on, come on, come on, get up.

You watch what you're doing. It was your

fault. You've got no manners. Shut up.

Watch your tongue. Hey,

easy. HuhPlease.

Well, teacher, come on. Huh

Don't take some bitch

ohh

You're cowards.

Come on. Let's go.

Pai Long.

Uncle Phan. Pai Long. You got here

early. later.

Hello. It's you.

Yeah, just got out.

Hey, what is this? It's all changed.

You're right. There's been a lot of

changes since you left a rich Westerner

bought the place. chained everything.

He runs gambling here, and goes as well.

Makes the bundle. Come along. I mean, how

could he, huhHey, miss!

Let's have some wine! Hi!

Mr. Chen, now please come again. Oh, I

sure will. But listen, Mary, next time...

Make sure you get a really young one.

Don't like me. I like all of you.

Well, I must go. Bye-bye. Bye-bye.

Bye-bye.

That's the boss's wife, Mary. Ohh

Pylon, now tell me, what are you going to

do?

Not sure yet. Hey,

look. What's that girl doing now?

Who?

Miss Snow, of course.

You don't know?She...

She's married now.

But you left she married to who?

What?

She married Choo Hoo. Yeah.

And I feel very sorry for the poor girl.

Choo Hoo's turned out to be really

worthless, because after his father died,

he let the whole lumber camp business run

down. And he drinks and gambles all day.

He owes a lot of money.

Matter of fact, I think he's in there

gambling now.

I won, didn't I?I didn't lose.

Not your hoe. You left that fair and

square, didn't you?I didn't.

I didn't lose again. Get

me out.

Let's fix him. Right. Come here. Yeah,

you

got him.

All right, now what's going on with you?

Let's go around him. He's Mr. Welsh.

What do you want?I'm surprised you've got

the nerve to come here. Miss

Chu, I just brought your bella back.

There's no need, but now that you've

brought him, just get out of here.

It's you.

Listen, I never want to see you around

here again. Miss Chu,

be reasonable. I never meant to kill your

father. What's more,

I've done my time for it.

I only want to talk. I don't care! Get

out! Get out!And don't

you dare come back here again!

Mama! Mama! Master!

Master!

HuhPut that?

Never mind. Let's go inside.

Captain?

All right, what is it?I just heard.

Thought you would've know. I long back.

How long?YeahTake these favors to the

city right away.

Right.

Coo, you're back. Listen, Mr.

Coo's tired now. Please take him some

wine.

Hello. That's good. It's you, huh

That safe is looking for you. To teach

you a lesson.

Right.

Damn you! You're lucky to get away with

this!

Oh yeah?

If you think I can't, try and stop me.

Just you try.

Hold it! Hold it!

Now, we don't allow fights here, and

you know it.

Captain, this guy here, he-- Shut up.

Keep out of this. I'm the law,

and I'll settle this.

Now listen here, you. You're just out of

jail. I warn you.

One false move, just one,

and you'll be back there. Huh

I may have been in jail, but as long as I

don't break any of your laws,

then you can't touch me. You've

broken the law, and I'm arresting you

right now for disturbing that peace. Got

that?Take him! Right. Wait,

Captain.

It's just a small thing. Don't be too

harsh. Wasn't all his fault.

Anyway, it is my place.

All right. If that's what you want.

But if there's more trouble, I'll beback.

Mr. Tim?Yeah?How much?

That's all right. Just forget it. Here.

Come inside. Come on. Come with me. Come

on. Come on

Listen, I'm going to the casino to pay

off my brother's debt. Go without me. Get

into the shopping.

Listen. Why, though?

Tell me. Why'd you marry that man?

You can't have changed, not that much,

even though it's been five years. I don't

believe it. You can't love Chu Hu.

Please don't. Leave me alone.

You remember?You,

me, our promise.

You said there were only two men for you.

That's me and Captain Lee.

And you swore that you'd never marry

anyone else.

I know. I can't reproach you. I've got no

right. But still.

I still want you. You know that.

It's no good. So please don't talk

about it now.

You mustn't see me again. I beg

you. It can only make trouble.

Oh, this is Miss Chu come to see you. Oh,

to who's sister?How can I help you?I've

come here to pay my brother's debts.

That's good. You must be a very unusual

person. I must say, he's lucky to

have such a sister. Cut that out.

How much is it?

Hmm

$2,900. $3,000. Keep the change.

Thank you.

That's that. And please don't cheat my

brother anymore. Hmm

If he loses here again, then I'm warning

you. You'll never get a scent of what he

owes. HmmBecause I'm certainly never

going to bail him out again. Hmm

Get some, man. and see that she gets

taught a lesson. Bye.

All right, we're gonna teach you a few

minutes, stupid bitch

Who are you?It's

you. You go home.

Why'd you help?

I won't thank you.

Well, I don't care if you don't. But I

tell you, don't you get into trouble

again, or you'll get hurt.

Wait.

Tell me, why'd you wear a mask?

I do hope that I'm not interrupting

something. Uh, it's you.

Well now, when'd you get back?Last night.

Well, your family's looking all over for

you. Better go back. Uh, I'll

go now.

Pylon. I'd

like to talk with you. Thank you for the

time.

Talk about what?

Not much. Just some advice.

What advice? You're out of jail now. Your

leg's in front of you. Don't mess it up.

Try and settle down. Don't you worry.

I'll do all right.

Listen. Why did Miss Snow marry Chu

Hu?

You liked her a lot. How come that you

let her marry him?What happened?

Just what went wrong?

Yeah. I always

wanted to marry her.

But still. But still. But still what?

She marries this creep, and you do

nothing. No, that's not

true. I asked her.

No use. She loved you, not me.

In that case, why did she have to marry

him?Why not you?You see,

she couldn't. Ohh

What's more, you're the reason she

couldn't.

Damn it! That thing again?

You know what makes me mad?Hey!

Why'd you do that?

All right. What's wrong with you?Why are

you so different?

Because your girlfriend's back.

HuhGirlfriend?

You?You accuse me?

You may be right, but so what?I'm

still a lot better than you are. You bit

you?

Just look at you always so innocent, but

inside you're rotten. When we

married, you were pregnant already.

Keep your voice down, otherwise they'll

hear you. What do I care?

I don't give a damn if they don't know

about it. If it hadn't been for me, you'd

have had to die. Huh

You know that?I saved your life.

Stop crying. It'll bring me bad luck.

And I don't need death.

Look, I'm going gambling. Where's the

money?There isn't any money.

And your sister paid off your debts this

morning. You stole her savings.

In that case...

I can borrow more!

No! You can't go gambling again! I

shall!

Hey, listen. My sister told me she paid

off all my debts with you yesterday. Can

I borrow again? But if you lose it,

though, would you repay me?

I'd be pleased to lend you some.

If you can repay.

I've got a house on some land.

If you like, I'll mortgage it to you.

Worth a lot. Mortgage?

No thanks. Well,

what what do you want?Sell it to me.

Right. I will. I'll sell it.

But let's get one thing straight, though.

No complaining if you lose. Oh, sure. Of

course not. Right. You can have

2,000 first. And if you should lose

that, well, all right,

you can have more. But you make sure that

you bring me those deeds tomorrow. And

don't forget.

OK, OK, OKAll right.

Come on, come onCome on, have your

bed. Come on, have your bed. Come on. See

what you got there. Come on. Head over

here. All right. Come on, get

some. Now hold it. Come

on. OK, now then. Let's see what we

got. Huh

Hey. That

one wins.

Go on, come on. Come onCome

on, get your bets down. Come on. Get your

bets down. Let's go.

Get

your rest

down.

First time for months. I knew that I had

to get lucky, huh

All right, let's go. I'll get your shirt

down. Right.

Listen, how could you, though?

Why are you butting in?What do you want,

ehGo away! Coming to get enough?

You've already ruined the family. You're

coming home!

Look, come on, we're going! Now

look, I was winning! Come on!

You're coming!

What is all this? What's going on?

You lousy crooks, you! You're just a

bunch of cheats, all of you! Huh

I'll show you! Right!

Goddamn you. You again. Well, all right.

I'll fix you.

Bam!

Hey, now don't get mad. Do you remember

what you said?You wouldn't interfere.

All right. Well, don't try it.

We're no longer friends. That's

too bad. It's not my fault.

I just don't have a choice. I've got to

help her.

Well, Miss Chu, I'll see you home now.

Mr. Who?Mr. Who?

Give him the tin. And don't forget to

bring those papers tomorrow. Oh, right,

right

Why did you let him get away?

I intend to use intelligence, not this.

I have an idea.

Thanks for helping me. Oh, that's all

right. Go home now.

Pylon.

If you've time, I'd like a talk. What

about tomorrow?Oh.

All right.

But where?Fish Lake.

Thank you, once again. And I'm sorry I

was so rude to you. Yeah, it's all right,

as long as you don't hate me anymore.

When Father died, I went away to

study. When I'd gone, my

brother ruined the business. Right now,

we're nearly broke. That's

why I wanted to talk. Perhaps you could

advise us sometime. We really need help.

When Pilon gets back, get him away so

that he won't bother us. All right.

Today we must get those deeds. We've

already waited for them too long. I

know. I leave the trap yesterday.

As soon as Choo-hoo shows up, why then,

he'll never leave this place alive.

When we get the property as we planned,

the general insists we then pass it on to

him. I know that. Choo-hoo is a

damn stupid fool. He still doesn't

realize there's a mountain of gold hidden

underneath that lumber mill.

HuhPlease.

So what?It's you.

You who is getting worse. Quarrels all

the time. Oh, but

why?

He's afraid that I'm interested in Pai

Lung. I'm scared he'll tell the truth

about our son. I see.

You mustn't say anything to Pai Lung

about this, or there'll be trouble. Hmm

He's still fond of you. I'm sure of it.

The only reason I married you

was to avoid humiliation.

Don't get upset. I'll help you.

We'll think of something.

How much to win last night?

Quite a lot. 2005.

OK.

Hey up.

Huh I've invited a number of my rich

friends to come along here for a small

game today. It ought to be quite a good

game. Would you like to join us?

Don't worry. I'll be helping you.

With only a little bit of luck, you could

pick up quite a packet here.

How long?You going?Yeah. The boat's

ready. Ah, thank you.

My bear.

Next game, eh

Well, you're lost.

How much, huhUh..

Five grand. Uh.. I

mean for the land. Come on.

What's your price?

Fifty! Right?Fifty

grand. Bring him the chips.

Right.

My bank.

That's okay with me.

Hold it. Let's have the date.

Well, well that's settled.

Best of luck to you.

Well, all right now. Beth, Beth.

Okay, now let's see what's out there.

Right, right

Oh, look at that. Well, let's have

a look in there. Right.

Okay, that's life. Doesn't

look so good, is it?Okay, that's mine,

all right?

All right, cover

that, ehYeah, you reckon he can't?I don't

know. All right?

Hey. Okay, now

let's see what we got here, ehYeah.

Ohh

What?What's he?Hey, where's your other

tiles?EhWell...

I see. You've been cheating! What?What

Damn you, you lousy crooks!

Now do as we planned, call the police.

Right.

Captain!

Captain, there's trouble. Come on. What

the hell's happened now?Ohh It's a

murder. Pai Dong came into our place and

murdered Chu who?What?

Oh, Captain, I'm glad you came.

What's all this?

Chuhu repaid his debt, and

then he sold his land to me.

I paid for it. Afterwards,

Pailon arrived here. The two of them had

a big quarrel.

Then they both lost their temples and

started to fight. Pi looms too good.

And Chu Hu never had a chance. In a

matter of minutes, Chu Hu was dead. We

grabbed Pi and called you. Is that the

truth?Who saw this?

All of my men were here. Just ask them.

Cousin Loose. Hmm

Right.

Come on, come on,

come on

Pilo, why'd you do it?

You must be mad, not having him like that?

What?

Me?AyeWe all

saw it.

Goddamn you!

Listen, you can't believe them.

I'll make up my own mind. Take him down

to the office.

Come on. Come on, come on

yeah

I take it you believe me now.

Don't bother. The gold is way on the

ground here. Well,

can't wait. I want to find that gold. Get

my hands on it.

Well, I've already been in touch with

General Feng. He's ordered us to

move in here and wait for him to arrive.

And then as soon as he gets here, he's

going to pay us all that money that he

promised us. Well, we'll all be rich

then. More money than we know what to do

with. Of course.

But as soon as we get it, we'd better

leave here. Because I don't think that

captain likes our testimony. Huh

Now, you know what Koo is?

I don't know. Go find

him. I'm telling him he's got to throw

Chu Hu's family out of that house. Chu?

Open up! Open up! He

can help me.

What do you want?You

knowTo throw you out.

Cody and Poe.

Oh,

Talk. Was it you killed Chu Hu?

Was it?

Well, speak up, or I'll beat you to

death. No, no, don't.

I did. But the bus, he made

me do it!

Well, now you're gonna pay for it.

You mustn't kill him. I'll call the

captain to clear your name. No!

I'll go into town then, to get the

captain, alright? An uncle could come with

me. HmmRight.

Got any rope?Yes.

Mama?Is he a good man or a bad man?

Never mind that. Go back inside.

I don't have much luck, do I?

I guess that I'm mainly at fault.

But still, so is Chen Yin.

Chen Yin?

After I'd gone,he should have married you

then

it wasn't his fault what I mean

I liked him but I never loved him

besides besides what

it's simple I was expecting a child

my son

that's right so it was your child

Couldn't you see that?

Mama, I'm

not his son. I'm not his son.

Todd, who's been gone a long time?

What's keeping you?I don't know. Maybe

something went wrong.

Come

on!

Newton, I'll help him. No need.

He can take care of him. Take them in.

Sure.

I know that it's tough on you, but I

better leave here right now.

I'll head for the South and join the

movement. You know I'll

be waiting for you. Don't worry.

Take care of the boy. I'll soon be back.

Milo, do try and write, and good luck

to you. Thank

you.

Goodbye.
