we've got to be nice to her now I know

she's had a difficult time a bit more

better than that I'm almost dead

much younger

do you want to come Clary

you know I don't like riding

see you later

whatever

it's not your driving it's your eyesight

that's the problem my lamb look quite

yet blind you know no of course not dear

but you're going to have to start

looking for a new chauffeur if you don't

allow Tunbridge to do what you pay and

to do

I'm promising nothing

I think about it thank you my dear

oh Kitty I put it to Aberdeen who this

morning about asking Rupert to join the

firm they agreed with me oh good it's a

family firm time he was part of it I

shall tell Rupert after dinner he'll be

very excited I'm sure yes I'm sure he

will be

so I took some leave and ended up here

rewarding as far as Katha in kartha I

met this native guide Sean he knew that

part of the Jungle like the back of his

hand

to find the best pieces of internal

grounds in other words

that guide started my love affair with

Timber of the level the beauty of tea is

Louise still planning to be enough well

she says she's only 14. so there's

plenty of time anyway how are you I used

to as busy as ever yes I'm typing

father's book at the moment

terribly slow it takes a great deal of

time yeah more vegetables Rick have

another potato Garden's looking

wonderful

Calpine and I are at peace at the moment

which is a quite unusual state of

Defense

[Laughter]

I haven't been lately

we went to see the Apple car

last night

Philly enjoyed it

you didn't

George Bernard Shaw Irish vegetarian tea

Turtle coming not my idea

very good

how would you like to join the firm

join the firm brothers and I have

disgusted we'd like you to join us we

would

yes we would

on Earth use would I be to you man

I know nothing about the timber business

I'm a painter father you and Edward

didn't know anything about it when they

came out of the army they'd had a pretty

tough war and I heard it now coming up

man said to you

anyway I think you'd enjoy it

it's a family firm it's incomplete

without you so we'd like you to join

especially now when I want to take more

of a back seat finish off my book on

Woods of the world so damn good thing to

have you here

mean a great deal to all of us many

great deal to me

at least I assume it went financially

no doubt about that wow I want some time

to think about it

let it sink in no

I don't know if I do that

like it's very generous of her but if I

were to accept

I'd be giving up the idea of being a

painter

all I've ever wanted to be

so thank you

I'm very grateful

but I must say no

I'm very sorry

we all are

hmm

well that office not closed

by that refusal anytime you want to

change your mind just say

thank you

and I would

favor if you didn't mention any of this

to Zoe

as you wish

well that was a bit of a surprise

yes

still you know rupe always likes to

think of himself as an independent

whatever it is Spirit yes he'll change

his mind eventually you think so oh yeah

the minute he married though the die was

cast no house far for her

she loves him very much I'm sure she

does with a lovely girl like that needs

some luxuries imagine even she's losing

hope that there's fame and fortune in

his paintbrush

no wonder he didn't want it toad

[Music]

head bad

didn't sleep too well last night

we went to a concert and I'd had a bit

of a head and of course it made it worse

why on Earth didn't you cancel yes Celia

couldn't disappoint sib she was so Keen

to go

now Billy was saying the other day

apparently there's some new specialist

seems his head

I don't want any more quacks picking

about inside my head

a bit of shrapnel is better than half a

brain oh absolutely El chap sure you're

right

sorry no offense I'll be fine good do

you remember when we cycled down to

London to see the problems we used to

live in Hertfordshire 20 miles each way

this is a good night

minutes tonight and the clock in the

room had stopped her trying to help come

what the hell is she playing now

um well we better start looking further

afield I'll just get a coat

Larry

awful yes it is very last

foreign

[Music]

do you want rage I'd rather sleep in

your room I hope you don't mind I only

didn't untrust because of getting cold

I honestly think that if only Zoe made

the slightest attempt to pull her weight

as a stepmother poor little Clary would

be a much easier child I like Zay yes I

know you do

well it's good that someone does hot and

roof is

he likes her

he's mad about

same thing at all

too subtle for me okay oh darling you

know exactly what I'm talking about

s a

oh

sex appeal

ready

yeah

oh

oh darling really I'm awfully tired I

hope you sleep

I do try darling

you simply doesn't like me

anyway it's Ellen's job to know where

she is

well she's really Neville's birth she's

plenty of time to see to Clary as well

all right

I'll talk to Ellen tomorrow

and Clary of course

I thought I took you to bed

with us talking about skiing

he said he invigo just after Christmas

so I'd love it they even suggested we

wouldn't listen

I know we want this baby very much but

aren't you sick of seeing me like this

I do wish you weren't going to the

office on Monday well it is my turn to

keep an eye on things but I can easily

swap with everyone if you want me to no

no I don't

no I want you to be able to take time

off later

you are the most rare

miraculous creature

sometimes I dream of us both being free

to be with each other

you're all I want in the world

till Monday my darling

and perhaps you can find a way of being

alone together for a little while

all my love my dear heart

Sid

that's painful enough

let's keep the foot up

Rachel you could have trained to meet

not till 11 46 I shall bicycle in oh no

no take the car and bring Sid back for

lunch but we can eat at the white heart

and it's such a terrible waste of your

money and you know I always enjoy seeing

Sid

yes

thank you

[Music]

[Music]

oh

oh no

oh

I'm sorry about the white heart but

we'll have a lovely walk after lunch and

take our team with us we won't have to

come back for it

that sounds a splendid idea

every Silver Line has a cloud

it's Rachel it's Rachel

Madame says would you go to Mrs Hughes

or at once the baby started

darling that's why I'm so worried well I

feel I ought to let you know well of

course you must but Sybil doesn't want

him to know till it's all over I don't

think that's the point I think he would

mind very much if he hadn't been told

yes sensible Sid I'll go do it now

I sought you not back till night time

well Mrs caslitt started the baby and

I've come back to get his clothes

Bingo open this door

is my bedroom open the door

[Music]

defense

the pride of the artist is at stake

[Laughter]

he'd never have been happy in The Firm

[Music]

foreign

[Music]

get out

get out

foreign

[Music]

civil's having her baby

so the dutchie thought the children

should be kept out of the house no no

yes yes

here

not big enough

it would be much better if people just

laid eggs people are too heavy to sit on

like study scrambled baby all over the

place

people should be like worms do they get

cut in half

blue pets

what did Philly mean about you and the

firm

did they ask you to join

oh yes

yeah

I didn't say

I will

I was going to of course but

it didn't seem important because I said

no

I see

foreign

awesome

dinner tonight

Mrs Hughes

how's mommy mommy is fine

so is your new brother

have you decided on a name

we're going to question and William can

we call him Wills

Wills

Polly

let's go for a little walk

I want to talk to you

and

Pompey was just lying there

on the bed

he'd obviously just quietly died in his

sleep

he wouldn't have felt anything Paul just

gone to sleep and not woken up

which is of course worse for you than

him

which is

of course the best way around

oh

how awful for you

to go in and just find him

like that

want a hanky

I brought him down here

I thought he might want to give him a

proper funeral tomorrow

yes

and I quite want to do that

but you have liked children

oh yes

I suppose

can't just have them can you not without

love with a man and I I can't help it I

find that idea disgusting

you can have love without a man

well we do don't we

no

we don't

oh said I

I'd rather be with you than anyone else

in the world

go to sleep my darling

foreign

[Music]

thank you

[Music]

[Music]

thank you

blast sorry I thought you were first

I'll drop you off

all right

Autumn's really here

certainly

I'm Edward Castle

[Music]

[Music]

thank you

oh dear dear

you do seem to have been giving them a

lot of trouble

eat it

to me

Uncle Edward has suggested in the past

that instead of school

you might prefer to go to his house

every day and be taught by Miss Millman

Louise and Polly's governors

Clarissa we start each day by reading

Shakespeare aloud for an hour and a half

we take it in turns to choose what play

to eat next

at the moment we're reading our fellow

which was Louise's choice

would you care to play Argo or Emilia

perhaps

would you prefer just to listen

I'll listen

then I will play Argo and humilia

five scene two

Desdemona in her bed

enter Othello with the light

is this the cause

it is the cause my soul

let me not name it to you chase Stars it

is the cause

not shed her blood nor scar that whiter

skin of hers than snow

and smooth as Monumental Alabaster

she must die

I shall betray more men

so she liked it but she liked it more

than School

and we can afford it

darling Edward's been very generous

I know we're not well off but things

aren't that bad aren't they of course

not

in fact I've been thinking

if you still want to go we could even

take that skiing trip

to Sam Moritz

yeah

but what about that studio you were

hiring

I can do that some other time

[Music]

let's go to Center but I do love you

let me use teak

Monsoon forests

bird

still unloading it

I must have a word with Harry Paxton Mr

be stalled

do you know naughty

no

I was just taking a backseat

it's far more than we need and it's

tying up all our Capital to playing it I

have no idea

unless he thinks it's going to be a wall

Watchman fight us again I can't think

that why can't he

that fellow Hitler going on about the

might and power of the third Ray

all the Jews leaving Germany I don't

know that against him we could do a few

less of them in our business must Rush

business lunch

oh dear

okay

won't be able to see you till

after Christmas

no chance

the boys are coming back from school

tomorrow and

Angus will be home on Saturday

I think I'll be able to see you till you

get back from skiing

hmm

I can pack you up and take it with me

your personal baggage

[Music]

Jesus

[Music]

[Music]

[Music]

foreign

[Music]

[Music]

[Laughter]

come on darling

perfect

this is absolute heaven

aren't you glad I made you come

yes

Edward suggested this morning that we

might all go to the south of France next

summer he and 30 went for their

honeymoon and I've never been don't you

think

you sound as if we shark go

I don't think we can afford two holidays

abroad

you want to be a painter and I should

have thought the south of France would

be a wonderful place for you to paint

if I went on a painting holding all the

paint all the time

I trust you to be so Earnest about it

that's exactly what I'm not

see

if I was Earnest I'd do it anyway

and be deflected by anyone but it's all

right

I'm not earnest

I'm hardly Earnest at all

darling

sounds so sad

I love you so very much

I don't mind us being poor honestly

I don't mind anything so long as I'm

with you

I can get a part-time job if you like if

it would help

I think you're a marvelous painter I do

really

you do love me don't you

I worship you

you don't worship me when I'm old and

fat

[Music]

[Music]

I don't love you just for your

appearance

[Music]

foreign

[Music]

Hey Zoe hello

daddy I've written a play this Minimates

got it when she's finished you must read

yes I like to play it's very funny

I think you have real talent as a writer

clearly

when you have a talent you have to

persevere with it I will miss moment

well of course the idea isn't original

children and grown-ups changing places

happens in a play called vice versa I've

seen it originality Louise does not

depend upon an idea so much as it

depends upon treatment

claudi's treatment was very original

that is take me to see the corn is green

my birthday treat

I'm told emlin Williams is wonderful in

it

and then we're going to the cafe Royal

for dinner

have you been to the cafe Royal Clarion

I don't care for restaurants I don't

think Daddy and I adore the cafe Royal

[Laughter]

thank you it is my very beautiful

daughter

happy birthday

that's lovely

Alexa

[Laughter]

[Laughter]

[Music]

[Laughter]

I must be off

hello hi Lydia goodbye daddy bye darling

have a good day

on Earth is the matter with you Louise

nothing well if you're going to be so

ungrateful and sulky after a treat

people will not want to give you them

anymore
