This year, the adventure-loving husband and wife travelled through Europe to Africa.

We’ve just got our visas for Guinea-Bissau.

They’re eight months into their journey

and over three and a half thousand miles away from home.

That’s the border behind us there to Senegal.

Is this motorhome trip of a lifetime everything David and Charlotte had hoped for?

The trip’s been challenging in many ways.

Hard work.

It’s hard work.

We’ve never actually done any caravanning or motorhoming before.

The mosquitos are really beginning to bother us.

Things are never exactly what you think they’re going to be.

31-year-old Natasha Baker lives on her family’s farm in Uxbridge on the outskirts of London.

SINCE 2012

I’m a five-time Paralympic Gold Medallist.

I got into competing when I was around 10 years old.

And a gold-winning Paralympian needs a gold-standard motorhome to travel ‘round in.

Natasha and her family travel to competitions all over the UK and Europe in their luxury vehicle,

but it’s not just mum and dad hitching a ride.

So, my motorhome is slightly unique in the fact that

it’s also a horse box.

We live in the front and then we transport the horses on the back.

Isn’t that a bit smelly?

It just means that we can stay on site, look after the horse and travel in luxury.

A specialised motorhome like this doesn’t come cheap though. It cost a staggering £420,000.

You could bag yourself a couple of Ferraris for that price.

We have two pop-ups and they were £20,000 each.

Just the chassis itself was around £87,000.

The paintwork, that alone is £12,000. It all adds up.

So, this is the front of the motorhome.

This is a sofa but also pulls out into a bed.

And then in the evenings we just have people ‘round,

have a sneaky gin and tonic and it’s just a really really fun nice space to be.

This is my bedroom and it’s got the most comfortable mattress. Honestly, I would have it at home if I could.

This is the kitchen. Probably the most important part for me because I am so food obsessed.

So this is the most important part of the motorhome

because this is where we transport the horses.

But the design wasn’t just focused on the horses;

it had to cater for Natasha as well.

Because of my disability we wanted something that worked for me. So, we have a compartment outside for my mobility scooter.

I have a pole that helps me get up the steps and everything is just designed

so that it’s easy for me to get around.

Natasha was only 14 months old when she contracted transverse myelitis,

a rare neurological condition that affects the spinal cord.

They thought that I would be permanently in a wheelchair.

Having a disability, I’ve never felt, has really got in my way.

It’s just made me really determined.

That’s why I decided that at 10 years old I was gonna win a Paralympic Gold Medal one day.

And Natasha’s dream came true in 2012 when she competed in her first Paralympic games in London.

To come home with two Paralympic Gold Medals,

in front of a home crowd, it was the most incredible time of my life.

Natasha and her horse Lottie are about to travel in their deluxe motorhome

to a very important competition.

Our final selection for the Tokyo Paralympic Games.

I’m just looking forward to finding out whether

I’m gonna be on the plane to Tokyo or not.

We have to bring the Delilah Mobile to an MOT and if you asked me two days ago,

I would have say, “Oh, it’s gonna fail, definitely.” Yeah, you never know.

And you never know.

Gold-obsessed Delilah Jay and her partner Laurence are taking their beloved motorhome,

AKA The Delilah Mobile, for its annual MOT.

It’s anxious moments, it’s got our baby over there, fingers crossed the news will be good.

The couple have owned and lived full-time in the motorhome for the last five years.

Delilah’s hoping to get back on the road as there’s a trip to Margate

on the cards this weekend for a special occasion.

It’s your birthday, darling.

That's right.

If it fails, we really can’t go.

The couple bought the motorhome for £49,000

but have spent a whopping £20,000 on maintenance and if the Delilah Mobile fails its MOT today,

then that maintenance bill could go shooting up.

You peckish?

I had some nuts.

Ah, good.

Cheeky.

Come on, it’s not surgery, hey.

Unfortunately, it’s not good news from the garage.

It failed. I think that’s basically what it is.

It’s just a nightmare. I’m really worried about that.

A few days later, Delilah and Laurence are taking the motorhome to their trusted mechanic Simon

for repairs before it goes in for a second test.

Hello Simon! I’ve got some news—no, actually not.

Did it pass? A fail? Oh.

Uh, there we go.

“Repair immediately, major defects. Windscreen wiper, prop shaft securing bolt loose…”

Yes, I can do that. Fine.

We’ll do the work and then I’ll book you back in for Wednesday for a new MOT.

And while Delilah walks the dogs, Laurence has been left in charge.

The MOT failed because some nuts were loose on a prop shaft.

No, it’s very obvious that it’s a loose nut, so that’s why they failed itl.

Delilah loves the campervan, she’s transformed it and everything inside it shouts Delilah

and we’ll be very happy when it’s on the road again.

Fingers crossed that the repairs will see the Delilah Mobile through its second MOT,

or it’s going to be a miserable birthday for Laurence.

That’s it, done. Just those.

We’re catching up with David and Charlotte Stephenson who eight months ago

embarked on the journey of a lifetime.

We’re driving around the world in our beautiful, beautiful truck.

We’ve lived in it for almost a year now. It’s the best decision we made in life.

The pair’s latest stop is the Gambia on the western coast of Africa.

We love the Gambia and it’s great here.

Yeah.

We didn’t foresee, erm, the beauty that we would be able to enjoy.

It’s always great, innit, to wake up and see the ocean. Just glorious, isn’t it?

Doesn’t get much better than that.

Living in a motorhome full-time, it’s been challenging.

Erm, it’s not something that we’ve ever done before.

The space we have is not very big but it’s very comfortable for us.

We’ve adapted very well I think.

A much more laid-back way of life, definitely.

They’ve driven their Overlander thousands of miles over rough terrains,

so how has it held up on the road?

The roads here are treacherous.

The maintenance is constant.

One thing nobody could have explained to me is how dirty everything gets.

I guess when we live in a small space, it’s heavy wear on things.

At the back is our hydraulic tail lift.

Unfortunately, it’s been damaged.

We had a lorry ran into it.

It’s been straightened for now but it’s being replaced, so that’s life. [LAUGHS]

On all the doors and windows we’ve had mosquito nets fitted and, in this climate, we need them.

Someone pass me the insect repellent quick.

But despite some learning curves on the journey,

the Overlander for the pair has become home.

We love all the features we have, the creature comforts.

We are super happy that we invested in our fridge freezer.

We’ve been able to do some big shops in the bigger cities and filled up the freezer.

And then my famous Moroccan sink, that is definitely exactly as I wanted it.

Buying a motorhome that could travel ‘round the world was no small investment for the couple.

This custom-built vehicle set them back a whopping £350,000.

It’s a huge amount of moneyHas it been worth the money? Absolutely.

We’ve just loved every minute.

So, what’s next for the intrepid couple?

The plan is to continue around the world, probably around 10 years’ travelling,

driving, stopping where we wanna stop and after 10 years, who knows.

Yeah.

I would definitely recommend driving around the world,

it’s the best decision we ever made, just take the plunge and do it.

This is definitely living the dream, definitely.

Journalist and TV presenter Dom Littlewood has arrived at a campsite

to put his potential new motorhome through its paces.

Look, nice little knife and fork set.

The way we holiday has changed over the last 18 months.

With travelling abroad becoming more complicated,

more and more of us are enjoying staycations in the UK.

The first thing you’d ever do is get your roof up, because you just want the extra room so you can stand. So…

Now, this one’s got a very clever design because this is actually a bed

but obviously you only want that down at night-time, so in the meantime, bingo, Bob’s your uncle, Fanny’s your aunt!

The motorhome Dom’s trialling is worth £45,000 but brand-new conversions can go up to a tidy 85,000.

That’s where me and the missus will be staying.

Mm, it could do with like a little ladder or something.

Right, let’s try this thing out for size.

It’s a bit of a tight one. But get a tight one, feel a right one.

That’s what I say. Right.

So, I’m not gonna put the bedding out because it’s warm enough already.

I tell you what, it’s not bad at all.

Got a bit of a breeze coming in on this side.

Yeah, I could definitely see me and the missus enjoying this.

In fact, I could nod off right now. I tell you what, that was easy enough but I wouldn’t wanna do it if I had had a few pints.

Right, let’s check out he lavvy, which I’m assuming is that thing and it’s loose, okay.

Oh, it’s already got something in it.

We were all banned from using the toilet in our motorhome.

Dad didn’t wanna have to empty it in the morning

and there was once when I slipped in for a number two and of course

the trouble is with a portable toilet is the evidence is still there.

You know, but there’s four, possibly five including me mum, who could be the guilty party

and I remember me dad going a bit mad, who’s left this floater, you know, and everyone one of us denied it

and I never, ever got the chance to admit to me dad that little floater was mine.

Bed and bathroom sorted, it’s time for Dom to enjoy the relaxation that comes

with travelling in your own motorhome.

Like most people, I would really, really love to have a motorhome right now.

This is brilliant and it’s excellent if you’re gonna be travelling around 'cause it’s nice and compact size.

And don’t forget, you’ll pay by the size of vehicle when you go on ferries and things like that.

So, has today’s test drive convinced Dom to follow in his dad’s motorhome-owning footsteps?

You know what, I could really see myself diving in and buying one and—

and just starting to enjoy life a little bit more at a slower pace.

Equestrian Natasha Baker and her mum Lorraine

are driving their luxurious motorhome to Gloucestershire.

So, she’s an 18-tonne automatic.

She’s got lane assist, cruise control,

Bluetooth, two air seats, which I love. She’s a super, super comfortable ride.

All very flash, but what sort of horsepower are we talking? Natasha is on her way to take part in

one final competition to decide whether or not she will be part of Team Great Britain

at the Paralympic games in Tokyo.

So, this is it. How are you feeling?

Excited I think. It’s crazy, isn’t it?

Like, all of the training and all of the competitions lead up to just five minutes,

but that five minutes can completely change your life.

Yeah, totally.

My parents are singlehandedly the most supportive parents in the world.

At no point have they ever said, “No, you can’t do that.”

They found a way for me to be able to follow my dreams and support me every single step of the way.

I am forever grateful for everything that they’ve done for me.

It’s nice getting away, like, just the two of us as well, isn’t it?

Just having, like, mummy-daughter time and having a good old gossip about things.

Yeah.

We are incredibly proud of Natasha. If she gets to Tokyo, that would be amazing.

It’s incredible how far Natasha’s come.

I think London was a huge turning point.

So, yes, it would be incredible if she does get to Tokyo.

Natasha and her family got their luxurious motorhome just over a year and a half ago.

We are just so, so lucky that we have got this beautiful motorhome.

It just makes such a big, big difference to our whole experience.

Obviously, we all hope to get picked but it’s—it’s really, really tough

and there’s a lot of horse and rider combinations that are going for just four places.

I want to do my mum and my dad proud.

I want to do my country proud and I want to do my horse proud.

If I don’t get chosen then I would be totally devastated.

With her Paralympic hopes within touching distance,

there’s a lot at stake in this competition for Natasha.

I’ve done everything I can, so…

There’s finally been some good news for Delilah Jay and her partner Laurence.

Thanks to the work of the mechanic, their motorhome’s second MOT test went much smoother.

I’m so happy we are back on the road. The MOT is done…

The MOT was successful.

The Delilah Mobile has passed!

The news has come just in time for the couple to drive to Margate on the Kentish coast

and celebrate Laurence’s birthday on the beach. But with all the drama this week,

Delilah hasn’t had time to buy Laurence a birthday gift yet.

So, she’s popping into her favourite store.

I just hope she doesn’t get distracted…
