We talked about increasing the purchase of ephedrine before.

I've already paid the deposit.

Are we still going ahead with it?

What are you panicking about?

Even if they investigate, they won't trace back to us.

I'll let you know when it's time to stop.

Come in.

Director,

there are a few tasks for next quarter

that need your input.

Mr. Wang and the workshop supervisor

are already waiting in the conference room.

In a minute.

[Yunhui Pharma Workshop Loss Report]

Ephedrine.

Drug production?

Drug trafficking?

[Producer Zhang Yimou]

[The First Shot]

[Episode 21]

[Unsafe bridge, no passing]

I had Xiaohai take Mao out to play today,

so it's just the two of us.

Do you have something to tell me?

Do you remember

when we last

had dinner together alone?

With the kid around all the time,

I can't really recall.

Right.

I can't remember either.

Do you feel like

Mao is a burden?

Jianmin,

if you want a child of your own...

Yingzi, that's not what I mean.

Mao is my child too.

What I want to say is

that our home is always so lively,

and it makes me feel like time flies.

It makes me happy.

I've been through a lot in my life,

and I always felt like life was pretty dull.

I never expected to meet you later in life.

I don't have any great ambitions.

I just want to protect you and Mao,

and make sure you both live safely.

Guess what I got you.

What?

It's your zodiac year,

so I got you a nice new tie.

Look,

do you like it?

It's great.

I particularly picked a red one.

Try it on.

Come on.

Oh, I...

I suddenly remember

I promised Mao that I'd buy her some ice cream.

They're probably on their way back now,

so I need to head downstairs.

There's no rush.

Wait till she gets back.

Come on, sit down.

Sit down.

Be careful.

Alright.

The fish is best eaten hot,

or it'll taste too fishy.

Don't wait for me.

Your tie isn't even on properly.

I'll go buy it.

Look, it's fine.

I'll wait for you.

Did you forget your keys?

Madam.

Officer Zheng?

Why...

Why are you here?

We're looking for Wang.

He went downstairs to get ice cream for the kid.

Come on in.

He just went downstairs?

Yes.

-Then go and check. -Okay.

Well, why did you suddenly come?

It's nothing.

Are you having dinner?

Did you know that Wang's subordinate

Han Li had an incident?

What happened?

She died.

Wait,

what does this have to do with Jianmin?

She was Wang's direct subordinate.

I need to talk to him to understand the situation.

Alright, have a seat then.

He'll be back soon.

No, I'll just stand for a bit.

Hello?

Wang Jianmin ran off.

The convenience store owner said they hadn't seen him,

and his car was gone too.

Did he know he would be exposed

so he ran away?

Where are we going to find him now?

It seems that they haven't started eating yet

and when the door opened,

Jiang Yingzi said he just went downstairs.

He shouldn't have gone far.

Wang Jianmin killed Han Li because she was going to report him.

What she had were copies.

So the originals...

The originals are at the factory.

He was trying to destroy the evidence.

-The pharmaceutical factory. -The pharmaceutical factory.

Let's go.

[Yunhui Pharmaceutical Factory]

Bei, it's Wang Jianmin's office.

Xiaoguang,

hurry, call the fire department.

Got it.

Is he trying to destroy the evidence or kill himself?

I'm going up to check.

The fire is too fierce. Wait for the firemen.

I'm afraid he'll die.

Hello.

Office building of Yunhui Pharma.

Third floor.

The fire is fierce.

Please be quick.

Bei, here's the walkie-talkie.

Be careful with the smoke.

Okay.

You check his car.

If anything comes up, radio me.

Got it.

Be careful!

Wang Jianmin!

Wang Jianmin!

Leave!

I killed her. I'm guilty.

Get out!

Don't save me!

I killed her. I'm guilty.

Don't save me!

I...

I killed her. Don't save me!

Xiaoguang.

Looks like bloodstains.

We still need Guozhu to examine it.

Zheng Bei,

the fire is too fierce. Get out now!

Zheng Bei, do you hear me?

Zheng Bei!

Bei!

Zheng Bei!

Zheng Bei.

Bei!

Have a seat.

Help him up!

Quick, help him wipe.

Bei.

Are you alright?

The ambulance is on the way.

Bei,

are you hurt?

If Nan knows I didn't protect you,

she'll definitely scold me.

Stop pulling me.

Who's protecting who here?

Check how he's doing.

Okay.

Are you alright?

I got choked by the smoke.

He was burning the evidence in there.

We were still late. Couldn't get it.

It's okay.

At least we saved him.

We'll take our time to interrogate him.

You rest up first.

Madam,

Wang set his own office on fire.

Zheng Bei saved him.

He was carried onto the ambulance.

How badly is he hurt?

We don't know yet.

Madam,

Han Li just died,

and Wang started a fire.

Is the pharmaceutical factory being watched by the cops?

All the raw material records

are in the factory.

Jianmin

must have known a long time ago

what kind of business I was running.

I don't have any great ambitions.

I just want to protect you and Mao.

Eat while it's hot.

Or it'll taste too fishy.

Don't wait for me.

- Your tie isn't even on properly. - I'll go buy it.

Look, it's fine.

Go ahead and eat.

I'll wait for you.

Jianmin sacrificed himself

for me.

Even though you cleaned the trunk,

we still found bloodstains

in the corners.

The blood sample has been sent for testing.

Whether it's Han Li's or not,

we'll soon know.

Dragging this out

isn't doing you any good.

He's not a stranger. Don't be rude.

Wang,

we go way back.

What's your trouble?

Whatever it is,

just let me know.

I have no excuse.

I confess.

I killed her.

Why are you doing this?

I haven't even finished the pickles your wife gave me.

You had such a happy family.

How could you ruin it?

Besides, Wang,

I know what kind of person you are.

Why would you kill her?

Han Li knew I had a wife

but kept bothering me.

She didn't respect Yingzi either.

But Han Li has been pestering you for a while.

Why couldn't you take it all of a sudden?

If you do nothing,

your family stays intact.

Now that you've killed her,

your family is truly ruined.

Do you think we'll believe

such a ridiculous reason?

It was an accident.

We were arguing, I got mad

and hit her.

I didn't expect it to go this far.

Officer Zheng,

I won't waste your time.

The murder weapon was a military shovel.

I threw it into the woods

on the east bank of the river.

I burned

her ID card and other stuff.

I set the fire because I knew I couldn't hide it.

I'd just die.

Wang,

a lot of things were missing

from the fire scene.

Let's be honest,

that pharmaceutical factory doesn't belong to you,

does it?

You're just an accountant.

Why would you take the fall for them?

Even if you don't care about yourself,

you should think about your wife

and Mao.

It's sweltering outside.

Wang. Take a look.

Your wife has been worried sick

about you.

She's been waiting all night.

If you cooperate with us,

you might still have a chance

to see Mao grow up.

And your wife will have something to look forward to.

[On the night of the incident]

What's the matter?

Take a look at this.

What...

What is all this?

Where did you get it?

I found it in the Director's office.

Why... why did you copy

these records?

I just wanted you to see

what kind of person Jiang Yingzi really is.

Behind your back,

she's selling ephedrine for drugs production with the Director.

This is a capital offense.

Well, I...

There might be a misunderstanding

in these records.

Well...this is what I think.

I'll take it back and review it.

What more is there to review?

I've reviewed it many times.

They are making drugs.

The meth.

This is illegal.

What do you think

I should do?

Financial transactions require our signatures.

If something goes wrong,

we'll all be held responsible,

especially you.

You're such an honest person.

Why would you take the blame for her?

We must report this to the police.

I know you're shocked,

but we're running out of time.

Jiang Yingzi

is a drug dealer.

But she

is also my wife.

Did you

know this already?

Officer Zheng, you misunderstood.

I didn't destroy anything.

I just didn't want to live anymore.

Have a bun.

You need to eat to live.

If you don't like buns, drink some soy milk.

Here.

Bei.

I don't feel like eating.

I feel upset.

I've tried everything.

But he insisted that it was a crime of passion.

When asked about the factory,

he just shut his eyes and said nothing.

He is so unafraid of death.

How can he be an ordinary person?

We used to think he was honest,

but now it seems like

his image of a family man and good husband

is just an act.

In the end,

we still don't even know what was written

in the destroyed records.

We've checked the factory thoroughly,

and all production records are gone.

The fire he set

left us with

no useful clues.

But there are other ways.

The pharmaceutical factory

is still under the Drug Administration.

If the factory's records are gone,

the Drug Administration should have them, right?

Right.

Even if Yunhui has power,

it can't control the Drug Administration.

Guys,

the autopsy report is out.

How is it?

Everything was soaked and deformed.

What clues could there be?

There is.

The medical examiner found

a piece of undigested plastic in Han Li's throat.

What's that?

It looks like a trademark of something.

I'll investigate it as soon as possible.

Let me see.

In that critical situation,

Han Li wouldn't just swallow

a random piece of plastic.

She must be trying to hint at something.

[Future Pharmacy]

Wang is recovering well.

But we have rules.

You can't visit him.

I understand.

Knowing he's alright now

makes me feel better.

I remember when I went to your home for dinner,

Wang seemed very nice.

But I don't know

what he is like privately.

Was he

ever very irritable

or treating you badly?

Did he ever get physical with you?

No, not at all.

How he is in front of you

is exactly how he is in private.

I still can't believe he would harm anyone.

I think there's definitely a misunderstanding here.

I hope it's a misunderstanding too.

But Wang is being particularly uncooperative.

Think back.

Did he have any unusual behavior

or contact with any strange people,

especially recently?

He comes home right after work every day.

He doesn't have any friends.

Everything is normal.

Before he started the fire,

he was at home having dinner with you, right?

Yes.

Did he say anything during dinner?

No, he didn't say anything.

Hello?

Hello, Bei, what's the situation?

I couldn't find out anything.

I'm not sure if Wang Jianmin is hiding something

or if Jiang Yingzi is concealing something.

How was she?

How did she feel?

She did not cry or make a fuss.

She was clear-headed.

She seemed to handle things well.

It's quite different from her image

as a housewife.

It's just she was a bit too calm,

which was strange.

How did it go?

Did you find anything from the reports from the Drug Administration?

Yeah, a lot.

[Yanfeng Cold Relief Capsules] The data report shows

that over the past six months,

the loss rate for Yanfeng Cold Relief Capsules

during production at Yunhui

has suddenly increased,

being twice as high as that of other medicines.

One ingredient in this medicine is ephedrine,

which is a raw material for making meth.

If that's the case,

Yunhui must be involved in drugs.

Not necessarily,

but it's highly likely.

Well, we've got the clues.

What's with the expressions of you two?

Ran and I

calculated Yunhui's figures using the purchase amount

combined with the loss rate.

Over the past six months,

nearly 300 kilograms of ephedrine

were marked as lost.

What does that mean?

If used to make drugs,

how many could it make?

Around 100 kilograms.

What?

One hundred kilograms?

How many people could that ruin?

With so much raw material,

who would they sell it to?

Does Yunhui Pharma have any business dealings

with the Future Pharmacy?

[Future Pharmacy]

[Motive for the murder?] Han Li must have swallowed this

[Reason for the arson?] to hint at issues

with the Future Pharmacy.

According to the bank statements,

we found

that Jiang Yingzi's Future Pharmacy

has a long-term partnership with Yunhui.

We didn't know before

what evidence Wang Jianmin destroyed,

but now it seems likely

to be related to Jiang Yingzi.

What kind of person is Wang Jianmin?

A loving family man and husband.

When such a man

found out

someone was taking evidence

of his wife's crimes to the police,

what would he do?

He might have been forced to kill

and then destroy the evidence.

This motive makes sense now.

What kind of evidence

could make an intellectual commit murder?

Yunhui Pharma.

Jiang Yingzi.

Wang Jianmin.

What could involve them in together?

So, it's clear

who Yunhui sold

those raw materials to.

Jiang Yingzi and the factory are collaborating to produce drugs,

right?

Currently, all evidence logically

forms a closed loop,

but we still lack direct evidence

to prove that Jiang Yingzi is involved in drug production.

Indeed.

Let's keep investigating.

We're sure to find clues.

They've managed to produce

so many drugs right under our noses.

Starting today,

use the excuse of investigating the murder case

to have Yunhui Pharma shut down for business review.

Keep all information strictly confidential.

Let them think we've only uncovered a case of love murder.

I don't believe

Jiang Yingzi, this cunning woman,

won't come out.
