National High School

National High School Baseball Tournament

National High School Baseball Tournament West Tokyo Qualifier

Final

It's fair to say this year's final was unlike anything before.

Two teams fought for one spot to represent West Tokyo.

I can't finish!

I want to go home.

Mine-san! Can you help me?

No, that's not my job.

Fine!

Let's see, each team's play style...

Last year's champions, Inashiro Vocational School,

have played the game around their ace, Narumiya-kun.

To beat Inashiro, you have to get through him.

Seido, on the other hand,

has relied on their explosive lineup,

centered around their captain and cleanup, Yuki-kun,

and their four-man pitcher relay.

The two first-year pitchers, Furuya-kun and Sawamura-kun,

made a huge impact on the outcome of the game.

Wow!

Thank you, Mine-san.

Seido's two first-year pitchers, Furuya-kun and Sawamura-kun...

Don't use it word for word.

Who would've thought...

...that the game would end like that?

The Summer Heat Haze

The West Tokyo Qualifier final is about to get underway.

Inashiro is here to take their second consecutive summer title.

Seido is here to get revenge for last year

and go to nationals for the first time in six years!

They're both top-tier teams nationally!

Which one will take this game?

Batting for Seido in the top of the first

is their first batter and shortstop, Kuramochi-kun.

Play!

It's very clear you're going for a bunt.

Ball!

Good.

Don't give him any easy strikes.

Ball four!

Right on!

Don't walk him, stupid!

Second batter and second baseman, Ryosuke Kominato-kun.

Kominato's preparing for a bunt.

I'm sure they'll do a sacrifice bunt here,

Damn it!

but they might try to hit while keeping Mei distracted with the runner.

Let's focus on the batter, Mei.

I hate you guys.

So much.

Steal!

Oh! He's going for the steal!

Not happening!

Safe!

And he's safe!

What a run it was!

The battery saw it coming, yet he still made it!

First base!

I know!

With a runner on third, Inashiro could already lose a run here!

Seido has some powerful batters lined up next.

You should know, Mei.

He's not gonna wait to swing.

Let's get aggressive.

Give it to me!

Give it to me!

Come on!

Give me one to the inside!

Yes!

Just as predicted!

A slider?

Second! Back home!

The outfieders were defending forward.

Come on!

No way!

Fall!

It's on the ground!

Kuramochi steps home after seeing the hit.

Seido scores the first run!

That play was huge.

Yeah.

Kuramochi-kun's steal made this possible.

Yeah!

Not to mention their next batter is...

Fourth batter and first baseman, Yuki-kun.

Calm down, Mei.

He won't swing at any balls.

Should be coming soon.

Don't hold back, you idiot.

Mei's lost his cool after giving up the run,

so now's the best time to hit his best pitch.

And only you can do that.

Yes! It's the change-up!

He's waiting.

He knew it was coming.

Strike!

Batter out!

Not only does it throw off your timing,

it also breaks like a screwball?

This... is his change-up?

Seido Inashiro

Narumiya-kun hadn't given up any runs this tournament

until Seido took the first of the game.

And then, it was Inashiro's turn to bat.

Crap.

He's still a first-year?

He's really a monster.

He's got absolutely no control.

Getting an easy pitch isn't very likely.

Oh, never mind.

Right on the money.

Oh. So that's...

...the splitter.

Strike!

Batter out!

Strike out!

You'll take me by force?

They were all fastballs?

Two consecutive strikeouts.

He's on a roll.

Too early to say that.

He sometimes fails on us randomly.

Three consecutive strikeouts!

Is this kid for real?

He's a monster!

Meiji Jingu Stadium National High School Baseball Championship Tokyo Qualifiers

Narumiya-kun allowed the first run,

but he continued to pitch well afterward.

Furya-kun also pitched well,

and the game was at a standstill.

Seido Inashiro

Batting fourth, first baseman, Yuki-kun.

Strike!

Batter out!

What's going on with the leader?

Is he not feeling well?

No, I don't think that's it.

That arrogant, little...

He's only going all out against him.

Got it!

Out!

And that's the third out!

Seido's offense ends with three batters yet again!

Inashiro's ace, Narumiya, is slowly showing his strength!

Seido Inashiro

Batting fourth, catcher, Harada-kun.

He's holding his bat short again.

Carlos is on second base.

It's two outs, and first base is open.

Let's get aggressive here.

Don't be afraid to get aggressive.

Furuya.

A splitter?

Home in!

The score's tied!

He sent the ball to center field while falling down!

Inashiro's first hit is their cleanup's RBI single!

The ball goes high into right field!

Yes!

That one felt good!

The runner on first just ran through third!

And home in! That's the second run!

Inashiro managed to turn the game around this inning!

What's his pitch count?

Sixty-eight after four innings.

Go get Tanba.

I'm putting him in.

Seido High School is switching players.

Tanba! Tanba!

Replacing Furuya-kun as pitcher is Tanba-kun.

Pitcher, Tanba-kun.

In left field, Kadota is stepping out,

and Furuya is replacing him.

Furuya.

The game's just starting.

Good luck.

Strike!

And it's gone!

Home run!

Last year's champions

have sent a clear message to Seido's ace!

Ball four!

Hit by pitch!

Runners on first and second with no outs!

Tanba-kun took the mound after Furuya-kun,

but after he gave up the home run, everything went downhill.

A good fastball brings life to the breaking balls.

Tanba-san.

Be bold.

A fastball...

...to the inside?

You're a much better pitcher than you give yourself credit for.

Have some faith in your abilities.

Have faith!

Have some faith in your abilities.

Out!

Seido Inashiro

Crush their efforts to turn this game around.

I'll just crush everyone who gets in my way.

A change-up?

Out!

Seido Inashiro

Ryo-san.

I can't

make you stop, Ryo-san.

You're irreplaceable to this team.

Let's...

Let's definitely go...

...to nationals.

Out!

And we go into the seventh!

You saved us.

Me. And the team.

Nice cover.

Thanks!

Harada.

Yes, sir.

This is an important inning.

Don't give them a fighting chance.

Both teams were equal in terms of both defense and offense.

But something unexpected happened to Seido.

Seido Inashiro

Tanba!

Tanba-san!

Excuse me! Time out!

It doesn't look like he pulled a muscle.

It's probably just a cramp.

How are you?

I'm fine.

I can do this.

Stay calm, Tanba.

I can't leave...

I can't leave the mound like this

and cause trouble for the team!

Strike!

Nice pitch!

Nice pitch!

Tanba-san!

I'm...

I'm the ace...

...on this team!

Strike!

Batter out!

Let's go!

Man, he's tough.

Quite honestly, I didn't think he was this good of a pitcher.

Batting fourth, catcher, Harada-kun.

But he's at his limit.

Put an end to him, Masa-san.

I'll stop him here.

No matter what!

Foul!

Damn.

It didn't curve as much.

Must be because I pulled it too much.

Tanba-san!

Ball!

Ball!

Wide again!

The count is 3-1.

Ball four!

Looks like they've decided to walk the cleanup

to face Narumiya, the fifth batter!

So you're not worried about me?

Time out, please.

Seido High School is switching players.

Replacing the pitcher, Tanba-kun...

...is Sawamura-kun.

Sawamura-kun's pitching was quite astonishing.

And then, the shocking end.

Hey, did you finish writing about the second half?

Glasses...

Ow!

Huh?

Where are the cute boys in glasses?

Shut up and get back to work!

You can't leave until you finish.

What?

Mine-san! Mine-san!

Hey, don't yell into my ear!

I need help!

My writing skills can't do justice

to the incredible end to the game.

How long have you been in this business?

Um... When did I start working here?

How should I know?
