In the final inning, Inashiro's ace, Narumiya, is once again on the mound.

He gave Seido the lead, but it's only by one run.

If they want to come back when they bat, he can't give up any runs.

Narumiya's still pitching?

No surprise here. He's the ace.

I wonder if he's recovered from the last inning.

Masuko got a good one off him, too.

First pitch is a forkball! Miyuki misses!

A breaking ball from the first pitch?

They're very careful.

Of course.

They can't give up any runs.

They need to be careful of balls, though,

so I'm sure they want to corner the batter quickly.

I can't hit his breaking balls, anyway.

So I might as well just gamble on his fastball!

Straight down right field!

He hit.

Without a runner!

Seido isn't slowing down!

Their powerful batters are giving Kanto's best pitcher a hard time!

With no outs, there's a runner in scoring position!

Yeah!

Nice batting!

Damn.

Sorry, Mei.

Looks like we still have the momentum from last inning.

Next up to bat is Furuya, who got two hits today

and created the opportunity for Seido to come back.

Furuya! Let's go!

Mei! Be aggressive!

Lonely Sun

Hey, first-years!

Where's Narumiya?

Is he still asleep?

Y-Yes, sir.

We went to his room, but he's...

Today's the start of our new team.

Is he gonna be all right?

Tsubasa-kun!

Can't make third!

Okay! Okay!

One at a time!

One out!

One out! One out!

Top of the ninth, and Seido's still aggressive.

They couldn't risk a failed bunt.

That's probably why they put their money on Furuya-kun's hitting.

He got out, but the runner managed to advance to third.

When they have momentum, they can make the best of bad situations.

Nice job, Furuya!

Be confident!

Your death will not be in vain!

I'll smack a big one!

Sawamura!

Come here!

Boss! You called?

Should I go for a home run?

But this is where things get difficult.

Kawakami-kun is very good at closing games,

but Inashiro hasn't gotten a clean hit off Sawamura-kun yet, either.

Will they use a pinch hitter?

Or...

Inashiro is calling a time-out and sending a messenger.

They can't give up any runs.

Iguchi is warming up in their bullpen.

Infield all in?

Yeah.

Watch out for their squeeze bunt.

We still have a chance to bat.

Let's defend this inning and switch to offense on a high note!

Yeah.

It's not enough.

It's not hot enough.

The mound at nationals

was much hotter.

Much...

Much...

Maybe it's because I always imagined myself at the nationals...

Seido Inashiro

And I know sounds strange after giving up four runs, but...

I can't picture us losing.

I can't picture us losing this game.

Oops! Did I worry you?

Does it sound like I've gone crazy?

I've already...

...faced my weaknesses.

I caused so much trouble to the team.

I still can't go to sleep sometimes.

What's Narumiya doing?

It's been three days already.

It wasn't his fault we lost.

We've told him that countless times.

Coach, should I drag him out to the field?

I may not look it, but female students come to me for counseling.

Just leave him be.

But he's the ace of the new team.

We don't need anyone...

...who isn't ready to fight.

It's been a week now.

I hope he doesn't plan on actually quitting.

In the end, his wild pitch gave up the critical run,

but it was just one pitch.

He just messed up on one pitch.

But they say prodigies have frail hearts.

You guys are pretty cold, too.

You joined the team with him.

Why don't you help him get back on his feet?

Man, I feel heavy.

Damn.

Not like I can sleep, anyway.

Don't worry about it, Mei.

It's not your fault we lost.

You're still a first-year.

You still have two more years.

It's not my fault...

...because I'm a first-year?

What's that supposed to mean?

Like you never had any trust in me, anyway?

Damn it.

It sucks that we lost.

But I'm even more mad about what they actually thought of me.

Finally, he's out of his cave.

I knew he wouldn't just fade out,

but it took him ten days.

The more you expect out of yourself,

the greater the damage when you fall.

How many people can be so critical of themselves for just one mistake?

Who's there?

Maybe he's a much bigger man than we gave him credit for.

It's one out with a runner on third at the top of the ninth.

Seido has a runner in a scoring position.

Good luck.

Good luck.

They're using Sawamura-kun?

So they must plan on using him in the bottom, too.

You need to relax.

Yes, sir.

Just do what you can do.

In this at-bat,

I'm only asking for one thing from you.

Let's go!

They're not using a pinch hitter.

The infield's ready to throw home.

Bring it on.

We won't let anything through.

Man! He's unbelievable.

I can't picture us losing this game.

I don't care if he was just putting up a front

or being overconfident.

He can't picture us losing.

That's what our ace told us.

Our ace.

I'm almost certain they'll do a squeeze bunt.

He's a lefty who can see the third base runner.

Give me a slider to the outside.

Let's see how he reacts.

Listen.

They're observing every little movement you make.

For the first pitch,

pretend like you're really gonna go for it.

It's mine!

Foul!

He tapped it.

Are you serious?

The plan isn't to hit.

That was close.

I tried to miss, and I tapped the ball.

What were you thinking, tapping the ball like that?

That's not your job! That's not your job!

No.

I'm sure they're also very confused now.

If we look at it optimistically,

this is an opportunity.

Now's the time.

What am I lacking?

A ton of things.

He's letting me play despite that.

I can't possibly fail him!

Let's go!

Shut up.

You're not getting any more runs.

He's running!

Damn.

They were going for a squeeze bunt.

He's running!

Damn.

They were going for a squeeze bunt.

What?

Inashiro lost the fall tournament at the third round?

Tokyo Fall Tournament Inashiro, the Summer Champions, Vanish at Round Three!!

What happened to Narumiya?

Did he get hit?

I don't have the option...

...to quit.

He didn't pitch.

His pitching form got inconsistent after losing at nationals.

No...

It's just...

I'm not satisfied to quit here.

I wonder if his feelings are getting ahead of him.

His chest is too far forward, and he's lost control.

If he can't figure it out soon, he won't be ready for summer.

I want to learn everything...

...that a pitcher needs.

If I can make amends for what I did at nationals...

...I'll do anything.

I'll be as selfish as I can be.

Damn.

Masa-san, can we go ten more?

Not like you'd let me say no.

His form is looking very strong now.

But...

His biggest change...

...is his care.

His care for each pitch is incomparable to before.

Twenty more!

It went up!

I've always...

...been stuck in that moment.

I'm still stuck in last summer.

You guys don't know what nationals is like.

Unless I...

Unless I go to nationals again,

my summer season will never start.

Mei!

Out!

Seido doesn't get the run!

Narumiya gets the out with a quick play!

Let's go, Narumiya!

Let's go, Shirasu!

Come on!

Narumiya is staying aggressive against Shirasu!

The count is 1-2!

He's quickly cornered him!

Strike out!

His changeup comes through!

Yeah! Nice pitch!

Narumiya!

Narumiya allowed some runners,

but closed the inning without conceding any runs!

Nice pitch!

Nicely done!

Narumiya!

Mei-kun!

The crowd is going wild about the ace who pitched all nine innings!

Narumiya-kun!

Mei!

I've never seen Mei...

...with that expression.

We're not gonna be able to win so easily.

Sakai!

Get in left field.

Switch with Furuya.

Yes, sir!

Kawakami!

Be ready to go anytime!

Yes, sir!

Sawamura!

Kawakami is ready to go behind you.

Go all out!

Listen up!

They're coming after a run with everything they've got.

Be careful about getting each out!

Don't think you've won until the very end!

Yes, sir!

Inashiro is much stronger compared to last year.

That's my sincere opinion.

And you guys are giving them a run for their money.

Go play your hearts out

with pride and confidence.

This is the West Tokyo District Tournament final.

With Seido leading by one run,

we go into the bottom of the ninth inning!

The crowd is giving a round of applause

to the Seido team as they walk out to defend!

Don't lose focus!

Yes, sir!

Let's stay focused!

Yeah!

One at a time, Sawamura!

You've got this!

Final inning!

If they defend this inning...

...it's over.

The team that wins...

...will go to nationals.

Let's do this!

Pitching for Seido in this final inning...

...is their first-year pitcher, Eijun Sawamura!

We go into the bottom with Seido in the lead.

It's Inashiro's last chance to score.

We don't need two runs.

Just get one run.

If we go into extra innings, we won't lose!

In order to advance, we have to beat them!

We won't back down.

We're going to nationals.

I won't run away.

More control.

I need more control!

Next time on Ace of the Diamond: Determined.

Determined

Let's win the national title!
