[Episode 23]

- How did you know my martial arts technique? - This is just a silly trick.

Not a big deal.

[Yueluo]

Father, did you truly capture Xiao Wuxia today?

That's none of your business.

You better do your rounds.

That day, I noticed two girls and one young man who didn't look familiar.

They behaved suspiciously too. They might be his accomplices.

Give me the order, and I'll capture them immediately.

What did I teach you usually?

I taught you to keep your wits and act cautiously.

Seems like you didn't learn anything at all.

When will you stop making me worried?

I just want to help you become the next city lord.

Who said I wanted to be the city lord?

I wanted to be!

I wish to be the city lord if you don't feel like it.

I wish to protect Yueluo.

I don't want people to bully us again.

Father, why don't you work harder and give it your all to be the city lord?

So you can pass the throne to me in the future.

Stay put. Do not go anywhere.

[Yueluo]

No!

Xiao Haitian!

Everything was your fault!

From today onward, we're no longer comrades!

I'm cutting my ties with you!

From now on, we're sworn enemies!

Elder Ping, it must've been tough.

Cut to the chase. Stop beating around the bush.

Elder Ping, you're a heroine who excels at battle.

To me, you're the only one who can become the city lord.

I merely received a few more votes than you.

So what?

Elder Ping, I'm willing to join hands with you to retrieve the jade hairpin.

In the future, we must help each other out, and protect our tribe

no matter who becomes the city lord.

Who exactly are you?

Since you have captured me, you guys can do whatever you want to me.

Buddy, you're still young. Why are you seeking death?

Do not waste your breath on him.

Speak! Why do you possess the jade hairpin?

Naturally, it's because the jade hairpin has a conscience.

It can differentiate between right and wrong.

It despises you all.

Ping Yan, Li Mu, Ji Yao, and Hong Ye.

Are you doing this because you guys truly hate the Xiao Family?

Or do you have an ulterior motive?

Shut your mouth!

Xiao Haitian and I are sworn enemies!

Since four of you wanted to steal the jade hairpin from me,

why didn't you dare to ask me for it?

You want it? Over my dead body.

You're stubborn, aren't you?

You're too arrogant for your own good. You're more vile than your father!

Elder Ping.

This is your last chance to speak.

[Liang]

My Lord. We received a letter from Yueluo.

It states that everything is under control. They said you didn't need to worry.

Tell him to secure his position as the city lord.

If not, he'll be the first sacrifice for our banner.

Yes, My Lord.

Have you received any news from Wei Zhao?

I combed through the city for a few days.

I haven't discovered his tracks.

Could it be that he has gone to Yueluo?

[Yueluo]

Tomorrow's the city lord selection ceremony.

My Lord, I'm afraid we'll be in trouble if he finds out about your arrangement in Yueluo.

What about this?

Take a team of elite troops with you.

Enter the city with a disguise. Investigate the case secretly.

Monitor the ceremony while you're there.

- Understood. - You may go now.

Your Lordship, according to my scout's report, [Yueluo]

The city lord selection ceremony in Yueluo was sabotaged by a masked assailant.

He was also captured by the elders of the city.

Could the masked assailant be Wei Zhao?

Wei Zhao? Can he be captured that easily?

Tomorrow's the city lord selection ceremony of Yueluo City.

I wonder if he'll show up.

I plan to visit the city together with Tong Min.

Sanlang, huh?

Have you found any trace of Ci's whereabouts?

I haven't.

You, stay here and deal with Lu Yu.

- Tong Min and I will go there. - But Your Lordship...

Lu Yu will seek out Sanlang.

I'm afraid the ceremony tomorrow will be perilous.

If Ci is at Yueluo...

I must bring her back.

Don't worry.

Did you intend to die at Guxing Peak had Le and I not sought you out today?

Don't be angry.

I'm fine, aren't I?

I heard that Elder Ping captured the troublemaker

who caused a mess during the ceremony.

That was satisfying.

- I'm serious. - Is that actually true?

Of course.

I heard that he was a descendant of the Xiao Family.

Is that so?

That man appeared out of nowhere. And he was captured suddenly.

Isn't that suspicious?

I think they're just blinded by greed.

This is bad. Those are some of the elders' men.

- Let's head back first. - It's too dangerous to go together.

You and Le should return to the house. Wait for my news.

- Be careful. - Go now. Hurry.

Let's go.

Even if there's something off about it, what can we do about it?

Tomorrow's the city lord selection ceremony.

I saw three suspicious individuals at the square back then.

I can't rest at ease unless I've captured them.

That's her!

After her!

- Stop right there! - Stop right there!

- Split up! - Yes, sir!

After her!

Who are you? Stop hiding!

Are you one of his accomplices?

Who said so?

Tell me where the girl and the kid are.

I promise I won't hurt you.

- Stop right there! - Your Lordship,

that's the dancer of Fanglin Manor.

- Tail her. - Yes, Your Lordship.

- Are you okay? - What about you? Are you okay?

Ci, why did you come to Yueluo without bidding farewell?

Miss Jiang, His Lordship is worried about you. He's here to pick you up personally.

- Miss Jiang, let's go. - I no longer serve your residence.

Who do you serve, then? Xiao Wuxia?

I don't know who Xiao Wuxia is.

Come with me.

I won't.

Yu Lian!

Yu Lian!

Fine! I'll leave with you!

- Jiang Ci is the only one I want. - Jiang Ci!

Go. Just go!

Let's go.

Why are you wounded?

I'm fine.

You should go and get changed first.

I'll dress your wound.

These are just minor injuries.

Ci, no matter how angry you are, you mustn't take it out on your body.

Tong Min.

Yes, Your Lordship.

Go and buy some snacks.

Yes, Your Lordship.

Who was that Lord? How did Jiang Ci get herself involved with them?

We should find Mr. Ping first.

You still want to escape? You can run all you like.

In the end, there's still no escape.

Watch out!

That man is pretty stubborn.

He's not talking even after all the torture.

Kill him, then.

Let's have a fair competition tonight.

Elder Ji, why should we retrace our steps when we've already made progress?

Elder Li, seems like you're confident that you'll get your hands on the jade hairpin, huh?

That's not it. The jade hairpin was lost for many years.

We have to give our tribe an account, don't you agree?

But he refused to speak no matter what.

We're in a tough spot here.

If so, let's address the root cause of the issue.

He said he wanted to uphold justice, for Xiao Haitian, right?

Let's take him to the Xiao's Residence, then.

We're fulfilling his wish here.

You said you served Xiao Haitian, right?

I'm sure you know that this was Xiao Haitian's armor.

This belongs to a criminal.

Naturally, we have to be wary.

It's an ominous symbol after all.

Buddy, no matter who you are, we'll release you once you give us the jade hairpin.

What are you laughing at?

Elders, seems like you are quite impatient.

It's not like I cannot give you the jade hairpin.

But who should I give it to?

Why don't you duke it out?

I'll give the winner the jade hairpin.

You think this is a joke, don't you?

You do have a point.

What about this?

Tomorrow, if any one of you can kowtow to the brave soul

of City Lord Xiao three times in front of the people, and clear the Xiao Family's name,

I'll consider giving that individual the jade hairpin.

I'll kill you right now!

- Elder Ping! - Elder Ping, please be appeased!

Elder Ping! Elder Ping!

If you kill me now, you will never find the jade hairpin.

That's right. We can't afford to kill him.

I've given you all my conditions.

You can make your own decisions.

Let me examine your wound.

Your Lordship, thank you for your concern.

But I've already dressed my wound.

Your Lordship.

You must be starving.

These snacks do look pretty exquisite.

I wonder how they taste.

Ci, try them.

Your Lordship, you should eat first.

They still can't be compared to the snacks you make.

Ci, when will you make Victory Cakes for me again?

And, the roasted crabs you mentioned before, I've been thinking about them until now.

These snacks resemble the ones I make.

Your Lordship, the snacks I made were ordinary.

They don't deserve your yearning.

However, Ci, after I've tried the snacks you made,

I can never try any other snacks.

Aren't you going to try it?

I just don't want to be trapped by the snacks I've made.

Ci, you aren't willing to be trapped by your snacks.

However, you're willing to let him trap you at Yueluo.

Your Lordship, I don't know who you're referring to.

I won't let anyone trap me either.

Even now, Ci, do you still wish to lie to me?

Do you still remember the honest conversation we once had

beside the lotus pond at my residence?

Don't you think a person like me is tragic and pitiful?

Everyone has their own ways of living.

It's just like the stars in the sky.

Each has its own shining trajectories.

Even so, they don't stop other stars from shining.

Your Lordship, you just need to believe that I never told anyone about your secret.

However, I don't wish to be reminded of the events that occurred in Qingkang.

You don't wish to be reminded of the past events,

yet you're willing to follow him, and let him manipulate you.

I was already manipulated when I first arrived at Qingkang.

Since I chose to forget about it,

I'd forget about the upsetting events that had occurred as well.

- Le. - Yu Lian.

What are you doing in Yueluo?

I saved you, you know?

And now, I'm talking to you nicely. You better know what's good for you.

I know what you're going to tell me.

You were hiding in the crowd that day, so that you could launch a two-pronged attack

and sabotage the ceremony, am I right?

There were plenty of people there. How were we hiding?

If so, why did you run away when you saw me?

- Do you look like a good person? - Do I not look like a good person?

About your injury, do you need a physician?

You can stop pretending to be kind.

Fine.

You don't appreciate my intention at all.

- Keep an eye on them. - Yes, sir.

Where's Father?

I don't know where he went after heading to the Xiao's Residence.

Why did he go to the Xiao's Residence?

He said he wanted to break the assassin down.

Break the assassin down?

He doesn't need to resort to that.

Young Master, you should stay out of this.

Elder Hong will be mad at you if he finds out this.

He is fearful and paranoid. I'm not the same.

I can keep the person I captured in check.

You.

Come with me.

Where are you taking Le?

Yu Lian. Rest well. Don't worry about me.

Stop pretending to be an adult. Come!

Kid, do you know him?

I don't.

How dare you tell a kid like him to protect you?

Aren't you ashamed of yourself?

How dare you blackmail me with a kid like him?

Aren't you ashamed of yourself?

- I... I just... - Is this your way of doing things?

You oppress and bully the weak, huh?

What makes you different from Lu Yu and the Zhenyuan Army, then?

Hong Jie!

What are you doing?

I captured his accomplice.

I wanted to retrieve the jade hairpin as soon as possible.

How dare you bully a child who's younger than you?

Did you learn nothing from me?

Get out!

I'm sorry.

What did you tell Hong Jie?

Your son has captured my eldest sister. Liang people captured my second sister.

You are as evil as the Liang people.

They captured your second sister?

Where did they take her?

Tomorrow's the city lord selection ceremony for Yueluo.

They've captured someone.

It was also a masked assailant.

Ci, do you think that's Silver Masked Man?

There are plenty of masked people in the world.

This would be too much of a coincidence.

I do wish to check it out.

If they are the same person, I won't waste extra effort on capturing him.

So, Your Lordship, is that why you came to Yueluo?

I came here because of you.

But you're not willing to stay. I have no choice but to stay.

I'm not lying.

I just hope that you can return with me.

You get to decide whether I stay or leave.

Fine.

Your Lordship, I'll return with you.

Let's depart, then.

But Your Lordship, it's already late.

I haven't packed my belongings yet.

Okay.

I'll wait here.

Ci, we shall depart once you're done packing.

Your Lordship, you're right here.

Where else do you think I can escape to?

I'll try to lure him away first.

After that, I'll use the chance to escape.

I'll leave a signal behind for Mr. Ping and the rest.

It'll notify them of His Lordship's presence.

The jade hairpin?

Why is it with me?

If the elders don't get the jade hairpin tomorrow, doesn't that mean they will...

[Yueluo]

Come. Hold this.

Okay.

- Smear more mud on top of it. Make it stable. - Got it.

Father, why are you still here?

Look at the time. Why are you repairing the walls?

What nonsense are you talking about?

The wall is damaged. Of course I must repair it.

I heard that the three elders would seek that person tonight.

You should step it up as well!

What makes you think that you can teach your father a lesson?

I'll deal with the situation.

Do not mess around.

Father.

Father.

The result doesn't matter as long as you've put in the effort.

Just go. Proceed with whatever you're doing.

What are you saying?

The wall hasn't been repaired yet.

Why are you still standing there? Come and help me out.

Coming.

Your Lordship.

- Can we depart now? - Your Lordship, sorry for the wait.

Why don't we have a meal before leaving?

Sure.

Ci, it's been so long since I've had your cooking.

Miss Jiang is finally willing to return with you, Your Lordship.

I also wish that she's willing to return with me of her own accord.

Ci, do you want me to finish this congee, so that you can leave me again

once I fall unconscious?

Why do you disappoint me time and time again?

Let go of me! Let go of me!

Open the door!

You see, today's an important occasion for Yueluo.

You are members of the tribe as well.

Why don't we watch the ceremony together?

Let's go.

- Let's go. - Lord Pei?

General Zhang.

Lord Pei, what are you doing at Yueluo as well?

I came here to monitor the city lord selection ceremony.

Lord Pei, are you here for the same purpose?

I mustn't let him foil Wei Zhao's plan.

General Zhang, His Lordship and I were intending to invite you to the ceremony.

Lord Pei, although you've made a long trip, at least you had a beauty beside you.

You do know how to enjoy yourself.

We have no time to waste. Let's go.

Everyone, today's the day when Yueluo will select its city lord.

- Excellent! - Excellent!

City Lord Hong!

- Excellent! - Excellent!

Besides that, there's one more piece of joyous news.

That is, we've found the long-lost jade hairpin!

Someone! Bring him here!

That's him!

Kneel!

Why is Commander Wei over there?

What ulterior motive does he have?

I'm afraid only Commander Wei can explain that.

Your Lordship, I need your help to invite Commander Wei to our camp

for a brief conversation later.

This is the assassin who sabotaged our previous ceremony.

Now, he's willing to hand the jade hairpin to us

after the elders persuade him - to change... - I have something to say.

Elder Ji. You may speak after this.

Xiao Haitian!

He was framed!

What? He was framed?

How could he possibly be framed?

- That's right. - Yeah.

- Yeah. - Everyone.

He was the reason my entire family was wiped out.

Back then, my family was wiped out due to war.

I hated him. I hated Xiao Haitian.

I hated him so much that I wanted to skin him alive.

Therefore, I pushed all the blame on Xiao Haitian.

I was wrong.

I've maligned Xiao Haitian!

Ji Yao!

How dare you bow down to him for the sake of the jade hairpin?

- You're shameless! - You're shameless!

Today,

in front of the members of Yueluo,

I'll kowtow to City Lord Xiao three times to comfort his spirit in Heaven.

Elder Ji, wait!

You better don't go back on your word.

Xiao Haitian harmed his own kin.

How could you kowtow to him for the sake of the jade hairpin?

Who said I was doing it for the jade hairpin?

Hand over the jade hairpin, and I'll spare you.

If so, Elder Ji, why don't you kowtow to City Lord Xiao, then?

In your dreams.

Elder Ji, you're not willing to kneel for the jade hairpin, huh?

If so, Elder Ji, are you willing to kneel for the sake of Ji Lang?

Who?

Who did you say?

Your son.

Elder Ji, how could you not remember him?

How would you know about Lang?

Back then, Ji Lang was sent to Liang State.

Not long after that, we received news that he died in the palace.

Ji Lang was seven feet tall with a handsome face.

There's even a mole under his right eyelid.

Elder Ji, what if I tell you that Ji Lang is still alive?

Will you kneel for the sake of this news?

He told me that Lang was still alive.

He would tell me where Lang was if I knelt today.

What exactly are you up to?

Elders! Elders! Please calm down. Please calm down.

Do not fall for his trick! Do not fall for his trick!

Elder Li, that's not what you told me last night.

I...

What deal did you make with him last night?

I... Elder Ping, don't take his word for it.

I sought him yesterday in order to persuade him!

Elder Li, you promised me that you would uphold justice for City Lord Xiao.

You promised me wealth and fame as well.

You said I would be a major figure no matter if I was in Yueluo, or Liang State.

- Stop maligning me! - Liang State?

Elder Li. What exactly is going on?

- I... - Explain yourself!

- Talk! - I didn't say anything about Liang State!

I only wanted to...

Elder Li, you saw that I didn't trust you.

In order to convince me, you wrote this promise on the spot.

Everyone, take a good look at them.

These are the city lords that you have chosen.

One of them is a spy who's been colluding with the Liang people!

Surround the vicinity with our men.

Yes, sir!

So, Li Mu, you betrayed your tribe as well.

What do you take our tribe for?

What do you take Yueluo for?

Everyone, don't listen to him! Don't listen to him!

He's here to drive a wedge between us! He's here to seek revenge!

Actually, he's the son of Xiao Haitian!

He's Xiao Wuxia!

He's the son of Xiao Haitian?

Xiao Wuxia?

How can you prove that I'm Xiao Wuxia?

That day, everyone saw you when you held the jade hairpin.

The jade hairpin vanished together with the Xiao siblings after Xiao Haitian's death.

He said he wanted to uphold justice for Xiao Haitian!

Who else can he be besides Xiao Wuxia?

Elder Li, you actually fell for it when it was a fake hairpin, huh?

Such nonsense!

Someone! Kill him now!

Zhang Zhicheng?

What is he doing in Yueluo?

How is Commander Wei related to Xiao Wuxia?

He's not Xiao Wuxia!

- Ci! - Your Lordship!

Elder Li! How can you turn your back on him just like that?

What are you saying? Where did you come from? Scram!

You promised that you'd clear the Xiao Family's name, and uphold justice for my husband!

- I... - Is this how you're upholding justice for him?

You hired someone to impersonate him. And now, you want to kill him?

Such nonsense! I don't even know you!

Who's your husband?

My husband is Xiao Wuxia.

Xiao Wuxia is her husband?
