The founding King of Balhae, King Go Dae Joyoung died in June of year 719

22 Years after the declaration of the new state leaving a huge mark in history.

The territory of Balhae was centered around eastern Manchuria which now belongs to autonomous prefecture of Yanbian

It stretched east to Primorsky Krai west to central Manchuria and south to the Korean peninsula.

It was eight times the size of then Shilla and four times larger than its predecessor state Goguryeo.

Balhae`s capital Tonggyong was a thriving city where 37 palaces sites where found withing 3.5 km by 4.5km area.

Five regional capitals were established throughout the state to rule the vast territory and Balhae`s trading extended as far as Persia.

In the west, Balhae was referred to as the strong country by the sea in the east boasting it`s unparalleled strength in northeast Asia.
