[Nirvana of Love]

[Episode 21]

I'll be leaving now.

Let me wipe your sweat for you.

You did great today.

- Brother! - Sister!

Oh, my boy.

You must learn more from your father.

He's home. Why is he still upset?

[Yueluo City]

[Qingkang]

[Lord of Jianding's Residence]

Your Lordship. Working for too long will harm your health.

You should have some ginseng soup.

[Memorial on Six Matters Concerning The Military System]

Your Lordship, do you intend to implement military reforms?

Initially, I wanted to make a comeback with the arms case.

In the end, I've trapped myself instead.

How can I regain His Majesty's trust if I don't take bold and drastic measures?

However, military reforms aren't beneficial to the Changfeng Guards.

Ever since the late emperor founded the state, the private armies of powerful aristocrats

had always been a thorn in the imperial court's flesh.

His Majesty fears the Zhenyuan Army and Changfeng Guards the most.

Now, the Changfeng Guards are under the lead of Yue Jinglong for the time being.

Now, the only thorn in His Majesty's flesh is the Zhenyuan Army.

I only stand a chance to return to the imperial court

if I help His Majesty to get rid of this thorn.

This way, we'll be making Lu Yu our enemy.

He already treated me as an enemy after I handed his accounts to the imperial court.

His Majesty wanted to take back his military power long ago. It's just that he couldn't find an excuse.

These military reforms are designed to fulfill His Majesty's desires.

This is also my only opportunity.

Your Lordship, you wouldn't need to take such unnecessary risks if it weren't for Wei Zhao's intervention.

To be fair, if I were in his shoes, I would do the same thing.

Sanlang is a great rival.

What a shame.

Your Lordship, don't you intend to expose his identity?

Now, we don't have any evidence or witnesses. If we confront him head-on, both parties will perish together.

Right now, our priority is to retrieve the Pei Family's ledgers from him.

I was incompetent.

I couldn't locate Wei Zhao's whereabouts ever since the Changfeng Guards lost sight of him.

He might be in Liangzhou.

Your Lordship, what makes you think so?

Even if His Majesty isn't taking action against Lu Yu, that doesn't mean he doesn't trust him.

He'll definitely send Sanlang out to investigate the case.

If so, I'll send my men to Liangzhou right now.

If His Majesty adopts these military reforms, I'll stand a chance to head to Liangzhou.

By then, I'll make contact with him naturally.

There's one more thing. Madam sent Ms. Du here to relay her message.

She had made an appointment with Second Young Lady Dong on your behalf.

Since Mother arranged for the date, she can head there herself.

Yes, Your Lordship.

♫ Time is always too short Expressing one's feelings♫

♫ Gathering one's gentleness ♫

♫ Hoping that it'll last long ♫

♫ Day and night ♫

♫ I wish we can travel on boat under the gentle night My longings are too dense ♫

♫ Lingering in my dream ♫

♫ The starry sky is still the same You're the only one♫

♫ Entering one's dream with the wind The wind continues to blow ♫

♫ I want to ask you When you came♫

♫ Did you wish to stay and bury your feelings Waiting for time to reveal the truth♫

♫ As the seasons pass May you live a life without worries ♫

His Lordship has rejected the date.

If so, should we cancel the appointment with Second Young Lady Dong?

It's fine. She'll marry into our residence eventually.

I'll test her temperament in advance.

His Lordship intends to submit a memorial to the throne.

He wishes to be his blade, but that person might not grant him his wish.

[Hongtai Hall]

Greetings, Minister Dong.

Lord Pei, what are you still doing here?

I'm here to wait for His Majesty's beckoning. I dare not leave the place.

Lord Pei, it's been tough on you.

I'll surely tell His Majesty about your loyalty.

Chancellor Dong, thank you for doing so. I'll surely repay your kindness in the future.

I shall take my leave.

Farewell.

- My Lord. - Tell Second Young Lady to return to the residence.

Yes, My Lord.

[Hongtai Hall]

[Qingkang]

[Yueluo City]

Show yourself.

Let me join you.

No.

- You saved my life. I'll repay your kindness. - No need for that.

I'm familiar with the city. I can help you out.

The trip will be perilous. I can't provide your grandmother with another grandson.

My grandmother said she had seen everything when she had lived that long.

She had come to terms with everything. I should decide my own life.

Let me join you. I won't drag you down.

Mr. Ping. Let's go.

- What's that? - That one?

It's a fishing drum.

Miss, would you like to try some pickles? You may try them.

Pickles for sale.

- We sell pickled cucumbers. - Give me a bag of pickled cucumbers.

- All right. - How much?

- Five coins. - Five coins?

- Here you go. Take care, Miss. - Here. Take care.

Why are these pickled cucumbers so sour?

I don't know.

- Give it a try. - I don't like it.

Suit yourself.

What are they laughing at?

Pickled cucumbers are usually preferred by pregnant women.

If so, I'll have them when I get pregnant in the future.

Such indecency.

These pickled cucumbers are very appetizing.

I'll buy a whole sack of them, for my daughter when she gets pregnant.

I like you. Will you marry me?

No.

- Has he fancied you for a long time? - That was our first meeting.

He proposed to you on your first meeting with him?

It's Yueluo's tradition. We cannot predict what'll happen tomorrow. So we do whatever comes to mind.

Young Master, the base of our stay is up the mountain from here.

If so, I'll leave a mark behind for Master. This way, she can find me if she sees it.

Let's go.

Young Master, that will be your room. Le and I will sleep in that room.

As for you, Yu Lian, you can sleep in that room.

Mr. Ping, what about me?

You?

Over there. You'll sleep in the woodshed.

I'm not sleeping in the woodshed. I want to...

I want to sleep with Yu Lian.

I wish to learn from Young Master.

I wish to learn from Young Lady.

You two are cut from the same cloth, huh? You two are just like siblings.

Who wants to be her brother?

Sure.

- Thank you, Young Master. - Young Master, it's been a long trip.

Please rest early. Don't let them mess around.

Let's go.

You're showing kindness for no reason. What are you up to?

I just think that you're amazing. I want to be your friend.

- Amazing? - That's right.

You managed to escape from all the pursuers when we were in Fanglin Manor. Isn't that amazing?

- You witnessed that? - Yeah.

Teng Rui is just a lecherous old man. Back then, you should've chopped him up.

But I did make him suffer after that.

Did your mother prepare this for you?

How do you cook eggs in Yueluo?

Mother, let me help you out.

Who are you? Why are you calling me Mother?

To be honest, I don't have a mother.

Therefore, when I see kind madams like you, I call you all Mother. Please allow me to call you that.

Good girl.

I think my daughter will be the same age as you if she's still around.

If so, you can order me around like your daughter, then.

Thank you.

Don't mention it.

Girl, the more I look at you, the more you resemble my daughter, Yu Lian.

If so, you can treat me as Yu Lian, then. Mother.

This is Cocoon Egg. Try it.

This is my first time seeing this dish.

Aren't you going to try it?

Your mother prepared this for you. You should eat it.

Your mother praised you too. She said you were beautiful and intelligent.

Mother thought that I had died in Liang State's slave camp long ago.

It would've been true if Young Master didn't come to my rescue.

I still have a mission to accomplish.

I should not give my mother shattered hopes.

Aren't you afraid of death?

I met an elderly couple before this. They acted the same way as you all.

When you're burdened with injustice, you'll realize that there are more important things in the world than one's life.

But isn't it pointless to redress one's injustice by sacrificing oneself?

Better to live a miserable life than to die a good death.

Lass, you always speak without thinking too much, huh?

Young Master would be a lot happier

if he behaved like you.

I heard a song from Yueluo some days ago.

I think it goes like this.

Do you know the name of the song?

Your singing was terrible. It would be strange if I knew what it was.

I've only heard it once. I can definitely pick up the song if you play it again for me.

Why are you trying to know the song?

I think it's nice. I wish to learn it.

Can you tell me about Wei Zhao?

I think he's been acting strange ever since he arrived at Yueluo.

I don't know anything.

Finish your egg.

Jiang Ci. Thank you.

Yu Lian, Mr. Ping, and Shameless Cat, all of them are hard to deal with.

Since you want to learn from me, you have to start with strengthening your constitution.

From today onward, do a headstand for two hours per day. Practice martial arts in the morning for two hours per day.

No skiving allowed. Understood?

- Yes, Young Master. - Continue.

[Hongtai Hall]

Look at the military reforms proposed by Pei Yan. It's obvious that he's ambitious.

Lord Pei has lofty aspirations. So he wants to share your burden with you, Your Majesty.

If he can truly do so, I'll reward him.

Do you have any news of Sanlang?

Your Majesty, Commander Wei had just arrived at Liangzhou.

He's trying to gather info about General Lu in secret.

Lord Pei.

His Majesty is tired after a long day.

You should return.

Thank you, Chief Steward Tao.

If so, I shall return tomorrow.

- Your Lordship. - Your Lordship, did you wait here for the entire day?

His Majesty requires time to make decisions.

It's late. You two should return first.

I'll take a walk by myself.

Your Lordship.

You're finally here.

Unfortunately, I didn't let you try the mutton noodles.

I waited here every day, so that I could make you a bowl of noodles.

I appreciate your intention.

Your Lordship, where is the lady you brought with you last time?

She...

She's on a long trip. She hasn't returned yet.

What a shame. Your Lordship, why don't you have some noodles first?

No.

I'll wait for her return. I'll try it together with her next time.

Okay.

- You can go ahead. - Your Lordship, please take care.

Look, it's drifting away.

It's beautiful.

Your Lordship, please.

I thought today's appointment was canceled.

Your Lordship, I only had the chance to walk around the city after you canceled the appointment.

I heard Lanyue Parlor served delicious dishes. That's why I came to try them.

I'm ashamed.

I shall deliver some famous calligraphy paintings to your residence as apology tomorrow.

Your Lordship, you're too courteous. But calligraphy paintings depend on one's affinity.

- It's better if I buy them myself. - Second Young Lady, you're straightforward indeed.

I'm ashamed.

Your Lordship, you don't need to say much.

I understood your intention when I was at your residence.

I have the same intention as you.

However, we don't get to decide whether or not we should be getting married.

Both of us can't control our own fates.

Your Lordship, you and I were taught to weigh the pros and cons of every situation since young.

If the price of resistance is too high, we'll cast away that troublesome notion.

On the contrary, we'll only take the plunge if it comes with substantial gains.

Second Young Lady, you're perceptive indeed.

I shall finish this cup as an apology.

After I head back, I shall tell Father that you made it to the appointment.

- Your Lordship, remember to cover up my lie. - Thank you.

Your Lordship, you can take this as a favor from me.

If, one day, we do get married,

please don't disrupt my life. We can lead our own lives.

Your Lordship! This is bad.

Mr. Cui, he... It's been four days since he had any water after his return.

[Lord of Jianding's Residence]

Ziming, have a seat.

You've lived here for two years.

I treated you with sincerity.

There are contemporary scholars and distinguished masters under the Pei Family.

However, Ziming, I've never paid as much attention to them as you.

Why did you need to resort to this?

Your Lordship, I'm honored.

I dare not forget your kindness.

As your retainer,

I should prioritize your needs over everything.

Your Lordship, I've let you down by helping Miss Jiang out.

I'm too ashamed to live here now.

I didn't grant you this soup as the Lord of Jianding.

You should drink it if you still think of me as a friend.

Let's go and take a walk.

Today, we shall not talk about Jiang Ci.

Ziming, I know you're unsatisfied with the result of the case in Nanling.

I never thought that there was anything wrong with the struggle for power and fame.

But Your Lordship, it also depends on the reason behind your actions.

Your Lordship, if you're implicating the innocent and initiating wars

for your selfish desires, that would be a huge mistake.

So, Ziming, to you, am I someone ruthless who manipulates political maneuvers?

Your Lordship, I chose you as my lord because I admired your aspirations and wits.

But I'm afraid of one thing. Your Lordship, I'm afraid of the fact that you might stir up

a storm in the world and cause major changes

in order to realize your selfish desires and ambitions.

Ziming, you do know me well.

Your Lordship, the Changfeng Cavalries has 100,000 troops.

They can stir up a storm in the world, but they can also bring peace to the world.

Your Lordship, everything depends on the way you act now.

Ziming, you're right.

If that's the case, I will take back the things that I've lost.

Ziming, I need you.

Keep serving me. I promise you.

I won't let down your trust.

What about Ci?

We agreed not to talk about her today, didn't we?

By the way, Ziming, you always excelled at calligraphy paintings.

Please draw one for me.

[Prime Minister's Residence]

Pei Yan's Memorial on Six Matters Concerning The Military System is truly on point.

In my opinion, we should execute it immediately.

Your Majesty, Lord Pei has arrived.

The criminal, Pei Yan, has arrived. Greetings, Your Majesty.

- You may rise. - Thank you, Your Majesty.

Who were you referring to as a criminal?

How could someone who could come up with such ideas be a criminal?

Troop commanding and mobilization should be separated, huh?

If we can execute this idea, not only will the people benefit from it,

but General Lu also won't need to bear that much burden.

I only wish for Liang State to thrive for generations, and prosper eternally.

I'm afraid General Lu will misunderstand me if I do so.

Your Majesty, you and General Lu are very close to each other.

General Lu has been guarding our borders for many years. He's been separated from his family for many years as well.

Your Majesty, I'm sure you can't bear to see that.

I'm willing to head to Liangzhou, and execute the military reforms

so that Your Majesty can preserve the brotherhood with him and maintain his loyalty to you.

The Lord of Jianding is loyal, filial, benevolent, and righteous.

He shall be reinstated immediately.

Relay the news to Sanlang.

Tell him to keep a close eye on Lu Yu and Pei Yan.

Yes, Your Majesty.

Congratulations on your reinstatement.

I'll surely fulfill Father's last wish.

I'll make sure the Changfeng Guards become the only army in Liang State.

Mother, as for your ledgers, I'll think of a way to retrieve them.

As for other things, I won't consider them for now.

Tell our men to get ready. We will head to Liangzhou.

Your Lordship, I'm afraid you'll be in danger if you meet General Lu yourself.

Since I submitted the memorial myself, I have to head there personally.

If I head to Liangzhou, I'll also stand a chance to retrieve the ledgers from Sanlang.

Commander Wei is witty and devious.

Your Lordship, have you come up with a way to deal with him?

He has been lurking in Qingkang for many years.

I'm sure he has planted many of his men here.

Investigate them in secret.

They'll definitely be of use to us in the future.

Young Master, are you heading out?

- Are you done with your training? - That's right.

You can tell her to teach you The Art of Five Beasts. You can train for two more hours.

- Young Master... - Why did you get me a disciple without asking for my permission?

Wait. How did you know that I knew The Art of Five Beasts?

You're a great practitioner of that art. It's a waste if there's no one to inherit your skills.

- I'll look for Young Master. - Me too.

You two, stop right there. None of you is allowed to leave.

If not, I'll get the cane.

Come back.

Teach him The Art of Five Beasts.

I can sneak out easily.

You!

Is there an event in Yueluo today?

- How did you find out? - Tell me about it if you want to find Young Master.

Today's the city lord selection ceremony.

I'm better at sneaking out than you.

These two fellows... escaped right after I took my eyes off them.

Come here.

The auspicious hour has arrived. The ceremony will begin now.

- Excellent! - Excellent!

The city lord's position has been vacant, for many years.

Today, we shall select a city lord to lead our tribe to be self-reliant.

He shall bless our tribesfolk with peace and security.

For today's city lord selection ceremony, according to the rules,

a winner will be selected from the two individuals with the most votes.

Out of the four elders, the one who can defeat the rest

shall be the new city lord of Yueluo City!

- Excellent! - Excellent!

Everyone knows that Elder Hong and Elder Ping are martial artists. Over the years

A martial arts contest is unfair to Elder Ji. [Ji Yao, Elder, Yueluo]

If Elder Ji didn't manage the land and finances ,

did you think our tribesfolk could live such carefree lives? Am I right?

If Elder Ping didn't work tirelessly to fortify the city

and defend against the Zhenyuan Army, I'm afraid our tribesfolk couldn't even eat in peace.

[Ping Yan, Elder, Yueluo]

Elder Li is in charge of the laws and regulations of the city.

Elder Li rewards and punishes people fairly, keeping the city peaceful. [Li Mu, Elder, Yueluo]

allowing people to leave their doors unlocked at night. Therefore, Elder Li should be the city lord.

You can continue bragging. When it comes to affairs within the city,

Elder Hong knows them better. [Hong Ye, Elder, Yueluo]

Elder Hong has dedicated himself tirelessly to our cause.

I'll only acknowledge Elder Hong as the city lord!

- Elder Hong! - Elder Li!

- Elder Li! - I support Elder Ji!

Time to collect votes!

- Time to collect votes. - Who will you vote for?

Elder Li, one vote!

Elder Ji.

Elder Ping, one vote!

Elder Li, one vote!

Elder Ji, one vote!

Elder Hong, one vote!

Elder Hong, one vote!

Elder Ji, one vote!

Elder Ping, one vote!

Elder Li, one vote!

Xiao?

What's his full name?

Xiao Haitian.

- What? - Who voted for him?

Who voted for him?

[Xiao Haitian]

Who's trying to provoke us? Show yourself!

- Precisely! - Who made the vote?

Xiao Haitian is a sinner of the tribe.

Who's daring enough to mention his name here?

Are you trying to make the Yueluo Tribe your enemy?

- Yeah! - That's right!

Who made the vote?

Elders. Elders.

Please calm down. Please calm down.

Everyone, if there's anything on your mind, you can tell the elders about it.

- That's right. - Just tell the elders about it.

- What a coward. - Yeah!

- You're stirring up trouble by voting for him. - A bunch of disorganized fools!

Who are you?

The jade hairpin?

I'm here to uphold justice for City Lord Xiao.

Doesn't that belong to Xiao Haitian?

How dare you mention Xiao Haitian's name?

He was the reason our tribe has ended up in such a sorry state.

He's a sinner who betrayed his tribe! How could you uphold justice for him?

Precisely! There's no justice for him!

When City Lord Xiao was framed, none of you believed him.

Some of you even colluded with the Zhenyuan Army to slay the Xiao Family.

Your only goal was to obtain the jade hairpin, and become the city lord, right?

You were the ones who selected him to be the city lord.

You praised him when you received his grace.

You abandoned him and detested him when he was framed.

It's obvious that the city lord is someone you can abandon at any time.

In that case, isn't it pointless to select another city lord?

You're full of nonsense!

Calm down! Calm down!

- Let's listen to what he has to say. - Yes, sir.

According to the ancient teachings of Yueluo, only a brave warrior with loyalty and righteousness,

who wins the respect of the entire tribe,

is qualified to inherit the ancestral jade hairpin, and become the city lord.

"A brave warrior with loyalty and righteousness who wins the respect of the entire tribe."

Which part of that statement have you managed to fulfill?

You couldn't even find the jade hairpin.

Even so, you are staging an act, and deceiving yourselves here.

Since that's the case, why don't you remain here?

We can settle our debt today.

He'll be fine. Let's leave for now.
