[Episode 19]

[Changfeng Estate]

Bravo! Hey, look. This is what we call dashing and gallant.

Thank you for praising Commander Wei. You have fine taste.

Get over yourself. Is this how Commander Wei teaches his subordinates?

Like Lord Pei never flatters himself.

- Don't you dare speak against His Lordship. - Don't you dare speak against Commander Wei.

I want to say it. Commander Wei is pompous.

He's not as dashing and gallant as His Lordship.

- Yufei. Send His Lordship off. - Yes.

Please leave.

What was going on?

Pei Yan discovered my identity.

What?

Pei Yan will not let me leave.

Report Nanling's undeclared fine weapons to His Majesty immediately.

Do you want to request a transfer decree to get you out of here?

Not just this, we must find the leverage He Zhenwen holds against Pei Yan.

Check where He Zhenwen is imprisoned, and keep a close eye on anyone related to him.

Yes.

But the Changfeng Guards have surrounded this place. What should we do now?

He can't come in, and I can't go out. It's better to remain as it is.

I'll get it done.

Wait. Why can't you go out?

Just proceed with your thing.

Understood.

Come down.

How do you know I'm up here?

There was a commotion outside. You wouldn't still hide in the cabinet.

One is as overbearing as a crab, while the other is as agile as a cat.

All right.

Ouch.

My legs have gone numb.

Ci didn't come out?

No. Our men have surrounded the place. They would discover Miss Jiang if she tried to slip off.

She must still be in Wei Zhao's room. Keep a close eye on it.

- Yes. - Your Lordship.

What's the matter, Ziming?

Since Ci has left, why not let her go?

She never walked the same path as us.

Ziming, you care so much for Ci that you would even betray me.

The crisscrossing wheel tracks in the suburbs, I can't think of anyone else but you, Ziming.

I've failed your trust, Your Lordship. Please punish me.

That being said, since Ci has chosen to leave, please set her free.

I admire your character and talent, so I won't punish you.

However, I won't let Ci leave either.

Send Mr. Cui back to his room. Without my order, he's not allowed out.

Mr. Cui, this way, please.

Your Lordship. We've lost both witness and evidence now. How are we going to deal with Wei Zhao?

Is it safe outside now?

- For the time being, yes. - In that case, I should get going.

You can't leave.

Why?

I believe Pei Yan has had this place under his control.

Not to mention Yuzhou Island, the moment you step out of the door, you'll be captured right away.

But Master is still waiting for me.

Come. They are clean.

Didn't you say Pei Yan's men were watching closely outside?

I don't have to avoid being seen, though.

I shouldn't have come back here.

There's hot water in the bathtub.

Master, you must wait for me.

Now that his identity has been exposed, he'll have many concerns when he deals with me later.

I can still suppress him.

However, it seems he has found out

that He Zhenwen has something against the Pei Clan in his hand.

We must get the account book back as soon as possible.

Yes.

What's wrong with you?

That's kind of you.

Some meat...

and vegetables.

The other hand.

Thank you, Commander Wei.

Let's eat.

When can we leave?

Maybe in three days.

Three days? That's too long.

I suppose you and your master are close. She won't mind waiting a few more days.

In that case, I have to eat more to have the energy to search for my master.

Later, we'll return to Jiang Village, and never leave again.

Then why did you come back here?

I can't stand still and watch you die.

Why did you give me this?

You would nag me if your clay cat got dirty.

That's right. I like it.

I didn't have to make a fake clay cat.

Fake?

You gave me the idea. Let me show you.

In return, I'll give you this.

So ugly.

Why don't you take it?

Things that come in pairs bring good fortune.

One is full of cracks, while the other one looks unbearable.

Putting them together is quite an eyesore.

Forget it.

Wei Zhao.

Shameless Cat.

Are you asleep?

Yes.

Am I talking to a cat now?

Well, when can we leave?

The more anxious you are, the slower the time.

But I really miss my master. She'll be worried about me if she can't see me soon.

This is the first time that I feel home is so far away.

I can't meet the person I want at any time.

Still, it's always good to have a home to return.

Why don't you share your story with me?

Do you think we won't be able to meet again?

♫ The slanting sun ray refuses to leave The moon is fading off ♫

♫ Frost on the sword, string of the bow Bond people together ♫

♫ The rain heading north and the wild geese returning from the south, Who can meet again? ♫

♫ Looking at the mountains far away and seeing everything red Immersed in the passing years ♫

♫ Back then, the road seemed ordinary Yet now I am left wandering in this life ♫

♫ Faint memories of old times Tell all the sorrows of parting ♫

♫ Back then, the road seemed ordinary Amidst the wind, I suddenly look back ♫

♫ The face that feels so dear to me Where are you now? ♫

Lin, I'll avenge you very soon.

Don't worry.

I'll make everyone pay for your death.

Lin, you won't be alone.

Where's the account book?

Where's Jiang Ci?

You'd rather sacrifice the entire Pei Clan

than give up that lowly maid?

I can trade something else with you. Anything but Jiang Ci.

I don't want anything else.

My son is dead.

I want all of you to suffer my pain.

What do you want?

The last son of the He clan is dead.

I want the entire Pei Clan to pay for it.

Finally, you're being honest.

You never wanted to give me the account book.

Instead, you want the Pei Clan to pay for He Yonglin's death.

I guess you've already delivered all account books of the Foundry Bureau

to Qingkang through routes in the wild.

You assumed that I'd be distracted to keep Jiang Ci safe.

Sadly, you've underestimated me.

Pei Yan,

I'm going to kill you!

Over the years,

you've served my mother wholeheartedly.

For every Qingming Festival from now on,

I'll send someone to offer incense, for both you and your son.

Pei Yan!

Pei Yan! [Changfeng Estate]

[Suburbs of Nanling]

Drat! One of the account books has been taken away. What should we do?

This isn't my mother's account book.

- Whose is this? - Lu Yu's.

The one that has been taken away is ours.

An went to investigate them.

No need for that.

Who else could it be to predict this?

I didn't expect the person whom He Zhenwen has been secretly dealing with to be Rong Yudie.

But Pei Yan took away Lu Yu's account book.

You lost the upper hand when you confront Lu Yu next time.

Judging by the time, His Majesty should've received the missive by now.

Never mind.

Pei Yan will present Lu Yu's account book for me.

I don't understand.

I didn't mention the names of those involved in the Foundry Bureau case in the missive.

Keeping weapons in secret is a serious crime. We must investigate it.

If you were Pei Yan, and you wanted to protect the Pei Clan,

what would you do with the evidence you have on Lu Yu?

To use a diversionary tactic?

Forget it. I was wrong.

In my opinion, Lord Pei was right.

You are keeping a mistress.

Ouch!

Keep a close watch on Pei Yan. There will be movement soon.

Got it.

According to Commander Wei's secret report, the Foundry Bureau has two batches of weapons.

One can slice through iron like butter, and the other is as fragile as bean dregs.

The former is the good batch, and it hasn't been sent to Qingkang.

Yes.

Commander Wei also found that He Zhenwen had secretly forged weapons under orders from someone for years.

They just haven't figured out who that someone is yet.

- And he said... - What else did he say?

He said the investigation was constantly obstructed by the Pei Clan.

The Nanling's issue is complicated, indeed.

Madam, something terrible has happened!

Why the panic?

It's just the residence being surrounded.

Have Pei Yang return to Changfeng Estate quickly and inform Yan.

Yes, Madam.

[Lord of Jianding's Residence]

[Changfeng Estate]

Your Lordship, if you don't return soon, it will be too late.

[Changfeng Estate]

Everything's happening just as you predicted, My Lord. Now that Pei Yan has left,

no matter who's left behind to keep watch, they won't be able to trap you.

To save his mother, Pei Yan will definitely hand over Lu Yu's account book.

Once that happens, you will have every reason to head to Liangzhou.

From there, you can take a detour to Yueluo.

Get ready.

We will send Jiang Ci to Yuzhou Island first, and then head to Liangzhou.

You are so generous to Miss Jiang, going above and beyond for her.

- What's the progress of the investigation for the cloth bags? - We have checked several places.

- Based on the distance, we should have a report by tomorrow night at the latest. - Great.

[Changfeng Estate]

This Shameless Cat...

You must be a stray with no home.

♫ Our longings go on ♫

[Changfeng Estate]

Master, you are so warm.

I miss you so much.

My...

Is it morning already?

Pack your things. I will take you to Yuzhou Island.

Really?

- Yes. - All right.

Tell me. What's going on?

The spy tracking Yan's movements reported back. Yan showed up on Yuzhou Island.

Do you know why she went there?

Our people bumped into Changfeng Guards, and alerted her.

Yan left in a hurry.

There's something else.

Speak.

We have been investigating the distribution of those cloth bags.

Most of them went to the Huainan area, but there's one other place.

That's Liang'an.

After several teams had done the search, we found clues in Jiang Village.

A middle-aged woman and a young girl lived there, calling themselves master and disciple.

About a couple of months ago, they both vanished overnight,

and their house in Jiang Village was burned down.

Two months ago...

That's when you met Miss Jiang, My Lord.

And her home is in Jiang Village, coincidentally.

And she's going to meet her master on Yuzhou Island.

You and your master, in my eyes, are just like this clay cat.

If something happens to me, the people of Jiang Village will be buried with me. Do you believe me?

But now, I'm begging you. Return the clay cat to me.

Don't harm my master.

This can't all be a coincidence.

Could it be...

Miss Jiang is a disciple of the Yan clan?

What are your plans?

- The trip to Yuzhou Island remains unchanged. - But our people said...

We will go with her and take a look, and we'll decide from there.

I will borrow these two little clay cats for a while.

When are we leaving? What about those watchers outside?

But I know you will have a plan.

When we get to Yuzhou Island, I will introduce you to my master.

Pack carefully. Don't let those outside watchers catch on.

All right. I will listen to you.

[Hongtai Hall]

- Stand. - Thank you, Your Majesty.

You are saying all the finely crafted weapons from the Foundry Bureau ended up in Lu Yu's hands?

I wouldn't dare speculate.

I'm simply presenting the facts to Your Majesty.

What else have you discovered?

The Pei Clan of Nanling conspired with Governor He Zhenwen, committing corruption and oppression.

I have compiled a list of the Pei Clan members involved.

He Zhenwen and He Yonglin have already confessed to their crimes.

Pei Yan, you have handled this so well...

that I can't find a single flaw.

I'm embarrassed, Your Majesty. I just want to ease your burdens.

You have already resigned, so you are not technically my subject anymore.

But in my heart, you are still Zijing's son, still my family.

Go visit your mother.

She's been worried about you ever since you left Qingkang.

Thank you, Your Majesty.

- Zizhu. - Yes, Your Majesty.

Am I doing a bad job as Emperor?

Your Majesty is unparalleled in wisdom, unmatched in history.

Then why do the ministers I rely on most refuse to help me?

Your Majesty, you have always cared for your subjects.

Perhaps they just don't understand your good intentions.

I need Minister Lu.

The court needs the Zhenyuan Army.

Some mistakes are first-time offenses.

So, they can be forgiven.

- Put it away. - Yes, Your Majesty.

Minister Lu has defended our borders for years, spending most of his time away from home.

His son is all alone at home, poor boy.

I feel guilty about that.

Tomorrow, arrange for someone to take Lu out for some fun.

Let everyone see how much I care for Minister Lu's son.

Yes, Your Majesty.

[Hongtai Hall]

I have questions, and I wish to ask you, Mother.

I have questions, and I wish to ask you, Mother.

I have questions, and I wish to ask you, Mother!

Your Lordship, Madam is fully focused on her prayers, and won't see anyone.

Please go back, Your Lordship.

I have questions, and I wish to ask you, Mother!

[Yuzhou Harbor]

We're here. [Yuzhou Island, Liang State]

[Dragon King Shrine, Yuzhou Island]

Go to the Dragon King Temple on Yuzhou Island in late autumn.

Use the clay cat as a token, and someone will bring you to meet me.

[Dragon King Shrine]

You don't believe that Miss Jiang is a disciple of the Yan clan?

It's not confirmed yet.

But we have been waiting here for days.

The election for city lord is imminent.

If we don't head back to Yueluo soon, we will miss our chance.

It is a must to go to Yueluo.

Bring Jiang Ci with us.

If she really is a disciple of the Yan clan, she will definitely lead us to the Yans.

You are taking Jiang Ci back to Yueluo?

But she's attached to her master. Will she agree easily?

Yufei, pass the word.

- Have someone pretend to be the contact. - Noted.

Also, Jiang Ci is quite smart.

She will likely use the genuine and fake clay cats to test us.

Make sure they are prepared for that.

Understood.
