ANNOUNCER: From the YouTube Theater

Downloaded from YTS.MX

in Inglewood, California,

welcome toA Grammy Salute to 50 Years of Hip Hop,

featuring performances by...

Official YIFY movies site: YTS.MX

...and so many more.

Now, please welcome a two-time Grammy-winning hip-hop icon,

Rock & Roll Hall of Famer and six-time,

always-winning Grammy host LL Cool J.

Welcome, everybody,

to A Grammy Salute to 50 Years of Hip Hop.

Now, are you all ready to celebrate music

that changed the whole world forever?

-[cheering, applause] -Okay.

That's good, because half a century ago,

the hip-hop revolution was definitely not televised.

All right? We've come a long way.

In 1973, the pioneer DJ Kool Herc

DJ'd a back-to-school party

for his little sister Cindy Campbell

on Sedgwick Avenue in the Bronx,

and he became one of hip-hop's first DJs.

Very few people would have predicted that, 50 years later,

hip-hop would rise to this global moment of power.

[cheering, applause]

So, tonight, here in the YouTube Theater in Inglewood...

[cheering, applause]

...just down the street

from where West Coast hip-hop first exploded,

our music is celebrated with its own,

its very own Grammy special.

And we're doing it big with the help

of multiple generations of hip-hop artists

from all over the world.

[cheering, applause]

It's not possible for us to have

every artist here tonight, all right?

But they are represented and they are appreciated.

So, to everyone who set the stage, we thank you,

we respect you and we salute you.

[cheering, applause]

And on that note,

we're gonna start our celebration off tonight

with "Ladies First."

[cheering, applause]

The queens of hip-hop.

Now, on the turntables,

-DJ Spinderella. -[cheering, applause]

Joining her, two-time Grammy nominee Monie Love

and the queen herself, Grammy winner and Grammy host,

one of the greats, Queen Latifah.

[cheering, applause]

ANNOUNCER: Keep the celebration of50 Years of Hip Hop going

by seeing "Hip-Hop: The Mixtape,"

the new exhibit now open at the Grammy Museum

in Downtown Los Angeles.

Get tickets today at GrammyMuseum.org.

Still to come onA Grammy Salute to 50 Years of Hip Hop,

the reunion of DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince.

This is CBS.

ANNOUNCER: Please welcome CEO of The Recording Academy

-Harvey Mason Jr. -[cheering, applause]

Thank you.

What an amazing night this has been.

But now, let's pause and think about

the gravity of what's happening here.

Tonight we've been able to pay respect

to some of the architects, the icons,

the unsung heroes, the hip-hop superstars,

and yes, the artists, producers, writers and engineers

who maybe never received the recognition or the respect,

or even the trophies that they deserve.

Now, it's no coincidence that we're all here at this time,

with so much stress and so much division and pain in the world.

But this music is the antidote.

This music is the medicine.

This music is the universal language

that even the most divided of us can understand.

But it also has the power to disrupt and change.

It has the power to break through even the loudest noise,

and unify.

And so, let's acknowledge that there is no music

-without hip-hop right now. -[cheering, applause]

The music business isn't what it is without hip-hop.

Tonight, we've celebrated, but more importantly,

we've permanently cemented the legacy,

the impact and the contributions of this music,

of our music, to the culture and to the world, forever.

And now, I'm gonna turn this over to a true music superhero,

the supremely talented Questlove.

-[cheering, applause] -QUESTLOVE: Thank you, Harvey.

All right, y'all.

In a year and a night full of hip-hop moments,

this is a big one.

I grew up idolizing these two

from my hometown of Illadelph.

They were the first artists to ever receive

a Grammy Award for hip-hop, but back then,

they weren't invited to perform or accept their award on camera,

which led to the hip-hop community

sitting things out that year.

But thankfully, a year later,

their hip-hop invitation did show up,

and they became the first hip-hop group

to ever perform at the Grammy Awards.

And tonight, as a fan,

as a friend from way back in Philly,

let's welcome to the Grammy stage

the incomparable, the amazing, the legendary,

D-- get up-- DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince!
