[My Wife is A Thief]

[Episode 22]

Mr. Li, please let me have more information.

[500 tales]

Mr. Liu.

Go home and do some preparations first.

Then come to Zhao's Mansion to see me.

I'll introduce you to my young master.

Okay.

I'll do as you say.

[Duke's Mansion]

How is the thing in Taizhou going?

We've found a new route.

News from Taizhou

said that the goods would be shipped out tomorrow.

Now not only people in the capital

but also in the several provinces neighboring Taizhou

have started to grow Moon Star Herbs.

What is Young Master doing now?

He is working on the delivery of goods.

It's said that he learned it fast.

Within only a few days,

he could master most of the skills needed to do the business.

Young Master also took charge of the work

to build this new transport route.

Really?

Since he was a kid, I've been making him study for imperial examination for selecting officials.

He hates that very much.

He only likes doing business.

That's good.

He's finally making some contributions to the family.

Tell him

I'll let him handle the business

and make all decisions himself.

Understood.

By the way, My Lord.

The Zhao family sent a message

which says that they would like to outsource

the transportation of goods on the new route.

They wanted to know

your thoughts on that.

They decide themselves who their business partners are.

But they must investigate the backgrounds of their partners carefully.

Make sure there'll be no mistakes.

If they find anyone suspicious,

kill them.

Understood.

What are you doing?

Go out.

Don't come here if you have no money.

[Medicine]

Move.

What a loser!

[Noodles]

You're not a local here, are you?

The pharmacy

throws several people out every day.

You'll get used to it.

Were they thrown out

because they couldn't afford the medicine?

[Li's Tongren Pharmacy]

You're half right.

They were thrown out

because they couldn't afford the what they wanted to buy.

[Noodles]

But they didn't want to buy medicine.

They wanted to buy the specialty,

the Moon Star Herb pills.

Moon Star Herb pill?

Do many people here take the pills?

Of course.

At first,

a Moon Star Herb pill only cost two coppers.

The pills were almost free.

But the price went up later.

And people here have got addicted to the pills.

They all want to take the pills desperately.

Look.

The families of the guys who were thrown out just now

[Li's Tongren Pharmacy]

were originally very rich.

But now they are so poor.

[Noodles]

So the people in Taizhou

are getting poorer and poorer for buying the pills?

Exactly.

The profits from selling the pills

have all been earned by the Zhao family.

The Zhao family?

Stop!

[Li's Tongren Pharmacy]

Catch him!

Stop!

How dare you run!

Old man, how dare you run?

Everyone will tell you

[Noodles]

no one can escape

after they become a servant of Zhao's Mansion.

I'm not a servant of Zhao's Mansion.

Your second son couldn't afford Moon Star Herb pills

[Medicine]

so he borrowed money from my young master.

[Noodles]

They signed a contract and your son mortgaged

his house, farmland and all the members of your family.

[Medicine]

Are you going to deny it?

I...

You deny it?

I...

Beat him!

[Noodles]

Miss.

Stay out of it.

They are from the Zhao family.

So what?

They also need to obey laws.

In Taizhou,

the Zhao family makes laws.

What's going on?

[Pharmacy]

Mr. Moyan.

You know me?

I'm a servant in Zhao's Mansion.

I met you in the mansion before.

Why is he here?

Good.

Why are you making a scene here?

I heard the noise when I was in the pharmacy.

It's nothing.

[Li's Tongren Pharmacy]

This old man tried to escape from Zhao's Mansion.

So we caught him.

[Pharmacy]

I see.

He is lucky

that I'm here.

Let him go.

But...

The Zhao family is so rich.

They don't lack servants.

Well...

Don't worry.

I'll go to Zhao's mansion

and explain to the butler later.

I think he won't blame you.

Okay.

Go.

Let's go.

[Pharmacy]

Let me help you up, sir.

Take a look.

Would you like vegetables I grow myself?

Senior Brother has something to do with the Zhao family?

[Medicine]

Sir.

Here is the money.

Bye, Miss.

[Zhao's Mansion]

Young Master.

Duke sent the reply.

He said

we could make business decisions ourselves.

But he also asked us to investigate the backgrounds of our business partners carefully.

and make sure nothing will go wrong.

It's been so many years.

Nothing has gone wrong.

Why is Duke so worried now?

It's said that

the capital hasn't been very peaceful recently.

Those from the Zichen Department

arrested Lord Lu Rongchang.

It's normal for Duke

to be worried now.

Send a reply to Duke.

Tell him the small Zichen Department

won't be able to cause us trouble

in Taizhou.

Well,

what about the business partners?

Let Accountant Li select the business partners.

He knows everything about the business.

I will

invite the business partner to dinner some day.

Yes.

[Li's Tongren Pharmacy]

Mr. Moyan.

Have a seat.

Mr. Moyan.

Since Lu Rongchang got arrested,

it has been difficult for us to sell Moon Star Herb pills

in the capital.

We overstocked lots of the pills

and suffered great losses.

Do you know how to help us out?

Duke sent me here

to solve this problem.

I went to the pharmacy.

The formula for the pills sold in Taizhou

can be improved

so the pills can have stronger effects.

Then put the new pills into the water source of the city.

So everyone in Taizhou will take pills from the water

and they'll get addicted to the Moon Star Herb.

In this way,

they'll have to buy the Moon Star Herb pills.

Mr. Moyan.

But...

This is a short-sighted solution.

The people of Taizhou

don't have much money left now.

I didn't expect you to care about the people of Taizhou.

Do you want me to compliment you on your kind heart

in front of your boss?

No.

Follow this formula.

Go.

Senior Brother.

Rong.

You're back so early.

I'll ask someone to cook something for you.

Senior Brother.

I heard the conversation between you and the guy from the Zhao family.

Rong.

We used to collaborate with them

because Master said

though the Moon Star Herb was prohibited,

it could help the people in Taizhou.

But now you've seen

what people of Taizhou are suffering.

Why are you still helping the Zhao family do bad things?

Rong, keep your voice down.

I have my reasons.

I can't explain to you now.

Because you know you're doing a wrong thing, right?

I'll catch Mr. Zhao and send him to the government now

so they won't be able to do business anymore.

Stupid!

What's the point of catching the son of the Zhao family?

Government officials in Taizhou are all corrupt now.

As long as the water passages are controlled by the Zhao family,

there will always be Moon Star Herbs in Taizhou.

Senior Brother, you...

Rong.

I'm doing what Master ordered me to do before she died.

I have to obey her order.

Master would also make mistakes.

Rong.

Rong.

Young Master.

I've brought you the person you want to see.

What is his background?

He's from the Liu family who runs the logistics business on waterways and roads in Zhuozhou.

In my early years,

-I got to know the manager of their family business. -Mr. Zhao.

His son is here today.

-Have you ever seen him before? -Hi, Mr. Zhao.

No.

But he brought the seal of the Liu family with him.

I deliberately made several mistakes

when describing his family business.

And he pointed them out one by one.

There should be no problem with his background.

Where is he?

He’s waiting in the room.

Nice to meet you, Mr. Zhao, I'm from the Liu family.

Nice to meet you too, Mr. Liu.

Have a seat.

Did you arrive in Taizhou today?

I've been here for a few days.

What do you think about

the customs in Taizhou?

No one commits crimes here.

Everyone obeys the law.

It's the perfect place where we can do business.

You're quite interesting.

Let's talk about the business first.

I'll hold a banquet for you tonight.

Let's get drunk.

I'll be there, thank you.

I've been busy in the accounting room all day.

Give me one pill.

The accountant only gave me two pills.

They're not enough for me.

Just give me one.

No way.

You're so stingy.

Tell me.

Where is the Zhao family's ledger about their smuggling business?

How dare you!

Do you know where this is?

Cut the crap and tell me.

You're not allowed to get the ledger

hidden in the secret box.

How can I open the secret box?

I've been a servant of the Zhao family for ten years.

I won't tell you

that the key is with my young master.

Where is he?

You want to get close to him?

Dream on.

My young master is having dinner in the front hall with guests.

The hall is heavily guarded.

No one can enter

except the dancers who got invited.

The Moon Star Herb is really harmful.

His brain is damaged because he took many Moon Star Herb pills.

Let's welcome Mr. Liu.

Let's raise our glasses.

Thank you, Mr. Zhao.

Mr. Zhao.

Here.

Please.

Mr. Zhao.

A few years ago, I focused on preparing for the imperial examination for selecting officials.

I didn't handle my family business until recently.

The I got to know you.

I am so lucky to have you be my business partner.

Mr. Zhao.

I hope we'll have good collaboration

in the future.

No problem.

It's so generous of you

to let me have 40% of the profits.

Of course

I'd like to be your friend.

Mr. Zhao.

The details of our business

have basically been settled.

When will we exchange ledgers?

Mr. Liu.

I'm afraid I can't give you

the ledger right now.

Mr. Zhao.

You must be kidding.

When it comes to business collaboration,

business partners all need to exchange ledgers first.

Mr. Liu.

You know why I don't want to give it to you.

You know what business we're doing.

Our ledgers are not real ledgers.

The illicit income we have

and the money we bribed the senior official with

can't be recorded in the ledgers.

The senior official?

Which senior official are you talking about?

Mr. Liu.

You shouldn't ask this question.

When you start doing the business with us,

you'll know it.

Greetings, Mr. Zhao.

Mr. Liu.

Do you like the dancers I brought?

I'll let you pick one first later.

You may start.

Yes.

Where did you find that dancer?

She is a terrible dancer.

[Respect for Nature and Collection of Blessings]

Well.

Maybe she is a novice.

So she can't cooperate with the other dancers well.

What should we do now?

Mr. Liu will laugh at us because of that terrible dancer.

Should we serve them the good things now?

Serve them the tea.

[Respect for Nature and Collection of Blessings]

All right, all right.

Stop and come back.

All of you, come in.

Serve the tea.

[Respect for Nature and Collection of Blessings]

Ladies,

how does the tea taste?

[Respect for Nature and Collection of Blessings]

Here.

No.

Xu...

Xu...

Mr. Liu, do you know her?

No.

I mistook her for someone else.

Mr. Zhao.

Did you add the Moon Star Herb to your tea?

Of course.

Normally, people will be too weak to stand after taking Moon Star Herb pills.

They'll become unconscious too.

Soon you'll know

what great fun you can have with her.

If so,

I'll leave now.

[Respect for Nature and Collection of Blessings]

Mr. Liu, you're really not a hypocrite.

Make yourself at home.

Everyone.

Let's continue.

-Come on. -Okay.

Here.

Who is it?

[Duting Inn]

Which brothel is that girl from?

[Respect for Nature and Collection of Blessings]

She should be the top beauty in Chunfeng Brothel.

Have you ever seen her before?

She looks unfamiliar.

Send someone to investigate

which girls Chunfeng Brothel sent here today.

Yes.

Young Master!

Young Master! Young Master!

Bad news!

A servant was knocked out.

The guard found him when patrolling the yard.

Did he see who had knocked him out?

I asked him.

He said it was a female thief.

Go and check

whether Liu is still in the backyard.

Yes.

[Zhao's Mansion]

Young Master.

When I went there yesterday,

Mr. Liu was in his room.

But I asked the servants.

They said after the banquet last night,

nothing happened in Mr. Liu's room.

It seemed that he didn't go back to his room directly.

I've asked those of Chunfeng Brothel.

They said they only sent six girls.

So the one Mr. Liu took

wasn't from Chunfeng Brothel.

That woman knocked out a servant.

She must have an ulterior motive.

She even knows Mr. Liu.

Things are more complicated than we thought.

Maybe she is an officer in plain clothes

from the Ministry of Justice or Zichen Department

and came to Taizhou to investigate us.

Young Master.

What should we do next?

Calm down.

It was just my guess.

I'll find out more about her later.

Hopefully I'm just overthinking it.

But if not,

we should let our guests

know how we treat distinguished guests in Taizhou.

Yes.

Young Master.

Mr. Liu is here.

Mr. Liu.

Did you sleep well last night?

Thank you for asking.

I slept well last night.

Really?

But why did the servants say

nothing had happened

in your room last night?

And the girl you took is also missing.

I asked her to go back.

I didn't let her sleep in my room.

Are you

kind of impotent?

I'm so embarrassed, Mr. Zhao.

It's okay. I'm a man. I know how you feel.

But you need to see a doctor because of it.

Coincidentally, a famous doctor has come to my mansion.

I'll ask him to feel your pulse

and prescribe you some medicine.

Mr. Zhao.

Don't bother.

Servants!

Yes.

Bring the doctor here.

Yes.

Why am I in the inn?

Where do you want to be?

Sleeping on the street?

Who took me back?

Xu Mu...

Xu Muchen.

Did you see Xu Muchen last night?

Did you kill him?

No.

I went to Zhao's Mansion

and saw Xu Muchen.

Then I drank some tea

and passed out.

Liu Rong.

Can you find a better excuse?

Last time, you said you had passed out after drinking wine.

Now you would pass out too after drinking tea?

I think you still love him.

So you didn't kill him.

Senior.

There was something in the tea.

I think Moon Star Herb pills were added to the tea.

Moon Star Herb?

All pharmacies in Taizhou

sell Moon Star Herb pills now.

Only the Zhao family

knows the procedures of making those pills.

Senior Brother is also involved in the business.

That can't be his own decision.

I'm sure Master ordered him to do that.

Could it be that

the Moon Star Herbs that were hidden in our places

were used to make those pills?

Where is Senior Brother?

I received a letter from him this morning.

He left in a hurry.

Letter?

Is it the Zhao family again?

Senior, wait for him here.

I'll go out and look for him.

Hello, Mr. Moyan.

Hello, Mr. Zhao.

Have you ever seen this gentleman?

No.

Who is he?

He is Mr. Liu from Zhuozhou.

He's here to discuss business collaboration with me.

Hello, Mr. Liu.

Mr. Liu.

He is Mr. Moyan from the capital.

Hello, Mr. Moyan.

Mr. Liu.

Mr. Moyan escaped from

the prison of the Zichen Department in the capital.

He saw officials of the Zichen Department

and the Ministry of Justice.

He even got interrogated by Xu Muchen.

He has been through a lot.

Mr. Zhao, you're wrong.

Xu Muchen is quite capable.

I was lucky

to have escaped from him.

Mr. Moyan, don't be too modest.

I'd like to know how you escaped from prison.

Please tell me about it some other time.

Mr. Moyan.

Is your new formula ready?

I asked the butler to make some new pills yesterday.

The effects of the new pills are not bad.

Young Master.

Mr. Zhao, do you want to try it?

We should give good things to our guests first.

Mr. Liu is our distinguished guest today.

Mr. Liu.

What do you think?

Mr. Zhao.

Actually,

the new pills have very strong effects.

If one has never taken Moon Star Herb pills before,

they may die

if they take the new pills.

Mr. Moyan, you must be joking.

If Mr. Liu has never taken the Moon Star Herb pills before,

how come he came all the way

to do the Moon Star Herb business with me?

Unless

he's not the son of the Liu family.

Am I right?

Mr. Liu.

Of course I take Moon Star Herb pills.

Mr. Liu.

Are you okay?

Yes.

The effect of the new pills is indeed 100 times stronger than old ones.

You are right.

Mr. Liu.

I didn’t lie to you.

From now on, we'll do the Moon Star Herb business

together in Taizhou.

Let's go. I'll show you the goods.

Greetings, Mr. Zhao.

Who are they?

Why are the two together?

Could it be that Senior Moyan secretly colluded

with the Zichen Department

and killed Master?

They asked me to help them make a living

so I let them be the guards in the mansion.

Now that you're here, work hard.

Thank you, Mr. Zhao.

Xu Muchen?

Oh no.

You're Xu Muchen from Zichen Department?

Moyan!

How dare you betray the Duke!

Capture them!

Xu Muchen.

How dare you...

You...

Xu Muchen.

I'll avenge my master.

Rong.

Liu Rong.

Kill him. Don't hesitate.

Xu Muchen.

It's time to tell her

Master is not dead.

Senior Moyan.

Look what you did today.

Do you think I'll still believe you?

Rong.

Master is not dead.

I'll take you to your master now.

Your master is inside.

Go in.

Master.

Master.

-Master. -Master.

Alright, don't cry.

I'm fine.

I won't disturb you.

Master, what on earth happened?

It was my and Lord Xu's idea.

I was afraid Duke Su would see this through

so I didn't dare to tell you about this.

What was your idea?

That day, I tried to assassinate Lord Xu.

You're from Watermill?

Someone wants to kill Rong.

Protect her.

Who wants to kill Rong?

You're Rong's master?

Duke Su sent you here?

The one who wants to kill Rong

is Duke Su, right?

He's so cruel.

Why are you still working for him?

He did everything for Jing Dynasty.

Don’t slander him.

Fine.

Let me show you something.

You'll understand after you see it.

This

is what Duke Su wants the most.

It's also the ledger you asked Rong to steal.

But have you ever thought about

why Lord Hu and his family

got killed just because of this ledger?

[Duke Su conspired with the enemy. The evidence of his crimes is in Taizhou.]

It says that there are Moon Star Herbs in Taizhou

and that Duke Su is a traitor.

How did you get this ledger?

Lord Hu's daughter

risked her life to take this out.

[March 6, Year 8]

[February 1st, Year 8]

Do you know

[November 4th, Year 7]

[October 28, Year 7]

why Duke Su keeps growing the Moon Star Herb?

It's not a big deal if he just wanted to earn illicit money from it.

But I’m afraid he wants to shake Jing’s foundation.

How can I trust you

just because of this ledger?

This ledger was left

by my father when he was working on the flood control in Taizhou.

He died not long after that.

With so many evidences being here,

do you still think

Duke Su is devoted to the country?

If you still don't believe me,

we can go to Taizhou to find out the truth.

But before that,

please cooperate with me and make Rong believe I killed you

so that Rong will hate me.

Then Duke Su won't kill her.

So I asked Moyan to make medicines

which can make one's breath not felt.

You know

what happened next.

It was Master's order.

I had to obey it.

I came to Taizhou with Lord Xu this time

and let Moyan cooperate with Lord Xu.

What I saw in Taizhou

is the evidence

that we, the Watermill

has always been fooled and used by Duke Su.

So,

Duke Su planned all this?

Master, was it your idea to let Senior Brother

work with the Zhao's family?

After I feigned death,

Moyan understandably became Duke Su's pawn

to control Watermill.

So Mr. Zhao would listen to him.

What about the new pills Senior Brother made?

The pills he made are the antidotes to the poison of the Moon Star Herb.

If one takes the pills,

at first the pills will have similar effects as those of Moon Star Herb.

But if one keeps taking them for a long time,

they'll become less and less addicted to the Moon Star Herb.

Rong.

Lord Xu was worried about you.

He didn't want you to be in danger.

Go now.

He's waiting for you outside.

[Virtue and Morality]

[Virtue and Morality]

I'm sorry.

I'm sorry I made you sad.

Why didn't you tell me everything earlier?

Duke Su has many spies.

I was afraid he would see through us.

Besides,

Su Jinzhen was the one who divorced me,

not you.

What do you mean?

After we solve the case,

I have to marry another girl.

I'm talking about you.

Did mother get angry with me

because I left without telling everyone?

No, she didn't.

She scolded me instead.

Besides,

I came to Taizhou to do two things.

One is to investigate the case of the Moon Star Herb.

And the other

is more important.

What is it?

Are you going to catch Willow Leaf Thief Liu again?

[Virtue and Morality]

At my mother's request,

I came to Taizhou to take my wife back.

When I first came to Taizhou,

I also went to the river.

The place where we separated.

After we were separated that day,

I was rushed into the downstream forest.

Luckily, you taught me

how to identify the direction by observing stars.

Otherwise, I wouldn't be able to get out of the forest.

After that, Master adopted me.

She saved my life.

Then I joined Watermill.

I was washed off the plank that day.

Luckily, the flood sent me to the river bed.

Some kind people saved me.

But when I remembered

that I needed to find my father,

I got the news that my father had died.

We promised to go see each other at the dock.

Did you go there later?

I went there once without telling my master about it.

But I didn't see you.

After I was saved,

I had a high fever every day.

When I could go out,

I waited for you there every day.

If you could wait a few more days,

the story of us would be different now.

I couldn't persuade Master to let me go back then.

I didn't dare to go out.

I could only pray for your safety.

I didn't expect to see you again.

Look at that star.

Its location changes every day.

[Virtue and Morality]

But after a year,

it would go around the moon again.

That's what stars do.

People are the same.
