[My Wife is A Thief]

[Episode 21]

Your father

gave the ledger to Lord Hu personally.

Lord Hu had studied it for many years,

but he couldn't figure anything out.

Muchen,

are you sleepy?

I'm not.

Muchen,

I'm going to show you a trick. What do you think?

What trick?

Come.

Come.

Okay.

[Fountain grass]

[Fountain grass grows on a hemp field, and it stands upright...]

[When white sand is mixed with black dye, both of them turn black]

[Fountain grass grows on hemp field, and it stands upright without support. When white sand is mixed with black dye, then both of them turn black]

Father,

how did you do that?

I

added this potion to the ink.

So the characters will disappear gradually.

Can they reappear?

Of course.

Look.

[Fountain grass grows on hemp field, and it stands upright without support. When white sand is mixed with black dye, then both of them turn black]

Muchen,

what are you doing?

Uncle,

my father had a bottle of potion

that can make characters disappear.

The characters will reappear when exposed to fire.

[The evidence of Duke Su's treason is in Taizhou]

The mastermind back then

indeed is Duke Su.

There should be more characters.

It's just that it's been too long,

so they can't reappear.

Now,

we must go to Taizhou to investigate it.

[Xu's Mansion]

My Lord.

I have something very important to tell you.

The coroner has examined the bodies of the men

who went to assassinate Miss Hu yesterday.

The poison in their mouths is still the same

as that found in those cases.

But we found this

on them.

Maybe their target was not Miss Hu,

but... Young Madam.

Why would these people want to assassinate Young Madam?

They don't have a reason to do that.

Because of me.

She has a special identity

and she's deeply involved with me.

The mastermind

now wants to kill her.

Should we send more men

to your mansion

to protect Young Madam?

They have many tricks.

No matter how many people we send,

we can't protect her forever.

As long as she is my wife,

they won't stop.

Unless...

Unless what?

Unless...

she has nothing to do with me.

[Elegant Residence in Spring Sunshine]

Young Madam.

Young Madam.

Why are you sleeping here?

Is Young Master back?

He left home from the study early in the morning.

What about Miss Hu?

Miss Hu accompanied Young Master

in the study the whole night.

I think she has gone back to rest now.

Young Madam.

Xu Muchen,

you have no conscience.

I shouldn't have saved you

on the execution ground.

Young Madam,

if Young Master died on the execution ground,

you would have become a widow, right?

Now I'm so angry because of him.

I'd rather be a widow.

Young Master has gone too far.

You're the daughter of Duke Su.

Even you don't have so many servants

after you married into Xu's Mansion.

Miss Hu is just a concubine.

What I mean is

she's not even a concubine.

Xiao Qiu.

Do you think your young master

really likes Miss Hu?

It's what happens in storybooks anyway.

Li Yi in The Legend of Huo Xiaoyu,

Cai Bojie in The Story of Pipa,

and Liu Zhiyuan in The Story of White Rabbit

all have a wife but get married with someone else again.

No.

I must go talk to him.

Young Madam,

why don't you go later?

Why?

Maybe they are together now.

Then I have to go.

I'm going to let her know

who is the young madam of the Xu family.

[Chamber of Maple Scent]

You...

Young Madam Xu.

Xu Muchen, come out!

Sit here for a while.

I'll be right back.

Honey, what's up?

So you know I'm your wife.

Why did you let Miss Hu live here?

It's personal.

It's not your concern.

Are you really going to take a concubine?

We're just a nominal couple.

It's none of your business whether I take a concubine or not.

Young Madam Xu,

Miss Qin has an important guest upstairs today.

It's not convenient to see you.

Miss Qin,

I'm Su Jinzhen.

I'm here to deliver something.

Let her come upstairs.

Young Madam Xu, please.

Rong, you're here.

What's the matter?

Sit.

What brings you here?

Rong,

Master is asking you.

Rumor has it that

Xu Muchen is going to take a concubine.

Is that true?

Anyway, you are a fake couple.

Since he has fallen in love with someone else,

it will be easier for you to get away.

You're so sad.

Are you in love with him?

No.

What happened then?

Did Xu Muchen bully you?

What on earth happened?

Say something. I'm so worried.

Mumu,

since she doesn't want to tell us,

don't push her.

Rong,

did you get

what I asked you to get?

I'm incompetent.

I failed to complete the task.

Master,

Xu Muchen is cunning.

It's normal that she can't get it for now.

In that case,

you don't need to get the jade pendant.

Complete another task

and then go back to Watermill.

Master,

let me do it.

She can't complete the task even if you let her do it.

Master,

what task?

Kill Xu Muchen personally.

Master,

Watermill never kills people.

This time, it's different.

Xu Muchen has to die.

Master,

why don't you ask someone else to do it?

Rong has never killed anyone.

I told you.

She can only complete this task herself.

No one else is allowed to interfere.

Rong,

I know you have feelings for him.

Just because you have feelings for him,

you can kill him

without anyone noticing.

This poison takes effect very quickly.

He won't feel anything.

Master,

I know Xu Muchen.

He's not a bad guy.

Master,

let me and Mumu do it.

Can't you understand what I said?

If you are still a disciple of Watermill,

you must kill him personally.

If you are still a disciple of Watermill,

you must kill him personally.

[Su's Residence]

[Auspicious house available for sale]

Young Madam.

Young Madam, finally, you're back.

I was so worried.

Is Young Master back?

Not yet.

Young Madam,

you have no idea how annoying Miss Hu is.

She stays in Mrs. Xu's room all day long to flatter her.

Mrs. Xu actually has bought it.

Young Madam, I'm not being nosy.

If you don't do anything

and indulge that temptress,

you're the one who will suffer in the end.

Xiao Qiu, I'm hungry.

Go prepare dinner.

Lord Gongyang.

Xu Muchen,

I've been waiting for you.

What brings you here?

Lu Rongchang confessed.

Confessed?

Duke Su is the mastermind.

But this matter involves many people.

Lu Rongchang's testimony

is not enough to bring him down.

So, I plan to go to Taizhou personally

to find the evidence.

I'll leave

the security of the capital to you.

Let me go there.

What?

You still want to compete with me for the credit?

This is the Ministry of Justice's case.

When my father died in Taizhou back then,

he left the evidence of Duke Su's treason.

If I go to Taizhou this time,

I can settle old and new scores with him.

Since you want to take revenge,

I'll let you catch him.

But let me make it clear.

I

must take the credit.

Master,

you know Rong has feelings for Xu Muchen,

but you still asked her to complete such a task.

This is too cruel.

I'm saving her.

Saving her?

Duke Su firmly believes

Rong is on Xu Muchen's side

and wants to kill her.

Only by killing Xu Muchen

can she save herself.

But Duke Su has always been ruthless.

Even if Rong really kills Xu Muchen,

he...

I have no choice

but to save Rong with Xu Muchen's life.

I don't have the heart.

I don't have the heart to kill him.

Master,

I know maybe you won't forgive me,

but I can't

complete this task.

Even if you expel me,

I can't kill Xu Muchen.

So you're here.

I've been looking for you everywhere.

Why?

Why don't you go accompany your Miss Hu?

Let's go back to our room.

I have something to tell you.

You can tell me here.

I'm busy.

I've been thinking about it for a long time.

Miss Hu is from a noble family.

If she marries me as a concubine,

it'll be too unfair for her.

You and I

are just a nominal couple.

Why don't we divorce?

Okay.

We've been waiting for so long. Why hasn't he come out yet?

That's right.

I'm so anxious.

We've been waiting for a long time.

That's right.

Boss,

what's going on?

Are you going to sell storybooks or not today?

-That's right. -That's right.

Are you going to sell them or not?

Calm down.

Everyone,

calm down.

Calm down.

The storybooks are ready.

But I just heard

something more shocking.

What is it?

What is it?

So I specially invited a writer

to write the story in the room.

The number is limited.

First come, first served.

First come, first served.

Line up! Line up!

Don't squeeze.

What is so shocking?

Tell us first.

If you fool us,

we'll be waiting all morning for nothing.

-That's right. -That's right.

What if you fool me?

This is what everyone wants, right?

Yes.

Listen up.

Lord Xu Muchen of the Zichen Department divorced his wife.

-Divorced? -Divorced?

He married Duke Su's daughter

under His Majesty's edict, right?

That's why Lord Xu is fearless.

He just directly divorced Duke Su's daughter.

That's not right.

That's not right.

How could Lord Xu do this?

Is what you said true?

Well... of course it's true.

Art originates from life

and transcends life.

Where did you hear it?

Everyone in Xu's Mansion knows it.

Boss,

w-what about the details?

Tell us.

T-Tell us.

As for the details,

buy the book and read it yourself after you go back.

Then hurry up.

Okay.

I'm going to rush him.

I'm going to rush him.

Hurry up.

Okay.

What?

Xu Muchen divorced his wife?

Could it be that Xu Muchen found it out

when Rong took action?

I told you we can't let Rong do this.

I mean...

Rong has never killed anyone.

How could she be a match for Xu Muchen?

Master,

what should we do now?

Mumu,

let's go take Rong back first.

Stop.

I'll go.

Don't act rashly.

Yes.

Yes.

Xu Muchen really divorced his wife?

Yes.

It happened last night.

Something is not right.

My Lord,

everyone in the capital knows it.

I think

it's true.

A divorce is a disgrace to the family.

How could everyone in the capital know it overnight?

Xu Muchen must have done it on purpose

to make me lower my guard against Liu Rong.

My Lord,

what should we do next?

Follow Liu Rong

and find a chance to kill her.

Whether the divorce is true or not,

Liu Rong is already useless to me.

It won't matter even if we kill her.

Yes, My Lord.

Stop!

Drop your weapons!

Drop them!

-Step aside! -Step aside!

Master,

please don't kill Xu Muchen.

You can beat me or punish me if you want.

Please let him go.

I'm begging you, just this once!

If I don't kill him today,

you and I will die.

Get out of my way!

Xu Muchen, leave.

For the sake of our love,

please don't kill my master, okay?

I asked you to leave. Can't you hear me?

It's none of your business.

Step aside.

I'm not going anywhere.

Master.

Master!

Master.

Master.

Yu Luocha,

it's your own dart that is going to take your life.

I can give the Ministry of Justice an explanation.

Liu Rong,

for the sake of our love,

I'll spare your life today.

If we meet again,

I won't show mercy.

Master.

Master.

Rong,

leave the capital.

Don't avenge me.

Master.

Master.

Master!

Master.

Wake up, Master.

Master!

How can I not be angry?

She was my daughter-in-law.

I was supposed to have a grandchild soon.

She left because you made her angry.

Tell me.

When will you get Zhen back?

Mother,

I'm going to be honest with you.

Her name is not Su Jinzhen.

Her name is Liu Rong.

She...

She is not the daughter of Duke Su?

Duke Su asked her to be his daughter's substitute.

I don't care.

It's better that she has nothing to do with Duke Su.

I just want my daughter-in-law to come back.

Tell me.

When will you get her back?

Really?

You're not lying to me?

Why would I lie to you?

Young Master.

Young Master,

Lord Liu wants to see you.

His Majesty has secretly allowed you

to go to Taizhou to investigate the Moon Star Herb's case.

You can also investigate

your father's case.

But I just don't know

how you want to investigate it.

If Duke Su has been doing the Moon Star Herb business,

it will involve smuggling and transportation for sure.

I want to start from this aspect.

I want to go to Taizhou

to see who has been working for Duke Su.

Muchen,

you and I share the same thought.

We received a tip-off

that the Zhao family has monopolized

the water transportation in Taizhou.

Also, they have engaged

in private transportation of goods with the Yue State.

So you'll need a new identity if you want to go to Taizhou.

This is the roster.

I've prepared it for you.

[Liu Chengzhi, Master of the Liu family in Taizhou]

Mr. Liu?

Yes.

The background of Mr. Liu on the roster

is real.

It's just that I've replaced him with you.

The Liu family is also a tycoon.

It's better for you to approach the Zhao family

as a businessman.

I've arranged everything.

Just play it by ear after you arrive there.

I see.

Come on, Muchen,

with this cup of tea, I propose a toast to you

and wish everything will go smoothly.

Thank you, Uncle.

[Xu's Mansion]

Brother Muchen,

be careful on your way.

I will.

I've asked Lord Gu

to rent a small house for you in the suburbs.

In a few days,

he will help you move there personally.

I've accepted Shanshan as my goddaughter.

After you leave,

I'll find a way to pick a nice husband for her.

Then she can get married proudly

as the young lady of the Xu family.

Don't worry.

Mother,

take care of yourself too.

Brother Muchen, don't worry.

When you're away,

I'll take good care of Mother.

Thank you.

[Xu's Mansion]

Xiao Dong.

[Xu's Mansion]

Take this.

[Plum Blossom Collection]

Mother,

what is this?

This is the Plum Blossom Collection your father made when he was alive.

Before he went to Taizhou, he said

the peach blossom in Taizhou was in full bloom

and he would bring one back to me

to put it in the book when he came back.

Then he would draw a Peach Blossom Collection.

But after he went there...

Mother, don't worry.

After I finish handling the case,

I'll bring you a Peach Blossom Collection.

I'll wait for you at home.

It's dangerous.

You must come back safely.

Mother, don't worry.

Senior,

where are the embroiderers and workers?

I laid them off.

Where are you going?

I found out that Xu Muchen is going to Taizhou.

We'll follow him there to avenge our master.

What?

Rong,

leave it

to Mumu and me.

You should go out of the city these days

and go somewhere quiet to relax.

Don't worry about other things.

Why not?

It happened because of her.

Master died to save you.

You should kill Xu Muchen personally

to avenge her.

Why are you standing here?

Go pack your things.

What's meant to happen

can't be avoided.

[Jinxin Embroidery House]

You...

That's right.

I'm also a member of Watermill.

Can you stay?

I'm a thief.

You are a lord of the Ministry of Justice.

We are on different sides.

There is no need to force ourselves.

[Jinxin Embroidery House]

Mumu,

without you,

my life would be meaningless.

So what if my career is smooth?

[Letter of Resignation]

I've spent half of my life,

but in the end, I can't keep the one I love by my side.

I'll still be regretful even if the world is mine.

[Taizhou]

So? Did you successfully buy it?

Yes.

Try it.

Sir,

give me...

Three rooms.

Okay, three rooms.

Mumu,

we should be frugal when we are away from home.

Just share one room with Rong.

Sir,

two rooms, please.

-Okay. -Sir,

is this room available?

Yes.

It's available.

Rong.

Senior,

I want to take a walk by myself.

Okay.

This is your first time here.

Take a walk around yourself.

Be careful.

You're Mr. Liu from Zhuozhou?

Greetings, Mr. Li.

Do you have any proof?

This is the token of the master of the Liu family.

My father said

you can tell at a glance.

Please have a seat.

Tell me about your family's assets.

Seven restaurants,

13 sea routes,

and five inns.

I heard the Liu family will open another restaurant.

Mr. Li, you must have misheard.

My family is planning to sell two restaurants

for the capital turnover.

That's right.

Although you are young,

you know very well

about your family's business.

If someone is willing to help,

you will definitely become successful.

Mr. Li, please enlighten me.

[500 tales]

Mr. Liu,

go home to get ready first

and then come to Zhao's Mansion to see me.

I'll introduce you to my young master.

Okay.

I'll follow your arrangement.
