[Episode 36]

Mr. Geng, that Lai guy is becoming more and more bold.

We need to do something.

Mr. Geng.

Those who steal hooks shall be executed.

Those who steal countries become princes.

Huan.

Do you hate me?

So you torment me every night in my dream.

Do you also think like those old ministers that

I'm greedy for power?

Huan.

Qi cannot speak well.

And Xichen and Nanlang are aiming at us.

I'm holding up the Dacang all by myself.

I don't owe you anything.

Empress Dowager.

Now the court is unstable, you should take more care of your health.

I'm fine.

The Imperial Preceptor has passed away,

and we face both domestic strife and foreign aggression.

So I feel troubled.

Have you properly arranged the imperial court's affairs?

As you requested,

I have trusted Vice Minister Lai to assist with the imperial court's affairs.

Vice Minister Lai has said,

hoping you don't worry about imperial court's affairs and take a good rest.

Okay.

I still remember the Imperial Preceptor had worked hard for the country.

Before he died,

he tried his best to prophesy for the Dacang.

I wish…

I wish the Dacang could be

as peaceful

as the Imperial Preceptor prophesied.

[Lu's Pawnshop]

Hurry up!

- Qi Yeyun. Come out now. - I'm coming.

- What's wrong? Why close the shop in broad daylight? - Close the shop now.

You're cooped up at home all day. Aren't you curious about anything outside?

Great calamity has befallen.

The Empress Dowager is seriously ill.

Now the Black Fiend is in power, everything is about to change.

It is said that several loyal ministers who opposed Lai Luozhi have been assassinated.

In such times, why would we even keep our shop open?

The country is in turmoil.

This is a business opportunity for our pawnshop.

How foolish! Let me ask you.

Which one is more important, money or life?

Close the shop now!

Vice Minister Lai, what brings you here in the Imperial Guards?

Now, the Jin clan has been detained in the Imperial Guards.

Yet you haven't proceeded with the trial.

Great Chief, do you think that the Empress Dowager is serious illness

and you can be negligent in your duty?

We still need more evidence.

Evidence? What I brought with me today is the evidence.

Great Chief, proceed with the trial and judgment immediately.

How can I make a judgment based solely on your words?

If you don't, fine then. I'll do it.

Lai Luozhi.

Are you openly showing contempt for the authority of my department?

You still have no right to intervene in the affairs of the Imperial Guards.

The Imperial Inspectorate cannot, but I, Lai Luozhi, can do it.

Do not forget that.

The Empress Dowager has granted me the right to reward and punish officials at my discretion.

Guards!

Shen Du of the Imperial Guards is negligent in his duty while the Empress Dowager is ill.

He is hereby detained and awaits for trial.

What? How dare you to go against the imperial palace guards!

Great Chief, are you planning a rebellion?

If you kill the commander of the imperial palace guards,

you and everyone in the Imperial Guards will be charged with the crime of treason today.

Who dares!

Lai Luozhi.

Can't believe you brought the Iron Crossbow Troop of imperial palace guards.

The imperial palace guards are cleverer than you guys are.

Those in the Imperial Guards who refuse to be caught,

will be executed on the spot.

Put down your swords.

Please.

Great Chief Shen.

Sir, sir.

Terrible things happened.

Vice Minister Lai is leading the imperial palace guards to surround the Imperial Guards.

Great Chief Shen and everyone in the Imperial Guards

have been thrown into the Imperial Inspectorate's prison.

Lai Luozhi has really laid a hand on Great Chief?

It's true. The Imperial Guards and the Imperial Inspectorate have always been foes.

According to Vice Minister Lai's style,

he might exterminate everyone in the Imperial Guards,

along with their nine generations.

Guards.

Wu Taiming, what do you want to do?

Are you going to hand over Liuniang?

Seize the weapons.

Yes.

Feng Gui.

Get me the appointment document from the Empress Dowager for me and Director Yan.

If that Lai guy dares to come, I'll tell him

that Yan Xing is not only the wife of the Great Chief of the Imperial Guards,

but also the female official of the Ministry of Justice,

specially appointed by the Empress Dowager.

Follow me.

Block the main gate of the Ministry of Justice.

Sir, it's been a long while,

and those from the Imperial Inspectorate haven't come yet.

I've told you. We can't take it lightly.

We can't take it lightly.

Keep guarding.

He didn't come either.

Keep guarding.

Who is it?

Madam.

Liuniang.

- I'm your brother. Liuniang. - Mojie.

- Madam. - Liuniang. - Mr. Zhong.

- Liuniang. - Mr. Zhong.

Open the gate.

- Mojie. - Madam.

Mr. Zhong.

Father told me to bring you back to the Yan Mansion.

We will protect you.

Mojie, thank you all.

Mr. Zhong, today I'll still go back to the Shen Mansion.

Madam.

Please.

I, Yan Xing, thank you all, my colleagues.

Please, Madam.

Is this still the awe-inspiring Great Chief Shen?

I dare not recognize you.

Shen Du.

You really aren't smart.

What a tough guy you are!

Here in the Imperial Inspectorate, I've seen so many tough guys.

After a few times of torture, those who don't want to talk,

can only ask for death.

But you could still stare at me.

Indeed. You really deserve to be my opponent.

The Imperial Inspectorate's torture instruments

are really something.

Fortunately,

I've had the experience.

You are so strong.

If you really died, it would be a pity.

They call you as the White Ghost, and me as the Black Fiend.

If you and I can get along well and work together, then

no one can beat us in this world.

It's a shame for me

to be compared

to someone like you.

You rejected me.

It is widely known you and I are the Empress Dowager's right arms.

But do you know it?

She has long been suspicious you and I have evil intentions,

making us monitor each other and going against each other.

While, she can take advantage of it.

After all, she's the most powerful woman in the world.

She has the world in her hands.

Including you,

me,

and the Shen family

back then.

Has anyone told you

that the Shen family was framed by the Empress Dowager herself?

And you…

You fool!

Yet you served your enemy for so many years.

Where is the evidence?

Evidence?

Don't lie to yourself.

Over these years, you should have realized

in the case of Shen Bingzhu collaborating with the enemy,

there was more than one person wanting him dead.

Why?

Because everyone knew it was the Empress Dowager who wanted him dead.

Dozens of people, not leaving a single one,

except you, a fool.

You're talking nonsense.

You're talking nonsense.

You're talking nonsense!

Yes.

You've seen it.

The fire moth is me.

I am the true leader of the Huo'e Sect.

Shen Du.

You've witnessed the power of the Huo'e Sect.

Why not join me?

[Yan Xing's petition against Lai Luozhi]

Madam.

Madam.

Xiang'an City now is already under Lai Luozhi's control.

So many officials who opposed him have been assassinated.

On your way there, you must be very careful.

Mr. Shen.

No matter how hard it is to get there today,

I will not back down.

What happened to the Shen family will not happen again.

I, Yan Xing, must enter the palace to seek justice from the Empress Dowager.

- Remember to leave the gate open for me. - Yes.

Madam, take care.

Yan Xing, be smart. Don't go any further.

What if I don't?

Do you want to continue assassinating imperial officials in the street?

Is there no law?

Are you alright?

Liuniang. Go do what you want to do.

Yan Liuniang, you fool.

If you want to save your man, hurry.

Thank you.

Let's go.

Yes, of course.

What are you laughing at?

I'm thinking why a girl like you wants to be a heroine.

Because only a heroine can match a great hero.

Right, how is your dowry coming along?

You've been the Marshal of Inspectors for years.

You must have saved up some possessions.

Wait until this is over,

I will definitely hold a grand wedding for you,

and ask all the inspectors to come and celebrate us.

You'll marry off with glory and honor.

Run?

Yes. Go back to the city and look for Jiang Langxing,

This is an order from the Marshal of Inspectors.

You must obey it.

Yes.

No. Mr. Xu didn't actually want me to find support.

He knew it was too late.

He wanted to cover for my escape alone.

Those remaining weak scholars

are even easier to be handled with.

Now the inspectors lose their marshal,

naturally, can't make anything big.

The Marshal of Inspectors is dead.

Great Chief of the Imperial Guards should face reality now.

Why brought me here?

On such a winter night,

I want to bring you here to appreciate the special scenery.

If I didn't know

that Yan Liuniang is a spy sent by Prime Minister Zhang,

I might have been moved by your deep marital affection.

Today, your wife

has bravely stormed the palace gate today,

kneeling for an entire day in the heavy snow.

Vice Minister Lai, you brought me here in the dead of night.

You don't just keep me company to see my wife, right?

I am jealous of you.

Why are there always so many people willing to fight for you?

Perhaps you still don't know.

To protect your wife entering the palace,

Marshal of Inspectors and his woman even sacrificed their lives.

What a tragedy.

Great Chief Shen.

Over these days,

I think you must have understood

how the world will be like in the future.

Great Chief, do you still remember it?

When I gave you the bottle of the heart blood,

you once promised me something.

Whether you are sincere or not,

I need you to stand by my side.

- Of course. - That's good then.

I have always believed you are a man of his word.

Madam.

It snowed a bit.

It's just a pity

that today I couldn't meet the Empress Dowager.

Tomorrow, I will go again.

Shen Du.

You're back.

Did the Empress Dowager release you?

It is Vice Minister Lai.

Vice Minister Lai.

Lai Luozhi released you?

Can't believe it.

What happened to your face? Let me see.

Honey. What's wrong?

Yan Xing.

Let's divorce.

What did you say?

You and I

get a divorce.

Divorce?

Why?

Have you encountered any danger?

Did Lai Luozhi threaten you?

What happened?

Shen Du, do you forget it?

I am Yan Liuniang.

I am the Chief Director of the Ministry of Justice.

Although my rank is not high,

I have also experienced many major cases.

I've never been one who needs protection on her husband.

I can stand by your side

and face the challenges with you.

I am not afraid of trouble, or difficulties.

No matter what happens, I can face it all with you.

Are you afraid of implicating the Yan family?

Shen Du.

If Lai Luozhi wants to lay his hand on us,

even if you and I get a divorce

he will not let the Yan family go.

If we want to protect them,

we might think of a solution together.

Like,

sending the Yan family away from Xiang'an.

And…

Yan Liuniang.

It's not because of the Yan family.

Nor is anyone threatening me.

Actually, it is very simple.

After experiencing this period of time,

I've figured it out.

The Shen family needs a wife who is educated and well-mannered,

and able to support her husband and teach her children.

You cannot provide me with a worry-free household.

Nor do you prioritize me.

You're always trying to win and show off.

You're not a good partner for me.
