[Episode 21]

Competitors, step forward!

Baek Dongsoo...

It wasn’t the swordmaster, but you?

This is a conspiracy against Your Excellency.

To find out their move,

you should pretend to be ignorant of this.

Prince Yi San, you came?

Why are you so late?

It took more time than

expected to finish the Horn Bow.

It’s a faultless bow.

Listen, this is a gift of exchange

for your governor. [Doju: Daemado]

Receive it!

Your Highness, allow me to test

this bow before the competition. [Seupsa: Archery practice]

Go ahead!

What are you waiting for?

Escort His Highness to safety!

Escort His Highness!

You failed me every time. How can I trust you now?

Please kill me, my Lord.

Do you plan to spend rest of your life as an assassin?

This is the Four Tiger sword given to Prince Yi San’s by His Highness himself.

This sword will carve out your name in history.

If the king survives, you’ll die.

However, if the king dies, you’ll survive.

Your Highness, Your Highness!

Do you have the time to be here?

You can't mean...

Samo!

Go ahead!

Blow the siren and expel all the assassins who infiltrated the palace!

Yes, sir!

Stop!

- Arrest them! - Yes, sir!

You scoundrels!

Arrest them!

I’m innocent, you scoundrels!

Let go of me!

I’m innocent, you scoundrels!

- Captain! - Arrest all of them!

Yes, sir!

This is a trap set by Lord Hong Daejoo.

Did you say my bodyguards and Heuksamo were arrested?

The assassins that infiltrated the palace wore the bodyguards’ uniform.

Do you mean this is all?

Yes, it's a trap!

What’s happened?

I took care of everything you asked.

Thanks to you, we got the job done.

What are you going to do with Jeon Heungmun?

He did a big job for me, so I'll have to save his life.

[Heuksa Chorong]

Are you leaving?

Something interesting happened.

Don’t worry about me.

[Heuk: Black]

Did you check it out?

Something seems to have happened during the banquet hosted by His Highness.

It seems to be treason.

Treason?

It seems Lord Hong Daejoo has started real trouble.

Was a Japanese person named Kenzo involved?

I don’t have any details yet.

Please find out more details.

Yes, sir.

Minister of Defense, what’s going on?

Your Highness, it was revealed former bodyguards of the late Crown Prince planned treason.

What did you say?

Tell me everything about this case!

Yes, Your Highness.

Former royal bodyguards plotted a coup d’état.

And they infiltrated the palace at five today.

Some of them came to the banquet with the royal guards and tried to assassinate you.

Fortunately, the Japanese ambassador found out in advance and killed them.

What happened to the other assassins?

I don’t know why, but they all headed to Prince Yi San’s residence.

And a man named Jeon Heungmun killed them all by accident.

That’s a relief.

Who is Jeon Heungmun?

He’s a former wrestler from Hwanghaedo province.

For fear Lord Kim would suffer a humiliating loss against the Japanese ambassador,

I secretly invited him to the palace.

Do you mean he killed all the assassins?

No, Your Highness.

One of them was arrested and is locked in the jail.

His name is Heuksamo.

You scoundrel...

We’ll all be executed soon. What are you laughing at?

I’m afraid it’s not me, [Jeon Heungmun]

but you who’ll be executed.

Me?

What is he talking about?

Come out.

Hey, you scoundrels, what about us?

Then who pulled strings behind this?

I asked you who pulled strings behind this!

Your Highness, I’m sorry to say this...

But Prince Yi San seems to be involved in this incident.

Prince Yi San?

Did you say he’s involved in this incident?

Yes, Your Highness.

Isn’t this the sword I gave to Prince Yi San?

Your Highness, the person who was trying to kill you had this sword.

Everyone, listen to me carefully.

I don’t believe my grandson plotted treason.

No one should say anything until the entire truth is revealed.

If any of you speak out of line,

that person will be executed immediately!

Do you understand?

Yes, Your Highness!

What is this all about?

Everything was planned out by Lord Hong Daejoo.

I only helped him by stealing the sword

from Prince Yi San’s residence.

But do you remember the young man who drove Lord Hong to the edge of a cliff?

Do you mean the man who saved my life?

Yes, Your Highness.

His name is Baek Dongsoo, the disciple of the swordmaster.

He’s a very promising young man.

Why don’t we persuade him to join us?

You two, check where the assassins infiltrated the palace.

And find any traces they left behind.

Yes, sir.

This is a very meticulously prepared plan.

You should check their background.

I’ll do it.

Master.

Are you sick?

No.

Do you mean Samo was arrested and locked inside the jail?

Samo!

He’ll be released as soon as the truth is revealed.

So don’t worry about him.

Auntie!

Where is Jiseon?

I searched everywhere she could possibly be.

When day breaks tomorrow, I’ll visit the police station.

Alright.

How much longer are you going to stay like this?

Do you feel better now?

I was just worried about you. That’s why I’m here.

I’ll get going then.

My baby...

Take them. They belonged to Gaok.

Are these my mom’s belongings?

The moon is beautiful as is the wind.

If I knew you were here, I would have come earlier.

People say, “Time flies.”

Three years have already passed.

So you have no intention of returning to the Black Assassins.

I plan to leave this country.

So far, I've only asked favors of you.

Even if you leave, couldn't you delay your departure?

It must be difficult for you.

Then what about your promise to kill the swordmaster?

Lord Hong, don’t stand behind my back again.

The man who tried to kill His Highness was killed at the scene.

It seems he was Lord Hong Daejoo’s right-hand man.

And since he used Prince Yi San’s sword,

people suspect Prince Yi San of the assassination attempt.

Lord Hong is playing tricks with the entire royal family.

His Highness believes his innocence,

but all the circumstances point to him as the culprit.

Lord Hong will never miss any prey he has in his hands.

It's a crisis not easy to handle.

What will you do, Baek Dongsoo?

Isn’t it a hair broach?

This is for you.

Isn’t this a hair broach?

[Ddeoljam: Ornamental hairpin worn by queen or noblewomen]

Is this what you were looking for?

It was difficult to get this.

This is a hair broach.

Do you mean that lambswool hat was?

It was the late Crown Prince who gave me this hair broach.

Do you still hate me?

I stopped hating you a long time ago.

That’s what Baek Dongsoo taught me.

Look here!

My name is Baek Dongsoo.

Please have a seat.

I heard you saved my life.

So I want to repay your kindness.

Is there anything you want?

I didn’t do it for compensation.

Don’t be modest.

Her Highness, the queen is asking you what you want.

Father, please take good care of him.

Yes, Your Highness.

You rascal, should you be running around the palace right now?

I’m sorry.

Captain, don’t you know any of them?

I've never seen them before.

Go check their personnel records in the royal guards’ headquarters.

[Seonsaengan: Registry with names, addresses and offices of personnel]

Yes, sir.

This is it.

Are these the personnel records of those who tried to kill His Highness?

Don’t you recognize them?

May I copy this?

Because this is important evidence for this conspiracy case.

Yes, go ahead.

This is fabricated.

The ink of those records hasn't even dried.

I’m sure the document wasn’t fabricated more than three days ago.

Let’s look into those who are on the list.

But where have you been at this early hour?

It's nothing important.

Come in!

What’s going on?

This is a gift for Baek Dongsoo from Lord Kim Hangu.

What is this all about?

Let’s go now.

Then.

Oh my, what is all this?

Auntie, Auntie!

Can you spare me some of your time?

Beg pardon?

Auntie, Auntie!

What is this all about?

Lord Kim sent a huge gift to Dongsoo... Silk, fabric, rice and more...

What?

I heard he saved the queen’s life at that time.

So she must have repaid his deed.

That’s right!

Would we get a share too?

You wench, is that the question right now?

We don’t even know what will happen to Samo.

My head!

That’s right, Uncle Samo...

I knew it.

Most of these guys are from the countryside.

They don’t have any relatives in the capital.

I’m sure this information was fabricated.

I found the son of the governor of Chungcheong.

I’ll have to go and see him in person.

Dongsoo, you should see the officer who fabricated this document.

Do you mean you’re going to go all by yourself?

Don’t forget they tried to kill even His Excellency.

You should go with Sanggak.

All I want from them is the truth, not war.

You should escort Sir Hong Gukyeong.

Yes, Your Excellency.

What’s going on? Where is Captain Samo?

He’s still in jail.

Anyhow, Your Excellency, I’ll be back.

Who could have knocked down the guards and broken her out of jail?

It was neither Dongsoo nor Uncle Samo...

Was it my father?

That’s not true.

Was it Yeo Woon?

Have you seen a skinny girl of this height?

No, I haven’t.

Thank you.

Receive this.

This is a lucky wallet made of camel skin.

Camel skin?

Camel skin...

But did you hear the news?

A conspiracy has taken place in the palace.

- Conspiracy? - Again?

Lower your voice! That's what they said.

Anyhow, thank you for the gift!

Please don’t mention it...

You run really fast too!

[House of Kim Hangu]

Please put them down here.

Yes.

We don’t need this.

So tell your master we’re returning it.

Yes, sir.

Father, Father!

Is he in the tavern?

She’s the daughter of Hwang Jinki and Chunsoo?

What a complicated bloodline!

Does she have two mothers too?

Carry her on your back!

What is that?

This is Jinjoo’s broach.

Joo, Joo!

Let me go back home.

I need to go back home now.

You’re still being chased.

I have thought about it a lot.

However, I can’t give up my business like this.

I know how much you care about me.

But I can’t ignore my employees.

Give me a little more time.

I’ll send you home safely.

If you want to be free, be the master of the Black Assassins.

Do whatever you feel like!

Stop it!

That rotten destiny, all you have to do is shake it off!

[Koedonanma: Act decisively to solve a complicated problem]

Did you say

they came to the city archives?

Yes, sir.

Things are getting interesting.

Call Kenzo.

Yes, sir.

I’ll send you safely.

What brings you here today?

Is Lord Hong Daejoo in there?

Yes, sir.

So is that woman doing well?

Please guarantee her safety as you promised me.

You shouldn’t touch a hair on her head or a single thread of her clothing.

Is a great man like you risking the future of

your organization for the sake of a woman?

Her life is like my own life.

I’m sorry, however, I know you’re lying to me.

She’s an excuse.

In reality, you want my neck, don’t you?

That’s not wrong.

To defeat you, I need to first join you, don't I?

That’s right!

That’s the answer I wanted to hear from you.

So do you know how things are going in the palace?

I heard there was a conspiracy.

I know it's a game you plotted with this man.

Introduce yourselves to each other.

He’s the successor of Master Chun.

Then you should know a butcher named Heuksamo is locked in jail.

Can you show me your loyalty by killing that insect-like fellow?

Did my predecessor act like that?

We’re a group of assassins.

However, we need a cause to kill someone.

Of course.

Then I have another job for you.

As for that man named Heuksamo... Would you like to kill him for me?

Please spare me!

I’m sorry.

Please don’t kill me!

This is the real copy.

Please don’t kill me!

Consider yourself dead.

And don’t set foot in the capital again.

Thank you.

Yeo Woon!

Sheathe your sword!

This is for Jiseon too.

Why did you take her with you?

Don’t worry about her.

She’s safer than when she was with you.

Where is she?

Tell me where she is.

Baek Dongsoo.

If you can’t protect her, you should let me take care of her.

What?

Captain Samo is in jail now, isn't he?

You'd better hurry.

Otherwise, the assassins will attack him first.

I wonder if Samo’s alright...

Dongsoo went to rescue him.

Don’t worry.

Listen...

Have you seen my Jinjoo?

Jinjoo?

I found this on the ground in the yard.

That’s hers.

That's right.

Where is she running around now?

Isn’t she here?

Who are you?

Aren’t you Miss Jinjoo's father?

Yes, I am.

Wait a minute!

Why are you helping me out?

It has been a long time since I haven’t trusted Lord Hong Daejoo.

Why don’t you trust me?

This is why I don’t trust you.

Dongsoo!

I came just in time.

Are you okay, Samo?

Samo?

You brat, I would have been okay without you.

Now, would you like to duel with me?

Dongsoo!

Unfortunately, we must take a rain check.

Let’s go.

Are you awake already?

You’re pretty strong for a girl!

Take it easy!

I said take it easy.

Take it easy!

You won’t listen to me.

Okay, good job!

- You may leave now. - Yes.

Why don’t you go with him?

I’m not hanging fire intentionally.

Let’s wait here for a moment.

You brat, you called me Samo again!

So you didn’t forget me.

Wait a minute!

The traitor Heuksamo escaped!

Catch him!

Yes, sir!

We must catch him before day breaks!

He’s a traitor!

What is this commotion about?

My Lord, a traitor has escaped!

What did you say?

Lord Kim, let’s go to the prison house.

What brings you guys here at this hour?

I heard a traitor escaped.

Is there another traitor in this prison?

What does this mean?

Lord Hong, haven’t you seen Master Kim Kwangtaek?

He should be here about now.

Wait for me here.

Yes, sir.

You mean you've collected all the evidence?

Yes, sir.

Then who pulled strings from behind?

Tomorrow, my disciple will reveal the truth.

Please give him your permission.

Okay.

However, you should answer my question first.

Was my grandson involved in this incident?

He’s not involved.

Did you say you ate two hours ago?

He has symptoms of stomach cancer. [Banwi: Stomach cancer]

Did you say stomach cancer?

Yes, Your Highness.

What happened to Samo?

He’s still in jail.

Let’s go back home.

You look pale.

How can I not be pale knowing Samo is still in jail?

Follow me.

It means you killed him, right?

I’ll see you later then.

By chance, couldn’t you find the real copy?

No, I couldn’t.

Why do you go around with blood stains on your hands?

Please pack your belongings.

Don’t move.

[Baek Dongsoo]

Didn’t I tell you not to move?

Do you see this?

You got a good look, right?

You villain!

Because you said that, I’m the bad person now.

You made me the bad person.

Please go back home now.

Thank you.

What does this mean?

Dongsoo, do you know where all those gifts from Lord Kim Hangu went?

What are you talking about?

Didn’t you know?

When you were at the palace,

Lord Kim Hangu sent you gifts such as silk, fabric...

Didn’t you know?

I’m afraid the swordmaster sent it back to Lord Kim Hangu.

Chorip!

Chorip, what’s going on?

I found an eyewitness.

Now, the only thing left to do is to put the rope around Hong Daejoo's neck.

Okay, good work!

Dongsoo, be careful!

They’re not people who'd give gifts without expecting anything in return.

That’s right.

Sir Hong Gukyeong, I have something for you.

Let's go!

Don’t you want it? I said let's go!

Young miss, young miss!

Are you okay?

And Woon?

He wanted me to give you this.

Did you come back to your senses?

Please stay calm.

Let me show you something.

Okay?

Do you know what this is?

Swordmaster, Chunsoo, Baek Dongsoo, Hwang Jinki and Heuksamo...

I'd have to kill them even if I died and was resurrected a hundred times.

That’s why I took you hostage. I’ll tear them to pieces one by one!

What did you say?

Oh right, you have a gag in your mouth.

Okay, I'll untie you.

Of course, I’ll help you.

I’ll kill you.

Untie me now!

Again?

You made me a bad guy.

Didn’t I tell you not to make me a bad guy?

If you lay a finger on any of them, I won’t forgive you!

You should just be a good girl.

I don’t want to get mad and kill you first.

That kind of thing shouldn’t happen. That’s not the right order.

That shouldn’t happen.

So you should be calm like me.

And we’ll play a fun game together.

Did you ask me what kind of game we’re going to play?

It’s yutnori. Let’s pick who I’ll kill first.

Isn’t it fun?

I’m so curious. I’m so curious and excited too!

Who am I going to kill first?

This is destiny.

What in the world is this?

Aren’t you curious?

It’s your father.

You have two fathers, don't you?

Your Highness, I, the general of your royal guards,

am going to reveal the entire truth of this incident.

Aren't these personnel records?

[Seonsaengan: Registry with names, addresses and offices of personnel]

Yes, Your Highness!

This is the original copy of personnel records

and identification tags of Prince Yi San’s former bodyguards.

Did you say original?

Yes, Your Highness.

According to our investigation,

the personnel records we checked were all fabricated.

Did you say the personnel records were fabricated?

How can you be sure that is the original copy?

Without the officer in charge of the personnel records,

we can’t verify the veracity.

Call the officer in charge of the personnel records.

I’m sorry for saying that he was supposed to be here today.

However, he didn’t even come to the palace today.

I can prove the veracity of this document without him.

I have a witness who will prove that this was fabricated.

This identification tag belongs to this man.

My name is Noh Pilyeong.

I’m the son of the governor of Chungcheong province.

From Chungcheong province?

I’m not a member of the royal guards.

I didn’t even pass the bar exam.

Your Highness, those on this list all live in the countryside.

Not one has ever lived in the capital.

Then just who attacked Prince Yi San’s residence?

It was the Japanese!

What did you say? The Japanese?

These are the swords of those who attacked the palace.

How do you know this sword is Japanese?

The Joseon method of swordmaking differs greatly from the Japanese.

They use iron from black volcanic rock.

And they use an alloy of several different metals.

It differs greatly from a Joseon sword.

Is that true?

It’s true, Your Highness.

Your Highness, what he said must be true.

That man confessed that he tried to kill you

taking responsibility for the fake ginseng incident.

Your Highness, this has nothing to do with our governor’s will.

I’ll take the responsibility for this incident by killing myself.

So allow me to do so.

You have already saved my life.

Behead that man and hang his

head in the front of the palace.

Then I will close this case.

[Hyosi: To behead and hang head on a high place displayed to the public]

Your benevolence is infinite, Your Highness.

Are you okay?

I’m totally okay.

You went through a great deal.

I've been through nothing.

This is why I hate the palace!

Let’s go!

Samo, Samo...

How did you manage in jail?

I didn’t sleep a wink, I was so worried about you!

I know you ate and slept just fine.

I was just fine.

Did you come?

Where is Jinjoo?

Kid, this is beef jerky.

Have you ever tried this?

Eat it.

Here you go.

Kid!

Jinjoo!

Jinjoo!

Get out of here!

What do you want from me?

Your neck.

Father, Father!

You should rise to the throne.

Please have him pay respect to

the tomb of the late Crown Prince Hyojang.

Is everything ready?

There will be no problem.

You didn’t kill your father. It wasn’t you.

It was me.

The new Master Chun will have to behead the old Master Chun.
