The beginning of noon!

The hottest time of the day!

What kind of drum is that?

That is the Time Drum from the Bureau of Western District.

Seven times mean that it's early noon.

Just like our Great Tang.

It's the time when it's the hottest time of the day.

After the sun is at it's highest,

it's time for it to set.

It's the festive season.

Don't say something so ominous.

-How to go to Xiuzheng Street? -You want to go to Xiuzheng Street?

It's not hard to find. But it's quite far from the Western District.

Go through five streets towards south....

and seven streets towards east.

That street is filled with luxurious manors.

Are you visiting a friend?

Why is your inner shirt wet?

Ji Jiang.

Ji Jiang.

Ji Jiang.

Ji Jiang.

You called me, father?

Happy Lantern Festival.

What do you want me to do?

Bring me my new starch shirt for this customer.

How uncomfortable it must be to wear wet shirt in the very first month.

Alright.

I hope that you won't mind.

Your daughter?

-How old is she? -Six years old.

When she was born,

her mother is quite old already.

Luckily, she is born extra smart.

She insisted to go and watch the holy lantern.

And the whole family has to comply.

You have great taste.

This knife of mine...

is the best knife among all the knives in the West District shops.

It's secretly made from military-grade Messer sword.

It's fast.

My daughter is taller than her.

You miss your kid?

We have everything in Chang'an.

What does she like?

I can recommend some shops to you.

She likes the stars in the sky.

What an answer.

Father.

Flaming Demon.

What do you mean?

Fortune is upon us.

Be a good girl and stay at home today with your father.

Don't go anywhere, alright?

Is something going to happen?

Fortune is upon us.

" The Longest Day in Chang'an "

Episode 2

Death row convict, Zhang Xiao Jing.

Arrest the Wolven Squad and protect Chang'an.

Can you do it?

Yes, I can.

You won't try to escape, right?

Li Bi is such a fox.

Didn't he say that he'll spare my life?

Why is he afraid that I'll escape?

He lied to me.

Captain Cui.

This man cares for his life only.

He doesn't care about the people. He's worse than Cui Liu Lang.

He sacrificed his life...

so that his brothers will be awarded.

You won't be able to leave.

Tang has very strict law.

Even if you succeed in this,

Chief Li won't be able to keep you alive.

You can leave the cell of Chang'an because...

the Peacekeeper Corps had sent in a letter to transfer you temporarily,

After 24 hours,

you'll be sent back to this death cell.

He had betrayed me behind my back.

This is such an important task. It's beyond a death row convict like me.

You may say your farewell and get lost now!

Go back to your death cell! You can eat millet for a few more months!

Captain Cui is doing this for the lives of the people in Chang'an.

And so is Chief Li.

Naturally, we will...

obey Chief Li's order.

Chief Li.

You lied to me.

Yes.

We are on the same boat today.

Stop pointing a weapon at me.

Go. Next.

Go.

You. Lift up your head.

He already knows that he can't escape death.

If you let him go out armed to the teeth,

I'm afraid that he'll try to escape.

I'll take care of it.

You may leave now.

Yes, Chief Li.

You sword, Commander Zhang.

I had brought it here from Chang'an prison.

A Messer sword should be three feet long.

But yours is only two feet and three inches long. Why?

A short sword is at a disadvantage.

Why did you choose to use a short sword?

It has been with me for 17 years.

Back then, I refused to go into a battle when I was in Stone Fortress.

So, Emperor Xin An had given me this useless sword.

It means that I'm a coward.

I just sat on the wall and watched...

while others were engaged in battle.

It's a sword of humiliation.

And you had used it for so many years.

I'm a sentimental person.

And I'm a person who holds grudges.

I can't get you out from a capital punishment.

And the issue we have today...

is not just a simple extraction of a Wolven Squad.

Do you wish to pull out now?

I want to get out.

You can't stop me.

The Eight Squad stood by their promises.

They die without regrets.

You don't understand The Eight Squad.

Have you heard about Li Bai's new creation?

The forbidden palace is a captivating place...

with a beautiful singing oriole.

She finds all kind of grass and bet on it to find out the toughest one.

At night, she has to doll up herself...

and dance in front of the emperor with her colourful dress.

Her dance is graceful and beautiful.

And the emperor is extremely pleased with it.

You only know about the emperor.

Such a pity.

Yes, it's a pity.

Li Bai has been hoping to participate in the government affairs.

He hopes that one day,

he'll be able to write a policy for the Great Tang.

He is 43 now.

But he can only create this kind of entertaining poem for the harem.

If he becomes an officials,

how are we going to explain...

the humiliation we feel?

I'm better than him.

He is very flamboyant while I'm down to the earth.

The sky is above me and the land is below me.

Why am I born in this world?

Is it for me to make a breakthrough?

Is it for me to voice out?

Living a life of mediocrity is a waste.

Within me, lives a man meant for greatness.

-This is my poem. -I can't understand it.

I want to be a prime minister.

Sleuth-hound Captain can protect the people of Chang'an.

But prime minister can protect the people in this world.

God has put me in this time and place for a reason.

I am to take up this duty...

to protect the people of Great Tang with my wisdom.

The Right Counsellor, Lin Jiu Lang...

is a master strategist.

Those who are no under him...

will be eradicated...

by framing them up.

If I wish to take his place and has the power of a minister,

in this life,

I can't make any mistakes at all.

We have to succeed in this...

Peacekeeper Corps' issue today.

I won't do it for you to...

advance in your ranking.

Do it for another day as Sleuth-hound Captain...

and to protect Chang'an for another day.

I don't follow the rules...

when I act.

We'll go outside the box...

when needed.

You still haven't give me the answer I want.

I'll retaliate against those who tricked me.

After I arrest Cao Po Yan,

it'll be payback time for you.

" Shengsheng Gate "

Where are you going to arrest Cao Po Yan?

You are even more arrogant than Li Bi.

My rank is higher too.

I'm crown prince's Right Commandant in the Eastern Palace.

He has asked me to give the Peacekeeper Corps a hand.

My duty is to make sure that you stay out of trouble.

Or else, a merit will become sin in a blink of an eye.

Of course, I do it for the people.

I'm going to interpret watchtower's signals for you.

The light signals are derived from the symbols of Eight Trigrams.

It's very complicated. You can't memorise it in a short time.

The messengers of watchtower have to go through extra trainings...

to interpret the signals at once. Of course, I can do that too.

Yao family is gifted with superb memory.

Unlike Xu Bin who is still training hard to do it.

For example, now,

the interpretation from the watchtower's signals is,

Commander Zhang is out to arrest Wolven Squad! Keep your ears open!

Commander Zhang is out to arrest Wolven Squad! Keep your ears open!

Move aside!

Move aside!

Move aside!

Move aside!

Commander Zhang is out to arrest Wolven Squad! Keep your ears open!

Roger that!

-Commander Zhang! -Rise!

Such honour.

Now, you are the most powerful...

death row convict in Chang'an.

If you think that you can't manage Cao Po Yan,

don't force yourself too much. Safety first.

Put the safety of the people in Chang'an first.

Where are going actually?

I'm going to eat.

It's the imperial edict from the emperor.

From the look of it,

it's an appointment edict.

Have you caught the Wolven Squad?

Fifteen of us had died doing it.

The leader has managed to escape.

Don't worry, teacher.

Today, I've found the perfect man for the job.

We will be able to arrest him for sure.

Peacekeeper Corps against the Wolven Squad.

This is...

the first real mission given to...

the crown prince by the emperor after three years.

You know the reason behind...

His Majesty's action, right?

He wants to test the crown prince's capability.

Everyone in the court knows that...

we are crown prince's trusted aides.

If something goes wrong...

tomorrow,

Lin Jiu Lang is going to press the Censorate to impeach the ability...

of crown prince first thing in the morning.

If we are able to arrest the Wolven Squad,

we can outweigh our errors with merits.

You are too naive.

You...

can just carry on with your own plans.

If someone...

wishes to find troubles with the Peacekeeper Corps today.

I'll take care of it.

Teacher.

The secret that had been going around for one year has come true.

The emperor is going to entrust...

the Right Counsellor, Lin Jiu Lang, with the governing of the country.

He will act on His Majesty's behalf...

while His Majesty leaves Chang'an...

to reside in the Hot Spring Palace of Mount Li.

No wonder He Jian is drunk.

Lin Jiu Lang is against the crown prince.

If this edict comes true,

crown prince's life will be in danger.

-He Jian must be worried about him. -This order won't come true.

Because we are here.

The edict states that this order is to be announced...

at two in the morning tomorrow.

We still have 16 hours until the lantern carnival.

Within 16 hours,

we have to think of a way to make His Majesty take back his edict.

Master.

Do you really trust death row convict?

I believe in my database.

Xu Bin is right.

Numbers are the truth.

Zhang Xiao Jing has specially highlighted the fact that he is...

10 years Right Commander in Gansu and 9 years Sleuth-hound Captain.

He is ruthless, fierce and kills with ease.

He is known as the King of Hell.

Before he went into prison, he had killed 34 people...

including his own leader, the commander of Wannian County.

He is sentenced for decapitation. You transferred him here...

as a backup at first.

Now, he becomes your key player.

How are you going to prevent him from escaping or betraying us?

I can't.

You really mean it when you say you are going to eat.

Waiter,

give me another bowl of lamb soup and two lamb chops.

-Alright. -Get me two persimmons first.

-Wait a moment. -Speed up, alright?

Can you really do it or not? Tell me now if you can't do it.

Don't drag me around, chow-hound.

The authentic persimmons, as sweet as honey. Enjoy your food.

I see that you like to go backwards.

This is a tactic.

When are you going to stop retreating?

I can't work with an empty stomach.

I won't be able to move.

If you resign on your own accord now,

I'll let you eat here for the whole day.

Look at that shop across the street. What is it called?

Roujiayu Cosmetic.

It sells rouge and face powder.

What's wrong with it?

How did a cosmetic shop afford a place...

in the busiest part of Western District?

The cost of cosmetic is low but the selling price is high.

Moreover, the women in Chang'an love to spend money.

Then why are all their customers male?

When you know that you'll be decapitated, you'll be more willing...

to buy things that make you happy.

That shop has double income.

Are you saying that this shop has hidden business?

Chang'an map and hidden death row convicts.

The more convicts there are, the better the sales in Western District.

When you find you who the map is sold to, you'll know...

who is the member of the Wolven Squad in Chang'an.

If it's a business with death row convicts,

the shopkeeper won't dare to speak the truth.

-Destroy his shop. -Sure. Go ahead. I'll wait here.

You'll go.

I'm the Right Commandant of the Eastern Palace.

You don't dare to do it?

Your lamb soup is here.

You have such a good appetite.

Yes. After this bowl,

I think I'll be drinking the soup of death next.

Peacekeeper Corps on duty. You'll be arrested if you resist.

I'm not going to resist.

You are such a high-ranking officer.

Why are you so unreasonable?

I'm just following order to come here and destroy your shop.

So obedient.

Whose order are you under?

Mine.

Commander Zhang.

When did you come out?

We'll talk inside.

Thank you.

Commander Zhang.

Tell your shop owner that...

the authorities are investigating about illegal possession of the map.

-Alright. -Make him send all of you...

to go out and inform those secret shops that have the map.

Just say that...

you heard nothing from us.

Tell him that we had taught you a lesson instead.

-You've managed to get information. -It's useless.

Then what are we doing here?

Go and gather up the sleuth-hounds in the Western District.

Follow anybody that goes out from the back door of Roujiayu Cosmetic.

See which shops he went in.

Note down the shops' name.

The owner of Roujiayu Cosmetic is the leader of the underground business.

I'm telling him that we are investigating about the map.

So, he will inform other shops with the map to hide it carefully for sure.

That man is your spy.

You've never seen him today...

and you don't remember him at all.

I understand.

They are the people who are truly useful to our Great Tang.

Go now.

What about you?

Don't worry. I won't be able to escape.

Even if you are not here, you still have the watchtower, right?

I'll be back as soon as I can.

Is there's anything,

release the smoke grenade.

Don't drag me down.

Give me money for the food.

Excuse me, do you have some mint? Can you give me one?

Gold and Silverware of West has sold three maps within half a year.

They have a tough hatchet man.

Be careful.

Don't go.

Roujiayu Cosmetic will suspect me...

if I didn't deliver their message.

And then, I'll be useless to Chang'an.

It'll be bad.

Be smart.

Wait a while before you go back.

Back then, I was strong, energetic...

and I can go far and wide.

Who is the one who cut out the leaves?

Greetings, Crown Prince.

Why did they think that the setting sun is beautiful?

Because it no longer hurts the eyes.

But it's setting down.

Although it'll rise again tomorrow,

the new sun is still different...

from the old sun.

Li Yu doesn't think that it'll be a new sun.

But everybody thought that...

Lin Jiu Lang is a capable counsellor.

But actually, his shine is just a reflection from the emperor.

As soon as His Majesty retires,

the Right Counsellor will be useless as well.

In order to watch the sunset in Mount Li,

His Majesty wants to reside in Hot Spring Palace with Yan Tai Zhen...

to have fun to their hearts' content.

And the people of Great Tang...

will be shrouded in darkness.

I have invited you to come here...

because I want to reassure you.

Within today,

I have a way to make His Majesty...

take back his edict to entrust Lin Jiu Lang with the governing here.

How can you persuade His Majesty otherwise?

One year ago,

a secret rumour about Right Counsellor becoming the acting ruler...

had spread among the officials in the court.

I was afraid that it's going to come true.

So, in the name of cultivating myself,

I left the court of Chang'an to travel around the world.

But actually, I'm investigating...

about the crimes of Right Counsellor in secret with Tan Qi.

Half a year ago,

the Ministry of Works had torn down many houses in Anye Street by force.

And many residents there had died in vain.

Tan Qi managed to interview one lady who was a resident there.

She is called Ming Ying and she decided to degrade herself...

to become a singer.

After some effort,

finally, she managed to hear a conversation during a secret feast...

between Prince Yong and Lin Jiu Lang.

The Right Counsellor had proposed...

to ease up on the diplomatic relations because the embassy building...

was still in progress and was lectured by His Majesty to finish it at once.

In order to complete it on time, Lin Jiu Lang had asked Prince Yong...

to cooperate with gangs in Chang'an to herd the residents out by force.

After she heard the conversation,

she stole Right Counsellor family's...

Jade Flower Pendant while he was drunk.

We have both witness and evidence.

If we present them to His Majesty during the royal feast,

it'll be hard for him to entrust Right Counsellor...

with the country anymore.

How is it going with the Wolven Squad issue?

I had found a suitable man for it.

He won't fail with the case.

Chang Yuan.

You are the chief of Peacekeeper Corps.

The job today...

-is to arrest the Wolven Squad. -Crown Prince.

I will arrest the Wolven Squad...

and I have to take care of the future of the Great Tang.

I'll take care of the issue myself during the royal feast.

You may leave now.

What can I help you with?

Peacekeeper Corps is on duty.

You are the owner here?

We suspect that you illegally sold the map of Chang'an...

and ganging up with the Wolven Squad. I need to search the place.

We do decent business here.

We did not sell any maps.

And we are not working with the Wolven Squad.

I need to search the place to be sure.

I'm very close to Jing Zhao Yin.

If you want to search the place, you'll have to ask him first.

I don't care who's your backer is today.

-Jing Zhao Yin. -Commander Zhang.

We saw yellow smoke outside. Commandant Yao needs backup.

-You got a message just now? -Jing Zhao Yin.

He brought along some sleuth-hounds to chase after the messenger.

They went into the caravanserai with businessmen from Shule.

They are ill-tempered. I'm afraid that they are in trouble.

How did you know that I'm here?

Message from watchtower.

Yellow smoke means help.

I can gather up the sleuth-hounds here.

Please go to the caravanserai to help them.

Alright. Go and gather up the people. I'll go there myself.

Yes, Commander Zhang.

Jing Zhao Yin.

Who hurt you?

Fool.

I hinted you to report to the authorities.

But you don't understand my hint.

-Let's go to the apothecary house now. -Wolf...

The wolf is still here.

You have worked hard.

We will meet each other again sooner or later.

This is bad. Nothing can go wrong in Huaiyuan Street today.

Quick. We have to inform the Peacekeeper Corps.

It's an underground tunnel from Western District to Huaiyuan Street.

Wolven Squad and Zhang Xiao Jing are at the north of Huaiyuan Street.

They are heading south from the secondary alley.

Chamberlain Xu, you chose the right person.

It's not me. It's the database.

How are we going to catch him in Huaiyuan Street?

Please give us your instruction.

-Model layout of Huaiyuan Street! -Yes, Chief.

-Cui Qi. -I'm here!

Huaiyuan Street has a total of 126 families.

It has 509 residents.

Looks like something is happening there today.

We have alerted the Ministry of Capital.

I'm afraid that there are more than one thousand people there today.

If we hurt or killed someone during the chase with the Wolven Squad,

the Peacekeeper Corps will have to stop this case...

and we will be investigated instead.

What time is it?

Three quarter after noon!

Everything is in stark details.

How much time do we have until the Lantern Festival?

We still have 14 hours left.

Save me!

Save me!

-Lu San. -I'm here.

Send my order to Commander Zhang. Catch that man no matter the cost.

Ask Yao to bring the sleuth-hounds to Huaiyuan Street as backup.

Yes, Chief.

-Cui Qi. -I'm here.

Bring along Dauntless Army to provide backup in Huaiyuan Street.

-Yes, Chief. -All the flowers...

of all trees...

The poems I wrote to seek favours!

The Prayer Hall in Huaiyuan Street is closely related to An Lu Shan.

He is a very important general in the court.

Weapons are forbidden inside. Peacekeeper Corps...

can't afford to offend him.

Don't let He Jian know about it.

Move aside!

" Xiuzheng Street "

Stop playing.

Quick, give me the ball.

No. I don't want to give it to you.

In the palace, where is the golden camp with white felt located in?

The lanneret in the sky is not afraid of strong gust.

Ma Ge Er.

The brothers that you sent had...

You Sha has already told me about it.

When is His Excellency going to strike?

We are still waiting for your Chang'an map...

to determine the time of action.

How did His Excellency find Cui Liu Lang?

When he reaches here, you can ask him yourself.

The money is already on it's way.

From tomorrow onwards,

we will be able to build the paradise that we dreamt of.

Remember His Excellency's words.

His Excellency...

has given us a chance to shine.

Flaming Demon...

is going to descend upon Chang'an.

The charred bones will forge the new path of rebirth.

We...

are...

chosen by the Flaming Demon.

It means that...

the last day of our lives...

will be fulfilled because of our noble sacrifices.

Long live the Alpha.

-Long live the Alpha. -Long live the Alpha.
