I do have alopecia universalis which is an auto-immune disease

that causes your body to attack your hair follicles.

I lost my hair when I was ten.

And then I had to do wigs.

I was so attached to it, and now I have to take it off.

I've not dealt with people seeing me like that.

Like, red is not me at all.

Girl, I'm getting my head shaved.

I'm gonna look like a fire-crotch.

it brings me back to stuff that happened at school.

How mean people were pulling my hair off on the bus

saying that I have cancer, that something's wrong with me.

I just never know, it's a surprise every time.

Like, I always hope that there's hair there,

but sometimes there's not.

I was a little scared this morning

because I've never changed my look,

I think it's going to give you that whole rock star--

just, you know, take you a little bit from Idaho to more of a, like,

will this help you be a democrat?

Liberty: I was really hesitant

when I heard that I'm going to be going red,

but I'm really happy because I need to bring in

a little bit more power and edge

in order to step my game up in this competition.

And I think that this hair definitely did that for me.

Being with these young girls, I gotta get out of being mommy

and get my sexy back.

I feel like I look 20 years younger.

I love the trademark look that Tyra gave me.

Ivana:I know that I'm getting a trim

and it's kind of difficult for me

because I love my hair.

Growing up people would compliment me for having long hair.

So, I'm just, like, trying to compose myself right now.

it took me a lot to wear my natural hair and stuff like that.

And I feel like what we're doing with your hair today

is going to show more of that.

Because it has so much color in it.

I feel like every black girl has had a sew in,

but it's hard for me though, I have psoriasis.

Shanice: Tyra wants me to get a weave.

The only thing that I'm worried about getting a weave

is me having psoriasis.

It's like a dry skin condition,

and my scalp needs to be moisturized all the time.

Do you have to put medicine on this?

Yeah.

- Is this psoriasis right here? - Yeah, it's all three of them.

And then it's, like, all through my hair.

We didn't even know. You have to tell us.

I got psoriasis when I was 24.

It's stressful. You think people are looking at it,

you think people could see it.

I'm picking at it, people think it's gross, like,

it's really-- it's hard.

So, we talked to Tyra,

and she wants us to hold off.

We want to do everything we can to make you look beautiful,

but make you healthy as well.

I know that she's looking out for my health,

but I really want the makeover.

I've done everything for this

and there's just no fixing it.

It's a very, very hard thing.

It comes on more and more with stress

so let's keep you as low stress as possible,

we need to re-think this hairstyle

and so we can start with that.

Just because you have psoriasis, it doesn't mean that it can stop you,

Brendi K: I thought that I would like my buzz cut,

but Drew calling me masculine at panel

just takes me back to a negative mindset in my life.

and you often do look masculine.

Kyla:I'm so excited to work with Director X.

I saw the girls last cycle being able to shoot with him.

I was so jealous.

Well, ladies, I'm looking for models

who can step out of their comfort zone and take direction.

you have a lot of places to play.

And that's my favorite movie and I love the way she moves

and I aspire to be able to move like her.

because of her vulnerabilities growing up.

So, I was almost 100 pounds heavier than I am now,

and I used clothes and hair to fight against the weight.

And I just got tired of it, so I shed the weight.

But I was still holding on to things that to disguise

some of the insecurities that I had.

And we have the Creative Director of "Paper" magazine, Drew Elliot.

So I have vitiligo and so I have spots on my eyes,

on my mouth, on my hands, and I always cover it up,

but today, I show it.

It's for all those peoples that have insecurities,

I've worn mine on my face every day.

I have always preached about accepting who you are.

It is all beautiful.

So now it's time to start evaluating

some performances.

What happened with this trademark style video?

I don't know.

I was just really uncomfortable in my shoes and stuff.

I mean, it's no excuse, but.

Like, I couldn't walk.

They were like-- when he said runway walk, I was like--

like, I was like, can I--

should I run?

They were like-- because I just couldn't, like,

do anything but tiptoe.

Because I wear, like, a size 12, and they gave me, like, a 10.

But I About just like--

I was just like, fine.

Because, like, Law was styling me, so I didn't want to like--

you know, like, I don't know.

Unreasonable or anything.

I wanted to be like, yeah. I'll wear them.

Well, that's something-- with you, I always felt you have--

you never felt comfortable in your own shoes,

in your own body.

Did you feel like that throughout the competition?

Why do you think that?

Because I think you're a beautiful girl,

and I think you don't know just how beautiful you are.

And when you actually move and do, like, beautiful gestures,

and we get those poses, it's really beautiful.

And I think that you need to have every bit of confidence,

because I think you are a fantastic, wonderful model.

I don't know.

I felt like I was, like, in a movie the whole time.

You know?

It did feel real.

And living with all the girls, I don't know.

I just came from, like--

I was in a master's program, and I'm used to being around,

like, older people, I think.

So it was just like--

I don't know.

It was like a lot of like-- like, like, if somebody,

like, if I hear someone's talking about me,

I'm not going to go, like, go confront them about it.

I just like-- kind of just learned to, like,

let things go.

And I think, like, in this environment,

it's like people want you to like,

kind of go at it or something.

Like, and that's just not me.

I'm just like, OK.

You're just chill.

Um, I don't think I'm chill.

I have a lot of energy.

But I'm more like, my ending can be, like, more, like, silly.

Not like-- I'm not confrontational at all.

No, no I would never peg you as confrontational.

Yeah.

You're-- and also you're an intellectual, I would say.

Yeah.

So I'm more like that.

So it was just like a transition.

Like, a little culture shock, moving from that environment

to here really quickly.

So.

So what was it like standing in front

of Tyra and the judges?

For the first time, I just tried to walk

in with a lot of energy.

So I wasn't even like--

so I like, tried to talk before I could see you guys,

really, so I could already just like--

already be, like, in that mood and just, like,

keep that going.

Do you wish that you had opened up a little bit more

in the house and on panel and at the shoots?

Like, opened up how?

I feel like you came in really strong.

Like, our first day, when we met you, I was like, oh, that.

She's-- she's spectacular.

And then I think that once it was--

we were in the race, things started getting

a little bit scary for you.

I think-- let's see.

I think it was different when I'm,

like, in front of all the girls, and then

still trying to be myself.

Because I do have a really good personality,

but it's different, I guess, when I'm around people.

Like, I don't know.

Like, Growing up, I had problems with girls,

like, being like, really, like, jealous of me.

Or they would be intimidated by me and things like that.

So I learned to kind of like--

Why were they're jealous of you?

I don't know.

I developed curves quicker and stuff like that.

So I don't know.

So I just kind of learned to not show off, I guess.

You know?

Especially around, like, other females or people who

might view me as competition.

Like-- but I'm fine, like, showing it off to,

like, an authority figure.

But like, around competition, I'm like,

kind of try to go in and be, like, more slick with it,

you know?

Because I'm like, at the end of the day, how close of friends

are you going to be with somebody who wants you gone?

[laughs]

So like, at the end of the day,

everybody was happy when another person left.

Like--

Who is the toughest judge?

You.

Me?

You don't even have to say anything.

You just look like--

Well, Law can be tough too.

Like, I thought he was, like, really nice, but like,

he's like, he can get tough.
