I delayed justice
for a young Indigenous woman

Now, I'm not saying it's been easy,

but I do understand why Alex
made the decisions she made

out of frustration and anger

at our nation's apathy
for Aboriginal deaths in custody.

She held me to account.

And that is rare in politics.

But it's independent candidates,

like Alex
and my fellow panellists tonight,

who are in the position to do that

because they are fighting
on behalf of their electorate,

not their own careers,

and they can talk truth to power.
