And today, I want to

and I could not have

So, today, I have some
really exciting news for you.

I have been chosen for the 21-day
challenge of Naked and Afraid.

And this is completely,
like, super crazy for me,

because it cannot get more
extreme than that, right?

I am going to be surviving
naked in the wilderness

in the American Southwest.

And it's completely different
to my country, here in Austria.

We will see if I am able
to adapt my survival skills

in a new environment.

Well, so this it. And I'll
see you guys in 21 days.

This is my first time in
the American Southwest.

And it looks so
different than Austria.

This place looks really barren.

All I see here is
grass, grass, and grass.

I don't see any water sources.

My biggest hope is that
my partner is from this region

because this type of
environment is really new to me.

So I really want to know
what my partner thinks of this.

[Sam] This is nothing like home.

I'm a total fish out of water.

It's so exciting to be here.

I wanted this for so, for so
long to be on Naked and Afraid.

And here I am. The first
Englishman to be on this show.

And I'm here in the
wild west in America.

I've never seen the
horizon so far away.

It's an unbelievable feeling.

But my goodness, I don't
mind admitting that I feel

very intimidated.

I can only hope that my partner has
experience in environment like this.

This is no, no place
for an Englishman.

[narrator] Sam and Lilly, two survivalists
with extreme experience in Europe

will attempt to become
the first foreigners to survive

twenty one days
in the United States.

Their challenge will take place in
the Sabinoso region of New Mexico,

a remote and untamed high
desert in the American Southwest.

At an elevation of over 5000-feet,
the region is known for its extremes.

Day time temps can
soar in to the 90s.

But plunge into
the low 50s at night.

Here we are. It's show time.

Oh my goodness.

There's not even a
bush to hide behind.

[Sam] I've always enjoyed survival
shows and being in the outdoors

since I was a little
boy to be honest.

I've been a fan of Naked
of Afraid since its inception.

I've seen every single episode.

Watched most of
them several times.

Some of them dozens of times.

[Sam] So this is everything,
I've ever wanted to do.

And I'm just so
grateful to be here.

There's only one
question left to ask.

Does my blur look big in this?

Let's roll.

[groaning in pain]

I'll be back.

[Lilly] I'm a survival enthusiast
and about ten years ago,

I started my survival
channel on YouTube.

Recently, I hit one
million subscribers.

So I've trained for this
challenge my entire life.

[Lilly] But Naked and Afraid
is definitely the most extreme

survival challenge in the world.

I can't believe I'm
doing this naked.

[grunts] It's really really
hard on the feet, this terrain.

I'm just gonna have
to keep toughen it out.

And eventually, I'll just
get used to it, I suppose.

Man, this sun is really intense.

I don't know. It's going
to get really hot today.

I'm really looking forward
to meeting my partner now.

I hope that he's
kind and respectful,

and that we make a
great team together.

[Sam] Hello.

We finally meet.

I'm Sam.

Hey, nice to meet you.

[Sam] Nice to meet you too.

[Lilly] I'm Lilly.

I think I know you actually.

I think I'm one of your

Yes.

I've just met my
partner. I'm really excited.

I was so worried
who it was gonna be

and it turns out
that it's survival Lilly.

I've watched many
many of her videos.

In fact, I think a good majority of
the likes she gets on her videos

probably come
from here. [laughs]

Ah, you have a
British accent, right?

- Yeah, I'm from England.
- Awesome.

- And you're Austrian.
- Yeah.

- Uh, wunderbar, expacen...
- Wunderbar.

Great. [Lilly laughing]

When I was a little girl, I
loved playing in the woods.

[Lilly] And this where I learnt
most of my survival skills.

I'm self-taught, and mother
nature was my teacher.

She is unforgiving.

At the beginning it was just a
pure hobby. I didn't get paid for it.

And now I can even
provide for my family.

Some of my friends call me
the Austrian Chuck Norris,

because I like to go through
really tough situations.

[narrator] Creating survival
content is Lilly's full-time job.

But her skills in the American
Southwest are untested.

She begins with a primitive
survival rating or PSR of 7.1.

So two Europeans in the
wilderness of New Mexico.

- That's crazy.
- It's the most insane thing I could even imagine.

- It's a...
- It's a strange environment.

I've never seen
something like this.

It might as well be an
alien planet to me, Lilly.

I've been into survival. I
was a boy scout, army cadet.

I'm also a veteran. I
was in the British army

for some years.

At my day job, I'm a mental
health support worker.

I know that humans, all of us
are capable of going through

far more than we can imagine.

And that's what
I'm here to prove.

I want to know what
that feeling of elation is

when you cross the finish line.

I must get to the
end of this challenge.

[narrator] Sam's military
background is a major strength.

But he lacks experience
at higher elevations.

His PSR is set at 6.2.

I'm really hot, maybe we
should go and get our bags.

- Anything to cover up just a little bit...
- Yeah.

...sounds fantastic
right now, Lilly.

[Lilly] Let's go. Come on.

[narrator] Sam and Lilly are each
allowed one survival item from home

and are provided with
a pot, and a fire starter.

So I got my custom
survival knife.

[Lilly] My God, it's huge.

It's robust and it
should hold an edge

- all the way to the end of the challenge.
- Oh, wow.

Got my dog tags
from 20-years ago.

[Lilly] Okay.

[Lilly] I like the fact
that he is ex-military

and English guys
are known to be tough.

So I'm really looking forward
to have him in my team.

This is recurve bow, that
I've shot over 12 years now.

So, I'm really accurate,

- and hopefully was can see some game...
- [Sam sighs]

- ...that we can shoot.
- [Sam] Absolutely gorgeous, Lilly.

[Lilly] Now, let's check
out the map. We're here.

Here?

[Lilly] This looks like a
canyon or something.

[Sam] Well, you know,
I don't know much,

but it looks like water would
probably collect down there.

Mm-hmm. May be we should
go and check out of this area

- because I'm really thirsty.
- I'm starting to feel it too, to be honest.

- Shall we head off?
- Yes, okay. Let's go.

[Sam] Yes, ma'am.

[narrator] As they head
north into the canyons,

Lilly and Sam will be
competing for territory and food

with bobcats, mountain
lions, and bears.

But it's the western
diamond back rattlesnake

that presents the most danger.

This cold-blooded killer pumps
hemotoxic venom into its prey

which attacks the blood
and circulatory system.

Responsible for more bites than
any other snake in the Southwest.

It causes the deaths of over ten
people per year in the Unites States.

[Lilly] I really do hope
that we find some water.

- [Sam] Yeah, it's, uh...
- [Lilly] It's unbearable.

[Sam] It is.

I can already feel my
saliva turning into foam.

[Lilly] Hey, hold on a second.

- We're descending.
- We know water runs downhill.

Yeah, let's go and
find some water.

[Sam] Oh wow, look at that.

[Lilly] Awesome.

If there's actual life down there,
we might have a chance Lilly.

Yeah.

We come to this most
beautiful breathtaking canyon

and we stand on top of a rock

and look out over
the expanse of it.

And in the middle
of this grass ocean,

it's just this oasis of
life of water and hope.

[Sam] Do you think
we should be out?

- We might be able to come and use these rocks...
- [Lilly breathing deep]

...to kinda like giants steps

- to make our way down.
- [Lilly] Mm. Definitely, yeah.

[rattlesnake rattles]

[Lilly] Hey, I heard a rattle.

What is this?

[Sam] I think we both
know what it might be.

Quite an ominous sound. Because it
can only be the sound of a rattlesnake,

one of the deadliest
creatures in North America.

Do you want me to
go first? You okay?

[Lilly sighs] You can go first.

- [Sam] Roger that.
- [Lilly] I'm [bleep] in my pants.

- [Sam] You'll be okay. Well...
- [Lilly] Uh.

- I don't have pants.
- I was gonna say it.

[Sam] Oh [bleep].

Look at the size
of that [bleep].

It's a [bleep] beast.

[Lilly] Oh, my God.

I'm, like, freaking out, because
I'm really afraid of snakes.

[Sam] Let's just go
very slow and careful.

I've heard that they can feel
vibrations through the ground.

That's a lot of food.

We need a Y stick.

- That one there looks like a Y to me.
- [Lilly] Yeah, take it down.

We're not gonna pass
up an opportunity for a win

and for food, and especially
when it's that much food,

that'll keep us going
for the first three days.

This thing is well
over a meter long.

That things can strike,
definitely, its own distance.

Oh [bleep], it's
coiled. It's coiled.

Get back, get back.
Lilly, stay back.

[rattlesnake hisses]

[Sam] That's beautiful.

That thing is opening its mouth

and it looks the size of my hand

and it's got fangs
as long as my fingers.

I think, I'm going to
walk behind the snake

and pin it from the back side.
I'm protected by the stone.

And once it's
safe, it's your turn.

You put unlimited
force down on its neck

- like it's [bleep] fine if you need to.
- Yeah.

- We got this, Lilly.
- Yeah.

- Let's go.
- Slow and steady. It's gonna feel

your vibration
through the rocks.

So just go, roll your
feet slow and steady.

- I'll try and keep its attention.
- [rattlesnake rattles]

So, I'm thinking you
wanna come kind of down

at a 45 degree angle.

Lilly, you got this.
Maximum force.

Go for it.

Go, go, go.

Right. Then strike
this to clinch and let go.

I'll try to get
him to... [grunts]

[rattlesnake hisses]

Right Lilly, I think you've nearly
got him. Get that head right down.

- Maximum force.
- [Lilly grunts]

- Everything you got. everything you got.
- Kill it.

- Kill it.
- Everything you got.

[Sam] Come on [bleep]. [grunts]

Kill it.

[both screaming]

[Sam] Right Lilly, I think you've
nearly got him. Get that head right down.

- Maximum force.

[Sam sighs and pants]

The blade goes through
it like it's made of butter

and the head is off, and all
of a sudden the adrenaline

is just pumping
through our bodies.

You're hero, Lilly.
You're a hero.

- [Lilly exhales]
- You were so brave.

Give me a fist bump.

- Oh!
- Yeah.

[Lilly] I can't
believe it. We did it.

Oh, my God.

We make a kill together
and I think that's really good

for our team spirit.

- You ready?
- Okay.

I think now we
are real warriors.

Our first kill together.

First of many.

I'm grateful for Lilly for
her courage in that moment,

because she kept me
alive and I kept her alive

in a very deadly situation.

[Lilly] Tonight
we're going to eat.

[Sam] Yeah, that's for sure.

- [Sam] Oh wow, look.
- [Lilly exhales]

- Uh, oh, thank goodness.
- Oh, my God, this is great.

Finally, we arrive at
the bottom of the canyon,

dinner in hand and
we see the water.

[Lilly speaking]

We should find something, which
is maybe at a higher elevation,

but not too far
away from the water.

One hundred percent agree.

Finally, we discover water down
the canyon. But it is a flooding area

and we are searching for
higher grounds to make a camp.

I think this is great because we
have some shrubs at the back side.

This is where the
wind is coming from.

And maybe we can
use this tree here

to make some sort of emergency
lead into shelter for tonight.

- I think we should probably deal...
- Um...

...with the... See
more of the snake.

I think you have
peel off the skin now

because otherwise it's
not minute cooling around,

it's going to be
really hard to get it off.

- Oh, I didn't know that.
- Yes.

Let's skin it quickly.

Being from United Kingdom,
I've never cleaned a snake before.

[Sam] I mean, there's
only three, in England.

So, it was all kinda
new thing to me.

There he goes.

Come on.

Let's do it.

[grunts] It's a lot easier
when you see it on the...

On this... Here
we go, here we go.

- Come on, big sucker.
- [Sam grunts]

That's a nasty, fat bugger.

You wanna go and then we'll go.

[Sam screams]

As I get to some bowels,

it decides to detonate
utterly in my direction.

- [Lilly] Oh. [laughs]
- [Sam] Oh, dude.

- Oh, my God.
- [bleep] Ah.

I had snake excreta, in
my eyes, all over my chest,

on my face, and
dripping down my body.

[Sam] I think
it's got in my eye.

- [Lilly] No.
- [Sam] Yeah, just a little bit.

Dang.

It's alright, I've got a spare.

- [Sam] I got to wash the, uh...
- [Lilly] Yeah.

- [Sam] the snake [bleep] of my bits and bobs.
- [Lilly] Definitely.

It has pooped on him, so...

[chuckles] It's really, like, you can't
imagine that this is really happening.

So, I can't believe it.

[Sam] Extremely funny.

[Lilly] Let's cut down this tree

because this is where
the fire is going to be.

I've some seem logs over
there which are perfect and yeah,

we just have to
build a roof like this.

So we block out the wind.

On it.

[Lilly] I want to
build a shelter,

and use some boughs
of pine and juniper

to make it somewhat windproof.

[groans]

I'm getting really dehydrated.

So, right now, I'm collecting
some dried grasses,

for building the fire,
it's really important.

Is that high enough
for you, Lilly?

[Lilly exhaling] Yeah.

- [Sam] We need to get that water.
- Yeah.

[grunts] That water
cranking quick sharp, Lilly.

[Lilly] Okay. I will try
to make the fire now.

[scratching]

[Sam] Oh, Lilly! Look at you go.

What a savage! Look at that!

[blowing air]

[Lilly breathless] Oh,
my God! Thank God.

[Sam chuckles]

[sighs wearily] I'm so relieved.

[Sam] Let's get some
water and get hydrated.

[Lilly] The air's
already getting colder.

- [Sam] Yeah.
- I can feel it.

I actually think it
might actually be

a little bit warmer than you
think this evening, to be honest.

[Lilly] Mmm.

For you, maybe
yes, but not for me.

[Sam] Uh...

I'm a sissy. [chuckles]

You're not.

I saw you, like, sleep out
in the middle of the woods.

Yeah, but it was with clothing,

and naked, it's
entirely different.

I only have, like, one hour left

and then, it's
getting really cold.

[grunts]

My biggest fear is
getting hypothermia.

So, we have to build
a really nice bed,

- using these juniper twigs here.
- [exhales]

[softly] This is perfect.

[Sam] We need to get
our snake cranking soon.

- [Lilly] Yeah.
- Uh...

- [Lilly] Do you want to do that?
- Uh...

Yeah, I'm pretty sure we
just coil it up on a stick.

- [Lilly] Yeah.
- Uh, and then... [Lilly] Perfect.

[suspenseful music playing]

[Sam grunts] I've
never had snake before,

but there you go.

One of the most
deadliest predators

in the, uh, the United States,

and we're gonna
eat him for our tea.

[serene instrumental
music playing]

[groans] Oh,
western diamondback.

- Alfresco!
- [Lilly chuckles]

[Sam] Is this a
"ladies first" situation,

or is this, shall I be
the guinea pig here?

I think it's now
gentlemen first.

[Sam chuckling] Oh, okay.

- [fire crackles]
- Never had snake before.

[exclaims] Oh!

It's really good.

- [Lilly] Yeah?
- That's chicken.

- Chicken?
- [Sam] It's got lots of ribs, but it's chicken.

Mmm-hmm.

[Sam] Very chewy chicken.

I think when that golden
brown colors come in,

I think we need to note that.

- [Lilly] Mmm-hmm.
- I think that's about the cusp of...

- Our first snake.

[exhales] Not bad
for two Europeans

in the American wilderness, huh?

[Lilly chuckles] Pretty good.

[Sam] You okay?

[Lilly] I'm cramping
up a little bit.

[Sam] Get some water in.

Get some... Go on,
get some fluids onboard.

[Lilly] Hmm.

[clanking]

[Lilly] It's okay.
I'm just cramping.

I mean, it's like...
I don't know.

[Lilly coughing]

[Lilly speaking]

I think my body
wants to throw up.

[Lilly speaking]

[Lilly retching]

[Sam] You're okay.

[Lilly] I can't believe I'm
throwing up the first night.

[Sam] But, it's standard.

Standard procedure.

[Lilly voice shaking] Yeah.

[coughing]

[Sam speaking]

That was our first night,
and it was, like, okay,

- temperature wise...
- [Sam chuckles]

...because we had
a good fire going.

Survival Lilly.

- [coughing]
- [Sam] Survival Lilly.

[exclaims excitedly] Oh-ho-ho!

[whispering] Okay, so...

we're gonna keep
quiet from this point on.

We think we might have
just seen some movement

from a small ground bird.

[suspenseful music playing]

[whispering] Lilly's just very
quietly preparing her bow.

And we're gonna
just have a very slow,

quiet patrol forward.

See what we can find.

[birds chirping]

Let's just, uh, get ourselves
into this cover here,

and just have a little listen.

[continues
whispering] Lilly, fresh!

It might have been one of
those giant bunny rabbits.

[Sam whispering
hoarsely] Seen! Seen!

Lilly, wow!

Okay, okay.

[Sam breathing heavily]

[Lilly softly]

[Sam whispering] But, Lilly,
we know they're here now.

[Lilly whispering] Okay, I think
we should head home now.

This is a great hunting place.

We will come back to it.

[Sam whispering] Roger,
we've witnessed jackrabbit,

which is definitely,

definitely on our
number one hit list.

[in normal voice] Before
this adventure's over,

he's gonna be in our bellies.

[smacking lips and chuckles]

[dramatic music playing]

I'm tryin' to
acclimatize my body

to the heat of the day.

The UV index right now,
my goodness, it's incredible.

Even where the
sun is cuttin' through

the little gaps in the roof,
it's actually cookin' me.

So, it's like, but like,

tiger stripes sunburn.

I'm feelin' a bit
helpless right now,

but I'm gonna be much
more useless to Lilly

if, uh, she's having
to drag me around

'cause I've keeled
over with heatstroke.

I'm already feelin' the,
uh, the heat wobbles.

- Should we start to... try and get some water.
- [Lilly] Let's go.

- Yeah, let's go and get some water.
- [Sam breathes heavily]

[thrilling instrumental
music playing]

[Sam sighs in relief]
Oh! That feels glorious.

[exclaims] Oh!

[chuckles]

You feel, like, my
blood coolin' down

and then traveling up my legs.

Lilly, we've got
some supper there.

- Is that a crawdad claw?
- [Lilly] Yeah.

Crawdad's, uh, in
here where the grass is.

[Sam] We'd need at
least, like, 20 each, I guess.

For one meal, yeah.

- [Sam] For one meal!
- [chuckling] Yeah.

That being said,
I've watched videos

- where folks have dropped a pyramid shaped trap.
- Mmm-hmm.

And the next
morning it's literally...

- [Lilly] Full.
- ...burstin'.

We can fish in, like,
different kinds of, uh, traps,

and then see which
one works best.

Yeah, yeah.

So, that stone's,
like, wet an inch up.

[Lilly] Yeah.

There's no tide in here.

Maybe it's the water
seeping down into the ground.

So, everyday we have less water.

Do you think it's worth us
monitoring the water level

just to keep an eye
on how low it's goin'?

Yeah.

[scraping]

All right, we'll see
where we go from there.

[somber instrumental
music playing]

[Sam] That's [blows] six-inches.

In fact, all these rocks
were underwater last night.

I'm a little concerned that

all the water is
dryin' up very fast.

[thrilling instrumental
music playing]

[fire crackling]

I'm not gonna lie, Lilly. I
find it very hard to even

find a little spot
in that water hole,

to press the pot down
deep enough for it to fill in.

What do you wanna do, Lilly?

How... How many days do
we have left with this water?

Um... I think we've
probably got 72 hours left,

but I think, as it becomes
more concentrated,

it's gonna get very
unpleasant to palette.

And there could
be things in it that

we just can't boil out.

If we stay here
much longer, like,

we're just gonna die of
[chuckling] dehydration.

We might have to move.

[Sam] There's
probably no, no water.

[Lilly] Oh, my God.

[Sam] We might have to move.

How would you feel if I
went to scout a location?

We want to do it now
in the heat of the sun?

By blocking shade,
hot around there.

And if you wanna help
you just really mud up.

- Really...
- Yeah, let's go to the creek and... and mud you up.

[Sam] On day three, we marked
the water level of our sour...

Of our water source,

and we've noticed that
it's gone down significantly.

And if our source
dries up totally,

we won't make it to the
end of this challenge.

I just wanna make sure
I'm totally, absolutely,

as sun-proof as I can
possibly make myself.

[Lilly] Okay, see you later.

[Sam] See you later, Lilly.

I'm just gonna have a little
look up at the canyon wall,

and I'm lookin' for somethin'
that you might call, like,

a... a saddle.
Basically like a crack,

that looks like a place where
water might accumulate,

and drizzle down.

I'm just kinda darting
from shade to shade.

I can already feel
my mouth dryin' out,

and my thoughts
startin' to... startin' to fog.

So, I need to push
hard and fast now.

[dramatic music playing]

[Lilly] Sam, is going for scout,

if he can find something
better than this.

While he's gone, I'm
going to be making

a crayfish trap.

We need some kind of
filling material for the trap.

And sometimes, it works
if you carve off the bark.

[scraping]

With a trap, we don't
need to actively hunt.

The trap is going to
passively provide us with food.

[somber instrumental
music playing]

[Sam] I'm seein' a
lot more shaded area,

I'm seein' a lot more flora,

I'm seein' a lot more growth.

Uh, this place seems...

[sighs] daresay...

ten times more verdant
than where we've been.

[sighs in relief] Oh! Oh,
that feels so good under foot.

Hey, what's goin' on here?

What is this?

[exclaims excitedly] It's water!

- Oh, my God, it's flowin'.
- [cheerful music playing]

To find water
like this, this fresh,

and literally just
comin' out of the ground,

might be the thing
that takes us to day 21.

[sucking and gulping water]

[chuckling]

[sighs in relief] Oh, God!

We needed this, we
needed this immediately.

I'm gonna get covered,
so I don't get burned.

And then, uh, it's
time to make, uh,

hotfoot it back to Lilly.

But I think she'll be as
excited as I am about this,

the prospect of water.

[breathing heavily] Let's go.

[taking deep breaths]

[birds chirping]

[Sam breathes heavily]

[Lilly] Hey, buddy, how are you?

[Sam breathing
heavily] I'm all good.

I've been on a little bit
of an adventure though.

About a kilometer that way,

there is a beautiful,
fresh runnin' seep.

- [Lilly] Ah!
- The area looks verdant.

It looks like there's

a reasonable amount
of firewood as well.

When you're ready,

we'll go on a, a
little... migration.

[Lilly] Tomorrow, we go.

[Sam] Yes, ma'am.

I'm sad that we're leaving
this place because...

we were just about
to make this our home.

But if the water is running out,

we have to leave anyway.

I think I'm done with the trap.

Now let's see if
the cone fits inside.

[Sam speaking]

- [Lilly] Yeah.
- [Sam] Nice.

I think that's a tight seal.

[Sam] Okay, straight down?

[Lilly] Yeah, don't touch me.

- [Sam chuckling] I get that a lot.
- [Lilly exclaims] Oh!

[Lilly grunts]

[Sam] You really wanna just...

- [Lilly] All right.
- [Sam] Okay.

[Lilly] It's baited.

- [Sam] Okay.
- Put it underneath the stone where you are standing.

- [Sam] Oh, underneath it?
- Yeah.

[Sam] Okay.

[Lilly] Now we need
a little bit of foliage

and cover everything up.

We want to create
some kind of shady place,

and this is where
they like to hang out.

- [Sam] Where they think they're safe.
- Yeah.

[Lilly] Safe against predators.

- [Sam] Just like that, yeah?
- [Lilly] Yeah, perfect.

[dramatic music playing]

[insects trilling]

The end of day four.

We've got another big
day tomorrow, day five.

Uh, 'cause we're headin' out

for a beautiful,
fresh, cold seep.

We're gonna be optimistic,

and we'll see what
we get tomorrow.

from the environment.

If and when it does rain,

and keep Lilly and myself dry,

even in quite a
torrential downpour,

and to get her back in the game.

But given our levels
of depletion already,

from now on, we
need to start operating

a little bit more efficiently.

So I've got an idea for a project
to help me collect firewood.

I'm making this carrying device,

which I think will help me with
the firewood situation significantly.

So these will be the
handles for the carrier.

And then string this the
straw between the two.

And then these
notches are where the...

The cordage will tie.

Working smart, not hard.

Oh, well, let... Let's
see if it works first.

Otherwise, I've
wasted half a day.

I need to do eight strands to
make two meters of cordage.

So it'll be super strong so it
can hold lots of weight in it.

[exhales] All right,
so this is my uh,

my firewood carrier
bag, I guess, or...

so I can lay... I could
lay the firewood across it

and carry a huge bundle

much more so than I'd ever be able
to carry as an individual in my arms.

I could stack wood
as high as I like,

pick up both sides,

and hold tons and
tons of firewood.

It's just a very
simple mechanism.

But given our levels
of depletion already,

it's gonna be most efficient
and calorie-saving for me.

At least I've done something
that a survivalist would make.

And it'll make me feel proud,

and, uh, like I'm achieving
something out here

like a real survivalist.

[Lilly] Now that Sam
has promised me to stay,

I realize that we're a team
and it's better if we stay together.

And today, I'm trying to
stay positive, think positive

and I'm in great hopes that
we will get some food soon.

Our crayfish trap has not been
as efficient as in the first days.

So, in a sense, going to walk to
find some different kinds of spots.

I want to check out this pond.

It's one that I have
never seen before.

Dude, there's a huge crayfish.

That's the biggest one, yet.

Let's see if I can
get it like this.

I don't want to stick my
hands underneath the rocks

because I don't know how
hard they can pinch my fingers.

So, rather I use the
stick method to be sure.

Damn it.

might be termed as a second wind.

So today and tomorrow,

and the next day
all the way through,

we just wanna go for a big win.

[Lilly] So we're two weeks
in, and in the last seven days,

we need some more protein,
otherwise we can't keep going.

[Sam] Good luck, Lilly.

That looks aggressive enough
to break someone's neck to me.

You set the trap now, okay?

Yesterday, a ground
squirrel approached our camp.

So today, I'm going to set
up a Vietnamese snap trap.

So I'm going to set
this trap on a game trail

in between the trees here.

With a Vietnamese snap trap,

you can catch all
kind of smaller critters

like squirrels or
mink, rats, rabbits,

everything which is not
much bigger than this.

Okay.

Trigger is almost done.

Now when you're setting this
trap, you have to make sure

that you're not breaking
your own fingers

because it's really powerful

and very tricky to set up.

This trap uses the tension
of a long, flexible stick

weighted down in
the middle by rocks.

And then elevated on both ends

with a trigger mechanism
on the shorter end.

So the smaller stick is
pressed to the upright stick

by this stick that
is coming down,

so the pressure
is going this way.

So if there's an animal
coming through here,

it will touch the
small stick here,

does this, and then
it breaks its neck.

This is actually one of
the most humane traps.

It's a quick and sudden death.

Next animal that comes
through here is dead.

[Sam] Feels like a 1,000
miles now, doesn't it?

[Lilly] Yeah.

[Lilly] Do you have
the knife with you?

[Sam] Yes.

[Sam] Is it triggered?

[Lilly] No.

Apparently, there was
no animal coming through.

[Lilly] We get to the
trap, it's not triggered.

That's unfortunate, but this is
how it is when it comes to trapping.

If there's an animal
coming, it should work.

But if there's no animal, then
there's nothing you can do.

[Sam] That would've been a
nice little morsel in our bellies.

The clock's ticking down.

The war clock is
approaching zero.

What are you
hunting tonight, Lilly?

[Lilly] I'll try to
go for rabbits.

Ooh, she's hunting
rascally rabbits.

Ooh!

[Sam] Fur, oh! Can you
imagine that if we get a rabbit?

[Lilly] Mm.

we haven't eaten a lot lately.

And we need as much
energy as possible

so that we have enough
of power to make extraction.

It's really urgent that we
get some type of protein.

So my plan tonight is to
walk back to the prairie lands

that I walked into at the
beginning of this challenge.

And I hope I can find
some cottontail rabbits

or Czech rabbits or
some smaller game.

'Cause around here, there's
not a lot that I can hunt.

I hope that it works out because
we desperately need some food.

[whispering] I think I see one.

It's huge.

Last night, we stayed
very close to the fire

and we've been
peppered by hot coals.

[groaning in pain]

with buckshot when I get home.

Thankfully, this brave

Obviously we need
everything extra-large.

to come down the wash,

and then follow it

It actually looks like

the signs of

That could mean rescue.

lows when I was weak,

well together as a team.

That's the best thing about it.

challenge, I did doubt myself

as to whether I could
complete this challenge.

But, to be honest, I feel
really proud of myself.

I did my best to

extreme survivalist.
