[Ben] I know it looks easy now,

but trust me, this didn't happen overnight.

- [Ben groans] - [Max] Yum.

- Add more banana peppers. - [Ben] All right.

- [Max] Oh. - [bottle squelching]

- [groans] - Ooh, it's-- it's farting.

Yum! [chuckles] Are you excited to eat this?

- [groans] - [Max] The smell.

It looks so good. [scoffs]

Come on. Hurry up.

- [Ben] Yeah, one second. - [Max] One. Come on.

- Drink up, buttercup. [chuckles] - [slurps]

[swallows]

[Ben] There were so many times I wanted to give up.

[groans]

So many times when the frustration overwhelmed me.

Cross that off the list.

[Ben] I'd love to tell you how I knew, deep down,

The truth is, at first everything felt so impossible.

and let go of the worry.

[Elizabeth inhales deeply] I get it. I was 12 once.

[clicks tongue, sighs]

This song always gets me.

"All the things I thought I'd figured out I have to learn again."

I guess it means no matter what happens, we have to keep learning.

Keep going.

Even if it doesn't feel like we can.

And forgiveness.

- [chattering] - [school bell rings]

[bullies laughing]

[sighs]

[Ben] Can't believe you gave him those.

First of all, I didn't give him anything.

I loaned them for, like, a week.

Darren's daughter?

Sure, but I haven't seen her in forever since she went away to school.

Yeah. She's at some boarding school back east.

Well, what if she wasn't? What if she was still here?

[school bell rings]

[students chattering]

You think I want to leave you here? I'm sorry, but I have to go.

[sighs]

Well, where am I supposed to go?

[breathing deeply] Okay.

[breathing heavily]

I could use a little help right now.

- How do you know my daughter? - [stammers] I don't.

[stammers]

I met her here the other day.

- [stammers] Nothing. - Look, i-is she okay?

- [sighs] I guess. - You guess? Come on, kid.

Listen, she is or she isn't.

Well, s-she seemed a bit, I don't know, preoccupied.

[sighs] I don't know. Some-- Some kind of storm.

What, uh-- What did she say about it? About the storm?

I don't know. Ask her yourself.

I can't ask her myself. I haven't seen my daughter in two years.

[breathing shakily]

Wait. She's not away at school, is she?

- [exhales deeply] - [Ben as Owen] Then where is she?

- [Darren inhales shakily] - Why can't you see her?

[Darren breathes deeply]

[Darren] Couple of years ago, we had this, uh, storm.

Knocked out the electricity across the state.

But you know what the thing is, kid? I'd never seen a storm like that before.

[tires screeching]

Carter!

[Darren] And my daughter, she-- [stammers]

I cannot tell you what she did.

All I know is, one second that storm was heading one way...

and the next it was gone.

Like she s-- stopped it.

[scoffs] Like she stopped a storm.

But I soon learned that she was also in danger.

And the only way I could protect her was if I let her go.

Have you seen that before? That symbol?

What does it mean?

I don't know.

But you know how it makes me feel?

Well, it's not every day I get to see someone reinvent themselves

right in front of me.

So, how'd you get back?

I don't know. It's like as soon as I saw what I could do, it just--

Max, when I say "one second," I don't actually need you to count, okay?

I'll get it, just--

[straining, grunts]

[sighs]

Eventually it should be easy to, you know-- Like that.

It's not like there's an instruction manual.

Just a thought, maybe you, you know, shouldn't get so frustrated

when it doesn't happen.

I'm not frustrated.

- I can try and scare you again. - I'm good.

[Ben] The thing is, I was frustrated.

It was hard.

But now, not as much.

These days, instead of getting frustrated, I think back to that song

and how the things I thought I had figured out,

I've had to learn them all again.

Maybe we all do.

We have to keep learning. Growing.
