Here in the UK,
we do love a period property.

I never dreamt
that I would own a castle.

For me, it looks like
a typical doll's house.

From countryside houses...

It was everything that you could
dream of. It was a palace.

..to timeless terraces.

I turned up and I thought,
"Whoa...this is pretty cute."

But beneath the grand facades...

Hopefully the house won't fall down.
We'll see, will we?

..these historical homes
are falling to bits.

Everyone told us to tear
this building down.

All over the country,

an army of renovators are snapping
them up at knock-down prices...

I think we should leave it like
this. It looks old timely.

..then facing challenges
of epic proportions.

I said all along to get a new-build.

This series, we meet the brave
new renovators...

We were looking for
a bungalow with a shed.

..and return to our familiar band
of determined dreamers...

Who else has got
a chapel in their house?

..all risking everything...

But I thought I had a good idea
what was needed...

..I was quite wrong.

People think renovation's
lovely, don't they?

Oh, God. I'm trembling.

..to create the forever home
of their dreams...

Oh, my God! It's so nice!

..brick by brick...

Whoa! This is amazing.

..room by room.

I'm still having my pinch-me moment.

We're nowhere near finished
but it feels like a house now.

We are a renovation nation.

Today...

..in the Scottish Borders...

I don't know what we're gonna do
with the big rocket yet.

..a house move like no other...

I've called it a
massive, monumental move - MMM!

..raises eyebrows en route.

Did you see that guy
that did a, like,

a proper double take out of the car?

Does it look nice?

And an unloved bathroom...

It hasn't been touched for years.

..finally gets its due in Shropshire.

And do you know what?
This is one of my favourite rooms.

While in Cornwall...

It'd be really cool that this is
kind of like a secret passageway.

..a hidden cinema room...

And now the moment of truth.

..is ready for its close-up.

Are you happy? Yeah. God, yeah.

Near the Scottish
border town of Hawick,

stands this five-bedroomed,
stone-built farmhouse.

The original part of the property
is over 300 years old

and it lay unloved
and empty for two years.

It was purchased in 2023 for £615,000
by Rosie, a creative consultant,

and architectural
antiques dealer Anthony.

Rosie and Anthony
were renting a place in Yorkshire

and spent almost two years
searching the entire UK

for the perfect
renovation project to buy.

It's very exciting,
in...in that respect,

to make a home that's...that's ours,

not yours or mine
or...or somebody else's.

When it goes wrong, it's yours!

But it's not just the house that made
Rosie and Anthony fall in love.

Sitting in six and a half
acres of land,

there are also three barns
and outbuildings.

The clincher for antiques dealer
Anthony,

who has hundreds of unusual
items to find a new home for.

I've got, now, about 300 ton of...

..300 ton of different types
of salvage, so it's massive.

Earlier in the week,
we saw Anthony and Rosie

start to peel
back the layers of their farmhouse.

Creating a new bathroom with
roll top bath and fireplace,

and a spacious studio
perfect for the couple's design work.

With the house more habitable,
it's now time for them

to start bringing
all their worldly possessions home,

or, rather, all 300 tonnes
of salvaged items,

150 miles from
their old place in Yorkshire.

But it is a massive...
a massive thing.

I've called it a
massive, monumental move - MMM.

The M6 will get used to seeing

strange objects being brought
up on trailers.

Today's haul includes
ten antique pews

salvaged from
an old Methodist church.

And the first job is to load
the pews onto the fork-lift

so they can be safely moved
to one of the barns for storage.

Well, that's if Anthony
can get it to work.

Yeah. So, now my fork-lift is only,
erm...it won't go down by itself.

It'll only go down when there's
some weight on it.

I mean, we use old equipment.
That's part of the problem.

So...buy a bag of nuts,
get a bag of nuts!

We'll sell on, er, six of these
and we'll probably keep four.

Erm, definitely need three of 'em,
don't we? Yeah, definitely three.

Possibly four. For doing a little
party barn up at the top of the
hill.

No, it's gonna be a pub. A pub.

It's gonna be a pub called The
Crow's...The Crow's Nest. Yeah.

We're having a pub called
The Crow's Nest. We first...

We first thought The Crow's Arms
but, no, The Crow's Nest.

Yeah cos...
don't have arms, does it? No!

Oh...That's my first...
whoop...first sit down on church
pew.

Yeah, if you put...if you put...
Not too much of a backbreaker...

If you put a seat pad on there...
Well, no, sometimes...

Cos most church pews
make you sit up like that.

So you pay attention, don't they?
I know but we don't have to...

We don't have to be erm...you
know, righteous.

We don't want any slouchers
in our pub, do we?

In our pub! We want everybody
sat up drinking correctly!

As well as the more unusual
salvaged antiques,

Rosie and Anthony
will also be furnishing the house

with the many items
they've bought over the years...

including one of Rosie's favourites
that they brought up
on an earlier trip.

But there's a problem.

These are our very huge, erm,
wardrobes

which, erm, they're French,
they're turn of the century.

This whole section is...
is all hand carved

and you can...on the...on the back
side, you can actually see

where all the chisel, erm,
marks have been.

But they are, erm...

..about that much too tall

for the bedroom that they're going
in, which is our bedroom.

Fitting them in has been a subject
of furious debate.

We had a bit of an argument
about it because, erm...

..he was actually thinking of...
putting a ridge in the...

..in the ceiling
so that it could slot in,

which I said was a ridiculous idea.

So, he said, "Well, what do
you...what do you think?"

So, I... I took lots of photographs

of this...of this top bit...

and I...and I realised that if...

..if...if you...if you
lose that section...

..you actually don't lose anything
off the style of the piece.

And I measured it and...

..really,
really, very, very fortunately,

that gave us the difference
of being able to fit it in.

Erm, so, yeah, I think that's...
that's called lady luck.

So, as a consequence
of that, he's...

..he's bought this very
special little, erm...little saw

and I've bought some French Polish

and, hopefully, we'll...erm,
we'll make a good job of it.

Adapting the wardrobes
to fit their new home

is just one of many jobs Rosie and
Anthony have on their very long list

and with 300 tonnes of items
still to transport,

their massive, monumental move
is going to take some time.

On the glorious Cornish coastline,

high above Boscastle
sits beautiful Penally House.

Built in 1836 as a Georgian
gentleman's residence,

its first owner was rumoured
to be a smuggler.

In 2021, it came on the market.

17 rooms in need of serious TLC.

For interior designer Anouska,
art printer Greig,

plus four teenagers
from their first marriages,

it was the dream family home.

It looks like
a typical doll's house.

I mean, for me, it was like
the sort of house

you drew as a five-year-old.
It had perfect symmetry.

It had the big pillars
on the front door.

It's a unique property. Yeah.

Anouska and Greig
pooled all their resources

and made an offer of £1 million.

It wasn't the highest but the owners
loved their vision for the house.

Securing this house was the scariest
but the best moment of our life.

One. Two. Three. Go!

A year ago,
they hit the ground running.

It's got to go up again.

We stripped it back to its bare
bones and started again.

Penally was a perfect blank canvas
for Anouska's bold ideas.

I absolutely love it.

We'd say that, definitely,
my designs are a bit Marmite.

I think you do either
love it or you hate it.

Their renovation journey
didn't always go smoothly...

Oh, my gosh. No!

..but the end result was a triumph.

Absolutely tremendous. Yes.

Bonkers, to a degree,

but it's got a...quite a nice sense
of calmness to it as well. Yeah.

12 months have now passed and, today,

Penally is very much the family home
they dreamed of.

With lots more rooms finished
in Anouska's unique style.

We like to bring the love and colour
and laughter into the house. Yeah.

It's an ongoing, exciting journey.

With the renovation
of the main house complete,

it's now time to turn their
attention to the basement.

Anouska and Greig are hoping
to fit two bedrooms

and a teenage hang-out down here.

But, first, they need to declutter.

It doesn't seemed to go down,
the amount of stuff we've got.

The basement footprint is...

It's big. It's probably the size of
a two-bedroom stand-alone house.

Ace cabinet maker John,
who's done lots of work at Penally,

is back to discuss plans
for a basement cinema room.

So, ideas for this room. Mm.

A lot of it is gonna depend
on what we can do with the boiler,

which is behind you. OK.

In my head,
I'm envisaging all these ideas

but the practicality,
when you go down there...

and you've got copper pipes
running down the walls

and you've got no ceiling...

..and...how are you gonna
put electricity down there?

The whole first fix is something
that I just wish you could
just skip over.

We wanna make this
more of a kids' zone

for the teenagers to come down and
hang out with their friends, and...
Right.

So, having, like, a cinema room
would be... Yes. ..perfect.

..great. Encourage them to come
down to Cornwall and see us.

Just to get rid of them,
basically... Yeah.

They'll all be just down here in the
basement! ..which is a good idea!

So, huge, great cupboard there.
Yeah.

Massive, great position there.

I've got a 55-inch telly already,
which I bought ages ago,

which can sit in there.

And then whatever, symmetrical wise,
is on that side
also sits on this side.

What is that?
That is the original bread oven

from 1836 when the house was built.
Oh, my goodness me.

It's incredible, isn't it? It is.
It is.

What a feature. So, this would have
been the kitchen

down in the basement
where all the staff worked

to cook all the food for
the people living in the main house.

Yes. Another world. It was.

I think it would be really cool
that this is kind of like
a secret passageway...

Right. So, you'll come in

and then, you won't know
that there's a door.

So, this side would be...
wall panelling?

Be a panelled wall but that one of
the panels will be, actually,
a concealed door. Yes.

Yes. Fantastic.

So many big ideas but there's
a long way to go

before Anouska
can let rip with fabric and paint.

It has created a lot of...quite a
bit of interest, hasn't it, locally?

..leads to history uncovered.

It just tells the story
of a country house.

And in Cornwall...

..carpenter, John, gives the verdict
on his new apprentice.

For me, he's quite useful.
He's keen anyway.

Success! There we are.

In Shropshire, on the border
of England and Wales, is Oswestry.

Nearby lies Oakhurst Hall,

built in 1854
by Victorian railway entrepreneurs.

It was purchased in 2019 by Alan,
an exhibition graphics expert,

and Catherine, who runs
the family property business.

Earlier in the week, we saw Catherine
being pulled in two directions.

Renovating a second property to help
fund ongoing work at Oakhurst

and putting her trademark
stylish stamp

on a huge sitting room
transformation.

Oakhurst Hall has recently been
designated

with Grade II listed status.

When we first purchased
Oakhurst Hall...it wasn't listed.

No, it wasn't listed.

We never would have bought it
if it was listed.

If a property becomes listed,
it can make renovation expensive

because of the need to employ
specialist trades

or have bespoke items manufactured.

I think that would have
completely scared us off

so we were actually...

We have been very lucky that
we had actually completed

everything that we
needed to do before it got listed.

And the recent upgrade in status

has meant the property has become
even more of a local landmark.

It has created a lot of...quite a
bit of interest, hasn't it, locally?

Everyone knows
about Oakhurst Hall in Oswestry

because of it being the girls'
boarding house,

so it's a recognised,
historic building in the community.

So, whenever we meet people
and they...they find out

where we're living, it's, erm...

"Oh, great," you know, "you're
restoring it. That's fabulous."

Because it was
looking so tired and...

and it needed the love, didn't it?
Yeah.

Today, her thirst for knowledge
about the history of Oakhurst

has Catherine putting the renovation
on hold to travel to Oxfordshire.

She is meeting a special
former girls' school resident

who has just commissioned a book
on the history of Oakhurst Hall.

Dame Stephanie Shirley

is known as one of Britain's
most successful businesswomen

but her early life was very hard.

In 1939, she and her sister

arrived in Britain alone
as Jewish refugees,

having fled Nazi persecution.

Hi, Steve.

SHE SIGHS
It's so lovely to see you.

In 1945, she began her
secondary school education
at Oakhurst Hall as a boarder.

A period
that launched her into adult life.

Oakhurst provided six years
of peace and quiet

in a rural country, rural Shropshire

and it gave me a sense of security,

which I think the house
has a feeling of that.

I mean, it's an enormous house,
by most people's standards,

but it still feels cosy and warm

and it has a serenity about it.

It was a very
feminine place because...

..I remember the sort of...

..excitement when a delivery
boy came or something.

"A boy, a man!" you know,
at the girls' school.

Really, we were very silly girls.

We had quite a good social life.

We had hobbies.

We...we enjoyed the grounds.

After leaving Oakhurst,

Dame Stephanie went on to found a
successful all-women software company

and became a philanthropist

with a special interest
in helping children with autism.

the renovations
she and Alan have made to Oakhurst.

This is Big Dorm. Wow.

Do you remember Big Dorm?
So, that's how we inherited it.

It was bright orange and then we
turned it into our master bedroom.

Well, I feel quite
sentimental about it.

Dear Oakhurst. Yes.

Oakhurst meant so much
to Dame Stephanie,

she wanted its history
to be recorded.

I commissioned a local historian
to write the history of Oakhurst.

I'm so...touched
that you've done that.

Well, I hope it'll be lovely for
you but it just needed doing.

It...It's, really,
my gift to Oswestry.

It just tells the story
of a country house.

All the things that it's been doing
over the years.

It's absolutely perfect. It's going
to be...an incredible read

and that's what's amazing for Alan
and myself and the family,

is we're like the third
custodians... Yes. ..of the hall now

so that's quite an honour, isn't it?
Mm.

Such is the affection for
Dame Stephanie in Oswestry,

to mark her incredible
lifetime of achievement

and her time living at Oakhurst Hall,

the people of Oswestry installed
a blue plaque in her honour.

Energised by her visit
with Dame Stephanie,

Catherine is even more determined

to restore her home to
its former grandeur.

She's turning her attention back to
a room she started three years ago.

We knocked out this room
when we first moved in.

Panelled it, painted it, fitted it,

then just left it and moved
on to something else

because it wasn't a priority and
also I couldn't decide on...a paper

and how we were gonna finish
it off, to be honest.

Thankfully, wallpaper isn't
restricted by a Grade II listing

so Catherine can make a beeline
for her very favourite design.

It's been a long time coming

but I found this amazing paper
called Busy Bees.

This I just thought would be really
sweet on just two of the walls.

So, yeah, I'm quite excited
to get this done.

On the north Cornish coastline,
at 187-year-old Penally House...

Anouska and Greig's phase two
renovations are in full swing,

converting part of the old basement
into a cinema room.

I'll make the skirting...lower
so it runs straight into the sides.

Gorgeous.

Today, renovation wingman John is
designing the basement wall panelling

based on the kitchen
he lovingly created a year ago.

Will it be as chunky as that?
Yes, it will be.

So, I'll make it quite bold and
it will just sort of...

..It'll create almost like
a picture frame, if you like.

It's gonna be difficult
for the house to flow.

That's my biggest worry.

Like right now it's a rainbow
in the main house

and then downstairs looks like
a completely different house.

It's just a grey montage.

And for me, normally
I love the end result,

so I love getting
straight to the colour

and straight to the pattern
and the wow factor

but actually I'm gonna have to
really reverse and slow things down.

Currently slowing things down are
Penally's boiler and water tanks.

We've been told that's not big
enough for the job for this house
now.

It has to be replaced

and the floor plan for the basement
needs a rethink

to be able to house
the three tanks needed.

Nine months of hard work
putting this in

to get the upstairs all online and
now having to relocate everything.

Renovation never goes
straightforward.

To take his mind
off his plumbing woes,

Greig's having an awayday
at John's workshop.

Knock, knock.

Hi, John. Oh, hiya.

The panels for the basement
need finishing,

so, he's hoping to pick up new
woodworking skills from the master.

I'm just about to put this...
the last panel together.

Oh, awesome.

So, this is how it interlocks

the wrong way round. Huh?

Despite an A-level
in Design Technology...

That's it. The thick bit...

..Greig's got a lot to learn.

There's 122 pieces of moulding
to measure and cut.

The pressure is on.

So, that's what's gonna
sit...inside each panel frame...for
us to get.

So, we've got a much, much
higher ridge there.

But it's still level.

Er, glue and pin it. Yeah.

Glue and pin? Yeah.

Er, put them all in first.

Oh, yeah, and also a bit of glue

before you put it in on that end.

On the end. Yeah. So it sticks.

So, he's quite useful.
He's keen, anyway.

Erm...I mean, that's important.

You know...if you employ someone,

the most important thing is
they want the job, you know?

But my A-levels I made a chair.

So, there we are.

So, I...no...always fascinated with
wood and carpentry

understanding the cuts etc

but also getting involved with
wood.

I find wood fascinating
to work with, really, so...

One down, John.

In Hawick, Rosie and Anthony are
continuing their epic mission

to transport 300 tonnes of antiques
and salvaged items

from their old house in Yorkshire

to their farmhouse

parts of which date back to 1709.

Amongst the church pews, bathroom
fittings and industrial lights,

there are also many more
unusual items.

What did we buy the other day?
It was a...

It was a box of, erm,
wooden mannequin arms and hands.

Oh, yeah. Just the arms and hands.
Yeah.

I don't know what we're gonna do
with the big rocket yet.

Ah, yes. The rocket,

which is actually
an old RAF Tornado drop tank,

is today slowly winding
its way to its new home.

Yeah, so we're getting a few looks,
aren't we?

It's not every day you see
something. You see a bomb go by.

Did you see that guy that,
erm, did a...like,

After 150 miles on the road,
Rosie, Anthony, Tig the dog

and the 22-foot rocket finally arrive
at the farmhouse.

Yay! Home. Home! We got here.

Not every renovator has to find
a home for so many unusual items.

But when you've got a project
of this scale,

you never know
what you're going to need.

This is our...what?

I don't know. This is probably
about our tenth trip so far

and we bring, every time we bring
between two and four ton up.

I mean, I've been collecting
stuff for ten years.

We're still buying as well, aren't
we? We're still buying. Yeah.

So, like, stuff like this, if we
see, you know, we kind of...

if we need stuff,
we make a mental note,

whether it's roof slates or whatever
it is, we're still buying

because we know we'll, even though
we're not ready to do that job,

we're still buying.
Everything's so expensive nowadays.

We just, like, you have to buy
it when you see it. Yeah.

For now, there aren't any firm plans
for the rocket.

That's the sort of thing you fall in
love with, isn't it?

But as it still needs carefully
lifting off the trailer...

..Anthony's trusty fork-lift
truck is back in action.

And with a bit of
gentle persuasion...

..it finds a temporary resting place

until they can work out exactly
what to do with it.

Back in Oswestry and at Oakhurst
Hall, Catherine can finally start

putting her wallpaper up
in her downstairs bathroom.

But, first, she needs to make
sure the pattern matches.

That's it...there, I think.

It hasn't been touched for years,
this bathroom.

And this is such thick, lush paper.

..for the next bit but that other
one's gonna have to wait.

Does it look nice?

Oh, yeah. It does look nice.

A few weeks later, with Catherine's
wallpapering skills finishing

the job off expertly, there
are just a few final details to add.

It's the finishing touches.
It's the fun bit.

All right, here we go.

Got to get the thing up.

Faux...faux flowers.

Get rid of the dust!

That's it. I think we're done.

It may have taken three years
but Catherine had a vision

and has seen it through
to completion.

Where previously there stood
a dusty old cloakroom,

with her typical, thoughtful eye
for design,

Catherine has created
an elegant cloakroom

that has all her trademark features.

A simple but effective colour scheme
giving the room a classy finish,

period fittings that tie in
with the age of the house

and, of course, the panelling

that Catherine has used to give
the room instant character.

Another room ticked off the list.

And do you know what?
This is one of my favourite rooms.

It doesn't feel like
a downstairs loo.

Take the toilet out of it
and it's a really lovely room.

It is a really nice room.

I love the panelling, which was my
first effort of panelling

and it worked really, really well
and then I got bitten by the bug.

The wallpaper is really fun
and really lovely.

It's been quite a blank shell for
quite a long time, hasn't it?

They come together over a period
of time, don't they?

They don't just suddenly get done.
You have to live in it.

You can decorate it but then you've
got to add those finishing touches

like the furniture and
the furnishings and accessories

and stuff and that's what I like
about this room, I think.

We've just added to it
and...and now...done, finished.

Put our own stamp on it.

That's what you're trying
to say, isn't it? Yeah, yeah.

Yet another Catherine project
is complete.

There's just no stopping her.

On the Cornish coast
at beautiful Penally House,

renovation work is gathering pace.

In their soon-to-be cinema room,

Anouska and Greig have already
waterproofed the walls

and checked the space will work
with their eclectic furniture.

It's a funny shape.

Once we get
our teeth into something,

we don't stop until it's finished.

Is that gonna fit in that gap?

No, it's gonna go on the outside
and then all the wires and
everything

will all be, like, dropped down
the back like that.

Oh, actually it looks quite good.

And then I think you guys
will just living here.

£5 a film. It'll be perfect.

from a London theatre.

Oh, my gosh. I LOVE the colour.

I actually thought...I was worried
that they were gonna be too pink.

Pink won't be a problem, Sean.

They're so cool. I love them and I
love the fact they're more pink

cos I'm obsessed with pink.

I'm not entirely sure
the exact date

but I think somewhere '70s,
I would say.

This one's got an A on it
so I found my seat and they're pink.

OK. Where's the G, then?
Yeah, I'm not sure we go that far!

£1,000 are off to their new home.

I am so happy with these.

It's a big day at Penally.
The old boiler is finally out.

I wasn't expecting it
to be that heavy.

The cinema room walls

..and now John's bespoke wooden
panels have arrived.

up against this wall? Yeah.

That's so cool.

Seven of these. Wow.

So, today is gonna be a big
turning point. It is.

Once you see it all up,
then...it's down to you. Yeah.

You get a good idea. Yeah.

The panels are primed, damp protected

and ready to fix to the frame.

That's amazing.

But at the 11th hour, there's
a problem with the lights.

When we fix the panels...
to the...obviously the walls,

we need to pull through the cables
for the wall lights.

So, it's trying to figure out...
what type of wall lights to have,

depending on where we pull
the cables through...the wall

so it's a bit tricky.

We don't have to drill the hole
today though, do we? Yeah.

Got to pull them through today,
darling. Really?

Yeah, otherwise you're gonna
screw this to the wall.

How are we gonna get to the wire?

I didn't know that we'd be drilling
the holes through today. Yeah.

I thought that... I think we just
take a measurement, darling,

and just go, "Wallop, there."

Have you got the lights? No. No.

Cos I didn't want to buy the lights
without seeing the panels.

With no time to lose,
Greig makes an executive decision.

Sometimes you have to make
the decision and push forward

it's time to see

if the salvaged theatre seats were
the right choice for the room.

It feels like we're on a bus! It

The transformation is massive.

It's suddenly gone from, like, a
building site to more than halfway.

I feel like we're kind of...

The end is in sight when you see
it today. Yeah. It looks amazing.

The room is taking shape but with
panelling to finish and paint,

wallpaper to put up
and the electrics to install,

there's still a long way to go.

We're trying to give the cinema seat
some stability

without drilling into the floor.

In the Scottish Borders,
Rosie and Anthony are pushing ahead

with the renovation
of their farmhouse,

parts of which
date back to the early 1700s.

Dividing their time between
regular trips to Yorkshire

to transport 300 tonnes
of architectural salvage

from their old house with ongoing
work on the farmhouse.

Today, Rosie is in what will be
their main bedroom,

uncovering period details
on the original shutters.

It's all about
the bones of the building

and celebrating them, exposing them

and when you've got those
bones right,

then the decoration sort of
falls into place on its own.

You know, weapon of choice, erm,
is not some horrible chemical.

Erm...it's a screwdriver. So...

And a bit of sandpaper.

While Rosie is busy on the windows,
Anthony has some adjustments to make

to the pair of French wardrobes
they picked up at auction

and his weapon of choice
is a brand-new tool.

Even bought a brand-new saw for
this because all my others are...

I've been using 'em
to cut all sorts of stuff,

plasterboard and everything so
it's like I needed a sharp one.

So, I...

So, if there's any blame, it's
on me not the saw, not the tools.

Anthony has already cut a piece
off the top of the wardrobes

but after some careful measuring,

they're still too tall
for the bedroom.

Stand by for some precision cutting.

I've never been so...nervous
at cutting something. Ooh!

Scary biscuits!

One down, three more to go.

I do like the sound, though, of my
new saw on something nice and old.

Oh, I'm pleased that's
having the right effect, then.

With the legs now
carefully sawn off...

time to see if Anthony got
his measurements right.

So, there's one wardrobe
going there and one over there,

and there's, like, an inch and a
half difference in floor levels

so...be another
suck it and see experience.

So, Rosie and Anthony get to work

carrying the pieces
into their bedroom.

It's a backbreaker.
They weigh a ton, don't they? Yeah.

So, it's got...it's got these
little mechanisms in. Rather...

They're the screws that hold it
together. Yeah, I know.

We didn't realise
it was a flat-pack!

That's what I was gonna say!

off that wardrobe.

The great thing is that it doesn't
look like we've done it...

Yeah. ..at all. We've got away
with it totally. Yeah.

It's another small step
for Rosie and Anthony.

We've been here what? Five or
so months and we've...we've gone

from...sleeping on the floor
with no hot water,

no drinking water, no fridge.

Erm, BUT we've now
got rooms that we...

..that look like... We got a
bedroom. ..that look like rooms.

We...we've got
a bed and we've got clothes

and we've got...freezers.
I haven't. You have.

You haven't got any clothes! No.

We've got a studio that we can
actually start to use for projects.

With a massive, monumental move
well under way

and a house that is gradually
becoming a home,

Rosie and Anthony
are relishing their great adventure.

Every time we come out of
the front door... Yes.

Erm...we can't believe that we're...
we're so lucky to be here.

We wanna spend the next three...

probably five years
doing this project.

So, every small win is, you know,
it's...it's a real joy.

In Cornwall, basement renovations
are continuing at Penally House.

The cinema room is on track,

with the panelling
now painted and wallpapered

and the fireplace tiled.

But the secret door off
the new hallway has hit a snag.

I don't think the magnets work.
Really? Yeah.

For it to remain a secret,

they can't have a handle
on the entrance hall side.

I don't think, "Open Sesame," will
work for this Aladdin's cave.

Velcro? I like the idea.

Oh. Why is, like,
what you think is gonna be a simple
finishing job, like, not simple?

But after 20 years in the trade,
builder Omar can always be relied on

to have a trick up his sleeve,
or in his van, at least.

So, you just happen to have
a spring? Er, yeah.

You should be able to adjust
this one so it isn't too bangy. OK.

But just enough to... Gently close.
Gently close.

I think that's better.
So, should we give it a whirl?

Wow. That was a little too easy.

Is this on show? Yeah. Mm. No?

It's just a bit ugly, isn't it?
Well, you can get the brass ones.

As one door closes, ALMOST...

..on one issue,
another takes centre stage.

We're trying to give the cinema
seats some stability

without drilling into the floor

and if we put them on timber,
it means if we have a party in here,

we can move the seats around

but, at the moment, the seats
really rock when you sit on them.

Greig is fixing a wooden
platform to the cinema chair legs...

Do you want me to hold the seat?

..to see if that
will keep them stable.

Wanna go?
Are you gonna be the test?

Yeah. It's perfect.
Much better than it was.

That's gotta be fine, hasn't it?
Yeah, it's totally fine.

In the final push to get
the cinema room premiere-ready...

We need to position these lights
cos we need to mark the ceiling.

We still have a gap
at the back there.

a piece of wood goes in there.

Don't worry.
That's all being sorted.

And it will be painted in maroon?
Yeah.

OK. There might be more than
a few tasks left.

Glue on my pompoms that
have dropped off as well. Yeah.

Three weeks later and Anoushka's
cinematic passion project is ready
for the spotlight.

So, what premiere are you taking me
to at the Penally House
secret cinema?

The transformation starts

before they've even stepped foot
into the cinema.

With a beautiful new hallway created
from scratch

With John's elegant panelling

now painted and papered
in Anoushka's trademark style.

It is there.
That's if you can find the door.

Yeah, I know. Look at that.
It blends in perfectly, doesn't it?

It's amazing. So, in you go.

And now the moment of truth.

A year ago, this cellar was
the perfect setting

for a low-budget horror film.

Dark, damp and uninhabitable.

And now it's a real blockbuster.

Rich with colour
and alive with pattern,

this spectacular room

is a glorious throwback
to the golden era of cinema.

Absolutely perfect. And it does feel
like a secret cinema.

It does feel like an underground
gentlemen's club,

which is the feel that...
we wanted to create,

that it was kind of a secret...
Cigar room. ..hidden room.

It's awesome.
Are you happy? Yeah. God, yeah.

Looking absolutely incredible.

There's probably times where
you couldn't see what I could see

but you trusted me. Yeah, yeah.

The wraparound panelling,
resplendent in its deep red

offsets the wallpaper showing scenes
of theatre-goers enjoying a show.

We never need to leave
Penally House.

We can just stay here forever.

Canopied by a gold ceiling,
meticulously hand sprayed

to a smooth finish, the metallic
paint reflects light and warmth.

The room has been carefully zoned

to give the space
a little bit of everything.

A cosy fireside sitting area,

a compact but typically bijou bar
with custom lighting

that tested Greig's handyman skills

and, of course, the cinema itself.

Another tour de force
from carpenter John.

Do you know what I love?

I love that John's done
this extra detailing.

Oh, no. Yeah, yeah.
That's his little special treat.

And with the salvaged cinema
seats taking centre stage...

I think this has dictated the entire
workings of the room, really.

And we've put them on skis.
We're not rocking any more.

We used to rock, didn't we, on here?

But the ones behind are slightly
thicker,

so at least the people
behind are gonna be higher up

so that's much, much better.

Gosh, it feels like yesterday...
that we were sat on boxes

here with the children...trying
to work out heights.

And that looks incredible.

You could even say the cinema
room is Oscar-worthy, Greig.

This has been the biggest challenge

of the entire house, I'd say.
