THE STORIES AND CHARACTERS DEPICTED HERE WERE INSPIRED BY OUR HISTORY
NO ANIMALS WERE HARMED DURING THE FILMING OF THIS PRODUCTION
My dear.
Are you all right?
I burn up inside, mother.
I'm so thirsty.
Here, my love.
My honest girl, as pure as water.
Drink all you want, eh?
Good.
Is that enough?
Yes, mother. Thank you.
Oh, my bright faced...
dark fated girl.
You scared us.
I was so afraid...
that something bad would happen...
that you would give your life.
Mother.
Sırma?
Sırma is dead, my girl.
The alps buried her next to your brother.
One endangered our tribe...
the other tried to take my life.
However, they were my siblings.
I'm left all alone in this big world.
I have nothing left to hold to.
From now on, your place is here with us.
You have us to hold to.
I've...
always longed for a daughter.
And you grew up almost without a mother.
We will share our woes...
and revel in our bliss.
We will lean on each other...
and carry one another.
From now on, I will be a mother to you...
and you will be a daughter to me.
2 DAYS LATER
Oh, thank God.
I've missed my homeland...
with its invigorating water and its refreshing air.
My bey.
Blackberries, my bey, blackberries.
They just sprout out from their branches.
Here, eat.
The taste and smell of the land is even hidden in these berries.
Come on, alps. We must make haste to the tribe.
All right, my bey.
Father.
We have agreed on the great war matter with Berke Khan.
But, when we get back to the tribe,
there's the personal matter you gave your word on.
Tell me, what is this word?
Your wedding, Father.
You promised İlbilge Hatun you'd get married when your duty was over.
So?
What is it that troubles you?
The great war matter on one side...
the wedding on the other.
How will it be?
We will postpone neither our cause nor our promise, Son.
Surely we will prioritize one over the other.
However, everything comes in time.
If we go off to our duty before the wedding...
we might not be able to return.
After your wedding, it's the same.
It must be hard for both you and İlbilge Hatun.
Listen, Son. Our ancestors said that a bull's kismet was carrying horns.
And our kismet is carrying a sword from birth to death.
For our conquest, we seek war and we challenge the cruel souls.
And is there a bigger war and feast than a wedding for a Turk?
We've all signed up for this.
This is not an obligation but a blessing for us.
Let's get back to our tribe first. We will see what we can do.
Bismillahirrahmanirrahim.
Come on, alps! Come on!
Are you all right?
Thank God and you, I'm fine.
May God bless you all.
You didn’t leave me by myself.
That's what friends are for, İlbilge Hatun.
If something like this happened to us, you'd do the same.
Let's forget about this.
Let me boil you some linden and cinnamon.
No, no. Don't bother.
Well, is there anything you wish, any food or berries you crave?
No. Thank you.
Osman.
What is this?
This is for you, İlbilge Hatun.
There was no need, Osman.
Why did you trouble yourself for me?
Remember, İlbilge Hatun...
when I was wounded and you fed me soup, I made you a promise.
I was to bring you game with my own hands.
I've kept my word.
I hope it helps you heal.
Thank you.
What are these kettledrums?
I hope it's good news.
Hopefully.
Or is it... Father!
Who might it be?
I hope it's good news.
It is, it is.
-My bey. -Our bey is coming!
Make way!
Welcome, my bey!
Father.
My bey, welcome.
Welcome, Ertuğrul Bey!
Glad to be back.
My father and brothers are back, nana. They’re back from duty.
Welcome, my bey!
Glad to be here.
Welcome, my bey!
My alps are back.
Thank God.
Welcome, my bey!
Glad to be back.
Glad to be back.
Long live Ertuğrul Bey!
-Long live Ertuğrul Bey! -Long live Ertuğrul Bey!
-Long live Ertuğrul Bey! -Long live Ertuğrul Bey!
-Long live Ertuğrul Bey! -Long live Ertuğrul Bey!
-Long live Ertuğrul Bey! -Long live Ertuğrul Bey!
Praise be!
The shining swords, the brave alps of the Kayı!
Welcome back to your tribe, sons!
Glad to be back, Mother.
-Welcome, Father. -Glad to see you, my brave boy.
-Welcome, Father. -Glad to see you, my lion.
-Mother. -My precious darling.
Oh, thank God!
Glad to be back, mother.
-Welcome, Brother. -Oh!
Brother.
Welcome.
-Brother. -Brother.
-My bey. -Look at you.
Just look at you.
Welcome, my bey.
Glad to see you.
Glad to see you, Artuk Bey.
You too, Melikşah.
İlbilge Hatun.
We have things to tell you, Son.
Let's get to the marquee.
Where are my brother Gündoğdu and Selcan Hatun?
We got the help from Gündoğdu Bey.
And we placed them where you told us.
However...
then word came.
They went back to their tribe.
İltekin went after the Mongols, Son. There's has been no word from him since.
Dündar is looking for him, too.
Gündoğdu didn't want to leave his tribe unattended and left.
Good.
Things are going to get messy.
It's good for him to be with his tribe.
And Dündar is going to come back soon, Son.
Dündar matured there. He got married and built a family.
He will not be like before when he returns.
It will be a more capable...
sturdier Dündar.
İlbilge Hatun.
İlbilge Hatun suffered a great misfortune, my son.
What is it, İlbilge Hatun?
The Mongols intervened with the beyhood election.
They tried to have their own man selected, Ertuğrul Bey.
Thank them, Turgut Bey and Gündoğdu Bey...
helped out.
We did away with the danger. We undid their game.
At the last moment, enraged with vengeance...
Sırma tried to kill me.
She got a taste of my sword.
How are you now?
Has the Kayı Tribe taken good care of you?
God bless them. They took very good care of me.
I'm very well, thank God.
Your bravery, your fearlessness,
the struggle you give for justice and the truth
can never be repaid, İlbilge Hatun.
Traitors and cruel men have gotten what they deserved both in the Umur Tribe
and in Söğüt.
The whole world saw that it is impossible to overcome people of faith.
We have slashed the evil mask of darkness with our claws of steel.
We did right by our duty.
Henceforth, today and the days ahead will bring us a fresh start.
However...
first, we must stay true to our word.
And then we will start our campaign with God's permission.
Mother, let the wedding preparations begin.
Let friend and foe see...
how the Kayı handle a wedding preparation.
Don't you worry, Son.
Feeding the hungry...
dressing the barefooted...
is the law of our beyhood and hatunhood.
Just let us take care of the wedding.
We will butcher the best of all camels and sheep...
and lay the best of tables with such sherbets...
that even our enemies will be impressed.
It is now time for the wedding preparations.
Just look at my brave men, just look at them.
Look, son. Always turn your body towards your enemy.
And keep your back straight and flexible.
Take a firm stance, okay? Come on.
Come on, brave alps.
My sons, brave alps, always have a strong grip.
If your grip is weak, you will lose both your wrist
and your sword! Come on, brave alps!
Oh, my Aybars.
Aybars, not like holding a book,
get a firm grip, hold your sword tight. All right, my boy?
Come on, my Aybars. Come on, brave alps, very good.
Very good, my brave alps.
Very good. Very good, brave alps.
Good. Very good.
Brave alps, stop a minute. Listen to me.
I see that you are very talented,
very good at swinging your sword against the enemy.
But now, I ask you...
how will you defend yourself
when the enemy swings his sword at you?
By making a counter move with the sword, Head Alp Bamsı.
Okay, all right, Osman. That's one way, you're right.
You're right, but what else?
Is there any other way of defending yourself?
With our wrist armor.
Good, very good, my brave alp. You're right.
Good, come now.
Come up here with Osman.
Brave alps, now while these two braves go at it,
I will show you how to defend with wrist armor.
All right? Come on. Come on now, brave alps. The arena is yours.
Very good!
Yes. Very good.
Just look at my brave alps!
With claws like wolves, like hawks!
Come on, very good. Come on!
Come on, brave alps. Let's go, you too!
Just look at them, very good!
God is life! God is just!
Just a little more, my lions! Very good!
Come on, my lions!
Tie its feet.
Very nice!
Oh, very good.
You will make it, too, when you grow up.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Selamünaleyküm.
-Aleykümselam. -Aleykümselam.
Aleykümselam, master. Aleykümselam.
What is this, Bamsı?
Did they beat the war drums and I didn't hear?
You never know when the war drums will beat with us, master.
That's why I'm training these young fresh boys.
A new day begins. A war is at our door, master.
We train so that we are not unprepared in fighting...
the cruel.
Very good. However...
you know that training is not only with the sword, right?
What else is there, master?
You need to always train...
your heart and your mind.
For before the sword hits the battlefield...
war begins in the heart and the mind.
First, you need to grow conquest and victory...
in your hearts and in your minds...
and then bring it to an end...
on the battlefield with your sword.
We train by swinging our swords so that we might strengthen our grip.
What should we do to strengthen our hearts and our minds, master?
A person does not earn esteem by his usual behavior..
but by what he means to achieve.
You should set your goals as high...
as your heart is large...
and your mind is strong.
Our great God commands in the İnşirah Surah:
"When you are done with one task, start another."
In order to do this...
your goals and dreams need to be big.
The bigger the dream...
the stronger your effort.
Your mind will be here today. But your dreams...
will not impact today or tomorrow...
but the five centuries to come...
and the next 1,000 years.
Dream such a dream...
adopt such a big goal that...
that goal light your eyes...
and your walk let people know...
that you have that dream.
-Do you know Constantinople? -It's a Byzantium city, master.
I hear it's magnificent. It has very sturdy forts.
Nobody has been able to conquer it.
Our prophet, Sallallahu Aleyhi ve Sellem commands:
"Constantinople will no doubt be conquered.
The soldier who will conquer it is so magnificent.
The commander who will conquer it is so magnificent."
Be brave alps with big dreams and goals.
Strive to achieve our prophet's words.
Even if you can't achieve it today...
lay the path for your descendants.
Plant such a seed that...
it may yield fruit in 1,000 years if necessary.
May God predestine us and our descendants to achieve this goal.
-Amen! -Amen!
-Amen! Amen! -Amen, Osman.
But don't forget...
in order to achieve our prophet's goal...
you need to live a life worthy of our prophet.
Know well that anything achieved without following his path
is of no value and always will be.
Thank you, master. Thank you. You speak so well from the heart.
I see you are sad, mother.
I'm not sad.
I'm feeling proud.
Most of our lives...
was spent serving this marquee...
the keepsake left by my Süleyman Şah.
There were many joys...
and many sorrows in this marquee.
Many tears...
fell onto this marquee's rugs.
Who knows how many cries of victory have sounded in it?
Surely there have been days that we were shaken, too.
But every time...
we knew how to revive and stand up.
Mother...
you've been through so many ordeals.
You've suffered so much.
But we always see you stand tall.
Being a hatun...
does not solely mean tending to the needs of the tribe and marquee, my girl.
Being a hatun is putting the home in order.
Giving it faith, giving it power.
The hatun is such a backbone that...
if she should fall...
the house falls, too.
The bey does the fighting.
However, the hatun boils the pot.
The bey keeps the tribe adrift.
However, the hatun keeps it in order.
The bey...
is the mind of the tribe.
The hatun is its soul.
You've heard it from me, remember it.
Let your daughter hear it from you...
and remember it, too.
The good news you gave has started a new day already, my bey.
It's as if the people were asleep for a long time...
and now they have woken up and risen.
It's all the fruit of our struggle and effort.
We were a tribe of 400 tents...
but we spread fear in all directions.
Many trees shall rise from these seeds, God willing.
God willing.
-Son. -Father.
Ember is not enough in itself to turn dark iron red-hot.
You need bellows to flare it up.
I thought I'd strengthen my sword.
The wedding is about to start.
Come, stand over here.
You should set your horse, your iron, your arrow...
apart from everything else.
For we have come to be known in the world with these three.
We have mastered the three for centuries.
Know iron to be like yourself.
The more it burns, the hotter it gets.
As you hit the hot iron, it becomes sharper.
And there is no enemy that a sharp sword won't pierce.
It's like they say...
the infidel's head is dough,
the Turk's iron.
You're right, Father.
Iron must be like a brave man.
It shouldn't rust, just like the wrist and heart of a soldier.
That's for certain.
It is best to have an unbeatable fighter and a sword that cannot rust.
Come on, get your hammer.
First, the ringing of iron...
then, the sound of qopuz.
Bismillahirrahmanirrahim.
-God is life! -God is just!
-God is life! -God is just!
-God is life! -God is just!
-God is life! -God is just!
-God is life! -God is just!
-God is life! -God is just!
-God is life! -God is just!
Oh, look at that bride She has henna on her hand
Don't say anything to the bride She will get offended and run to her land
There is henna on her door She is like an angel
Bismillahirrahmanirrahim.
Happy bridal henna to you May your wish come true
Oh, look at that bride She has henna on her hand
Don't say anything to the bride She will get offended and run to her land
There is henna on her door She is like an angel
Happy bridal henna to you May your wish come true
Oh, look at that bride She has henna on her hand
Don't say anything to the bride She will get offended and run to her land
There is henna on her door She is like an angel
Happy bridal henna to you May your wish come true
Oh, look at that bride She has henna on her hand
Don't say anything to the bride She will get offended and run to her land
There is henna on her door She is like an angel...
You glow like the moon, my girl.
...Happy bridal henna to you May your wish come true...
May bad faces and evil eyes stay away from you, God willing.
Amen, mother Hayme. May God bless you.
You brought me these peaceful times.
May the blessing of your union be upon us all.
Amen. God willing, my girl.
Happy bridal henna to you...
You're like a fairy, İlbilge Hatun.
May you have armies of sons and tribes of daughters.
-God willing. -Amen.
She has henna on her hand
Don't say anything to the bride She will get offended and run to her land
There is henna on her door She is like an angel
Happy bridal henna to you May your wish come true
Thank God, my bey.
We got the chance to eat at your wedding table.
May God bless you with...
the abundance of this table.
Amen, my brother, amen.
We came to our bey's blessed wedding and sat at his table.
We ate from the wedding food.
However, unless you praise the tribe, my bey...
no fortune will come out of it.
Let's see how Bamsı does the praise.
All right, my bey. All right.
Now, the deer knows the pastures that it grazes.
The goat knows the grass of the high mountains.
The camel knows the way of different paths.
The fox knows the smell of the seven creeks.
The horse knows the heavy man from the light.
Where there is a burden, its bearer knows it.
The brain knows the ache of the witless head.
Now...
the poet travels with his qopuz exalting bey after bey, land after land.
-Thank you. -The poet
knows the open-handed bey from the stingy one.
May it be the poet who sings in my bey's marquee.
May God do away with any misfortune that may befall us.
May my bey's state be permanent.
May it be permanent, hey!
Amen.
Amen, my brother, amen.
Bamsı did his praise well.
Now, you recite some poems for us, poet.
Thank you, Ertuğrul Bey.
The 24 tribes of the Oğuz bring the day of great victory.
The noble lineage of the glorious Turk bring the day of great victory.
The Bozok and Üçok branches' history are full of victory.
Lead the path to the conquest, for today is the day of great victory.
We have a made mark on Manzikert thanks to our martyrs and veterans.
We go back 1,000 years, and today is the day of great victory.
Oh, don't forget your ancestors, they built this home for us.
Those who were martyred for it, for today is the day of great victory.
The day is close now, the whole world will know about it.
We will eradicate the crusaders, for today is the day of great victory.
Let the day break, these lands are no longer enough.
A holy dawn is upon us, for today is the day of great victory.
The time for a campaign has come, know that we share the same blood.
You burn with the passion of victory, for today is the day of great victory.
Oh, Turkmen, let's plant sorrow, let's plant our banner onto forts.
Let's drain the blood of infidels, for today is the day of great victory.
Check your sword and armor well.
As the sons of the bey, let's not disgrace ourselves on the wedding floor.
We're not going to war, Brother.
What is it?
This is my sword.
It's a good sword, Osman.
-Let me carry it. -No, Brother.
Carry your own sword.
I am the eldest, Osman.
I think it would suit me best.
You are both good at the sword.
This is the first time I've wanted one so.
It should be mine.
I forged this sword with my father.
It's my right to carry it.
So what if you forged it with Father?
Isn't he the father of us three?
I would throw it in the furnace, melt it and still not give it up.
You win again with your unflinching determination.
Well! What are you still doing here?
-They're about to start, my boy. -We're ready, Grandmother.
Good.
And...
your father will leave tomorrow.
But your uncle Dündar is on the way.
Uncle Dündar?
Yes, uncle Dündar.
He is back years later.
And this time, he won't leave.
He has become a determined, brave bey like you.
Let's see what will happen with your uncle Dündar.
Let's see. Come on.
May God forgive us for all our sins.
-May he forgive us. -May he forgive us.
May he forgive us.
-May he forgive us. -May he forgive us.
May he forgive us.
-May he forgive us. -May he forgive us.
İlbilge, daughter of Umur...
do you accept Ertuğrul, son of Süleyman Şah, to be you husband?
I do.
Do you accept him?
I do.
-Do you accept him? -I do.
Ertuğrul, son of Süleyman Şah...
do you accept İlbilge, daughter of Umur, to be your wife?
I do.
Do you accept her?
I do.
-Do you accept her? -I do.
Witnesses...
are you witness to this?
-We are. -We are.
And I, in the presence of witnesses and the people present here, marry you.
May God bless your union.
Amen.
-Amen. -Amen.
Father.
You just came back from duty.
Why do you have to leave tomorrow?
Aslıhan.
My beautiful daughter. My lamb.
Many campaigns await us on this new day.
My lamb, the duty of the alp starts
with the prayer whispered into his ear when he is born...
and ends with the one that is said when he dies.
Will this campaign last long, Father?
Well, my Aybars.
My son.
Maybe a day...
maybe a year.
Son...
maybe we will never return.
My children...
we will take justice there on the tip of our swords.
We will bring hope to the oppressed.
Children, nothing we do is for this day.
Everything is for tomorrow.
So that we can leave future generations like yours a future
where you can walk with your head held high.
My Bamsı...
whether you return or stay...
you have a hatun and children who will be proud of you for a lifetime.
Just know that.
All our prayers are with you and alps like you.
Thank you, my Hafsa. Thank you.
I know you all. Don't I know you?
Oh! Oh, look at you!
Oh, my lamb. My lamb.
Oh, my lion. My lion.
Oh, my children.
Thank you.
Why do you stand there, İlbilge Hatun?
Do you abstain from your bey?
Come, sit.
While I thought Söğüt would be hell for me...
as the dark clouds came down closer above me...
thank God they are all gone now.
Thanks to the hope and light you bring, Ertuğrul Bey.
No matter your situation,
you never let anything happen to your tribe.
Now, I believe that whenever I'm in need...
you won't let anything happen to me or my marquee.
From now on, we will light the dark together...
go through hard tests side by side.
I was destined to fall apart from my kin.
Now, the biggest prize for me...
is not just being your wife...
but being by your side in the struggle for justice.
From now on, this is my most honorable duty.
I had lost my family.
My marquee had fallen silent.
I was in the deepest wells of despair.
There was neither a spark of light, nor a sound that would give hope.
However, God showed his great mercy within our test.
He gave me a family...
and a blessed marquee.
People are sometimes tested with their family...
sometimes their property, and sometimes their loved ones.
Although you were tested with...
your family, your property and your loved ones...
you never compromised on justice or truth.
And only a truthful woman like you...
would fit this marquee after so many years.
The time to leave has come, İlbilge Hatun.
Don't worry about us, Ertuğrul Bey.
Your tribe and your marquee are safe with us.
I can turn my back and leave with ease now that you are here, İlbilge Hatun.
I will not be worrying at all.
And I am hopeful of the future because of you, Ertuğrul Bey.
I believe that in the future, stories about you and your fight...
will be told in this land.
And I know that your descendants will speak highly of you.
For your descendants smiling when they hear your name centuries later...
will be your prayers come true.
God willing.
God willing.
We struggle, God delivers.
We might leave and not get there, we might get there and not come back, Mother.
Give me your blessing.
My blessing is yours, Son.
You, who I have enwrapped in cradles with my love...
the apple of my eye, a piece of my life, the flower of my existence, my son.
May the prayers of your mother be a two-winged vessel for you.
Thank you, Mother. Thank you.
Father.
Just look at my young alps.
You are the poles of our marquee.
You stand upright so that our marquee and our head are held high.
Osman...
I entrust the marquee to you.
Come now, my brave alps.
-Long live Ertuğrul Bey! -Long live Ertuğrul Bey!
-Long live Ertuğrul Bey! -Long live Ertuğrul Bey!
-Long live Ertuğrul Bey! -Long live Ertuğrul Bey!
-Long live Ertuğrul Bey! -Long live Ertuğrul Bey!
-Long live Ertuğrul Bey! -Long live Ertuğrul Bey!
-Long live Ertuğrul Bey! -Long live Ertuğrul Bey!
-Long live Ertuğrul Bey! -Long live Ertuğrul Bey!
We have seen many cruel men, many traitors.
We were not afraid of going to lengths that they said couldn't be reached.
We went over insurmountable mountains.
Now the dawn displays a new red.
A new day is being born.
This is not only a new day that will separate darkness from light...
but the birth of...
a new order, a new age.
Now is the time we have all been waiting for.
For years, we've been through thick and thin together.
We leave, but we might not return.
Give us your blessing.
-It is yours! -It is yours!
-It is yours! -It is yours!
We never were of those who turned back, were intimated by...
or ran from this world which we cannot rule even for a single moment.
And we won't be!
It is now time to imprint the seal of resurrection onto oppressed Anatolia...
whose fate has ever been molded with grief.
Allahu akbar!
-Allahu akbar! -Allahu akbar!
-Allahu akbar! -Allahu akbar!
-Allahu akbar! -Allahu akbar!
-Allahu akbar! -Allahu akbar!
-Allahu akbar! -Allahu akbar!
-Allahu akbar! -Allahu akbar!
-Long live Ertuğrul Bey! -Long live Ertuğrul Bey!
Long live Ertuğrul Bey!
-Long live Ertuğrul Bey! -Long live Ertuğrul Bey!
May insurmountable hills be a pasture to you.
Let no wind hit your face, no stone touch your feet.
My son.
Farewell, Ertuğrul Bey.

Oh, the white marquee, entrusted to us by our ancestors...
keepsake of my grandfather Süleyman Şah.
I wow to make you the dread of the cruel, the haven of the oppressed.
Oh, the sword that is the foundation of our beyhood.
I vow never to put you back in your sheath until all cruel men are gone.
Oh, the blessed banner that holds the mark of my ancestors on its heart!
I vow to carry you all over the world...
and to make you float on forts.
If there is to be a new uprising...
if the world is due for a new resurrection...
then we will be the standard-bearers of that resurrection, God willing.
God almighty!
Come on, alps.
Bismillahirrahmanirrahim.
Oh, he who decorates the sky with stars!
Oh, he who drives the clouds!
Oh, God, who disperses gathered armies!
You are the one who hides the sun behind the dark.
The scattered İslamic world awaits light, awaits hope, awaits salvation.
Let us be the instrument of that.
Let us be the standard-bearer of that holy cause.
Allow us to unify the İslamic world under that holy banner.
Let our horses canter as we spur them all around.
Let our swords be sharp as we pull them out for justice.
Let this sun that shines upon us
be the forebear of the light that will shine on our land.
Let it be the start of a brand-new day
that will light not only this day
but many centuries to come.
Amen. Amen. Amen.
They made the sun their banner, the sky their tent.
They rode their mares onto endless fields.
They made their swords their companions and made their armies strong.
They carried them onto more seas, more land,
and divine hope.
They became the resurrection...
in an age where hope was lost...
and shouted out to the whole world:
"Justice forever, freedom forever!"
In the name of God,
most gracious, most merciful.
Surely we have given to you a clear victory,
that God may forgive
your past and future sins,
perfect his favor upon you,
guide you to a straight path,
and grant you a mighty victory.
It was he who sent down tranquility
upon the hearts of the believers
so that they may increase their faith.
To God belong the forces of the heavens and the Earth.
He is all-knowing all-wise.
That he may admit believing men and women
into gardens beneath which rivers flow
abiding therein forever,
and forgive their sins.
And that is with God a supreme success.
And that he may punish the hypocrites
and the polytheists.
Men and women
who think evil of God;
for them is a disgraceful torment, and God's displeasure is upon them.
He has cursed them
and prepared hell for them.
What an evil destination!
To God belong the forces of heaven and Earth.
He is almighty, all-wise.
Indeed, we have sent you as a witness,
a bearer of glad things and a warner.
So that you may believe
in God and his messenger,
support and honor him,
and glorify God, morning and evening.
God almighty speaks the truth.
This story is for those who dream of conquest.
For those who fight without stepping back.
For those who are in for ordeals.
This story
is about the Turks who wanted to bring order to the earth.
