[Episode 14]

We've always moved our goods

through Changfeng Dock.

Now that we're leaving,

we're leaving from Guazhou Dock.

It's a good plan, Madam.

Yes.

This is our last trick.

It's all Yuru's idea.

Young Madam.

Madam, Young Madam is here.

Young Madam!

Mother! Mother!

Yuru.

-Young Madam. -Young Madam. Young Madam.

Mother.

Are you okay?

I'm fine.

That's good.

Where is my mother?

Don't worry.

I've sent a carriage to pick her up.

She'll be here soon.

That's good.

What about Jiusi?

Jiusi?

Isn't he with you?

What happened?

Young Master...

He went to get Master.

He didn't want Young Madam to worry,

so he arranged for Young Madam

to wait on the ship.

Where did he go?

Gong.

Why isn't Gong here?

Brother Gu,

Since Rong couldn't get you to come,

I've come here personally.

On account of our old friendship.

I hope you will

surrender immediately

and hand over the money

you're transporting to the rebels.

It'll save us some trouble

and you'll be spared of excessive suffering.

Ultimately,

it's all about the money.

Brother Gu,

you're wrong.

It's not that I have it in for you.

You broke the law.

I have no choice

but to play the villain.

If the Gu family

is willing to donate all our assets

as taxes to Yangzhou,

will that be sufficient?

Gu Langhua.

If you had yielded earlier,

you wouldn't have ended up like this.

Am I only asking for money?

I want you to kneel down.

What I want is your Gu family,

all the noble and merchant families

in the whole of Yangzhou,

the Ye family,

the Yang family,

and the Chen family,

to kneel down!

Stand in formation!

Close the door!

Get him!

[Gu Mansion]

Eldest Miss.

Mother Yue.

Eldest Miss.

Where is my mother?

There were...

there were many soldiers at our house.

There was blood everywhere.

Master...

Master is gone too.

Eldest Madam saved us.

But later,

the soldiers kept chasing us.

Our carriage toppled.

The coachman is dead too.

Eldest Madam...

What happened to my mother? Tell me!

Eldest Madam...

Eldest Madam fell off a cliff.

I'm sorry.

I'm sorry.

I'm sorry.

Take the kids inside.

I'm sorry.

Yuru.

Mother.

My child.

Mother.

You...

No.

I have to find her.

I have to find my mother.

Where are you going at this hour?

Boss Liu.

The Eagle Claw is coming this way.

We can't wait any longer.

We need to set sail now.

Otherwise,

everyone will be doomed.

Yes, Madam.

Madam, let’s go.

Let's go.

Let's go.

Set sail, Madam.

Mother.

Madam, let’s go.

Madam, let’s go.

No more waiting.

Set sail!

Wait!

Mother.

Jiusi...

Jiusi hasn't gotten here either.

Mother.

Let's go to Huainan to wait for them.

They will come.

No, I have to find them.

You can't go!

I have to find them, Mother!

Bring Young Madam into the cabin!

Go!

I have to find them!

Set sail!

Yes!

Set sail now!

Hurry up! Set sail!

[Guazhou Dock]

-Set sail! -Set sail!

Young Madam.

[To Yuru]

This is Young Master...

[Letter of Divorce]

If

something really happens to my family,

don't worry.

I'll help you

come up with an escape plan.

I'll write you a divorce letter

and give you a lot of money.

Then, I'll send you

to a safe place.

♫ I once said there were no feelings between us ♫

♫ How could I have known I wouldn't forget you ♫

But I want you to know

I'm not going back on my promise.

♫ I don't know where my love started ♫

I want you to be safe.

♫ I follow after you ♫

♫ I give dawn and dusk to myself ♫

[Letter of Divorce]

I hope after our separation,

♫ What is love and what is anticipation ♫

my wife

will comb her hair again

♫ Our clear hearts ♫

and draw her brows.

♫ If only one person understands my stubbornness ♫

We will dissolve our resentment and our bond,

without hate for each other.

♫ You are the one who persists ♫

Let's part ways

and live happily.

♫ If only one person can go through tribulations ♫

I will offer you

♫ You are my home after wandering ♫

several months of living expenses.

♫ If only one person can protect me ♫

May you

live a long life.

♫ The serenity of this life is you ♫

♫ I've entrusted myself to you, the hands I hold are yours ♫

Yuru.

Don't do anything silly.

Live well.

You may leave.

♫ If only one person can protect me ♫

I want to be alone for a while.

♫ The serenity of this life is you ♫

♫ I've entrusted myself to you, the hands I hold are yours ♫

♫ I wish every year could be like this ♫

[Gu Mansion]

Wang Shou!

Gu Langhua!

After I kill

your obedient lackeys,

I'll kill you!

Stop!

Everyone stop!

Tell them to back off.

Back off!

Brat.

Why did you come back?

Old man, go!

You go!

Don't be willful now!

Leave, now!

I'm your father!

You shouldn't be

taking this for me!

Gu Jiusi.

You're threatening me with my son?

Father!

Help me!

Shoot!

Master!

Father!

Let's go!

Go!

Let's go!

Trust me.

I won't die.

Go!

What will Mother do if you don't leave?

Go, now!

Go!

[Gu Mansion]

Tighten your legs and lean forward.

Listen.

Horses are more stable

once they start galloping.

Go!

Yuru!

Young Madam!

Young Madam!

Young Madam!

If you don't kill them,

they will kill you.

Whoever captures Gu Jiusi alive

will be rewarded with 100 taels of gold.

Kill!

Go!

My Lord, you treated me sincerely.

I should protect you with my life.

Going back this time,

I will definitely

bring you back safely.

Young Master!

Jiusi!

Jiusi!

Let's go!

Master, let's go.

Go.

Get on the horse!

Catch them!

Live! Go!

♫ Look at the setting sun shining on the earth, the lonesome wind and sand ♫

♫ Weep for the people, so many lonely souls and vagrants ♫

♫ The youngster is careless ♫

♫ He cannot remove his armor ♫

♫ I cannot ask why ♫

♫ I'll offer a toast ♫

♫ When can we be together ♫

♫ Looking back suddenly ♫

♫ I can't see through the illusions in the world ♫

♫ Look at the flowers blooming and withering, there is no escape in this life ♫

♫I remember that year when we met, the stars were shining in the vast sky ♫

♫ I remember the splendor in vain, indifferent ♫

♫ On this journey, half my life turbulent ♫

♫ Secretly aching ♫

♫ I can't hide my loneliness, the shadows of lone sails passing by ♫

♫ Look at the flowers blooming and withering, there is no escape in this life ♫

♫ In this mortal world, people come and go ♫

Over there.

Look over there.

Search! Keep searching!

[Wanjia Store]

Come with me.

They're not in the room.

They're not in the inner room.

Search in the north!

Boss Liu.

Boss Liu.

How is Young Master Gu?

Thank you for saving us.

Young Master has pulled through.

He'll live.

Mr. Wan, you risked your life

to save us.

My Lord and I

will always remember your kindness.

Boss Liu.

Please don't.

If you hadn’t helped me,

I would have had to

take my wife and children

begging in the streets long ago.

Father.

Boss Liu.

You can stay here

and recuperate.

When Young Master recovers,

I'll find a way

to send you out of the city.

Sorry to bother you.

No, take care of him.

I'll keep watch outside.

Father.

Jiusi.

Father, Mother, run.

It's okay.

Don't be afraid. It's okay.

Father.

Jiusi, don't be afraid.

Jiusi.

-Run! Yuru! -Jiusi.

It's okay, Jiusi.

Run!

Jiusi.

Jiusi, it's okay.

Don't be afraid. It's okay.

It's okay, Jiusi. It's okay.

Yuru.

I'm here.

It's okay.

Jiusi.

Don't be afraid.

It's okay, Jiusi.

[Bailu Academy]

Young Master, we received an urgent letter via pigeon post

from Yangzhou.

[Trouble in Yangzhou, Wang Shanquan led troops and massacred the Ye family]

We must return to Yangzhou.

Hurry!

Yes.

Jiusi, you're awake.

Do you want to eat something?

Why did you come back?

I was worried about you.

What was there to worry about?

I'd given you the letter.

Why did you come back?

Do you not want to be a boss anymore

or do you not want your life anymore?

You're usually smart.

Why are you now...

Don't you know

Yangzhou is very dangerous right now?

Gu Jiusi.

What did you promise me?

You said we were brothers,

and you would protect me

whether we were married or not.

Listen up, Gu Jiusi.

In terms of being husband and wife,

when my husband is in danger,

as a wife, doing my best

is my responsibility.

In terms of doing business,

you still haven't ranked first in the Provincial Examination.

You owe me.

The results of our bet haven't been determined.

You want to divorce me?

You want to default on your debt?

No way!

Liu Yuru.

You're a formidable woman.

Are you scared?

Yes,

I'm scared.

Good.

Listen up, Gu Jiusi.

Don't write anymore divorce letters

so lightly.

A piece of paper can't stop me.

If you really care about me,

tell me

everything.

I'm not stupid.

I'll decide whether to stay or leave.

I don't need you to decide for me.

Okay.

Mother and the managers

have left first on the ship.

They should be safe now.

Where is your mother?

How is she? Is she safe?

That's good.

That's good.

Father escaped through the secret tunnel.

He should

meet up with us soon.

Boss Liu, Young Master Gu.

Mr. Wan.

All of the Gu family's shops

in Yangzhou

have been burned down

by the commissioner.

I found your father's body

in the jewelry shop

on Guangling East Street.

This jade pendant

was found on his body.

Are you sure?

I've done business with the Gu family for many years.

I recognize

your father's face.

What are you doing?

Jiusi, calm down.

Let go of me!

No, you can't go!

Calm down, Jiusi!

They're looking for you.

You'll be turning yourself in!

You can't go!

Let go of me!

Mother is waiting for us!

Jiusi.

Mother is waiting for us.

Jiusi.

Jiusi.

My condolences.

My condolences.

My condolences.

Jiusi.

[Wang Mansion]

Commissioner, Master.

We've searched the city,

but we couldn't find

Gu Jiusi and Liu Yuru.

The city gates are locked.

You searched all night but couldn't find two people.

They couldn't possibly have

flown or burrowed away.

Search again.

Yes.

Your Highness.

Calm down.

Young Master Luo,

do you have any ideas?

What's happening there?

I'm not sure.

This is our family's

last secret tunnel.

Let's hurry up.

Yuru.

Young Master.

After thinking about it,

there's something I can't hide from you anymore.

The soldiers

have arrested the entire Yang family

to force them to hand over Yang Wenchang.

Otherwise, they'd be sentenced as accomplices

for harboring a fugitive.

Their whole family would be executed and their corpses would be abandoned.

So

Yang Wenchang came back by himself.

Wang Shanquan said

Yang Wenchang's life

can be exchanged for the lives of the whole Yang family.

He captured Wenchang

because he couldn't find Jiusi.

Uncle Yang always said he was useless

and didn't know how to do business.

Now,

Wenchang's closed a large deal.

His life for the whole family's.

When will he be beheaded?

Today.

Jiusi.

I know what's important.

I can't save him,

but I can at least send him off.

Young Master Luo, we've searched everywhere.

There's no trace of Gu Jiusi.

Keep searching.

Search carefully.

If they show up,

they will disguise themselves.

Yes.

Master,

what if Gu Jiusi

isn't as loyal as the rumors say,

and he's simply too cowardly

to come?

We can see the execution ground from here.

I'll keep watch down there.

Young Master, Young Madam, hurry.

Okay.

Wenchang,

you are also

a famous character in Yangzhou City.

You can't leave

without a send off drink.

Wenchang,

we both know that

right now,

there is still one person who can save your life.

Unfortunately,

I overestimated

the loyalty between you brothers.

You're wrong.

If Gu Jiusi doesn't show up today,

he will still be my brother.

If Gu Jiusi really comes for me,

he will be a foolish man who loses sight of what's important

because of a moment of indignation.

I, Yang Wenchang,

won't have such a man for a brother.

Wenchang,

I thought

you only cared about cockfighting and dog racing.

Who knew you would be fearless in the face of death?

I'm impressed.

I was wrong, my nephew.

What's so hard

about dying?

In my opinion,

there's nothing easier

than dying.

You only have to close your eyes and kick your legs,

cross the Bridge of Forgetfulness,

and you will have arrived at your next life.

But it's hard to live.

I'm not capable.

I enjoyed 20 years

of leisure and riches.

I thought

I could go horse-riding, flower-viewing,

cockfighting, and dog racing

for the rest of my life of enjoyment and freedom.

But now,

the situation is on the verge of collapse

and a storm is coming.

People like me, who have been raised on luxury

and are greedy for enjoyment,

won't be able to

withstand the suffering in these troubled times.

In life,

people are like water.

Wherever the water flows,

you

will be carried there.

Nobility

and commoners alike

struggle amidst it.

No one can escape.

Carving out

a dignified path

that allows you to survive

and save other people

is too difficult.

I can't handle such a difficult task.

I'll leave it to Jiusi.

♫ In a troubled spring and autumn ♫

Search in that direction.

♫ As he looks back, it's like our first meeting ♫

Yes.

♫ He fell into the eye of the storm ♫

♫ Black and white hairs fall untied ♫

I'll keep this

for good luck.

♫ The peak crashes, beacon smoke falls ♫

♫ Let's play chess or drink together ♫

Today is my wife's birthday.

I'll use this money

to treat you all to drinks!

♫ Waving my sleeves at a lonesome autumn ♫

♫ I sing a song from afar ♫

♫ Adrift on a boat with you ♫

Gu Jiusi!

♫ We traverse the vast mountains and rivers together ♫

I don't care where you are!

Listen up!

♫ Laughing, saying its not gratitude or enmity, life or death, give or take ♫

I'll wait for you.

For the sake of your brother,

♫ It's all bliss, hard to drink ♫

live!

Live well!

♫ I'll go horseback riding with you through the mountains and rivers ♫

You have to be a hero,

♫ Fight fearlessly with you on the battlefield ♫

travel the world,

and get rid of all those people

♫ The wind and clouds, the lakes in writing ♫

who scheme in underhanded ways

and treat human lives like pawns!

Return peace to the people!

♫ Adrift on a boat with you ♫

and bring peace to the world.

♫ We traverse the vast mountains and rivers together ♫

If I am reincarnated as a human,

♫ Laughing, saying its not gratitude or enmity, life or death, give or take ♫

let's go horseback riding

♫ It's all bliss, hard to drink ♫

and drinking!

♫ I'll go horseback riding with you through the mountains and rivers ♫

♫ Fight fearlessly with you on the battlefield ♫

♫ The wind and clouds, the lakes in writing ♫

Execute him!

[Execute]

♫ The world should know the true color of a young man ♫

Search!

Over there.

Search carefully.

You guys, search upstairs.

You guys, follow me.

Hurry!

Hurry!

Over there!

Search carefully!

After them! Don't let them escape!

Stop!

[Gu's Umbrella Shop]

Stop!

Go! Go!

This has nothing to do with you.

You're just one of the countless merchants

under the Gu family

trying to make a living.

To think you are willing

to sacrifice your life for them.

I'm indebted to the Gu family.

I will die without regret if I can repay them.

Jiusi.

Sister-in-law.

You're disguised too?

Follow me.

Jiusi.

You saw it?

He knew I would come to see him off.

It's good that he knew.

By the way,

I went to Ye Mansion

according to your instructions.

How are they?

The Ye family

is all gone.

All gone?

Except for Ye Shi'an,

who went back to the academy,

I didn't hear about any survivors.

When I went there,

their bodies

had been taken away and burned.
