Hello and welcome to
the BBC Proms 2020.

We've got something a bit different
for you tonight: a journey

through the musical life of one
of Britain's, and in fact

the world's, greatest stars
of Indian classical music: virtuoso

sitar-player and composer,
Anoushka Shankar.

She's been performing
internationally for 25 years,

has collaborated with the likes
of Sting, Herbie Hancock,

and Joshua Bell, and constantly
confounds expectations in the way

she mixes musical styles and genres.

Anoushka's played on the Proms
stage three times before.

But this will be an especially
important performance

for her as 2020 marks the centenary
of the birth of her father and guru,

the legendary sitarist
and composer Ravi Shankar.

The concert is a game of two halves.

In the second, Proms first-timers
percussionist Manu Delago

and jazz bassist Tom Farmer,
as well as Jules Buckley

and the Britten Sinfonia -
join Anoushka to perform some

of her own music.

But first, Anoushka is joined
by the London-born electronic

composer and producer Gold Panda -
also his first time at the Proms -

to perform their take
on Ravi Shankar's music.

Ravi died in 2012,
and tonight's concert

is Anoushka's tribute to him.
