EPISODE 05

Lady Qingning,

where are you planning to go?

Mr. Rang.

This road

isn't the route to the Holy Capital.

I'm being pursuit by the Jinyiwei,

so I dare not return to the Holy Sect under these circumstances.

Zhuge Jing mentioned

that you've obtained the Suanni Beast Talisman.

May I have a look?

Why the hesitation? Are you unwilling?

The Suanni Beast Talisman has finally returned to my possession.

No, this talisman is counterfeit.

What?

The genuine Six Harmony Beast Talisman is impervious to blades and swords.

How could it be so fragile?

Shen Wen!

The weather is dry, so be careful with fire.

Sleep early and wake up early to exercise.

Why are there so many Jinyiwei in the city recently?

What could they be doing here?

I heard they are searching for the Six Harmony Beast Talisman.

The Six Harmony Beast Talisman?

Is it just a rumor that

it holds the secret to the most powerful weapon?

That's right.

Let's not be careless when discussing Imperial Court matters.

That's no good.

Fire!

Where is the Fire?

Li..

At Master Li Ren's outermost mansion.

Let's go and take a look.

This fire is more than a bit intense.

What has happened?

I heard they were involved in some shady business.

What a tragedy!

The Yamen officials have arrived.

I live nearby.

I rushed here shortly after the fire started.

When did the fire started?

90 minutes?

That's around

the time we leave the Yamen.

Did you see any members of the Li family?

No, I didn't.

Besides, the fire was so intense that we didn't dare to get close.

Inspector.

You may leave.

They're all dead.

check to see who else entered there

and bring them in for questioning.

Xiao Liu,

you go and inform Luo Tongpan and Jianzuo.

Yes, sir!

Guard the door and don't let anyone come in or leave.

Shop Owner.

What's wrong, Shop Owner?

Are you going to the flower boat again?

I made a mistake.

I won't go to such places again.

It's good you realize that.

Now, get back to work.

Yes, ma'am.

Miss,

there's bad news!

What happened?

The master fainted from shock.

What?

Grandpa,

why did he suddenly get startled?

I'm not sure.

But the doctor says he should be fine after some rest.

I'll go check on him.

Ah Wen, we'll close for business today.

Yes, ma'am.

Mr. Shen.

Inspector Lin.

You're out of jail.

I was released last night.

Inspector Lin, what's happening here?

A fire at the Li Family's Northern part of the city resulted in multiple fatalities.

How did this happen?

It's still unknown.

The fire was extinguished this morning.

Xiao Huzi quit his job two days ago,

and then this happened.

Xiao Huzi quit his job?

He said his relatives in the countryside helped him found a job,

so he no longer works for us.

The new replacement hire will arrive in the next few days,

so the work for the next few days will be tiring.

I happen to have some free time today.

Perhaps I can stay to help?

How can I let you?

The work here is done by hard laborers.

I wouldn't dare to trouble Master Shen.

It's no big deal.

Then, Master Shen, can also help us take a look into this case?

We'll inform the public that Master Shen is assisting with the case

to safeguard Master Shen's reputation.

With Master Shen's Xikui Sheng assistance,

I believe the case will be resolved swiftly.

Xikui Sheng?

How about..

Master Shen help stand guard for a night?

An old man like me can't bear staying up all night.

No problem.

Regarding the Li Family's northern home,

could it be Mr. Li Ren's residence?

That's correct.

I went to his home a long time ago

to help him design a courtyard waterwheel.

I didn't realize...

Master Shen also understands architecture and building structures?

I have some experience...

We'll finish our work first,

and talk to Master Shen again later.

Sure.

See you later.

Should I excuse myself?

No need.

If Master Shen is willing,

you can stay here and listen.

Okay.

The victims were murdered before the fire started.

There were obvious knife wounds on their bodies.

Knife wounds?

The wounds were mostly on their throats.

They were killed with a single, precise knife strike.

The killer appears to be an expert with knives.

Setting the fire to destroy bodies and erase evidence, huh?

Did you find anything else at the scene?

The main house was burned down,

but in the servants' rooms,

there are trails of drag marks on the ground.

The murderer must have killed everyone first,

then dragged them into the main house to burn them.

How many victims were killed this time?

All 11 members of the Li family were murdered.

This person must know the Li Family well.

It seems to be the work of a close acquaintance.

We are also investigating.

Has the Li family offended anyone recently?

This murder is very similar to the two mass massacres 6 months ago.

Six months ago?

That's correct.

Both in Qihe and Changqing,

within less than 2 months,

two murder cases occurred in succession.

The killing method is almost identical to the current one.

These two murder cases still remain unsolved,

and the previous Captain Wang was

later demoted to another county as a result.

Speaking of this,

Master Shen also arrived in Qinan Province around that time, right?

You must have heard about this.

I'm ashamed to admit,

but at that time, I was struggling to make a living,

so I didn't bother to inquire.

Do the victims in both Qihe and Changqing

have any connection to the Li Family?

It sounds like a serial crime.

I'll go back to the Yamen first to check.

Go ahead.

Farewell.

Tell me quickly, where is that thing?

Search thoroughly for me, and don't miss any of them.

Could it be that the thing is not with this family?

Zhi'er, run quickly!

A case of arson and family murder?

Then I'll take my leave first.

Please take your time, sir.

Brother Wen

Xiao Tao

I was just going to inform you.

A few days ago, didn't Li Ren's family suffer a disaster?

Master and Li Ren have a good business relationship,

which is why he's in shock.

He'll be staying at the villa for the time being to recover.

Our family's miss went to the villa to accompany the master.

Hence, the silver shop will be closed for business for the next few days.

In that case,

I should visit Master Wan tomorrow.

By the way, who's the man who just left?

He's a guest of the master,

and seems to be a martial expert from some sect.

The master is afraid that the killer will continue to commit crimes,

so he invited some martial artists to protect the manor.

Continue to commit crimes?

Fire! Fire!

Master Shen,

where have you been?

I just saw that frequent visitor at my house,

the troublesome little wild boar.

I was about to catch it and roast it for dinner.

Oh, right.

The new replacement hire from Yizhuang

will be starting today.

Thank you for your help these past few days, Master Shen.

You're welcome.

In that case,

then I, Shen, will take my leave.

I am old and don't have much to offer.

These food are gifts for Master Shen

to thank you for your help these past few days.

Thank you, Mr. Kong.

The fire that just broke out was huge.

I could see it from a few blocks away.

Agu, you're hanging out with these pigeons again.

Although you speak 'gu gu', you're still an owl.

What a disaster!

It's really scary.

It's another murder case.

Who has their family offended?

About 6 or 7 years ago, the wharf head of Qingliu Sect

also had their whole family massacred.

I heard a constable died this time.

More than 10 years ago, there was a Wu Escort in Dongchang Province

that also had their whole family massacred.

This martial world is so cruel.

Several nearby counties sent people to search,

but Luo Qingning remains elusive.

Any news from Prince De's Mansion?

Prince De has nothing to do with this case.

The madam of Qiuyue Pavilion

was replaced by an impostor.

When we found her, she had already committed suicide.

Prince De wrote a letter to the Emperor

to request that we not get into further entanglements.

What about Shen Wen? Is there anything abnormal?

Lately, the kid

has been running between Yizhuang and the Silver Shop every day.

However,

last night,

about four hours around between 3am and 7am

we lost his trail.

So it seems I'm correct.

You seem very interested in this kid.

There was another case of family massacre yesterday.

Do you know anything about it?

Yes, I do but it looks like social enmity

and shouldn't have much to do with the Beast Talisman.

Here's my brief summary of the case.

The murderer is characterized as a martial arts expert,

highly proficient in Qinggong and stealthy,

and appears to be familiar with the families of the victims.

Additionally, the murderer is thoughtful

and left no valuable clues at the crime scene.

What you're suggesting is...

Shen Wen!

Although he knows some craftsmanship,

his martial skills seem ordinary.

I have examined the victim's body.

The wound shows a very skilled knife master.

Also, I've seen Shen Wen using a knife.

And to kill everyone without a trace,

the murderer must be familiar with the victims' family routines.

Both the Li Family in the north side and the Shi Family in the south side

have previously sought Shen Wen's help

to design their courtyards.

But that is not enough evidence to prove he is the murderer.

That is why I also looked into other things.

Captain Mu, I have already tried.

Running at full speed from the Shi Family in the South of the city to Yizhuang,

and it took three hours for the round trip.

In addition to the time taken to commit the crime,

that accounted for about four hours.

When both the Li Manor and Shi Manor cases occurred,

he somehow managed to avoid our surveillance.

In other words,

he is indeed a strong suspect.

But what does that have to do with us?

Whether this is related to the Beast Talisman,

I won't let this murderer escape.

A moment ago, Agu was inside the pigeon coop at Shi's Manor

and found this Bull Beast Talisman.

Could the recent murder cases also be related to the Beast Talisman?

Who else is looking for this Beast Talisman?

Am I being targeted for robbery again?
