How's that for improvement on the road?

Believe me, nothing's over yet, but that was special.

[Ker] Yeah, we've hit many milestones this year,

with Phil Parkinson getting to 100 wins,

um, Paul Mullin scoring 100 goals.

Um, but someone else already scored a hundred goals before Paul did that.

[Griffiths] Hughes has a nice... Great idea!

[Griffiths] That's what Rosie Hughes does!

[Ker] And that person is, of course, Rosie Hughes.

[Davies] Rosie is just a goal scorer.

I mean, the confidence that she has in front of goal.

[Griffiths] She is the seventh player to score a hundred goals for Wrexham

and the first female, and she's done it in ludicrous time.

Hundred goals in 46 games is phenomenal.

[Griffiths] To average two goals per match and reach a hundred goals

in record-breaking time is absolutely stunning.

She is a big character around the squad, isn't she?

But I think that actually adds to her performance

and to the team's performance because we just all kind of go with her.

Right, so how have you found this season, girls?

I didn't expect us to do so well.

Like, in all honesty, I thought we'd go up and be, like, near relegation.

And then to finish top three, I'm surprised.

[Gilpin] I think Wrexham Women have had a really good campaign.

If you think about it,

it's their first ever season in the Adran Premier League.

It's a massive step up. And they finished in third.

[Owen] We've more than competed in the league that we've gone into.

We got a ridiculous amount of points. Scored a ridiculous amount of goals.

[Owen] To see the players out there

and being very comfortable and competing at the top level.

Yeah, I'm hugely proud of that.

[Griffiths] Can she finish? Oh, yes, she can.

[Edwards] Yeah, it's not just the league where they've exceeded expectations,

they've done really well in the cup too.

We've had a decent cup run, haven't we, really.

[Owen] The FAW Women's Cup is a separate cup competition.

It's very different to the league.

You play teams that are not only in your league

but in other leagues as well.

[Griffiths] And then off the line. Incredible this! Mackenzie!

As a women's section, we've never won the cup final.

[Gilpin] Yeah, it's a chance to end the season with a trophy,

but it's also a chance to get a bit of revenge

against a team that has really been their nemesis, Cardiff City.

Can't shake them off.

[Edwards] Yeah, The Bluebirds have dominated

the top tier of Welsh women's football for quite a while.

They've got three league titles, one Adran Trophy,

and if they beat Wrexham, it's their fourth Welsh Cup.

Really privileged to have been asked by the club to help Mark

We're still competing with them though. We're giving them a good game.

you know, I think they were frustrated

because they had played so well and come away with nothing.

But there was an enormous sense of pride, enormous sense of like, well,

that's just laid down a little bit of a marker for next season

that this is a team that can compete with the very best in the country.

[Bennett] I think it's a truly transformative achievement.

One season back in the Football League, you're moving up already another level.

Back-to-back promotions for the first time in the club's 159-year history.

We're back to where we were 20 years ago.

Been a long, hard slog, but what a fantastic season.

It was hard to think that we'd go up twice and go back-to-back.

But the thing that Parky's done with the club is amazing.

[Bennett] You know, the town is united at the moment.

What's happening at the football club is a catalyst for something a bit bigger.

I think we're suddenly becoming the best versions of ourselves.

You know, 'cause this, for me,

is the best thing I've been a part of for a while.

You know, it was a bit of an emotional day.

Another great day.

It's a big step-up to League One. We're gonna struggle.

We'll find out where we are in League One.

And I think, you know, a couple of players coming to the end of long contracts.

You know, you could see them not being kept on.

[Parkinson] The planning for next season is ongoing.

There's a lot of work to be done in the summer.

Uh, we've got, um, several players out of contract.

[Harvey] We haven't ended up here by chance.

You know, a lot of players going, new players will be arriving.

But it's that continued evolution that the squad has to go through.

It feels harsh, and it's never the easiest few days.

But everybody who's been inside that dressing room

understands the journey the football club's on.

[Parkinson] The jump from League Two to League One is a harder challenge

than National League into League Two.

And we've got to be prepared for that.

We've got to, as a group, make the right decisions

to keep the club progressing in the right direction.

[Ker] Yes, so last game of the season, Stockport.

There is a little bit of needle between Stockport and Wrexham.

Losing 5-nil to Stockport early in the season

was one of our sort of real shocks to the system.

Everyone wants to win today.

But we've got the championship, and that's what's most important.

[Griffiths] There's plenty for Wrexham to prove against Stockport,

not least carrying this rivalry into next season.

Go, Wrexham!

[Ker] We're going to tangle with these guys next year.

You know, beating them at home in front of our fans

seems like a great way to end the season.

[Stephen] Uh, today's my first time getting into The Racecourse ever.

So, yeah, it's a very bittersweet occasion for a lot of these guys.

You know, some, I think, are reaching the ends of their careers.

Some still have many more fruitful years to enjoy.

Some are just at the start of their careers.

[Griffiths] Headed away to the edge of the box by Cleworth.

Lemonheigh-Evans tackled brilliantly by Young.

[Ker] You know, Luke Young, who's been captain of this club.

He's been player of the season on multiple occasions.

[commentator] Played back behind Omotayo.

I do wanna be playing.

I do feel like I've got a few more years in me left yet to regularly play.

In view as much as I would love to stay and still be a part of this journey,

I'll have nothing but praise to say about everything involved with the club.

What a year to bow out and have that success behind you.

[Ker] And Ben Tozer is on the bench,

who's been our captain for the last couple of seasons along with Luke.

You know, he was ever-present in that National League season

when we got promoted.

[Tozer] When I came to the club,

my goal and ambition was to get the club to League One

and to play a massive part in doing that.

And to have achieved that, for me, is incredible.

No bitterness whatsoever. Just I understood my role off the pitch.

And I feel like I've done that well.

[Griffiths] Okonkwo knocks it long.

- And the 2023-2024 season ends. - [cheering]

[Griffiths] Wrexham beat the champions Stockport County in a hell of a game.

[Andy Parkinson] And, of course, Stockport won't be going anywhere.

[Griffiths] This rivalry is quite something.

[supporters] Wrexham!

[Ker] That refresh of players that happens every summer gets more difficult,

gets more complicated.

And, you know, this summer is the hardest.

Because we're saying goodbye to some absolutely central figures

in that success.

You know, people like, um, Rob Lainton, Jordan Tunnicliffe,

Callum McFadzean, Aaron Hayden.

[Hayden] It's been a very memorable three years,

and I can now move on to my next chapter.

Not in sadness, but in pride and happiness

of what I achieved over my last few years at the club.

I wish the club all the best for the future.

[Ker] Also, our star goalie, Arthur Okonkwo, his loan is over.

And we don't know where he's gonna sign.

[Harvey] But the one thing for certain is all those players that Phil's spoken to

can be really proud of the part that they've played on this journey.

[Ker] They will rightly wear the title of kind of legend here.

I mean, they will always be part of that double promotion team.

[Parkinson] Without doubt.

I hope that none of them will ever have to buy a drink

within a hundred-mile radius of the stadium.

[Parkinson] There's already been a couple of managers that rang me

about all the players we've let go, asking me about them as people,

and obviously, they know what they're like as players.

Um, so there's gonna be a lot of opportunities for them.

But unfortunately, in football, you've got to evolve

and you've got to keep moving forward.

[Stephen] As a personal achievement, this is big.

[camera shutter clicks]

Like, it feels great to have pushed past something.

- [camera shutter clicks] - My heart is, like...

going.

[McElhenney] We know every ending is not going to be perfect for every player.

And this is a business where tough decisions have to be made.

And regardless, starting a new chapter is hard.

[McElhenney] Congrats, man. Congrats. I'm so happy for you.

But so many of them will always be a part of the great legacy that is Wrexham.

We've come a long way, gents, haven't we?

But we've also got to evolve and improve the squad,

because we're going into a very competitive division

with a lot of big clubs.

A lot of clubs who've been in the Championship in recent years.

For me, it's about from day one

when we get back, when Kev starts testing the lads.

They come back fit, come back motivated.

We always say that the week is made by the result of the weekend, isn't it?

So we're gonna do everything we can to win,

because it lifts everybody in Wrexham.

It lifts the staff, and that's our job.

And it's about winning for me, and that's what we gotta do.

And what are your predictions for Wrexham in League One?

I'm gonna say they're gonna do it. I do. I think they're gonna do it.

It's a whole new world. League One can be an absolute meat grinder of a league.

[Ker] We're gonna have to fight for every single point we get.

I don't think there will be too many 6-nils on the cards for us next season.

[Harvey] The one thing you can't buy is momentum.

We've got positivity on our side.

We've got everybody believing we can be successful.

Can we go back-to-back-to back? Yes, we can.

It'll be harder for success next year.

But you never know, do you, with this club?

This is a dare-to-dream scenario.

We're all in. We want blood, and we want it now. Let's go.

You know, the whole world's looking at Wrexham at the moment.

It's an enormous amount of pride, not only to the club, to the city.

The football has changed the city completely.

Um, not just on match days.

On every day for every single person in the community,

whether they follow football or not.

And the football has had an impact on their lives one way or another.

Whoo!

[McElhenney] League One is going to be a huge challenge for us.

But Wrexham has never and will never back down from a challenge.

[Reynolds] They've overcome 15 years in the National League,

a terrible mining disaster,

personal challenges,

economic issues.

[McElhenney] And while Wrexham embraces its history,

it's always looking to the future.

[Reynolds] No team at this level has ever gone back-to-back-to-back,

but it doesn't mean it can't be done.

[Ker] I'm excited about League One.

But I also think that there is enormous scope

to fuck this up beyond all recognition.

[Griffiths] Fabulous, this. Absoutely fabulous, this.

[Long] They're kids having a game of football on the pitch.

[Griffiths] Yeah, yeah.

Well, they're having a great ol' time, aren't they, those guys.

And still, those kids play... Go on, son. Finish.

And that's how it should be.
